I have said it before and I will say it again, that green is beautiful. When that engine started OMG. Those of you who like your EV cars, try and beat that sound and the passion it gives to us petrol heads.
"But my EV does 0-3000mph in 0.05 seconds". Yes but it has no heart. Sure the party trick is cool for a little while but there's more to cars than just going from A to B. More often than not it's the journey we live for, not the speed. This is what cars should be. Appliances are for the kitchen.
I have driven some electric cars and I like them just fine for Monday to Friday. But yeah, nothing can replace a car like this. XJC V12 with a manual shift is a total unicorn where I come from. And a nicely tuned V4 is one of my favourite sounds in all of motorcycling.
And that sound ladies and gentlemen, is why we will never fall in love with an electric car! The sound of that engine stirs the soul! So looking forward to seeing the finished car out on the road… I can see this being another jewel in Harry’s automotive crown 👍

What a gorgeous car. I’m tempted to say they’re such an underrated classic, but when I see how much work is required to bring one up to a good standard, It does make me wince a bit! When it’s finished though it will be fantastic. I think I’d rather have one than a Ferrari 400.....
I think this generation of XJ is one of the best looking cars ever made. I have been looking at Series 3s for a while but you are right, you need to dump a ton of money to get them in a good shape.
I think this Jag is the most beautiful car I've ever seen. Perfect colour, superb restoration and that engine sounds like a Merlin! A true classic as far as I'm concerned.
Love the old V12 beast and am very glad it started up! Won't ever be able to afford it, but by god I'm enjoying other people having and driving this cars! Thumbs up big time! :)
Harry has single handedly moved the market on XJC’s - once someone completes a stunning restoration it encourages others to do the same. I can’t wait to see the completed car outside in the sun.
Harry I had one of these when current. Moved it on at 85k mi. The airline captain purchaser thought he had enough $$ to keep it fresh. It was my club show car and dd. Glad to see you and your marathon team yielding results. These are daunting projects. > > Jaguars fitted two screen keeper-retainers to the windscreen top edge. Evidently testing them at MIRA...this bodys' low pressure aero there at the screen created a vacuum, lifted it cleanly out! Mine was USA-spec, but I observe nothing at that point on your build. ICE 1 EV 0 What a glorious sound, I can imagine the smile on your face when you seen and more importantly heard that coming to life Harry. Congrats to all involved in getting it this far, true piece of automotive art right there.
You should have seen my wife, she wasn't watching, but was listening in the background whilst reading a book. The engine fired up and she turned and smiled and said ,"What was that?" That was a Jaguar V12. Please think how that sounds. She doesn't drive, has little interest in cars, apart from the Project 8, yet she liked it a lot!
I've always desperately wanted one of these. A friend of mine had a bright yellow 4.2L XJC that we smoked around in back in the 1980's. The one thing that really holds me back is the amount of money it takes to get one up to standard and keep it there. As they were so cheap in the past there are a lot of nice looking cars hiding all sorts of very expensive issues. I had a 4.2L Daimler Sovereign LWB which was horribly unreliable. When it went, it was superb - sublime, comfortable, light on its feet and a joy to drive. Trouble was, despite an extensive maintenance budget, it was forever throwing up issues and I never really trusted it. This XJC is stunning though - what a superb colour and with a manual 5.3L V12!!! Can't wait to see and hear it in action. Well done for saving it Harry.
Yes I agree about the sounds, but as far as the memories are concerned, I think a lot of the good ones were actually when the engine wasn’t running! Keep well buddy and have a merry Christmas 🎅🏼
What I love is that this car, its engine, styling, suspension and interior are from the creators of dream machines and racing cars, and you have a team of craftsmen now focusing on that shared vision, eradicating the ‘made in the 70s by BL’ hangover that blighted so many Jags. I look at this car and I want one. I’ve always wanted one. I don’t care about cost and practicality I just want one. I’d love Jaguar to get back to that emotional appeal in its cars.
I absolutely love this car. It's rare to see a classic modified that benefits from the modifications, but in this case the color and manual trans make this what the car should always have been. Fantastic.
The Green gets better every time you see it and 🔥 with that dark walnut dash! The V12 rubble at the end is fantastic - this car is gonna be very special when it’s complete Harry! 🙌🙌🙌
It's been a wonderful journey watching this car being revamped. Interesting to note it drove pretty well before, and a good lesson of what someone might get into once they start. A great result and thank you for sharing the story, I'm sure a lot of people will have enjoyed the ride as much as I have. Happy motoring Harry!
I can't get over that colour. I do love dark greens, especially on cars, especially, especially on Jags, being one of my favourite ever marques. But the paint on that XJ is something else! Fair play to you Harry, you couldn't have picked a nicer colour to suit your Jag if you tried. That car has always been amongst my favourite in your collection, as I've always wanted to sample a Jag V12,coupled to a manual gearbox. Now however, its going to be my favourite hands down, in fact I can't think of many other cars I'd rather own full stop. Absolutely stunning. I dread to think what this has all cost you, but whatever it is, i think its gonna be worth every penny.
Loving this resto series. I’d an old uncle who owned a succession of V12 Jags when I was a young lad. I still remember the incredible smell of the interior and leather and the way it seemed to float over the country roads as we flew along. Looking forward to seeing it finally finished but very glad I’m not footing the bill!!
What a lovely sound when it finally ran properly. No matter how long it takes to sort out all the niggles, this is such a beautiful, elegant and desirable motor vehicle that it has to be well worth the time (and money). Both in saloon and coupe form this model Jaguar has to be one of the most beautiful cars of all time. Sir William had such an impeccable eye for line and proportion.
This really is an utterly beautiful car! Re-building it from the bottom-up was a great idea, you’ve basically got a brand new XJ-C in 2021. Incredible.
Wow, the engine roar and it sounds mighty...love the combination of grunt and elegance that this car brings along and the colour is such a winner :). Almost forgot: love that you decided to keep the wheels, that s the authentic sporty style of the early 70s.
Very much enjoying this restoration series! - as many others also point out, the new colour you picked for the Jag is just gorgeous. It really transform it from "a bit too ordinary" to really high class. Awesome!
Must have been disappointing at first when it didn't start but as Tom said the ignition system system is the only part not replaced, I know it was working before but old electronic components do not like sitting with out being used, fantastic end to the video when it fired into life and sounded great. Love the colour, I don't think you will see many the same colour.
O Harry ! When she fired it brought tears to my eyes. I reckon I will hear her in Cirencester when she comes home to Burford. Pure eye and heart candy. Wish I still owned mine.
Oh. My. Word. That engine sounds absolutely outrageous! Excellent. I know it will be much more subtle when all the filters and pipework are fitted, but I suspect it will still sound phenomenal. Start-up sounded more than a bit like a Merlin spluttering into life.
I love the trick of bypassing the resistor to give the ignition system a full 12 volts for starting. My 1953 Jaguar Mark VII saloon had a button hidden on the dashboard to momentarily do the same thing. It really made a difference with cold starts. I don’t know if that was a factory spec installation. By running 9 volts most of the time the ignition points lasted much longer. Say a year vs 6 months..

That last bit brought back some memories. What a lovely sound. Progress is one thing but the "younger" generation will sadly never experience this for themselves.
