    The word these days is that they are cracking down on "permanent tourists", then again, I hear they stopped that because it was costing the country money. I'd love to live in Mexico, and you're right, looking online, it always seems impossible, even with a retirement visa, because I don't have enough income, only social security. I can't afford to hire a lawyer, not even a Mexican lawyer. All I can do is get there and try to do border runs. My friend lived there for 7 years on border runs, but she lives in Baja, which is a completely different story. Even at that, the American PayPal closed down her account because they said she was living in Mexico, and tied up all her money. It was horrible, and she almost got evicted from her rental in MX. Then the next time she tried to do a border run, they wouldn't let her back in. Remember, all her possessions were in MX, so she went to immigration there at the border, and was allowed a 14-day visa to go retrieve her possessions. So now she is living "illegally" in Mexico, because she can't leave or they won't let her back in. It's not as simple as you say it is.

      Thanks for sharing! You are correct in certain situations things can get very difficult. That is why one must integrate into Mexico further otherwise risk things like what happened with PayPal. Also the border run story sounds a bit fishy seems like there are some holes in that story because immigration will not deny you entry over whatever happened with PayPal or the rental she was in. Again who really knows what happened but even so you basically proved what I was saying as correct. Thanks again for sharing I hope you and your friend are able to find a solution to your problems

      Not sure if it still exist. But there is regularization program that will give you a temporary resident visa for 4 years. You need to have at least one entry between 2019 and 2021 If I remember correctly.

    Bottom line, to live in Mexico permanently you will need a good consistent income as long as you live there, even if you don't have residency.

    Hi Jose. Another great video. I laughed when you mentioned freedom and comfort because I feel very comfortable here, it's funny because Mexico is not my favourite country, Thailand is. I just never felt like I fit in in Thailand, whereas Mexico I fit right in straight away. You either love it here or you don't. I will work on getting my temp residency but for now I'll need to do one or two more exits. I don't want to leave, I'm quite happy to stay here forever.

    I have a question, Jose. My wife came to America from Mexico at 14. I got her legal and now she has dual residency. We have been married for 35 years, and she goes back almost every year. We have supported and helped her hard-working family not only survive, but strive - college, homes, etc. We are moving to Mexico in 3 years. How can I gain dual citizenship? I will never give up my American Citizenship!, just like she refused to give up her Mexican citizenship. LOL. Great video. Thanks.

      Great question! For you it is easy! All you need to do is provide proof to Mexican Immigration you guys are married and you will get your Temporary or Permanent Residency Visa which you must hold for a set amount of time and then you can apply and get your citizenship no problem! Also all your kids also have automatic Mexican Citizenship they just need to do the proper paperwork to get it. Good luck with everything!

    Hey Jose hola, let's say i find love and get married to a mexican citizen....how long do you have to be married to actually get residency? What if you fall out of love and get a divorce after 6 months....are you still a resident for life? Muchas Gracias

    • @JoseArteagaTravels
      @JoseArteagaTravels  6 місяців тому +1

      You can get Married today and go to immigration tomorrow and get your temporary residency. Once you have your residency you can divorce and you will have your residency. Not sure how it would work once you gotta renew it or go for Permanent residency. I got married, got my temp right away, waited 2 years, got my Permanent and about to go for my Mexican Citizenship sometime this year or the next at the latest. But fyi you need to be in Mexico at least 5 years before you can apply for Citizenship. Thats why I am only a Permanent resident. Yes I have been here over 5 years so I can go anytime, just haven't gotten around to it yet. Hope that helps answer your question.

Or in the case of really nasty inappropriate comments I just delete them. But yeah if you Troll the Trolls you see how quickly they get bored and walk away.
