Thank you Jose. I really appreciate it
I moved to Mexico for my 70th birthday and have loved it. I have lived in the highlands, 2 beach locations and now in Puebla. Married a Mexican national on my 75th birthday, I will never move back to the USA. Happy with my life here.
Thanks for sharing! Viva Mexico!
I am very please to hear you are happy. I wish you the best with your lucky husband
If you get homesick, go get Burger King! That whopper will make you want another taco
Hahaha well said! You wont be homesick for long, just plain sick 😅
If you ask them to make it fresh of the grill, then it's pretty tasty. Otherwise sitting in a steamer for a few hours ⏰🤕. But hey jose when are they bringing an in n out burger down there. McDonald's had an interesting breakfast sandwich with choice of meat , egg souflet with diced Chiles and beans.
Anyone know how in n out can start delivering the burgers please comment here? They want to deliver fresh, that is reason for not delivering now currently. So, food must be delivered within 20 minutes after being made.
😂😂😂
The meat is not real meat. There's rumors it's human meat.
The first year that I lived in Mexico, it was very rural. No toilets and it was a mile walk down the mountain for water. Every morning I had to make 4 trips just to get water for a bath. It was actually the best year of my life. Then I met my wife in Guadalajara and she vetoed the rural life.
Jaja thats awesome brother! Thanks for sharing! Viva our Mexican wives!
As an American that moved to Mexico, I have found it very easy to make friends. In fact, the first time someone asked me to stop by for dinner they apologized for only having pumpkin soup and quesadillas for dinner. I thought the soup was excellent. In about 3 months, I noticed that my name changed by all the people greeting me on the streets. Once I was just plain old Felipe, life got real nice.
Muchas gracias en compartir Felipe!
I will be your friend as well
In which state? My reason to move to Mexico is actually to be surrounded with more "warm" people!
@@franciscomaldonado7813 the state of Jalisco, but I live in the Guadalajara metro area.
I didn't have much Friends in the states and don't have many now but I am married now.
Viva la Mexico!🇲🇽
Heading down to Puerto Vallarta next Saturday to get my residence!🎉🥳
Tired of the train wreck happening in 🇨🇦
Congratulations! Viva Mexico! Safe travels!
That's my 2025 plan! Gracias from Texas 👍
Good luck with everything!
I was born and raised and still live in Jamaica. If I can live and survive in Jamaica, I definitely can survive in Mexico. I want to move to Mexico because of its healthcare system, fruits, and vegetables all year round, historic buildings, so many activities for a Preteeen, my second favorite language is Spanish. So relocating to Mexico whether good or bad is the goal for me.
That is awesome! If you were born and raised in Jamaica then Mexico should be a cake walk especially if you speak Spanish! Thanks for sharing! Saludos!
We were looking for a more affordable place to retire. We looked at small towns in the US. But, we never found “the one”.
Then we started thinking internationally and Mexico was the natural choice because we traveled there for vacations throughout our marriage.
We weren’t resort rats, we had been to 4 different states in Mexico.
There are countries that are cheaper than Mexico.
But, we loved the Mexican culture and the beauty of the country.
A person either “gets it” or they don’t. It’s definitely not for everyone.
By the way, my husband is Italian and from Brooklyn.
I didn’t know if he’d be able to slow down. Honestly, I thought it would be impossible.
But, he’s absolutely loving it.
Oh, and we were sick to death of US politics. Toxic environment. Lots of anger and not safe for kids. We’re old enough to know that might not change in our lifetime.
Thank you so much for sharing! Viva Mexico!
Love your story Jose, I am thinking of heading back to my beautiful Mexico. I am run down by the American lifestyle. Thanks for posting. 👍✌
Thanks brother! Hope you get to make it back home soon.
OMG!🤣🤣 you really got my attention when you talked about all the “Karens” back in the US. Being black and lgbtq I dealt with so many of those nosy busybodies that they used to drive me crazy with their micro aggressions! Like you said, here in Mexico people mind their own business and aren’t concerned about you so long as you aren’t causing problems. This was one of the freedoms I came here for and left the US to find! Thank goodness for Mexico! Thank you for your frank and honest videos!
Thanks for sharing! Mexico is not for everyone! Thank goodness for that! Viva Mexico!
@@JoseArteagaTravels yes, I’m so happy it’s not good for everyone! 😉
Thanks for making this video. I had to rethink my reasons for considering a move to Mexico.
Glad it was helpful!
You didn’t have it easy I saw the videos years ago when you got your first apartment. You were grateful. Not many people fon US could live like you going down with very little. You didn’t have parents finance you over here. You work hard. Thanks for your videos over the years.
Thank you so much for the kind words. You are right it sure wasn't easy but compared to the things I've had to live through in my past it was a cake walk. It's not for everyone but I think there are many people out there like me in one shape form or another and I'm just trying to show people they too can find their happiness far far away from the madness they have to live daily. Saludos brother!
Shout out from Alabama 😊. Mexico is really wonderful but I do love my state of Alabama!
I totally agree I am a southern boy at heart and if I had no choice but to live in the USA I would be in the Deep South somewhere.....
@@gustavoperez5480 We have many Mexicans living in AL so I believe they must be treated fairly well. Sorry if you've had a bad experience.
The first time I went to Mexico, I absolutely loved it there. Now, I have friends in different parts of Mexico and an incredible girlfriend. It won't be the first time that I transitioned to another country either. There are going to be challenges, but there are challenges no matter where you are.
Amen to that brother! Thanks for sharing!
@@JoseArteagaTravels It's single digits now till I kick off on this big adventure. I'm excited and I'm nervous. But, I'm not alone either. I have a whole family who will be looking out for me. It's not as frightening when you know you know you have that support behind you. This the profound love of the mexican people. You become part of their family.
Sounds like you are Winning
Arriving the 21st. I'm retired at 58. As long as I keep telling myself to slow down I should be okay. The RAT RACE is over. Time to chillax and take my time. Thank you for another encouraging video
No worries once you get to Mexico you will naturally start to slow down just to keep pace with everyone else 😅 Trust me I used to always be 15 minutes early to everything back in the states.... now if i show up 2 hours late i'm considered early lol
Nice! Felicidad's!!
I retired at 62, just 2 months ago. I’ve been in Mexico just over a month.
Just in the last few days I’ve felt myself start to slow down and enjoy.
I had a very simply Sunday down at the malecon people watching. Then had lunch at a mom and pop restaurant.
When I was driving home it hit me that this is probably the best time of my entire life.
I know i would love it! Love the heat and the food, ocean, got to learn Spanish really good, i want to retire there! ❤❤
Thats awesome! You can do it!
Let’s go together…
Good to hear your take on this important issue.
Glad to hear you enjoyed the video!
Yeah have an acquaintance who gets really frustrated at how slow or unreliable services are like getting things done. She tried to set up an Amazon return pickup from her home and it was the most trying situation to get someone to follow through.
Mexico is not for everyone. I used to get frustrated by things like that as well only to now fully embrace it and know this is one of the main reasons I get to enjoy so much freedom here
Yeah I moved to CDMX a year ago and have never used Amazon or Mercado Libre or whatever here. It's quite liberating actually once you wean yourself off of it you realize you don't need 90% of that crap anyways.
This is a topic that nobody else is really discussing to this degree! THANK YOU! Even though I have lived in Mexico for months on end and traveled through the country, there are still things that nobody really wants to talk about... some personalities just do NOT do very well when they are in a new environment. Very well done Jose!
Thanks for the kind words! So happy to hear so many people appreciating these topics! Saludos Amigo!
No Karens in Mexico? Sold!❤
Never met one there, literally every woman I’ve came across in Mexico is so sweet and kind to everyone ❤
Most Karens stay at home and battle you through Facebook posts lol
Jose always on point 💯
Thanks!
Great insights Jose, thanks
Thank you! Glad you liked it!
Moving to Mexico is certainly not "the latest and greatest" people have been moving there for generations. I like your video, you definitely speak from your own, very specific perspective. Mexico can be for anyone who understands you are in a different country, with A DIFFERENT CULTURE, different social rules of engagement and yes, different laws. If you move to Mexico expecting things to work just as they did at home, then you are certainly in for a surprise. Thanks for a cool video.
Well said! Glad you enjoyed the video!
Thank you for loving my county so much, I currently live in California and I just retired a year ago and I’m seriously thinking of going back to Guanajuato that’s where I was born.
I love it here because it loves me so much! Btw if you're thinking about moving back perhaps you should check this video out ua-cam.com/video/sBI4VusH58s/v-deo.html Viva Mexico! Saludos amigo!
Agreed. It is NOT for everyone. It's a huge adjustment. If you have never lived in a foreign country before and you can't speak Spanish and are not willing to immerse yourself in the culture, it's not for you. Forget about it just being a lower cost of living.... a lot of people cannot adjust. It's a revolving door for a lot of gringos with no experience living in latin america.
Very well said! Thanks for sharing!
You know your stuff 👍👍 You cover many topics thoroughly . And you are real. Genuine. Your presentations are full of experience. Thanks amigo
I appreciate that! Glad you enjoyed the content!

Another great video. Thanks

Great Video Good Analogies❤ really makes you think
I appreciate that! Glad you enjoyed it!
So far you are the only vlogger I've watched who addressed the high-school/cliqueish culture in "Expat enclaves". I encountered this during an exporatory trip to several recommended places for expats in Panama. Some towns were more notorious than others for being filled with gossips in sheeps clothing; one of them I experienced firsthand in the most popular town of Boquete - didn't realize it but I'd accidently gone with some other travelers to a place that is nicknamed "the KK cafe" where we were eavesdropped on then our conversation reported and distored in a facebook group. It was as childish as it was pathetic. Thank you for the honest drive arounds - makes me miss Mexico so much
Oh wow what an interesting story! Yes it seems like those expat enclaves all around the world are the most dangerous part about traveling these days! 😅
I’ve watched you go from barely making it till now. Happy for you bro. You wee the first video I watched about Merida and now I’m here
Thanks brother!
Great vid! This is exactly how I feel
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed!
The making friends thing is my only real concern. Not because I get lonely or anything, but more what the hell do I do if I slip in the tub and break my leg or have a stroke or something. I don't expect my sister to fly down and look after me. I guess that's kind of self centered to only want friends in case something happens to me but really that's just me. I have lots of friends here but they know what I'm like and they have their own lives to lead so we mostly just text each other and stuff. I don't hate people, I just like it better when they're not around.
You touch on very real concerns many people have. The beautiful thing about Mexico is that if you come out here and live with the people then you will soon see how many friends you just make by accident and who will actually care for you if something happens. I totally understand how that is a foreign concept for many people until they experience life out here. Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts.
Thanks again for another clear breakdown of what ought to be basic, foundational facts, circumstances of what it takes to make a major life decisions & practical " street smarts", socio - economic considerations & LIFESTYLE CHOICES that are not necessarily obvious at first blush & perhaps taken for granted , perhaps people's entire lives until a major crisis(s) occur!
Many make decisions due to crisis & therefore impulsively , out of desperation & not rationally, weighing all considerations.
You lead folks make their own informed opinion so they can figure out where they stand in life & what things can and cannot be compromised & then find a middle ground or compromise that suits them! You continually offer an unbiased point of view that combine the " heart" factor as well as the cold shots (hot)😂 reality that people need to hear!
Thank you so much for the kind words my brother. It makes me really happy my videos, my ramblings can make such a huge difference in other peoples lives. I know many people might not want to hear Mexico is not for them, but i would rather be the bearer of bad news and reality over them making a monster decision they will only regret soon after. Saludos mi Amigo!
When I'm stressed I can watch one of your videos, think of Mexico and immediately feel better, Thanks again mi amigo for what you do.
Glad I can help make you feel a bit better!
Thank you Jose for all valuable feedback, I'm seriously considering moving to Mexico before 2023 end. I'll keep on watching your videos for more feedback. Thx!
Awesome! Glad to hear the videos have been so helpful!
Shout out Jose it’s a really really great video!!!❤
Muchas gracias!
I was born in Mexico l but grew up illegally in Los Angeles. I’m now in my 30s, single no kids, work for myself and a citizen. After exploring Mexico more I find myself not knowing what I’m still doing in LA. I hate pretty much everything about living here and when I go to Mexico I can breathe in deeply. All the logistics about moving to Mexico excite me more than they scare me. Walking outside in LA to the store is scarier at this point haha. Merida is awesome btw, I fell in love with holbox and actually… my last trip there I think really sealed the deal for me! Thanks for the vid!
That is super awesome! Thanks for sharing! Hope you make it to Mexico soon! Saludos! Viva Mexico!
You are the very best at informing us about the move to Mexico thank you
Thank you! Glad the information is so helpful!
The navy could give me the opportunity to travel word and see different cultures, and people and make my decision on where I want to live!
That is correct! In fact immigrants/expats who have previously served in the military are the ones that are the most prepared to live outside of the USA and the ones who assimilate the best. Good luck to you!
Great info. 5 years experience. Thanks bro
Glad it was helpful!
For me. If/When I move to Mexico. I would come to help contribute to their country with my ideas and solutions. I have no problems to learn Spanish and I am laid back, friendly and easy to get on with. I love to learn new things and respect other cultures. I am genuine, positive and supportive and I don't judge anyone. Because of me being open minded. I wouldn't mind if my future wife is Mexican and took the chance to being part of my life. It's about happiness and living a dream life we both would love.
Thanks for sharing!
Definitely more freedom in Mexico.
The US has fallen hard in that regard.
I hope they keep their freedom. I saw a story where where somebody’s pet tiger got away and was walking the streets, and he got his leash and walked him back home.
No permits needed for any kind of pets. 😂😂😂
I love that.
Viva Mexico! Thanks for sharing!
Hi José. Thank you so much for sharing. Saludos desde Guadalajara Jalisco México
Anytime brother! Saludos!
I think too many Americans want to move to Mexico but live as Americans in America, then. get pissed when the Mexican culture doesn't cater to them. I can't wait to move to Mexico to learn a new culture and become part of it. Yeah, I'm sick of the USA for a multitude of reasons. That's a big part of it, but I'm also excited about a new adventure.
Thanks for sharing!
You are one of the few vloggers that is trying to paint a realistic picture of the hard truth about living in a different country. It is one thing to fantasize about living somewhere else or spending some of the year there, but to actually do it and last, is quite another. I have lived in Latin America for 9 years and I was well prepared for the change mostly because I was very diligent and realistic about what I was doing. The language is a huge hurdle that most people can not overcome. I knew a guy who moved from Georgia and after 3 years he told me he was tired of Spanish. Depending on the source, as many as 80% do not last 2 years on the high end and at least 50% on the low end. What I have noticed is anyone who can last 5 years will most likely stay. The best thing someone can do is come at least 3 times, at different times of the year, for different lengths of time, and try to live like the locals. If after a few trips, and serious study of the cons, then you will increase your odds of success.
Very well said! Yes the longer I am here the more I realize I am not going anywhere! Also the longer I am here the more I see "expats" just not be able to make it out here and end up going back home with their tails between their legs. Thank you for sharing!
Thanks!
No problem! Muchas Gracias Amigo!
I am a newer sub to your channel, I had first began to consider the idea of moving to Mexico through some dialogues I’ve had with others having traveled there for one reason or another and tie in with my own genealogy research work, but I am not making this post in regards to genealogy research I’m doing necessarily.
I’ve enjoyed your video content and the variety that you cover relating to potential expats selecting Mexico as their new home. I currently reside in Washington Heights in NYC which is currently a more Dominican American community so I speak the language but I’ve also taken it in classroom settings earlier on in junior high and high school. I still have years ahead of me to work career wise, which is the main challenge of self sustainability in a move to Mexico. So far I am looking into Merida because of the content I’ve seen from various UA-cam influencers on Merida and Rosarita/Tijuana as an alternative to Merida. Still am not in a place where I Can up and move because I need to see a few other things resolved in terms of career options to work remote, would be great if my current employer allowed me to work remote from Mexico since I have been working remote now for multiple years already.
Thank you for your content and your transparency
Glad the videos have been so helpful! Thanks for sharing!
I moved 10 minutes into Mexico by the beach just to get a sample of it. You can see San Diego from the window. I'm black and it has been ok so far. It's a lower cost of living but it's a different mentality. Not as organized or structured but a simpler way of life.
That's awesome! Thanks for sharing!

Me and my wife decided last year that we are moving to Mexico, things up here in Canada have really taken a turn for the worse and being indoors because of freezing weather for 6 months every year is just taking a toll on my mental health. July 13th we will be leaving for Mazatlan. Thanks for making this video because it was very reassuring to hear. I am moving because of my freedoms being deteriorated rapidly in my home country, its not the place I grew up in, its such a shame lol

Jose, Thank you for all your information. Can you tell me how to get good short term rentals in Mexico like 2-6 weeks. Thank you. Keep up the good work.
Try Airbnb, ask in the Facebook Groups, and also hotels are another amazing option.
Im here now hehe love going to the end of the block and getting my tacos pastor couple times a week for 5 bucks and my laundry done for $5 once a week and I walk to the gym which takes me about 10 minutes, the only thing I would say is as I'm writing as this guy is ringing that damn bell in the street and I have another guy shouting about his taco truck and then the trash truck. It's pretty loud here. I think that's just a fact of life if you're going to live in Mexico
It's funny after awhile you get used to the noise and when you travel outside of Mexico you quickly miss the noise..... 😅 Thanks for sharing!
I just moved here a week ago! I love it here!!!

Hola Jose, Are there any cities that you can suggest for people with mobility issues and use a light-weight and easy-travel wheelchair? I am a Spanish and ESL teacher who lives in Florida and I want to move this family member with me in the near future. I lived in Spain and Costa Rica, and have been to Mexico several times and love it there, and I am not Latina but loved studying Spanish (majored in it in college) along with studying a few other languages. Thank you for any input from you or from others on here. Mil gracias!
Hi there! I honestly don't know many areas of Mexico that well. I know the streets and infrastructure are not the best in many places so I don't want to just take a shot in the dark. My suggestion to you is to go into the various expat groups in Mexico and asking those people who live in those areas for more detailed information. Sorry I couldn't be much help!
I bought in a gated community because even though I am originally from mexico, after living in the states all my adult life I jist can’t take the random noise of a regular neighborhood.
Thanks for sharing!
I could go on and on. But you don't gotta worry about that.

Would you consider doing a lesson on bargaining for gringos, please?💰🇲🇽
Simple get yourself a Mexican who speaks Spanish to represent you when searching for a rental
Learn Spanish
Great show Jose it was much much easier for you the change to Merida because you didn't carry luggage as in relationship?
my question to you is if you were financially good to the point where you didn't have to work would you do it over choosing Merida ??
If I was rich enough where I didnt need to worry about money I would still most likely make this my home base and I would be traveling around the world right now with my wife. But I have traveled a lot and that is not the lifestyle I want. Meaning I want to live in peace and harmony like I do here, and then be able to travel from time to time, but always looking forward to returning home. Hope that makes sense.
@@JoseArteagaTravels Yes well stated

Waz up Jose,
I have questions. Have you and your wife bought a home in Merida if so what areas of Merida do you recommend to purchase a home. If you have a home do they offer H/O insurance? Are the beaches enjoyable to swim in or are they too hot? If you had to move from Merida what other states in Mexico would you consider living in? Thanks I'm advance.
I have not bought a home I dont have that kind of money. As for the other questions I answer them all in my videos
Jose your an inspiration. You had some advantages of coming here. You speak Spanish. You didnt have a silver spoon from the USA. In my midwestern english only white guy experience Ive learned some Spanish have the love of my life helping me. She is Mexican speaks spanish. We pretty much live ony social security. I was in Mexico city for 3 weeks a few months ago and the biggest issue I experienced was lack of Asian food and different Mexican food.
As someone that grew up in LA I had Mexican food from every region and great Asian food of all types. Shortly after I got back home I ate a bowl of Pho and a torta ahogada and they were incredible.
Definitely a first world problem but had to share my experience (: rest of my CDMX trip was great 😃

Hi Jose, can you do a video on Temporary visa by Family unity. Im in America abd want to start the process in California, not Mexico.

Lucky for you I already made a video on it. Now it will depend on your exact situation which will be easier to do it in the US or in Mexico but in this video I go into more detail ua-cam.com/users/livesDRVo5le3iQ?feature=share
Dual citizen recently retired. Even I cannot live in my hometown in Mexico for extended periods of time. So I spend a few weeks there, travel to central Mexico cities that I always want to visit when I lived there 45 years ago and I return to the US for a few months. Get tired of the woke bs that’s going on with liberals and democrats and go back to Mexico. You are right in so many points you covered on this video. Only concern with Mexico is the lack of security in many areas of the country.

For those moving to Mexico , bring someting , NO JUST MONEY , bring an open mind and ADD to the experience, do not take away from it because “I want to feel like in the US” we do not need that, the “American way of life “ contradicts with me Mexican way of life , do not try to change the culture or the traditions , that is what makes Mexico what it is , for that you can go somewhere else , the saying goes “ WHEN IN ROME , DO AS THE ROMANS “ ☝🏼
That is awesome! Very well said! Thank you so much for sharing!

What is the name of the neighborhood you are driving through?
It was mostly El Centro and the Eastern portion of the city. I don't really have the exact locations

Very real concerns. Hope you get to find a solution soon!

I haven't but i have tones of friends and family who are constantly keeping me updated. My friend in the Minnesota area just moved into a new apartment and is pay just a little under 3,000 USD a month! 10x what I pay for a whole house here in Mexico!

You can still find them. They are just in places most Americans do not want to live in. Take a look yourself in certain rural areas in the USA or in very dangerous neighborhoods in major US cities
Jose I plan on going to the gym Monday to lose weight! I want to lose weight so I can join the navy before I leave the United States for good 😊
Awesome! Smart choice! You can also travel the world with the Navy!
Yes, I can handle the truth. I lived through it in Mexico State "Tlanepantla de Baz, Edo. De México" it was rough; however, it will get much better now that MORENA through the new governor, Delfina Gómez takes office "the governor's house". Imagine: México State with minimum or no corruption "it takes time to get rid of corruption". Thus, most citizens down there and throughout México will be able to develop the country to its maximum potential. Plus "The Bucareli Treaty will be over very soon" thus México will be able to produce and develop it's different industries to their full potential. Keep in mind that México was producing rockets in the 60's and has its own aero-espacial "The equivalent of NASA in the US" which was funded on 7/31/2010.

I miss the culture, but spoiled by some of the benefits of USA. If things went bad for me, I'd return to the Latin America in a minute, land of my childhood.
Mexico is a legit reset destination. Beautiful country, and I see a good things happening for their economy.
Lol, "whatever time" is me.😂 I had a difficult transition to the states because I am on southern latitude time. State-side time gives me IBS.
Viva Mexico! Thanks for sharing!
I have not had a tribe from the age of 14. That was 35 years ago. Im my own tribe
That's awesome! Lone Wolf! Saludos!

Maybe this isn’t the right reason but I’m a veteran who has an online business that I plan on keeping. I’m working on Spanish and I’d like to buy some property and run my business. Hopefully, I can find a wife so I can start a family.
Good luck to you! Thanks for sharing!
If we go to Mexico will you give us a tour we can pay you for your time
I don't really do tours but if you are truly interested then please e-mail me and I will give you my in person consulting rates and we can coordinate something if it is something you would be interested in.
NC is another country if you are coming from NYC… lol. I want a beach life and warm weather. Florida is no longer affordable to retire.
I totally agree with you. More bang for your buck out here

Awesome! Saludos Amigo!
Being a Latino and knowing Spanish is a huge advantage. Gringos are not used to the culture and their Spanish is usually not that great. However you do feel the freedom in Mexico versus the USA.
Thanks for sharing!
Thinking of moving to Mexico being the "next hip thing" LOL... I feel sorry for people one coming here ONLY for the exchange rate.
That's right! Thanks for sharing!
How about peace of mind. Priceless. USA is a big hustle.
Thanks for sharing!
@@JoseArteagaTravels Gracias Poe todovio!
I don’t know how to get the Spanish on the phone, so it recognizes when I speak instead of coming out all mumbled
Wish i had done sooner. Now mx wants proof of a constant 286,000dollars in the bank or 7,200 pension income to get residency. It's tightening that's for sure. I gotta dig deeper n see. Times a changing🤔
There are tons of ways to get residency without meeting those requirements
@@JoseArteagaTravels I'm sure there is. I just can't see getting married or other to get that residency. Idk.
@@oceanside88 You can just go to another consulate. Every consulate is different. Some have a very minimal requirement almost anyone can meet. Do some more research and you will be pleasantly surprised
@@JoseArteagaTravels Thank you. Gracias!
