Hi! I have a question and I was wondering if you could help me with your recommendation. I currently have the Shure BLX14 H10 guitar wireless system. I’ve had it for a year now and recently I’ve been having issues with it. I’m a dancing violinist and I usually step away from my set up during gigs especially when I play at big venues. I had a gig this past weekend and it was the worse it’s ever been. It was a backyard party and when I would step a little bit away from my set up the volume would significantly get lower then all of a sudden the volume would return to normal and this would happen back and forth. It would also cut out when I stepped pretty far away from the wireless. I know it’s not a cable issue or a battery issue because I have a new backup cable and I tried it with that one and I tried changing the batteries and it still did the same thing. My question would be if you think I need to upgrade my wireless since the one I have you mentioned is only for small spaces not for using at big venues or concerts. Or what your recommendation on the matter would be. I move a lot when I play I like to go into the audience where people are sitting at venues and interact with them so I’m usually not close to my set up. I’ve been watching your videos and these wireless systems stood out to me and was wondering if any of these would be a good option or which ones you would recommend. 1. Shure BLX4R (Because it has the detachable antennas but would it be good for big venues?) 2. Shure QLXD14 Wireless Guitar System - G50 Band (Pro Level) 3. Senheiser EW100 or 500 (Your favorite / would it be good for big venues?) Thank you for your time!

Size of venue honestly don’t really matter. It’s how many wireless you use at once. Check out this video: Choosing the Right WIRELESS SYSTEM - A Comprehensive Guide ua-cam.com/video/Xi2JcMomjQ0/v-deo.html
What did you end up buying and how is it working for you ? We do a magic show and are going into a venue for regular shows of about the same size. Receiver will be in the wings or backstage so pretty close, any ideas or thoughts to share? Thx
How would you say that BLX with the exterior antennas compares to something like the Phenyx Pro 71 or 7000? Regardless of how many channels, but would you say the quality is actually kind of similar?
@ScottUhlMusic you rock, literally! We are going to pick up two of the SLXd But we wanted a low priced option as a backup set for us So I think we will Just go with the Phenyx since we may never use it And it's half the price The 71... keep up the good work!
Hi. Thanks for this excellent and complete video. I have a BLX4 transmitter and a wireless sm58 but it doesnt match : I set the same frequencies on the mic than what the transmitter proposes but the "ready" light doesnt switch on. I noticed that its written BLX2 H8E on the mic. Maybe it can't fit with my BLX4 ?
@@ScottUhlMusic Thanks for your answer. No they aren't 😢. Mic is 518-542 Mhz and the blx4 is 614-638 Mhz. That means it wont work and I must send back the product ? (How can the seller - professionnal and well-known on internet - make such an error while sending me a new mic without asking me before the range of my receiver ? Since this was already a product exchange because the first mic they sent me had a problem of saturation on high frequencies)
Cause I'm gonna have outdoor busking currently, I want to know if it is possible to pair wireless Beta58A with Shure BLX Wireless System, and then connect all the setup to an amplifier?

Thank you for your insightful video. I followed your advice and went for a BLX4R system with antennas. My question is, if I wanted to use it along with bluetooth speaker for presentations and take advantage of the battery powered speaker that allows me to place it at a distance from the the BLX station, do you have any suggestion for connecting both wirelessly? Do you have any suggestion for a battery powered bluetooth transmitter/receiver pair than I can connect to the BLX station and the speaker?
@@ScottUhlMusicyes, by wireless I meant Bluetooth. Is it because of latency issues? Should I look into WiFi (such as 2.4 GHz) instead? But then, I don’t know if there are any battery powered devices in that category.
Thank you so much bro great review, so five years ago i bought the same model for worship six mics to be exact and only recently i have been experiencing a few problems. 1 of the mics keep turning off whenever i turn it on, i turn it on and it just switches off on fully recharged batteries (same brand you suggested). 2 the other mic sometimes it turns red again on full charged batteries. Third question i have is what is the lifespan of these model and how can i service them. also what precautions should i mind just to increase its lifespan.
You should be able to message Shure and get it repaired. I’ve done that before and my singer has as well. It takes a little while, but they are good with repairs. I haven’t had that happen to mine, so I’m not sure what it could be. But Shure has good customer service and would be able to help 👍
The only thing I didn't understand my friend is if there were better models for different areas I bought the j11 model and went to the shure frequency finder... and I was only limited to three mics to channel when some of the other models had up to 9 or 10 I wonder if I made a mistake buying the j11 frequency model for the Colorado area.... I would always only be using the system with just me and one wireless microphone system that's it.
@@jcantc1 you can use 4 transmitters and 4 receivers all at once, yes. Just make sure the antennas are spaced out or you use a distribution system at that point

I'm currently using the blx4 with a lapel mic for wedding ceremonies. I've been having issues with it cutting out. Would you recommend scanning for a better "open" channel or are there any other troubleshooting things I should try to help with this issue?
Cutting out can be so many things. Always have direct line of sight. Scanning before an event is definitely important. Those are the first two important steps.
@jaredbaronner5354 hey brother I know its late, but I have had the system cut out if a pastor reads his verses off his phone. The phone was messing with the frequency I'm assuming. Jist another thing to check off the list 😊
Secondly who make decent ducking systems? We play 50 music during the cruise nights and want them Shure mic to mute the music when starting to talk. Any help on that would be appreciated also. THANX

does all System 10 Mic Transmitters have the complete band range of H9, H10, H11 & J11 (meaning, all in one) or do they just have 1 Band and must be specifically compatible with the band of the Receiver?
I’m not sure what “system 10 mic transmitters” means. But if you have a H9 receiver, you need a H9 transmitter. If you have a J11 receiver, you need a J11 transmitter, etc 👍
@@ScottUhlMusic thanks for the reply ... but to make sure i really got it right, if i have the "H9 unit", the mic that came with the unit cannot be used by someone who has an H10 receiver ... or if i want a body pack, it must be specifically for H9 (and not H10 and others) btw, forgot to mention previously, your video was really helpful to me ...

hi! nice video, I'm looking for a wirless sistem that can have a processor for mic also, I use a head mic shure wh20 and I want only one hardware that is wirless sistem and processor also to improve equalization and the sound of it. Thank for your videos!
Thanks for the explanation of the system. I was wondering since on the back of a 288 there are two instrument out ports, any chance you can mix these two to a single output sending to a device, like a Zoom session running on a laptop?
I tried to look it up, but I couldn’t find info on that. I used to own a 288 and I swear I do remember there being a way to combine them, but I could be mixing it up with another system, so I honestly do not know. If there isn’t a way to do that in the system itself, you could always get a cable that can do that which would probably work best for you 👍
BLX is analog. If you want Digital, you can look at the PGX system. And this one does not have encryption. The lowest level of Shure that has encryption is the QLXD system.... which is a great system!
I guess yes.... but I’ve never ever had that happen. I couldn’t even count the number I’ve shows I’ve played with non-encrypted wireless and never had that problem. Who did you piss off to be worried about that? 😂😂
@@ScottUhlMusic what if I’m “playing” bass for Bruno Mars, Ashlee Simpson, Mariah Carey or some other artist that doesn’t really sing live or have bands that play music. I don’t want someone to snoop into my ears or my guitar pack and find out I’m playing to a backtrack. Everyone loves me, maybe I’m just overthinking this. This is also why I don’t want 2.4Ghz.
Hahaha. I guarantee you will not see a BLX system on stage at a Bruno Mars concert. They use the Axient system which is meant to use over 100 at a time. ULXD absolute minimum. Both of those have encryption and way more features too.
Hi! Great video :) I’m just wondering, would you really recommend the sm58 wireless over the pg58? Does the SM58 sound as warm and bright wireless as it does wired? I can’t figure out if all the letters and numbers (S8/T11 etc) after mean much, and their all pretty similar or which would be the best to go with if the sm58 really is much better to go with? I read the sm58 is ‘a bit flatter in the mid-range while the pg58 is brighter and has more presence’ - would you agree or disagree on this?! Also, please tell me these mics don’t have a handling noise? 😊
The sm58 capsule will sound the same on any wireless. The quality of the audio doesn’t change from system to system. I’m not as in depth with the tone analysis… to me it’s “does it sound good? Then use it.” To me I like the beta 87, which you need to get an Slx or QLX or ULX to get those. I will say, even though I’m not as picky on tone, even I hear a difference from the pg58 to the sm58. The pg58 has a lot of handling noise
@@ScottUhlMusic Thanks a mill for answering this!! Just ordered the BLX24 SM58 after all and by what you’re saying, it has little to no ‘handling noise’ ? It’s meant to sound great as a mic I’ve heard, and I’m sure it sounds lovely!! :) And you don’t need an XLR cable for that mic? If I’m correct, I appreciate your feedback and answers, so thank you! I’m glad I’ve chosen the SM58 over the PG58 over its ‘handling noise’ - I’m hoping the mic I’ve chosen really doesn’t have much handling noise after all! :)
@@maireadaine1635 All microphones have SOME handling noise. But the Sm58 is the industry standard for a reason. You do not need an XLR for the wireless mic. You will need a small one to go from the receiver unit into a mixer/speaker/etc. Enjoy the wireless!

1. Shure BLX4R (Because it has the detachable antennas but would it be good for big venues?)
2. Shure QLXD14 Wireless Guitar System - G50 Band (Pro Level)
3. Senheiser EW100 or 500 (Your favorite / would it be good for big venues?)
Thank you for your time!

What did you end up buying and how is it working for you ? We do a magic show and are going into a venue for regular shows of about the same size. Receiver will be in the wings or backstage so pretty close, any ideas or thoughts to share? Thx
Once again my wireless guru I require your guidance... Is the blx4r a true diversity since it has 2 antenna?
I don’t believe so, but I could be wrong on that
How would you say that BLX with the exterior antennas compares to something like the Phenyx Pro 71 or 7000? Regardless of how many channels, but would you say the quality is actually kind of similar?
They are pretty similar at that point. SM58 will sound a little cleaner, but both are completely useable

Are they in the same band? ua-cam.com/video/3zuHC2m0l3s/v-deo.htmlsi=1AoXiNoRjdWRM3ag
Yup 👍 just make sure it’s the same band: ua-cam.com/video/_lvzZPRyOwo/v-deo.htmlsi=AIG6cLXvMBpxeGOf

I would get a different band if it said only 3 systems were available for some reason
Thank you so much fam! This was really helpful!
Glad to help 🤘
Is it possible for a 4 mic set upp for the sm58?
@@jcantc1 you can use 4 transmitters and 4 receivers all at once, yes. Just make sure the antennas are spaced out or you use a distribution system at that point

I'm currently using the blx4 with a lapel mic for wedding ceremonies. I've been having issues with it cutting out. Would you recommend scanning for a better "open" channel or are there any other troubleshooting things I should try to help with this issue?
Cutting out can be so many things. Always have direct line of sight. Scanning before an event is definitely important. Those are the first two important steps.
@@ScottUhlMusic thank you! I’ll start there
@jaredbaronner5354 hey brother I know its late, but I have had the system cut out if a pastor reads his verses off his phone.
The phone was messing with the frequency I'm assuming. Jist another thing to check off the list 😊

Bro how do you fix the microphone signal dropout from this receiver ? Very annoying
Man, interference can come from SO many places. Try scanning, keep it away from other wireless, and make sure it’s in a legal band for your country 👍
What happens if you get the ready light on but there is no audio?
I haven’t had that happen before. You’ll have to problem solve. There are so many possibilities
Thanks for an excellent, instructive video! you helped me out a ton as i have 4 blxr systems at my work place and zero understanding of them before this. TOP NOTCH!

Great job and much appreciated, brother!! 😃 Got the PGX 58 for Karaoke and Weddings, this okay ? Wish I'd have watched this before I used the mics last night, LOL........Too hot!! I see I can cut the gain/DB by holdin' the dang channel button....hope that gives me more control (Karaoke) of the singers volume!!??
“Too hot” can be at different stages on the signal chain depending on your setup. But these mics are very well designed and should not be too hot by default. But they are great mics and it will work well 🤘I did a video on the pgx here: ua-cam.com/video/TtEtzhAkORE/v-deo.html
im not sure if i got it right you plug this using Y wire to an aux input on a stereo receiver just like you plug a laptop of an auxiliary source is that right?. like i fond a cheap blx4 receiver with no mic can i get any shure wireless in it or i need the mic that come with the receiver so i can set frequency and groups at the same. im thinking about sending this to someone who sing everyday in philippines. i have a two sm58 wire. can i get a wireless transmitter in those to connect with this wireless receiver?
I’m not sure I understand, but you will need to order a specific wireless sm58 to go with the blx series
How many ms is the latency for the BLX analog for a guitar?
Not noticeable at all 👍
Hi can we use Sennheiser Antenna for SHURE
I would try not to mix and match with the 1/4 wave antennas… but I honestly haven’t tried
@@ScottUhlMusic you said you have not tried 1/4th waves antenna. Shall we use Active Directional Antenna Sennheiser for SHURE or SHURE for Sennheiser? Because all brands Band width comes around same right.
Yeah with the directional antennas I know you can mix and match as long as they are in the same frequency range 👍
does all System 10 Mic Transmitters have the complete band range of H9, H10, H11 & J11 (meaning, all in one) or do they just have 1 Band and must be specifically compatible with the band of the Receiver?
I’m not sure what “system 10 mic transmitters” means. But if you have a H9 receiver, you need a H9 transmitter. If you have a J11 receiver, you need a J11 transmitter, etc 👍
@@ScottUhlMusic thanks for the reply ... but to make sure i really got it right, if i have the "H9 unit", the mic that came with the unit cannot be used by someone who has an H10 receiver ... or if i want a body pack, it must be specifically for H9 (and not H10 and others)
btw, forgot to mention previously, your video was really helpful to me ...
@@jsa-tg3ht Ah gotcha. Correct, the H10 receiver would not work with an H9 mic. You have to match up the transmitter and receiver for them to work!
@@ScottUhlMusic Excellent video.. Thanks.. I have a BLX4-J10 receiver (584-608 MHz), I need a compatible bodypack and it seems this band is not available anymore because I don't see this option when trying to buy in amazon. What can I do? Can I use a J11 (596-616MHz) ?
@@genuimentor You would have to sync it up manually, but I would NOT recommend that because now you only have 596-608Mhz as options. I would look online for a used J10 receiver. There are quite a lot of them on Reverb and Ebay. You SHOULD go the same band for transmitter and receiver
Can you use 2 Mics with this blx4 system?
Not at the same time, no. But if you turn one off and the other one on and they are set to the same channel
I have the dual system with pg58 mics. Is it possible to upgrade the capsules? Ave if so what are my options? Was considering beta 87 if it could be done
You can upgrade to certain ones for the capsules. But not the beta 87. You can get the beta 87 once you get to the GLX/SLX level
I bought the blx 88 and I'm having a really hard time with feedback I'm connected to my DJ controller for weddings mostly
Feedback isn't an issue with the wireless. Feedback comes from elsewhere
Did you EQ your room.?
hi! nice video, I'm looking for a wirless sistem that can have a processor for mic also, I use a head mic shure wh20 and I want only one hardware that is wirless sistem and processor also to improve equalization and the sound of it. Thank for your videos!
Glad you liked the video, thanks! 🤘
If there isn’t a way to do that in the system itself, you could always get a cable that can do that which would probably work best for you 👍
Very good review. Do you know if the audio is digital or encrypted?
BLX is analog. If you want Digital, you can look at the PGX system. And this one does not have encryption. The lowest level of Shure that has encryption is the QLXD system.... which is a great system!
@@ScottUhlMusic If it’s analog can’t some snoop on our channel and mess with it?
Hi! Great video :)
I’m just wondering, would you really recommend the sm58 wireless over the pg58?
So if you don’t want handling noise, definitely avoid the pg58
@@ScottUhlMusic Thanks a mill for answering this!! Just ordered the BLX24 SM58 after all and by what you’re saying, it has little to no ‘handling noise’ ? It’s meant to sound great as a mic I’ve heard, and I’m sure it sounds lovely!! :)
And you don’t need an XLR cable for that mic? If I’m correct, I appreciate your feedback and answers, so thank you! I’m glad I’ve chosen the SM58 over the PG58 over its ‘handling noise’ - I’m hoping the mic I’ve chosen really doesn’t have much handling noise after all! :)
@@maireadaine1635 All microphones have SOME handling noise. But the Sm58 is the industry standard for a reason. You do not need an XLR for the wireless mic. You will need a small one to go from the receiver unit into a mixer/speaker/etc. Enjoy the wireless!
@@ScottUhlMusic thank you! Will I need an XLR cable for the sm58 for the likes of the Roland cube street ex then? What’s the particular cable called?
this work with bluetooth?
No, Bluetooth is not good for transmitting live audio because of latency
I gave you only one thumbs up, but I wish UA-cam would let me give you 5. What an excellent, informative, and entertaining video! One question. How much delay is there from the time you press the power button until the microphone actually starts working?
