I think for the sith it would be altered. "Never love anything so much, that you are willing to risk yourself for it." Losing a loved one could be a great fuel of rage, and hatred toward those who caused the loss. And a living lover can also create a great deal of motivation to keep yourself alive.
In the era of the Sith empire we see that a lot of Sith were romantic the most unknown example with Darth Malgus and his Lover who was a Twi'lek who became a slave and then Darth Malgus fell in love with her. It wasn't until the Jedi took advantage of this emotional attachment that Malgus killed his wife. The Sith do not condemn it outright. but they warn against it when it interferes with that Sith's allegiance to the dark side.
Sith are too selfish to understand true love for the dark, and so they are kept from fully calling upon it 😈

When I write fanfics I usually like to work with the idea that all emotions work for Siths. My explanation for why Love and positive emotions are not used is that they are more laborious and volatile, you will hardly have a love that only grows over time and is always present, but anger can be cultivated at all times more easily.

I can't find the exact quote because my books are in storage, but I seem to remember a passage from a Sith to her apprentice in the "Fate of the Jedi" series. I'm paraphrasing " Love him, if that is what you wish. Want, desire, burn for whatever you want, but never love anyone, or anything so much that you can't bear to live without it." Made sense to me, even if I'm not sure I could live up to it. Great video. Thanks.
Considering passion fuels the dark side I wonder why emotions like happiness are excluded. I think attachment should be vital for the Sith because the Jedi focus on detachment
Ever heard of a mother lifting a car off of their child or vice-versa in real life? Humans are capable of it, however its just based on adrenaline, emotions that are usually negative, like anger, worriness and anxiety. Happiness is alignment, if you want more power and are happy, you dont seek power. Anger is the essence of power to the sith.
It's not that all passion is seen as negative just the positive one it's as quoted in the video Sith will almost always chose power over everything Sidious could manipulate people so freely because not every kind gesture he did was a lie, he did care about others to some degree, but of course if it was necessary to sacrifice them or discard them for the sake of more power he would do that without hesitation Dark Plagues and Doku being prime examples. In fact feeling of rage for betrayal that fuel a Dark lord or even dissapoitment must come from nurtured positive attachments that are than allowed to sour into enemity for that is how Sith draw their power.

Interesting that the positive emotion of love is both the whole in the sith and the Jedi code, which seems why they were both inevitably doomed to be destroyed because the force is a creation of life and it's such a fundamental force of life
It's not that the Sith couldn't love and only had to have negative emotions. I'm sure the sith felt the full scale of emotions. They used whatever emotions they needed to fuel their passion
This is what I don’t understand about the Jedi of the clone wars era. How would having an attachment to a person you love lead you to the dark side of the force. As you said it seems like what the Jedi were doing to prevent that was ironic because what they did to prevent Jedi from falling to the dark side(in this case forbidding attachment) actually led to more Jedi falling to the dark side. That rule just makes no sense to me.
Thats kind of the point isn't it? The clone wars era Jedi were incredibly flawed which led to their downfall.
I believe that by reason this was a double edge sword. Attachments like love can be a great strength but it can also be a weakness in many regards. Jedi seek to cut it out because it's to situational and we see it leading to damnation. Also, it's a equality thing and even then...
I think that they are against attachments because the fear of losing them and the pain of losing them can draw one to the dark side.
It was a self-fulfilling prophecy, Anakin’s attachment to Padme only led him to the dark side because the Jedi refused to allow him to be openly married to the senator…Which prevented him from confiding in them when he started getting premonitions of her death and ultimately the absolutely terrible advice he was given by Yoda to just rejoice and let her die.

Loving others gives you the strength to think of others before yourself.
And thinking of others before yourself and putting the needs and wants of others before your own is directly contrary to the fundamental nature of both the Sith and The Dark Side of the Force itself

This is interesting. Sith used their love,passion for strength. It really made them more powerful. Sidious liked passion too. Though he thought the Sith should stay clear of love. Love ones can be used against them. Same is in our galaxy. But love and passion really can make us stronger. I think Sith who used love and passion are correct.May the Force be with you too. Revan I guess doesn't count because he was no longer a Sith when he and Bastila married. But Malgus killed his love because he believed it made him weaker. Personally, I agree with Revan. Love can make you more powerful than you could ever imagine...sorry if I misquoted that, but I was trying to channel my inner Kenobi 😂

I think the Jedi prohibition against love was literally there to prevent attachment which was operationally difficult for the Jedi to accommodate. It comes down to a bunch of logistical bureaucrats who wanted all of the knights to be interchangeable soldiers they could deploy across the galaxy at a moment’s notice without any personal attachment that would limit their utility

Adored the video and enjoy your Star Wars content and a pretty regular basis. My interest is primarily the gray Jedi I enjoy the concept of balance.
The Jedi's theory was also muddied. It didn't always have rules against love and attachment. It depended on how the council ruled at the time, and older council allowed it. I personally felt the Jedi that didn't allow it were giving into their own fear and causing their own problems because of which.
I don't like a lot of the ideas of force healing, either. The idea that only the light can use force healing makes sense, and the idea Jedi are still very limited in this talent also makes sense. What Disney did with it is stupid. Also they had comic books where someone using force healing for some reason caused him to turn to the dark side was equally retarded. I wish someone would make a more sane ruling on it, but that wont happen as long as Disney is in charge.
Force healing did sort of exist in legends but it was not as OP nor was it instant and easily, so one certainly couldn’t save from a fatal lightsaber wound. Force Healing in legends was a process that required deep meditation and concentration, whenever Darth Vader had free time, he would often spend in his meditation chamber, trying to heal himself, but he was only able to heal his skin and scars even so slightly, but despite his efforts he never could heal his lungs. This a good time to explain why the Sith rarely used it, yes it was available to them but one has to remember the sith code and how the sith fuel their strength in the darkside, negative emotions along with things like pain are good at fueling the darkside, this is obviously I know as they aren’t light side user but it important to keep this in mind, because whenever Vader would try to heal his lungs, he would focus on the pain they caused him and his hatred for his mask, this would fuel the darkness in a sense and give him the power to heal them but as it heal them Vader would feel immense relief and joy, this change in mood would effect his feelings and inturn remove the fuel for the darkside, the very thing that was healing which would in turn, essentially shuts down the entire process. Instead the sith would resort to draining other beings life force or doing essentially transform but that only if they were powerful and not limited, so sith like Palpatine and Plagiud were the only ones who could do that.

This is why i believe what made Darth Vader stood out the most out of all Sith Lords and as i said before it was attachment that drove Anakin to become a Sith and yet even as Darth Vader he still defied that same rule of attachment just as he did before as a Jedi by never letting go or to move on from Padme until came his son Luke Skywalker

The solution is simple: the strongrst Sith is the one that does whatever said Sith wants. In love and in general. Because what's the point in having power, if you cannot use it to do whatever you want? Such power would become a chain in itself, not the thing that liberates you from those chains.

The first example perfectly sums up my old OC, overly indulgent, and extravagant. Though it wasn't to feed into his connection to the dark side, it was because he was a character study into loneliness and depression, everything he did was just a sad, post-wall female with a TikTok level of cope.

Honestly I must conjecture that argument about the Sith.
For the first line of the Sith Code is as follows:
"There is no peace; only passion."
If we consider that to the Jedi, passion leads to corruption as in emotional.attachments? Well then obviously what the Jedi condemn; the Sith on the other hand would embrace. For in passion, there is strength, and through that power. Power to achieve victory, and from there, the chains are broken. "The force will free me. For if the Sith sought power, well then their ambition is embraced. The Sith will act on their passions.
Really I think it depends on the order. By some logic one could say it was against the Sith code due to it being emotion channeled at something other than the pursuit of strength and power (per the code drafted by sorzus syn). But it really depends on the order. Like in the SWTOR era, the Sith were so numerous and high in status that no one rly cared about that whereas it likely was looked on less favorably in the Rule of Two era due to the differing circumstances.

It more or less depends on the situation. Love is a complex emotion. Love doesn't necessarily mean you lose hate. It's just another powerful tool to be good or bad, nurturing love or fueling hate. Love is a double bladed sword.

I imagine the Sith have a hard time with love considering the dark side tends to turn people into bloodthirsty sociopaths. Dooku for example, he started as someone who fought for the little guy and did what was right. Then he joined Sidious and then he was committing atrocities left and right.
Make me wonder if anakin could have heal himself via light side powers. It seems most powerful force users could drawn on both ideologies.
I'd say both the Jedi and Sith make the mistake of avoiding attachments as a rule. I understand why many would go with solitude as a choice, though.

Well, with the ancient Sith, the True Sith as well as for the Sith species, they relied on relationships the same as most people, if for no other reason than to keep their population strong. But for the more ambitious and the ruling Sith, relationships meant weakness and presented blind spots that their opponents could use against them. By the time of the Sith ‘Rule of Two’, it was no longer about maintaining or growing a population of Sith, it was about hiding and operating in the shadows, only looking for those that they considered to have the greatest potential for great power and skill to be recruited to pass on their legacy, with never more than two Sith Lords and maybe a small group of hidden acolytes that would never be fully into the Sith unless one of the two Sith Lords proved useless or two troublesome or died. So while individual Sith of the Rule of Two often believed themselves to the exceptions to the Rule, they avoided becoming attached to their partners, if they even chose to have any, as they viewed that as weakness and an avenue that their revile could exploit as well as would’ve meant bringing one more mouth into the Sith plan who could slip up and give up their illusion that the Sith have died out. So for the Ro2 Sith, relationships were all but equated as attachments and forming such relationships should be avoided at all cost. For those Sith, everyone that they interacted with, for love, sex or business must be seen and used only to further the Sith grand plan and be discarded once they no longer needed them. I feel that the Rule of Two Sith would’ve been far stricter on the issue of relationships and attachments than even the Jedi Order at their most dogmatic.
Which rises the question of just how the plan even survived past Bane? Why did not a single one of these people who idolized being selfish egomaniacs simply say "screw this", settle down, and enjoy their life and power instead of training their own assassin?

It might have had to do with the Jedi and their (the Sith) desire to have revenge against them (the Jedi) for their ethnic cleansing campaigns over the millennia against the Sith. If they gave up the secrecy, they would’ve been toast and nobody would’ve picked up their cultural torch.
Based on SWTOR at least Sith preferred passionate, and wild romance, but without extreme love. Emotions are great to fuel the dark side, but love also can create weakness on it's own. Chosing to sacrifice yourself for the sake of your lover is a failure for the sith. However using love to fuel your rage against those who killed her is a good thing. So while love is not forbidden like for the jedi it is a risky route. But i think, that those who take it without being blinded by it could become more powerful on the dark side, than those who try to just refuse it.
I'm wondering, were there any "reverse Anakins" in the Sith? Basically a Sith that fell in love with someone and ended up going over to the Light Side because of it.
A reverse Anakin is eventually Darth Vader, someone who turned to the other side of the force because of their actions to save someone they loved. Though to answer your question, Starkiller is one who comes to mind.

But on a serious note if I was dark lord of the Sith I would zealously love and protect my loved ones . My PASSION to protect them would give me STRENGTH. Fueling my rage and POWER in turn. Love can be a powerful source of rage .The rage when others would dare to hurts those you love. Even in real life we get enraged when someone hurts a person we love.
I was always curious yes but also saw that it is indeed a case by case situation. I believe both sides can be right it just all depends.
No power is exclusive to either side of the force. In fact, there are no sides. Mortal minds are a simple prism through which one can view the force. Most are preoccupied with only their favorite hue. But all colors and shades are only fractions of the whole. The only thing that matters to it is that we help the Force grow, so it will in turn help us grow. It wasn't the joy that reversed Vader's healing, it was his guilt.

I think this is short sighted writing that fails to take into account all the other historical influences present within the lore. During the time of the Sith Empire, most were megalomaniacal, and they wouldn't want to dilute their blood line by marrying a non-force user, I think it far more consistent with the concept of a class-based society that Siths would only marry within their social class with the most powerful Sith's mating through arranged marriages in order to increase the power of their bloodline, both from a political sense and a mystical sense, i.e. power within the force. IMO whomever wrote this didn't think it through.
Two Force Sensitives won't necessarily produce another Force Sensitive. Revan and Bastila had a son who was not Force Sensitive.
Darth plagueis admitted to anther type of love which is way more interesting in his novel he tells young darth sidious he has love ... love with out compassion however and states that compassion has nothing to do with it

I believe both Jedi and Sith were partially right and wrong about their rules about attachments/love:
Jedi were correct that attachments may sway a Jedi’s decision from the most rational but they were also a great drive to protect what’s precious. Duty can take you so far but it’s not enough to be fulfilling. Of course you would have to be strong enough to withstand the loss of a beloved or else fall into the dark side.
As for the Sith, attachments could be seen as a weakness that may be exploited by enemies. However pain drives the dark side and personally, if you can’t protect a single being from death except by natural old age then really how powerful are you? I consider it weak to avoid attachments for fear that they’ll restrain you; you must be strong enough to handle anything and protect what’s yours (GL said a big thing with the Sith was their greed and jealousy)

This was something that George Lucas from many many different religious beliefs and order to make stones & and that was Chrisindom and the pastors not being allowed to marry therefore distorting the natural sexual impulses which is half the reason the Jedi order failed and that the chosen one became one of the greatest enemies.

This proves that the Sith are utterly weak because they ultimately don't understand true love and see it as a weakness.
There should've been a story about a Sith falling in love with a Jedi resulting in him slowly shifting to the light side, the Jedi seeing this actually wanting to help him to abandon the dark side faster, only for her to die once both his fellow Sith and the Jedi crash in and make her a collateral. Then the dude looses it, and the massive amounts of grief, rage and sorrow causes him to achieve such levels of dark side power he single-handedly slaughters both the Jedi and his fellow Sith.

Why wasn't Palpatine able to morph his ugly, unlovable features?
So, odd dumb question; what REALLY scared Anakin about being booted out by the Jedi? By this point, he had spent years listening to people who doubted he was the Chosen One, or accepted it, but thus didn't care about HIM; only what "the Chosen One" could do (for them), and he was already learning that the Order was wrong, if not bad, and misguided. He had lost his mother, but he had his wife, and soon they'd have a child. How bad would it have really been to set loose from the responsibilities, and sent home with Padme? Other Jedi had left the Order; they developed reasons, or disagreements, and they weren't killed, hurt, or stripped of the Force. He could have easily "done things his way", even well before the Dark Side dominated that way. Why keep going on, living in secret, subservient to flawed individuals who didn't respect him, or even know him, when superior options were kind of visibly there? Obviously, for the story, and maybe a little bit his own selfishness, greed, or hubris, and that lite bit of fate that needed him there to do the bad, help the good, and bring balance to the Force, but for someone who started to hate the Jedi, and wanted things outside their purview, it's odd he didn't just walk away, and seize a different life he wanted more.
It was all he knew that wasn’t slavery , he saw it as losing obi wan and he couldn’t take another loss after his mother and need the order to validate him , he couldn’t leave without it and went it was no longer an option he destroyed the order to prove himself.
It's hard to walk away from the only life you have ever known. Specially when you have invested years and years into that life (the sunk cost fallacy). You feel the need to justify everything you gave up and sacrificed. To give it some meaning and value. (Spoken from personal experiences)
So both sides shun love, this is why like a third side of the force would be neat that allows for emtions that are positive and teaches one to learn how to master their negative and not let them take control as opposed to the avoid at all costs policy of the Jedi. Third parties also can make for interesting plot points as well in general.
Also emotions are important to take into consideration as well as how else can you emphasize with the suffering of others and do good by them and focus on serving the people rather than the force, It makes the force kind of like a twisted villain in a sense really. Where people in the middle get killed for the wars that the Pawn's of the force, the Jedi and the Sith play as the force's toy and will slaughter billions willingly for the force to play their game of which shiny light is more important.
Power and love are the opposites of the same coin love doesn’t work for the sith and what they believe in so I can agree that they should discard love over power

Wrong on Malgus. We know WHO she was and we know how she died as well. You never read the novel clearly.
Malgus himself killed her and she was a Twi'lek. Officially she was a slave but Malgus treated her more like a wife then anything.
So the Sith are more people of culture, in a toxic way.

This reveals why the Dark Side is ultimately just as futile as the Republic-era Jedi. You can't achieve or build anything if happiness makes you weak (Sith) or fearful of loss and therefore vulnerable (Jedi). If you can't create anything you care about, what's the point? You're enslaved to ideals.
Luke's Jedi, who can form attachments, just have to understand that they are mortal and will return to the Force so don't hurt the innocent to avoid that, are the only modern Star Wars faction to produce a sensible, workable philosophy.
