    Thank you for this very detailed video about this process. As a side note for your viewers, you were quite lucky to be able to do your change of address so easily because normally, the Cambio de domicilio is another process altogether that will require spending a few hours at the INM. Forms, photocopies, and a new appointment via the website are required. Make sure you remember your old address exactly the way you had written it down in your original application otherwise the agent will ask you to re-write the cover letter until you get it right. It is a little frustrating especially if you lived in a village like I did where there was no actual street name and the building did not have any address or unit number...the landlord had made up an address and it took me 3 trials to finally get the address right! I am looking forward to your next video :)

    Great video very informative. Correct me if I misunderstood and I know it was a lot of information you provided and you may have forgotten, but did you say you were going to say why you couldn’t renew for 3 yrs? I was wondering if they are only allowing a year at a time for renewing? TIA!! 😊

    • @WhyNotNow
      @WhyNotNow  2 роки тому +1

      Hi Marilyn, Hope all is well. You are right, the video ran a bit long so just wanted to get the meat and potatoes for you all. We were just told we couldn't do the 3 years with the "economic solvency" by the upstairs/front desk agent (person who does a "pre-check" of the documents beforehand). That is when I explained I had already paid for 3 years at the bank since I heard otherwise, and when asked what I needed to do, was informed I would just need to return to the bank and have them reverse/ reprocess for the 1 year payment instead. This is the "short version" but you imagine the back & forth since additionally, I also had to update the cover letter to state 1 year. Still heard contradictory info after the fact which is why in the video, I mentioned that I'm still not sure if that is indeed the case. Will see when we renew again at the end if the year.

    • @victoriagagarina4262
      @victoriagagarina4262 Рік тому

      Seems like the agent was incompetent, many people renew for 3 years without any issues, also no need to fill that form of matrimonio or show any bank account. Actually your spouse might not even reside in Mexico and don't even have bank statements in English, but e.g. Arabic or Russian. I think in such cases it's better to come later and find another agent. Or even apply in another office (but then will have to refund the fees, which will be a headache)

    Oh my God. Paperwork is my cryptonyt. Paperwork in Spanish is another level. I qualify for dual citizenship being a child of two Mexican parents, but I would have to go through an agency that can take care of that. I can't move to Mexico yet, but one day. Haha. I'm sure this video will be very helpful for others though. :)

    Is it better to get a lawyer, to handle all of this? If the forms are all in Spanish. I don't read or speak Spanish. But I'm going down this summer. To obtain my residency. Are these forms for first time applying for residency?

    • @Vickiesix
      @Vickiesix 2 роки тому

      Yes absolutely. There are plenty of lawyers who specialize in helping with the process to make it quick & easy.

    • @WhyNotNow
      @WhyNotNow  2 роки тому +2

      You can choose to do whatever is easier for you Esther. As I stated in the video, for those who need additional assistance, there are people who work in this area - "tramite offices" (not lawyers). A lawyer is absolutely not necessary for this process in my opinion, but for those who prefer to use one, I don't doubt there are plenty willing to take on this task for a fee. I also stated in the video that this is the renewal process but that I added links to my part video on the step-by-step process on how to obtain your residency (and yes, petty much same forms but there are more steps given it is the first time= initial application). I have added the links below for you as well to those videos (both videos must be watched in order to understand the full two-step mandatory process).

      They are pretty much everywhere; they specialize in assisting with the immigration paperwork. For example, there are several tramite businesses in the area where the INM (immigration office) is located. They pretty much fill out/ prepare the application, documents I showed you how to complete in my video for a fee.

      Mexico does tax residents on worldwide income (such as the U.S.). There is a lot if information online because there isn't a simple answer; we recommend you speak to a tax professional about your personal situation. Here is a general article (one of many) that provides some info but always do your own research as we always tell you all. 😉 www.escapeartist.com/blog/taxation-of-expats-living-in-mexico/

      Hi Diane, When we went through the process, we just waited for them to tell us when to come in (via email) after we had registered online (via the INM website as discussed in Part 2 of this video). There have been a number of changes to the process (and other policies) since then. They have a newly updated website and it seems that is where you would go to make your appointment. Go to the INM (immigration Mexico) website where you should be able to locate the address, and phone number of the INM office in the city you plan on going to (there are multiple listed on the site and you will have to see where there is availability). This is also a good starting point as you can contact the INM office in the city you plan to go to - each may do things differently. Here is the link to the INM website in Mexico; you will have to navigate to find what you are looking for (tramites/ identidad passaporte y migracion is the starting point) www.gob.mx/.
