Thanks for watching everyone! If you are interested in the rackmount/tabletop version of the GLXD+ system, you can check out my review of that here: ua-cam.com/video/NY9odVszquY/v-deo.html It still has the amazing scan/sync feature, but it also has an AMAZING system for batteries/charging. Thanks again to Sweetwater, and don't forget to use the links in the description to purchase from Sweetwater. Cheers!🤘
You’d think Shure would produce a video like this. Thank you for the quality and depth of this video man. Answered all my questions about my new wireless system.
I have been using one of these systems since around 2015 and it has always performed flawlessly. I have the GLXD6-Z2 receiver and the GLXD1-Z2 transmitter. It does operate in the 2.4GHz band and to date I have not had any issues with interference. Still using the original battery :) I'm still using it for all gigs. Not low cost (especially in Australia) but highly recommended.
Went on tour with this bad boy and started having drop outs. Hopped off the stage and grabbed an instrument cable from the other band's and just did the rest of the show wired using the pass through (something that the original didn't have and the reason I never bought it). After reading the manual I figured out how to scan for channels and didn't have another dropout for the rest of the tour. Read you manuals lol
@@ScottUhlMusic yeah I felt like a jabroni haha ALSO the last rule in that video is something I wasn't following but now I know better. Thanks for sharing all of this info with us man
Awesome review! I just purchased one of these using your link. I'm a worship bass player, don't move around, only play on Sundays, but I HATE having that cord dangling around my feet.
This looks great. Wireless systems are a deep rabbit hole. Got the NUX 5.8 systems for bass and in ears last week after watching a ton of your videos. 30 years of happily playing with a cable...
I was a cable guy 2 but then I got a big electric shock at a shity venue 15 years ago. I bough a wireless system the following week and never played through a cable since then.
I’ve been using the previous 2.4 unit for years. I had one time where I had some drop out but just switched channels and was back in business. I have 3 packs and love the quick and easy guitar switching. I switch between acoustic and electric some. Going into the Helix is killer. May get a new one now that they are dual band.
This was the question I had. Can you use multiple transmitters with a single reciever. Your comment suggests this is possible. I prefer to have a backup guitar ready to go with it own strap/reciever. Question: is there a reciever "Mute" button for the backup guitar or do you turn off one and on the other? Thanks!
Why do I sometimes see a channel as a letter and other times it’s a number. Can’t seem to find an answer online. Great vid as always Scott! As a gigging coverband guitar player, your vids are a goldmine!!!!
Played a show outdoors with this system. I ran it on 5.8 because the other musician was using the legacy model. Well it cut out once for me! Never had any cut-outs with the old system! Not once!!
@@ScottUhlMusic because that's the only way to have it work alongside the legacy system! You have no choice but use 5.8. I've confirmed that with the support team, as well as the manual saying the same. Our bassist uses Shure GLXD16, so I have no choice.
Audio technica system 10 still crushes all for this application. Never have to touch it. Does all the scanning automatically. Has literally NEVER dropped out
I’ve looked at that one. I do love my AT in ear system. But that one is only on 2.4ghz where as this one is a dual band one and has the cool option of the pedalboard version. While you have been fortunate to not have 2.4ghz cut out on you, that won’t be the case for everyone. I do need to look into that system though. It looks cool! I like that the Shure is dual band though
I have multiple system 10 units. Standard model, pedal version (that doesn't have a tuner) and the pro rack version. They're great. Though one bodypack needs to be reset every single time. That's a bit annoying.
I've been wireless for yrs. Now my system is a AKG wireless bug system with battery powered receiver that starts my P board and a 5.8 Getaria rechargeable wireless out of board to amp. Been using this setup for 2 yrs w/o problems. Also have enough AKG bug systems to equip a whole band, 3 guitars, bass, keyboard, mic. Even could set up electric drum kit. Eliminates tripping on more cords on the ground.
Just subscribed. This was super helpful. I just purchased this system based solely on one product overview by Pete Thorn (which was awesome), but when I got the system, there very little instruction provided. Thank you so much for going through all of the features (I didn’t even know there was a “virtual capo/pitch shift” function..lol). I’ll definitely keep with your channel and spread the word. 🤘🎸!!
The tuner is kick ass and as a Peterson user, I love this one! I want it to show I'm tuning flat too! Great walk through. There is an external charger available too.
Great video Scott. Way out of my price range for wireless but nice to know the scene is moving on and innovating. I'm sure eventually the improvements will make their way out in cheaper devices. Thanks
Nice review here. Been using my Line 6 Relay G50 for 10 years but recently started using a wireless IEM system. Had several dropout issues despjte changing channels, RF modes and repositioning transmitters and receivers. Putting it down to the 2.4ghz band getting interference from other wireless devices. Thinking of getting this one as it has the 5.8ghz band too but have seen people still having drop out issues despite the newer additions.
Thanks for watching! No wireless is perfect. Hopefully this video will help you make a decision: Choosing the Right WIRELESS SYSTEM - A Comprehensive Guide ua-cam.com/video/Xi2JcMomjQ0/v-deo.html
The question may be silly but I’m planning to get this wireless system. But if I fly Can I take this system on my carry-on? And I’m asking because of the lithium battery. And I’m sorry if the question is silly but I’m new in this wireless system world
Badass! I just bought the NUX C-5RC (thanks for the review, it’s been awesome) so it might be a while before I pick this up but the tuner/wireless Combo is badass. Great review as always Scott!
I've used the NUX 5CR for about 9 months in my cello and the signal is coming out super hot and with lots of distor. I have the David gage pick up and also the pre-amp and both signals sound terrible, but...the guits and even the bass sound fine. I have tried the cello with cable and other wireless (on Scott's vids) and no problem...i almost cried cause the nux is the easiest to use, bring etc. I do a loooot of weddings that require no electricity and I thought it was going to be my way to go but recently had to buy this shure glxd16+
I bought this after watching your video and I think you need to update the part about the wired input connector being able to handle two guitars at a time. I was so bummed after trying it out! You can only use your wireless IF there’s no cable inserted in the input jack! I hate this parent because I’ve wired the entire board with external ports. I was hoping I can leave the panel jack plugged in 😢 6:46
I actually like the detune function. I just played with a group that tunes to Eb and I personally didn’t want to see the flats. I know you said you prefer to see it, but not me. My other main tuner is a Peterson and I use the “capo” function on that all the time for the same reason. Whether using a capo or tuning down, I’m still thinking through standard tuning ie. E A D G
I have the original GLDX16 Unit and I love it. I have played probably 30 - 40 live shows, probably 200 rehearsals with it and, I have never had one issue. I wonder if the new transmitter would work with the existing receiver if I had to replace it? Also, the antenna on the old transmitter moves a little and feels slightly janky so I bet that is why they improved that design. For the groups, are you saying that group 2 is best for 2 - 5 shure systems or just wireless systems in general. We have 4 wireless instruments and 4 wireless IEMs. wondering if I should change groups. We only have 2 shure wireless pieces and I have never left group 1. Also, never had one issue so I figure don't fix what isn't broken.
Hmm… I don’t believe it would pair with the new one, but I’m not 100% on that. That would be an interesting test. And I believe Shure was saying group 2 if you are using that many GLXD+ systems at once 👍 Yay for team needle and team right angle! 🤘🤘
I have the older version of this system so doesn't have the 1/4" in for bypassing the wireless. I've never used the tunings function. I just use my Quad Cortex for that but it's a nifty feature. I've also never been able to get into the settings mode but it's been working fine as-is for a many years now. Great wireless system that's been on my board since 2021. Oh, I use the right angle cable about 95% of the time.
curious to what you're saying around 7:15, I didn't think you could have a 1/4" plugged in and still use the transmitter wireless? Thought it was one or the other? Would love to have it hard wired on my board to the main 1/4" board input and still use it on bigger stages as a wireless without having to remove the 1/4" input from it? thanks, great review!
I’m pretty sure you can use both… that’s my understanding. Even if I got that slightly wrong, just leave the cable right next to it and it’s definitely still helpful 👍
I’ve got this system a few weeks ago and haven’t seen any video that mentions the usb-c connection at the receiver, my guess is that you can upgrade the system firmware trough there but want to confirm if there’s another use for that. Thanks a lot for this video, specially on the consideration of getting extra cables and batteries as they’re specifically made for SHURE equipment.
Great vid. decent explanation about use, features and how to use the system. Way better than the official shure manual or official vid. Their info is incomplete and substandard. Not good enough Shure 😡. Apart from that it’s an awesome system that is easy to use and ….. just …… works.
Suppose you want to use your amp's FX loop. You need to run the receiver's output jack to your amp's input. Then get two more cables for the send and return for rest of your pedal board. Does anyone do this? I tried the device yesterday and didn't have enough extra cables on hand. I just did the approach at 1:55. My amp's FX loop was unused.
I was wondering the same thing? I like using more than one guitar on stage and wonder if you have to shut guitar one off to access guitar two or can you leave both units on for quick and easy changes? @ScottUhlMusic do you know?
About the Detune Feature: I would love to have a tuner like this for my Trumpet. Trumpets are transposed, so when you play a noted C the "sounding" tone is a Bb (hope this makes sense in english). So it would be great to have a trumpet tuner with such a detune feature.
Great video, however I do have a few questions that no one seems to be able to answer: how exactly does the dual band work? Do you have to manually press the scan button to allow the pedal to find the best channel? Does each group use both bands simultaneously or does it randomly pick between one or the other? Can it use both bands simultaneously or two channels simultaneously or does it always only use one? What do you do if you get a dropout in the middle of a song, scan for another channel and get another dropout? Does it mean the pedal is incompetent at finding a best frequency? Can the pedal tell you the quality of the “best band” so that if the best band it can find isn’t good quality you can choose not to use the wireless instead of getting a surprise dropout?
I think if you are that nervous about it, you should go up to the Shure SLXD, QLXD or ULXD level. Those are a level up from the GLXD+ for more reliability 👍
Just bought this wireless system GLXD-6X due to my earlier version at times sounding like a wobbly chorus sound...could be because I have started using smart tech also 2.4ghz or whatever it is. So, the new GLXD16+ is way louder and quieter as regards artefacts than my earlier version, and now I can turn my Friedman Runt 20 combo up to LVL two which is great. Why is my new GLXD16+ louder and clearer sounding than my earlier version, pray tell? It has nothing to do with the built-in dbs as they are on the same lvls on both units.
Really noob question here but I'm deciding whether to use group 1 or group 2. We have two GLDX16+s and two PSM300s. I assume that when Shure says "systems" it means any wireless system right? Or is it just referring to the GLDX16s?
Thanks for the great video! I have a question, if the input on Shure connected to a junction interface (but no signal coming in) while I am using wireless transmitter does it mute the wireless signal?
@@ScottUhlMusic Out of all the 2.4GHz systems, the old Shure GLXD was king. I was looking to buy one about a year ago and learned that they discontinued it. However, I knew they would come out with a replacement, so I decided to wait. Now it's finally available, and it exceeds my expectations since it's dual band. I've ordered it from Sweetwater, and I should receive it in a few days.
Hi, I just got one of these and I am impressed so far. Only thing is, on mine, the jack lead at the pin connection side, the sleeve that you get to screw on and secure is a pain to get on. The sleeve doesn't want to screw on and catch on the thread very easy at all. Did you find this with this too? Thanks
You suggest in the video to use the cable input if you can’t get a clear channel, which begs the question: will the pedal tell you if the best channel found isn’t clear? Or will it let you use it at the risk of having surprise dropouts during your set? Because that’s what my GLXD-16 did, and why I got rid of it: I would scan before my set, it did connect and had no perceivable sound issues, but then would drop out literally 5 minutes later in the middle of the song. Had to stop the set and wait 30 seconds to scan a better channel and boom… dropped again on another song. Why is the pedal unable to determine and communicate the quality of the signal is beyond me.
I think if you are that nervous about it, you should go up to the Shure SLXD, QLXD or ULXD level. Those are a level up from the GLXD+ for more reliability 👍
Hi, you may have already answered this, so I apologize if you have. Have you tried the system at concerts? What frequency groups and bands do you prefer? Thanks for the tips!
I do go over groups in the video, as well as show footage of me using the pedal live in the video, along with interview my friend who took it on tour. It works great
I have the old model, still works perfect. only thing I had to change in 5 years is the small cable. only big change I see is that I can't use my old unit wired.
I love this one, but with the GTRS since my pedalboard is Bluetooth and doesn’t need power, probably not. But anytime I use my hx stomp I will very likely use this one 🤘 My other one is 2x the price and has more channels on UHF, so both work well.
Hi Scott! I'm also in the search of a reasonably good wireless system, both to connect my guitar to my HX Stomp, and then the HX Stomp to a single set of IEMs. Since the HX Stomp is a modeler, which by default adds around 5-6 ms of latency, I've been wondering how big would be the total latency of that combination. Maybe around 5-6 ms for each device, totalling 15-18ms from my fingers back to my ears. Do you find that total latency is noticeable on your shows? Did you have to adapt your playing to it?
I used this one with my hx stomp, and then a wireless going from hx stomp to a behringer x32 mixer, and then wireless going for my in ear monitors and there was no latency 👍
Where did you ever come up with by" default it's a modeler so it's got 5 to 6 milliseconds of latency" I've never heard of anything like that. Especially if you're talking about the HX stomp. Maybe on some old-school plugins. But standalone all-in-one pedals and newer all-in-one modelers I've been using them for years and I've never felt any latency. Sounds like you do more reading about gear than you do playing 🤨
@@maxammo6282 Every modeler adds latency to the signal chain, some of add less, some add more. I agree with you that the modern standalone units add so little latency that it's totally imperceptible. But my question wasn't about that, so you might read it again... I was worried about the whole system latency, which in my case would be the sum of the latency of a wireless connection between my guitar and the HX Stomp, the intrinsic HX Stomp latency, and then the latency of a wireless IEM system. I think it's a pretty fair question, since I don't have much experience with full wireless rigs, and I'm not willing to spend money just to find out that the total latency might be too much for my taste, specially because where I live we don't have the generous return policies that you guys have in the US. So maybe it's you that's trying to read too much on other people comments and playing too little, my friend.
Scott, have you tried to charge the transmitter right from the receiver? Like plugging a USB-C cable from the pedal to the pack? Does this charge the pack? Or do I have to use a wall charger? Would be cool to be able to just leave it on my board charging until I need it. Thanks
Hi Scott, if we are using some wireless systems (xvive etc.) that use 2.4ghz, would you still recommend keeping the GLXD16+ on dual band mode or would disabling the 2.4ghz band be more beneficial? I would imagine that if you keep it on dual band mode you'd have to remember to turn on the other wireless units first so that the GLXD can then do its scan?
If you are already using too many 2.4ghz systems, it might be best to switch to just 5.8ghz mode. Although if you turn your iems on, and then scan from the GLXD+, it will avoid those channels. Just be cautious using too much on 2.4ghz: ua-cam.com/video/RCrFKKr8WUA/v-deo.htmlsi=woc_ulONDd-DXAQS
so i use a UI12 soundcraft mixer which is a wifi that connects to my ipad and its mounted on my pedal board along with my other effects pedals is that going to interfere with GLXD+ cause i also want mount my shure wireless mic reciever to my pedal board as well
Great vid Scott. I just got one. I do have a question that does not seem to be covered. When changing channels, sometimes it displays a number, sometimes it displays a letter. What does that mean? I cannot find this info on Shure’s website or in the manual.
I prefer pedal board wireless systems if you are someone who uses a pedal board or modelers.. although I kinda think they should either use a standard input jack so you can use your own cables or come with a straight and an angled version in the box.. for me I use LTD EC so I prefer the low profile of an angled cable instead of a straight quarter inch sticking out of my guitar.. great video
So I can run 9v 100ma on this? I'm getting ready to buy this. I'm running power off a rechargeable joyo power brick. I have 12v 100ma and 9v 500ma on this as well. I just want to make sure since in this video mentioned it.
Always check the power requirements for it. I did a giveaway for this to one of my subscribers in a video after this video came out, so I don’t have it anymore
I have an older sure and an older audeotechnica system. I stopped using them because they make my guitar brighter so when I do solos in a higher register they sound very thin, losing any thicker lead tones on stuff like Allman Brothers ect, Whipping Post and such. Does this system do that or not??
Question how long did the first charge out the box take? Website says overnight ive had it charging for a while. Will the light eventually light up green? Its just flashing red while plugged in
@@ScottUhlMusic did it have a solid green light or still flash red? May just need to update it? Also when connected with the receiver, should a full charge show half of the red line or full? It may just be full charged but only shows a green light of i turn it on. Which means i’d have to just guess when its done
I honestly don’t know. The reason why you would do that is because a wireless doing a scan will see the wireless as “oh this channel is taken, don’t use it.” So you should shut it off when you initially scan so it can find all the available channels. I honestly don’t know if it knows to ignore it with the ID link or not. Best practice is when you do the first scan, have the transmitter off. If you do happen to get interference, then scan with the transmitter on
team needle all the way. In the video you say you can hook up wireless also you can hook up wired, with that in mind could you do both and 2 people play on same setup at the same time? Also how accurate is the tuner compared to the Boss TU3?
I've been using the Swiff Audio wireless guitar system for a couple months now and it's never failed me but I really want to upgrade to the Shure. The only thing that is keeping me from it is the price. They both get the job done, but is it a noticable difference at all? Is the Shure really worth spending more money? I understand that it has a tuner and many other features, which is another reason why I want to upgrade but does that truly justify the price? I just don't understand the difference between the Swiff Audio and Shure wireless guitar system when it comes to performance.
You will get more channels out of the Shure, as well as all the extra features. But hey, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it is completely fine too. Shure will definitely be an upgrade, just depends if you need it and it works for your setup 👍
Hey Scott, really good video! I have a comment and two questions. The input jack feature is a needed addition. I had the older 2.4 GHz version and bought the 16+ because of its dual-band capability and the input jack. My comment is that if you plug an instrument into the jack, that will automatically keep the wireless transmitter from working. So, you can't keep a cord plugged into the jack if you want to use the transmitter. My questions are first, do you have to link the transmitter to the receiver before every use? I linked it the first time I turned it on, following your video, and the units seamlessly connected, so do you have to go through that every time? I didn't have to do that with the older version. My second question is that just about every time I scan for channels (I just got it today, so I'm learning all about it before our next show this coming Friday), the group number stays the same (as it should), and the channel read-out is generally a letter (so far A-E) rather than a number. When will a number show up on the channel read-out? Is a letter assigned to one band and a number the other band (for example, is a letter designating a 5.8 GHz band that was found and a number indicates a 2.4 band)? Thanks for any advice you might be able to give me!
When they referred to systems in their email... do they main 1-2 Shure systems or overall digital wireless systems of any brand? I'm using the xvive IEMs... lead singer uses a 5g bug style system and I'll be using the glxd16+... we also have a router for monitor mixes. I'm guessing group 2 is the best option? Being that there are 4 separate digital devices running?
Scott i have a question, 1st thanks for your videos, I'm a cellist and this channel has helped me a lot to improve my gear in general. I've recently got this sure glxd16+ and, when I plug the transmitter to the USBc to charge, it kinda strobes RED on the led. Checked the manual and it shows only 3 modes of led signals when charging: RED (fixed) charging, GREEN (fixed) fully charged and AMBER (flashing) battery heating or Amber (Flashing) 'Battery error; remove and insert again, or replace battery". Now mine is flashing red when charging only...but the funny thing is that it charges the transmitter. HAve you seen this by any chance or heard anything from other users? have not tested another battery yet as I just got it this weekend. Thank you in advance.
Sure you can! I did that with this system actually when I was demoing it. GLXD+ into my hx stomp, then another wireless into our split snake (which split and went to FOH) 👍
I just picked this unit up doing a first time charge with supplied cable and wall plug. Bodypack still flashing red after 24 hours of charge time anyone else experience anything like this? I think its supposed to go solid green right?
I'm kind of confused at the groups part. By "systems" do you mean other wireless systems regardless of the brand etc.? I'm using mine in a place where there's 5 wireless mics and one other wireless guitar. There's wifi in the space, so would I use group 2 do you think?
I need to find that out on this one. I know the other table tap/rack one can, so I believe this one can? But it didn’t have directions in the manual for how to do that like it did on the other one, so I’ll need to look into it
I got a new one yesterday. I put the battery into the transmitter and kept it for charging. 24 hours later. The red led is flashing slowly. How much time does it take to turn green?
@@ScottUhlMusic Hi. I inserted the new battery (that came along with the Shure GLXD16+ box) into the transmitter. Closed the battery compartment cover of the transmitter and put it on charging using the USB-C cable and power adapter that came along with the Shure GLXD16+ box. It’s been 48 hours and the red led light on the transmitter keeps slow flashing. When the charging is complete is the led light supposed to turn green or what is supposed to be the indicator that battery has been fully charged? I hope my question is clear.
Hey Scott...thanks so much bro. Quick question...you mentioned that you can use one guitar wired and one guitar wireless...that is a huge convenience! However, how does that work? Will one be muted? Or are they both live and you just turn down the volume on the guitar itself? Thanks for your time.
I haven’t used both of them at once with this. But if you have a second guitar already hooked up to it and want to switch to the second guitar, that’s a cool feature about this pedal. On top of you can switch to a cable very quickly if you are in a very challenging RF environment 🤘
This is a killer unit. I personally own a Line6 G70 and love it for the same offerings other than the 5.8g option. Not sure if you ever reviewed the G70. Unfortunately, Yamaha killed it off after take over.
Man, I REALLY wanted this unit to work for me. I ordered 2 of them. Neither worked out. I was so bummed!!!! I'm curious if you've ever tried the Nady SMGT-100R system? You do nice job reviewing and I love to hear your thoughts. Thanks for providing your detailed reviewing services:-)
Thanks, glad you like the videos. How did these not work for you? I definitely have seen mostly positive comments on this system. Including two different touring artists who said they used it and it worked amazing for them
@@ScottUhlMusic Well, it just wouldn't connect properly. The blue RF LED would flash almost non-stop. I'd just switched from the Line 6 G50 systems, as they'd been acting up lately. They worked great for about 6-7 years. I bought 2 of the the GLDX16+ systems, as I was convinced they would do the job. They just didn't work out for me. I worked with a Shure engineer over about a 2 week period and he wanted to see them for himself. Perhaps a bad run?? Neither of my new systems would work. I had 6 straight nights of shows over fourth of July weekend. I couldn't get through the first song any of those nights. Every night, as soon as we started, my signal was audibly 'fluttering'. The fluttering sound was locked onto the flashing rate of the RF LED. I switched to a Westshell G7 I keep around as an emergency backup & it worked fine every single time. My band is pretty big with a large wireless network. In fact, we have (3) other GLXD/GLXD+ systems on guitars and they all work great! I was motivated to get mine working but the Shure engineer agreed that we'd done all we could. I love the input/wireless bypass jack. The tuner is superb! It locks onto a note super fast and it's bright enough to see clearly in direct sunlight. I hated that I had to throw in the towel, as I personally know many people that have tremendous success with this exact unit. We do have a ton of wireless devices, across all spectrums. (3) wireless guitars, (4) wireless vocal mics, a wireless midi device, (9) wireless IEM's plus a powerful WIFI router with a paddle antenna/amplifier for FOH control. It's a lot to contend with. I just cant figure out why the other (3) GLXD/GLDX+ systems always worked great but mine did not. Hopefully the (2) I bought are back into the Shure engineer's hands for testing. Thanks for listening. I've reached a point of obsession:-)
I cannot find anywhere on the internet how to charge the battery. I plugged mine in to a charger and it just keeps blinking red. I would think it would turn green when charged but it's been charging for days and still won't turn green. WTH?
@ScottUhlMusic sorry bout the dumb question. First time stepping into the wireless guitar field. I was worried I purchased the wrong one. The word pedal being in the name made me think it's only for effects wirelessly
Strobe vs. Needle...I'm on the fence. Strobe is said to be more "dead-on." I've seen a lot of luthiers swear by Strobe for intonation. My experience has taught me that needle sufficient for performance as long as a) your pitched instrument performers are tuning to the same center frequency (i.e. 440hz), an b) your instruments are set up with proper intonation. This is especially true with high gain guitar. A cent or 2 differential won't be that noticeable in a live setting. In the studio...it would probably be best practice to be as "dead-on" as possible.
@Scott Uhl I've definitely seen where you can seem to be accurate on a needle, and there was a slight flux at that point on a strobe. Again, I think it's more the environment and what is needed for it. If the band sounds in tune, they're going to sound good (in respect to pitch).
Yes, definitely 👍 dual band, far more channels, more range, longer battery life, the tuner, fits on a pedalboard, and it will work with basically all guitars (cheaper stuff doesn’t always work with all guitars… believe me, people comment when it doesn’t haha). Shure products work with everything 👍
Cheers!🤘
I’ve been gigging with this for a couple of months. No perceived dropouts, great tone and crazy long battery life.
Yup! It’s awesome! Such a solidly built system
You’d think Shure would produce a video like this. Thank you for the quality and depth of this video man. Answered all my questions about my new wireless system.
Glad it helped! 👍
I have been using one of these systems since around 2015 and it has always performed flawlessly.
I have the GLXD6-Z2 receiver and the GLXD1-Z2 transmitter. It does operate in the 2.4GHz band and to date I have not had any issues with interference. Still using the original battery :)
I'm still using it for all gigs.
Haha, yes, and ALWAYS know how to scan. That’s the first rule in my video here: ua-cam.com/video/Xgw96rY4TAc/v-deo.html
@@ScottUhlMusic yeah I felt like a jabroni haha ALSO the last rule in that video is something I wasn't following but now I know better. Thanks for sharing all of this info with us man
I saw Marc King using one of it (even previous version) live and then I got it. I love it.
Just updated to + version.
Best review of this product on UA-cam. Loving the channel 🔥
Thank you 🙏
Yup! New Sub here.
Just bought this system as an early Christmas present for my son. Hope it works well for him.
Awesome review! I just purchased one of these using your link. I'm a worship bass player, don't move around, only play on Sundays, but I HATE having that cord dangling around my feet.
Nice! Thanks for using the link and enjoy your new wireless 🤘🤘
I’ve had this for 2 or 3 years now and the thing is an absolute tank. Love the battery pack and it’s always great!
Nice! Glad to hear the older model is holding up well for you 🤘🤘
You’ve had the OLDER 2.4GHZ model. Not the new one.
@@tomulator ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
This looks great. Wireless systems are a deep rabbit hole. Got the NUX 5.8 systems for bass and in ears last week after watching a ton of your videos. 30 years of happily playing with a cable...
Nice! Welcome to the world of wireless. It’s impossible to go back now 😅
I was a cable guy 2 but then I got a big electric shock at a shity venue 15 years ago. I bough a wireless system the following week and never played through a cable since then.
How o you know when the transmitter is charged fully on the charger?
By the light 👍
Thanks!
@@wiley.arnett you can pair a number of transmitters to the pedal. You just can only have one transmitter powered on at a time.
My problem with this is why can’t those pedals use two simultaneous channels to avoid dropouts?
Why do I sometimes see a channel as a letter and other times it’s a number. Can’t seem to find an answer online. Great vid as always Scott! As a gigging coverband guitar player, your vids are a goldmine!!!!
Played a show outdoors with this system. I ran it on 5.8 because the other musician was using the legacy model. Well it cut out once for me! Never had any cut-outs with the old system! Not once!!
Why did you set it to just 5.8? I do not recommend that.
Thanks for the sub! Glad to help 🤘
I agree, the instructions that came with the system were very poor IMO. This video was a great help
Great video and suggestion by Grayson with real world situation and gaffers tape!!
Agreed!
Thanx for the best YT Tutorials! 🤘
Thanks
Thanks for watching! I think it’s well priced for what it does, but I know it’s not within everyone’s budget for sure!
Hopefully this video will help you make a decision: Choosing the Right WIRELESS SYSTEM - A Comprehensive Guide

The question may be silly but I’m planning to get this wireless system. But if I fly Can I take this system on my carry-on? And I’m asking because of the lithium battery. And I’m sorry if the question is silly but I’m new in this wireless system world
That’s a fair question, you should be able to fly with it is my guess
Badass! I just bought the NUX C-5RC (thanks for the review, it’s been awesome) so it might be a while before I pick this up but the tuner/wireless Combo is badass. Great review as always Scott!
Nice! Thanks for following the channel 🤘🤘 I appreciate it
I've used the NUX 5CR for about 9 months in my cello and the signal is coming out super hot and with lots of distor. I have the David gage pick up and also the pre-amp and both signals sound terrible, but...the guits and even the bass sound fine. I have tried the cello with cable and other wireless (on Scott's vids) and no problem...i almost cried cause the nux is the easiest to use, bring etc. I do a loooot of weddings that require no electricity and I thought it was going to be my way to go but recently had to buy this shure glxd16+
side note: the NUX thing started happening around 6 months after I got it new with less than 300hrs of use.
Awesome video!!! Thank you . I actually bought this because of this video. This is an amazing wireless system absolutely love it !!!
Team needle! Lol
Nice!! Glad to hear that 🤘
My Question Is How Can You Tell Or Checks What’s The Battery Life Like On The Table Top & Rack Mount Versions?
They are both great and have battery indicators. 12 hours on each 👍
I bought this after watching your video and I think you need to update the part about the wired input connector being able to handle two guitars at a time. I was so bummed after trying it out!
You can only use your wireless IF there’s no cable inserted in the input jack! I hate this parent because I’ve wired the entire board with external ports. I was hoping I can leave the panel jack plugged in 😢 6:46
You would want to use it with a second guitar to go into your board though, so you can have one hard wired and one wireless
You’re going to have to get a storage space for all your devices and equipment. 😁
Great reviews. Very helpful.
😂😂 that’s a good problem to have! Haha thanks man
Thanks for another great review Scott. Always great content.
Thanks Paul!
TEAM NEEDLE 100%
Also the right angle cable is a must.
Hmm… I don’t believe it would pair with the new one, but I’m not 100% on that. That would be an interesting test. And I believe Shure was saying group 2 if you are using that many GLXD+ systems at once 👍
Yay for team needle and team right angle! 🤘🤘
Old receivers wint pair according to the manual for the D+
I have the older version of this system so doesn't have the 1/4" in for bypassing the wireless. I've never used the tunings function. I just use my Quad Cortex for that but it's a nifty feature. I've also never been able to get into the settings mode but it's been working fine as-is for a many years now. Great wireless system that's been on my board since 2021. Oh, I use the right angle cable about 95% of the time.
Yeah the right angle is the only ones I prefer to use!
The Sennheiser xswd is also a great choice for pedalboard systems
I do not believe it’s dual band though
curious to what you're saying around 7:15, I didn't think you could have a 1/4" plugged in and still use the transmitter wireless?
Yeah it’s for firmware updates 🤘
Great vid. decent explanation about use, features and how to use the system. Way better than the official shure manual or official vid. Their info is incomplete and substandard. Not good enough Shure 😡. Apart from that it’s an awesome system that is easy to use and ….. just …… works.
Thanks! And yeah, it’s a great system for sure!
I’m all direct now, so I’m not the best with 4 cable method stuff. But with 4 cable method, you will definitely still have quite a few cables 👍
can you use more than one transmitter on it? and if so which one?
I was wondering the same thing? I like using more than one guitar on stage and wonder if you have to shut guitar one off to access guitar two or can you leave both units on for quick and easy changes? @ScottUhlMusic do you know?
Yeah I’m almost positive that you can 👍 Details on how to do that are in the manual. You just cannot have them both on at the same time
@@ScottUhlMusic alright thank you man, planning to buy it with my birthday money
About the Detune Feature: I would love to have a tuner like this for my Trumpet. Trumpets are transposed, so when you play a noted C the "sounding" tone is a Bb (hope this makes sense in english). So it would be great to have a trumpet tuner with such a detune feature.
Ahhhh interesting! I didn’t think about that
Btw I’ve just ordered this, can’t wait to test it out at the big stage soon.
Nice!! Enjoy 🤘🤘
Love this idea! Love this product! I just picked mine up. Looking forward to losing the cord!!!
Nice! Enjoy 🤘🤘🤘
Have a beer on me!
Thank you! 🤘
Hi thnx for the video. Great how do I connect to to my range of pedals
Use this as your first pedal in your pedalboard 👍
That I’m not sure, but if it’s not clipping, it won’t matter. Just adjust accordingly 🤘
Thank you...@@ScottUhlMusic
Really noob question here but I'm deciding whether to use group 1 or group 2. We have two GLDX16+s and two PSM300s. I assume that when Shure says "systems" it means any wireless system right? Or is it just referring to the GLDX16s?
Just the GLXD systems 👍
I have a question, could you use this system with a microphone? Like in the case of an electric violin?
I’m assuming you could pair a mic to it. There is the rack mount version that will be good for that too
@@ScottUhlMusic for what I understand you can? but I wanted to be sure. Because we use it with fx pedals. So I guess it will... Thanks for the reply
Thanks for the great video! I have a question, if the input on Shure connected to a junction interface (but no signal coming in) while I am using wireless transmitter does it mute the wireless signal?
It’s been a while since I did the video, but I believe so, yes
@@ScottUhlMusic thanks mate!
Team needle! Just ordered my GLXD+
Definitely team needle!! Nice Ahrue, let me know what you think. It’s such a great system 🤘
Nice! And yeah 100%, the GLXD was the best 2.4ghz. Now that it’s a dual band system, it’s absolutely king 🤘
Thanks
I haven’t found that with mine, no
What kind of holder do you use with it to hold it with your strap?
You can use the built in one, or they make certain “wireless pouches” for your guitar straps 👍
@@ScottUhlMusic oh, it has a built in one. Thank you for the info!
Simply the best for me. It just works!
It’s such a simple and smart design!
The dual band is definitely valuable to have, but: “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”
can you set up that tuner for bass .. like tu-3
It should work for bass as well 👍
Oooooh great review, I want it. Pickles. Peanut Butter. Die Hard is a Christmas movie. It's gonna be May...
😂😂😂 you should get an award for knowing all 4!
great vids Scott (both). So this is "replacing" your high end Senheisser?
I love this one, but with the GTRS since my pedalboard is Bluetooth and doesn’t need power, probably not. But anytime I use my hx stomp I will very likely use this one 🤘 My other one is 2x the price and has more channels on UHF, so both work well.
Any experiences with Fractal FM9?
Not really, a friend of mine has one but I haven’t messed with it beyond that
@@ScottUhlMusic Awesome to hear that! I'm going to try a similar setup then! Thanks for the feedback!
Can the receiver sit on top of the amp? Or does it have to be somewhat away from the amp on the floor.
You can put it wherever, but if you put it on the amp, the rack mount version might be a better option
@@ScottUhlMusic thank you!
Awesome review! Team Needle!!
Thanks! Definitely team needle 💪
Scott, have you tried to charge the transmitter right from the receiver? Like plugging a USB-C cable from the pedal to the pack? Does this charge the pack?
Or do I have to use a wall charger? Would be cool to be able to just leave it on my board charging until I need it. Thanks
I can’t remember tbh, I did this as a giveaway on a video eventually to a subscriber
Doesn’t plugging a cable into the input jack bypass the wireless?
Yes 👍
@@ScottUhlMusic Thanks! That's what I thought as well.
so i use a UI12 soundcraft mixer which is a wifi that connects to my ipad and its mounted on my pedal board along with my other effects pedals is that going to interfere with GLXD+ cause i also want mount my shure wireless mic reciever to my pedal board as well
Using 2 wireless devices isn’t something to worry about in almost all situations 👍 just keep the wireless GLXD+ away from your router 👍
Great vid Scott. I just got one. I do have a question that does not seem to be covered. When changing channels, sometimes it displays a number, sometimes it displays a letter. What does that mean? I cannot find this info on Shure’s website or in the manual.
That’s just how it labels the channels. 1-9 or A-F or whatever it goes to. You can’t fit 1-20 on the screen, so they switch to letters at that point 👍
I prefer pedal board wireless systems if you are someone who uses a pedal board or modelers.. although I kinda think they should either use a standard input jack so you can use your own cables or come with a straight and an angled version in the box.. for me I use LTD EC so I prefer the low profile of an angled cable instead of a straight quarter inch sticking out of my guitar.. great video
Yeah for anyone who uses a pedalboard, this design of the GLXD+ definitely makes sense!
@@ScottUhlMusic biggest seller is the scan and sync and the tuner
So I can run 9v 100ma on this? I'm getting ready to buy this. I'm running power off a rechargeable joyo power brick. I have 12v 100ma and 9v 500ma on this as well. I just want to make sure since in this video mentioned it.
Always check the power requirements for it. I did a giveaway for this to one of my subscribers in a video after this video came out, so I don’t have it anymore
Great review ! I did like it
It’s a great system for anyone with a pedalboard 🤘 such a smart design!
Nux B8 or save up more and get this Shure?
Both are great, this one is better because it’s dual band 👍
@@ScottUhlMusic so basically the extra $$$ is worth it or its subjective?
I have an older sure and an older audeotechnica system. I stopped using them because they make my guitar brighter so when I do solos in a higher register they sound very thin, losing any thicker lead tones on stuff like Allman Brothers ect, Whipping Post and such.
Does this system do that or not??
This one sounds great!
Question how long did the first charge out the box take? Website says overnight ive had it charging for a while. Will the light eventually light up green? Its just flashing red while plugged in
Interesting…. That I don’t know. Mine was charged after I plugged it in overnight
@@ScottUhlMusic did it have a solid green light or still flash red? May just need to update it? Also when connected with the receiver, should a full charge show half of the red line or full? It may just be full charged but only shows a green light of i turn it on. Which means i’d have to just guess when its done
On the old system, to do a channel scan you had to turn off the transmitter. Is that different now?
No, you cannot do that. And I find the tuner to be very accurate 👍
I believe just with Shure, but I highly recommend to not use a bunch of stuff in 2.4 or 5.8 (especially 2.4)
I haven’t seen that, so I’m not sure what’s happening. I would contact Shure about it. Thanks for following the channel!
Can I go from my last pedal to FOH mixer? Maybe a weird question, but I have a differentish set up and this might fix a prob. Thanks Scott!
That’s odd, I would message them. You can get a defective unit sometimes, but good thing they have warranties 👍
My new unit also flashed Red after many hours of charging yet it did charge it as receiver shows increased battery capacity
I'm kind of confused at the groups part. By "systems" do you mean other wireless systems regardless of the brand etc.? I'm using mine in a place where there's 5 wireless mics and one other wireless guitar. There's wifi in the space, so would I use group 2 do you think?
It means how many other Shure GLXD+ systems there are… or other 2.4ghz/5.8ghz systems
I use a Kemper Stage…are there any known issues using the GLXD16+ with profilers or modelers? Thanks!
Nope 🤘🤘
@@ScottUhlMusic great...thanks!!
Thank you soo much will do😊
Can this one pair with two or more transmitter packs?
I need to find that out on this one. I know the other table tap/rack one can, so I believe this one can? But it didn’t have directions in the manual for how to do that like it did on the other one, so I’ll need to look into it
What’s strobe & needle?
The way the tuner displays
I got a new one yesterday. I put the battery into the transmitter and kept it for charging. 24 hours later. The red led is flashing slowly. How much time does it take to turn green?
I’m not sure I understand the question… but you should charge the battery before using it
@@ScottUhlMusic Hi.
What’s the latency for both frequencies?
Not noticeable when playing 👍 if you notice latency, you are likely getting compounded latency
Do you know if this uses wifi 6e or wifi 7? If not it seems Abit short sighted as those protocols allow more channels
Also I'm firmly in team strobe
Not currently. I’m sure more wireless will begin to use that in the future, but this one is 2.4 and 5.8 👍
This is a killer unit. I personally own a Line6 G70 and love it for the same offerings other than the 5.8g option. Not sure if you ever reviewed the G70. Unfortunately, Yamaha killed it off after take over.
Since this one is on both 2.4 and 5.8 it definitely wins for sure! Very smart design from Shure
Hey Scott, with the groups using 1-2 units or 2-5 systems, is this referring to any wireless systems or just shure ones? Cheers.
Also how many times did you have to scan per show? Cheers.
The number of Shure GLXD+ systems you are using at once 👍
@@ScottUhlMusic thanks. Do you still use it and still no major issues? Cheers.
I've reached a point of obsession:-)
hi man.. are this glxd has crystal clear sound quality?
My tone philosophy: I plug it in, if it sounds good, I use it. I used this at multiple shows and it sounded great 👍
Why have 2.4 on the new pedal ?
Because then you have both options. 2.4ghz still works more times than it doesn’t. I’m glad it has both
I cannot find anywhere on the internet how to charge the battery. I plugged mine in to a charger and it just keeps blinking red. I would think it would turn green when charged but it's been charging for days and still won't turn green. WTH?
Battery might be defective. You do just need to plug it in, or you might have a weird charging cable. Mine charged without problems
Turn off the transmitter, hold in the link button and turn on the transmitter. Fixed it for me. Saw this on. Shure FAQ.
Apologies but does this act as a wireless guitar system?
Yes, wireless for guitar/bass/etc 👍
Yeah I have heard that strobe is a lot more accurate too… I’ve just been so used to needle for so long 😅
@Scott Uhl I've definitely seen where you can seem to be accurate on a needle, and there was a slight flux at that point on a strobe. Again, I think it's more the environment and what is needed for it. If the band sounds in tune, they're going to sound good (in respect to pitch).
Did he say 500ms latency when standing at the soundbooth? That sounds like a lot...
When you are that far away. He said “as long as you aren’t doing catwalk gigs you should be fine”
But.....worth 10x the price of a Lekato 5.8 plug system? (or other ones you've reviewed?)
