    I have used the GLXD4 for about 4 years now with a number of different mic set ups and absolutely love this thing. I use it in a trailer/mobile lab tapped into the aux in on the stereo to output through the speakers, into a small mixer/amp into some JBL’s on a stick, and right into a small BOSE system and it’s has worked flawlessly in all instances. Never had an issue with the 2.4. 👍🏻😎👍🏻

    Scott! Hands down the best overview of the Shure GLX-D I've seen! We have four in our church set up and our pastor's mic gets this garbled sound as he's speaking. The other three (for singers) are off when he's speaking so there shouldn't be any RF interference, and the receiver is behind him only about 15 ft. Additionally, he uses an ipad and iwatch, and loves to hold the mic by the antenna (3 fingers over the lowest portion of the mic and his pinky tucked underneath the bottom). Have my work cut out for me on getting this resolved, now you see why I needed your video, thanks again!

      Yeah the GLXD can definitely cause problems. That’s interesting that his cuts out when everything else is off. It has the be the channel he is on. I would definitely change channels. Best of luck!

    I've Purchased a GLX-D Beta 87A about 4 Years Ago. And from the start it was horrible. The 2.4Ghz WiFi is the worst when in different environments or events. There's always FeedBack since the Capsule is a super cardio condenser mic and I get a weird wobbly / tremolo sound from it all the time. I literally stop using it anywhere outside my home. I only use it at Home for live streaming at close Range (Mic A Couple Of Feet From The Receiver) and have to turn off WiFi or switch all my Devices to The 5GHz so it doesn't interfere with the 2.4 Wi-Fi frequency from From The GLX-D. I have Updated Both Receiver and Mic to the Lastest Firmware Update and Auto Scan at every Venue / event and still doesn't work great.
    I'm now currently using The Phenyx-Pro Microphone System for all my Gigs and Events and never had any Issues.
    My advice to anyone looking to Buy The Shure GLX-D is to Keep it and Go with the SLX-D or QLX-D! Or if you want to save a ton of money and still get the same sound and Build Quality of Shure Microphones Systems. Go with The Phenyx Pro! You won't be Disappointed! 💯

    • @ScottUhlMusic
      @ScottUhlMusic  2 роки тому +2

      When I recommend Shure gear, I usually either recommend that people get the Shure blxr, slxd or ULXD (depending on budget). I love the design of the GLX, but it’s just giving more problems than it should at that price point in my opinion.
      And yes, I agree that the Phenyx pro mics are incredibly well designed! Especially at that price point. They are one of my favorites

    @ScottUhlMusic - Hi Scott, thank you for making this video. I have 2 lavalier GLX-D systems at church the WL185 capsule. What's the difference between the gain on the receiver and my mixer's channel gain? I am having feedback issues. I want to make sure I configure the source correctly before I start to ring out feedback frequencies. I find it weird that they don't act the same way. For example, I would expect both of them would have same the frequency response.

    • @ScottUhlMusic
      @ScottUhlMusic  6 місяців тому

      Gain should be set properly on both. You don’t want it to be too loud or too quiet on either the wireless or the mixer 👍

    Hi, so I've had my GLXD4 for around five years now and it has worked perfectly with very little drop out - however I recently changed from an analogue mixer to a Mackie DL16s wifi mixer and at the same time, added two additional wireless mics on UHF - and all of a sudden I am now experiencing dropout with my GLXD4, even when stood literally a metre between mic and receiver. The blue RF light keeps flashing . when I set it up at home to try to recreate the problem, it always works - then I take it out to use live for a show and the mic is constantly dropping out. The two mics I have added are Phenyx pro PTU-71UHF - no issues with them at all (brilliant in fact for the price) I have changed the GLDX4 to group 4/channel 1 which I understand should be most robust but I am still experiencing the same issues. Could this be the wifi from the Mackie desk which is causing signal dropout? I thought the GLXD4 was able to continuously scan to avoid this, hence its price tag! can you help? I may reluctantly have to let my shure GLXD4 go if I cant resolve this. Thanks

    Scott, great video and thank you. I wanted to ask your opinion on a few things. If I use 1 GLXD advanced rack mounted for vocals and another glxd as a wireless guitar (pedal version) on the opposite side of the stage. Would you recommend group setting 2 or 4 in that scenario on the mic? Also as an additional related question..... If we have the above glxd rack mounted side by side with a BLX advanced and two sennheiser g4 twins for IEM use, do you think that would have any issue with dropouts?

    • @ScottUhlMusic
      @ScottUhlMusic  3 роки тому

      I would use group 2 personally, but that’s a good question. You can experiment with both, but my gut says 2.
      And when you get to 4 antennas all next to each other you are usually ok. The BLX should be the only one that would give you problems if it does, but you got the advanced or R version with the external antennas. So again, you should be good 👍

I have never used a condenser microphone, and I think Beta 87a is condenser. I am intrigued with what you say about it being your favourite. I also have a bassey voice, and I need a clean microphone. I have also heard that condenser mics can pick up other instruments like drum cymbals and make a problem. What is your experience. Should I buy beta 58a or beta 87a.

    • @ScottUhlMusic
      @ScottUhlMusic  3 роки тому

      Yeah, that is the one downside IMO of the Beta87. If I'm playing right in front of the drum set, I can get a lot of bleed from the cymbals in my ears. So that's kind of the balance you have to find to not have the drums blaring the entire time, but not be too quiet for your vocals in your in ears. It's not a problem if you don't use in ears IMO. That's the only problem I've ever had with them. I definitely still prefer the beta 87c (A is for wedges, C is for ears is what Shure recommends)

      A yellow light? I’ve never seen a yellow light before. If it’s an amber light, that means there is a charging error and you should replace the battery or something is possibly wrong with the battery that needs to be replaced.

    Excellent video as usual, but why not just get the pedal for less and it has a built in tuner? Seems like it uses the same bass body pack. Major difference is balanced output and external antennas.

      @ScottUhlMusic  3 роки тому

      Yup, that is the main difference between them. It’s really up to you and what you want. That pedal is so convenient for sure! But having the battery port is really helpful as well, so it just depends on what works for your setup. Both are great for sure!

      @@ScottUhlMusic I bought the BLX14R but I don’t like how the bass pack is plastic, people may be snooping and prepping to interfere with my open analog signal and it’s huuuuge. I do like the AA batteries which even rechargeable AA batteries are cheaper, UHF to avoid WiFi interface.
      As a former diesel VW and Mazda rotary engine owner, I like quirky. UHF nowadays is quirky.
      Still eyeing this and the pedal. As you know, the bassist is by far the second most important band member behind the dummer. It would be a disaster if i dropped out or some jealous person messed with my signal (probably a guitarist, they all want to play bass). There’s a lot to ponder but you helped make my decision. Thanks!

      Glad to help out. I wouldn’t worry too much about people messing with your signal, but if you are worried about it, go up to the ULX-D which has encryption. It will cost you, but that’s an amazing wireless system.

      @@ScottUhlMusic the SLX sounds interesting and it’s UHF. There’s also the ULXD4 with can receive basically everything (900mhz, 2.4ghz, vhf, uhf, etc), I’m guessing they are using some sort of software based radio to switch technologies like that.

    • @ScottUhlMusic
      @ScottUhlMusic  3 роки тому

      I do not believe the ULXD does that. It’s just a large range in the 500mhz range

    The range on these isn’t too good and I’ve had trouble with interference on any group. They do work but it takes some messing with. Not good if you’re in the middle of a show…

      2.4ghz is the least reliable. Some people have great luck with it. I recommend the SLX to everyone over the GLX personally. I did a video on it here: ua-cam.com/video/5VwLi7VVRgQ/v-deo.html

    The small plastic clip (nose) that holds the battery in the charger breaks off after a while and there is no replacement part for it. No recommendation for this system.
