It's a song about how jealousy can drive a man crazy and see things that aren't there. I love these guys. “When you were young” is one of my favorite songs ever. It hits me every time because it’s like the story of my heart I swear. I grew up in such shit. Group homes. Chaos. Hopping from place to place. And I daydreamed about getting married and falling in love and I guess basically being rescued from this world I lived in. All my friends were having kids- I’m talking 13 yrs old, 14,15, l6. By 21 I was the only without a kid. Because I was the only who was out their fucking. Excuse my language but I feel weird speaking properly about something so real. I dunno why. I ended up stripping and escorting so I’m not trying to act like I’m high and mighty. But that was after I gave up and realized it’s not real. No such thing as a happy ending. Which is why I love that fucking song. I made sure I didn’t sleep around, not even with my little boyfriends as a teen. Nope. I wanted to wait. I wanted to fall in love. I wanted a fairy tale. And then I thought I had found it. I thought it was going to be my fairy tale. I was so in love. Y’all remember the first time you really truly fell in love. I mean. It was amazing. We were each other’s world. And he loved me so much. He really did. We’d run off and just camp out for weeks, like legit just out there, in the middle of nowhere, tends and his truck full of everything you could ever need. He was like a boy scout on steroids with the amount of shit he knew and had lol he was amazing. But he still cheated and got my best friend pregnant 2 and a half years into our relationship. We were “engaged” we just didn’t have rings. Not real ones. We had something else I won’t go into. He’s a good dude. He had his struggle in childhood. His parents fucked him up and made it difficult for him to know who he is or wants to be. He’s amazing and I’ll always love him and I don’t blame him. I really don’t. But fuck my world shattered. He broke my heart. And the biggest lesson of all was it’s just not real. None of it. None of the bullshit I dreamed about is real and people like me just don’t get those kind of fairy tales. That song was my anthem from the first time I heard it. It’s not even my style. I gotta keep it a buck. Not my style. I like all music, 90’s hip hop is my life. Can’t help it. From AZ to mobb deep to nas to Raekwon (I was like 5 years old listening to that purple tape every day, ended up making mt own copy a few years later and painting that shit purple lol). And I love my rock music, I love all music. But this was definitely not the type to usually do it for me. But fuck that song is golden and speaks truth. Maybe not for everyone else. Maybe no one else. Maybe I’m the only one who gets it like that. But if anyone reading this relates at all to what I shared than you should listen to that song. It’s epic
I totally get you on the meaning of when you were young. To me the song is like “no, you’re not going to find some perfect beautiful fairytale love and there is no Prince Charming.” Life is so much darker and more complicated than movies and music make it out to be, but that song says point blank you’re never going to find what you see in the movies - you’ll find someone you love and they’ll be hopelessly flawed and your heart will break for them and it’ll be beautiful and tragic and hopeful and confusing all at the same time. that’s how love works in the real world. Hope you’re doing well.
Yeah, this song is about his own self doubts and jealously. Like he said "it's all in my head but she's touching his chest now..." he's imagining this girl he just got with, with someone else. He just got with this girl and he is already worried about her leaving for someone better
I’d love to see you react to more of The Killers Classics like Somebody Told Me, Midnight Show, All these Things I’ve done… honestly any song from the Hot Fuss album is a banger. Some of their more contemporary stuff like Runaways and The Man are really good too. Keep up the good reactions 🤙🏻
'Lyrically, "Mr. Brightside" depicts a true story of Flowers' jealousy and paranoia when he walked into a bar in Las Vegas and found his girlfriend cheating on him. "I was asleep and I knew something was wrong," he said. "I have these instincts. I went to the Crown and Anchor, a bar in Vegas, and my girlfriend was there with another guy."' en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mr._Brightside
Yes! One of my favorite songs by one of my absolute favorite bands! Would totally be down with you reacting to more Killers! And yeah, the song is about how jealousy can drive you crazy, either the girl he likes is with another guy not him and he hates it, or his girl is cheating on him with another guy, which may not even be happening because "it's all in my head but..." Regardless, the thoughts of what they're doing together or that his girl might do things with someone else are driving him nuts, she's touching the other guys chest, not him, the other guy gets to take off her dress, not him, and so on. The style is indie/alternative/dance rock.

Cool fact, the Michigan Football Team plays this song during their home games. It’s really cool to see it in person. The whole stadium sings it at once. There’s a lot of videos on it.
The story is basically he's jealous, and all the things he's thinking of is happening in his head, like a jealous person who invents all kinds of scenarios because of their fear.
The first game in the Big House I got to go to was Michigan V OSU this year. This song has been stuck in my head since hearing so many people singing it. GO BLUE!
Watching these reaction videos to old banger songs make me realise just how important music videos are when listening to a song for the first time, at face value this song could be a jumble of confusion but you can kinda get a base idea. Couple the lyrics with the original video and the picture becomes a lot more clearer.
If you ever go to the UK or Europe, this is basically the national anthem for the club scene. Everyone knows all the lyrics and you can make some good friends by pumping this at 1am while walking/driving home.
This song is so famous here in the UK, if it comes on anywhere, a pub, bar, club, everyone knows it, its like a rite of passage here to learn the lyrics to this song
Great song from a band I have a lot of nostalgic love for, I hope to see you do some more from this band in the future, in particular I'd like to hear you react to "When You Were Young", "Read My Mind", "Human" and my personal favourite "Somebody Told Me".
Awesome moment with the bird flying in the background while the song says "let me go." Free production value right there! Haha. Great video as always my friend.
I love this song. My interpretation of it is that it’s not written from one specific perspective at a specific point in time, it’s actually a collective of various feelings over a span of time where the writer was dealing with a cheater. The verse sounds like the whole thing started with a kiss (seeing his girlfriend kissing somebody else) which has led to him having anxiety. The pre-chorus is all in his head from the anxiety and doubt. He’s imagining the things they probably did together, and the thought of it is killing him. The “Mr. Bright side” part is essentially him telling himself that their breakup is for the best and that things will get better. Hes asking for his eyes to be opened to his future/destiny because he’s trying to look on the bright side. Maybe he can’t see anything other than the thoughts of what she could have done with this other man or maybe he already is looking at the bright side. It’s vague. The line “open up my eager eyes” sounds like he’s saying that he can’t see the bright side, but he believes that it’s got to be there. Destiny is calling him. But point is it was probably written over the course of him finding out about his girlfriend cheating on him (the initial moment) then the anxiety about all her alibis. He writes about his feelings during the break up and after the break up when he’s “been doing just fine” as well.
I’ve been addicted to this song for months! I’m excited to see your reaction! Edit: The song is about a man feeling jealous after seeing the woman he has feelings for kissing another man, and proceeds to think about the things she is doing with the other man.
Picture the scene it’s New Years in the boozer everyone’s getting hammered and this song comes on. It gets to the chorus and everyone belts it out JEALOUSY! At the the top of there voice
It's literally killing my brain how many people are either completely getting what the song means lyrically, or are making assumptions without knowing the story behind it. This song is literally autobiographical. Brandon Flowers was convinced his girlfriend was cheating on him, she denied it and called him crazy, which only ramped up his paranoia and jealousy over the idea (which is him speaking about the moment where she's smoking and the guy takes off her dress in the song, because that much was all in his head and what was convincing him). This was all until he walked into a bar and saw her with another man and it was confirmed and his world came crashing down. The title "Mr. Brightside" is referring to him trying to convince himself that he's wrong and trying to see the bright side and not believe it's true. So, there you go, FWIW. As for the genre? The Killers are generally considered Alternative Rock.
I think the story goes the lead singer wrote the song when he walked into a bar and found his gf at the time flirting with another guy. The relationship, of course, dissipated. Originally, the song wasn’t very good so it got shelved until they got a deal and went to record their first album. Since other members had been added to the band they decided to revamp it for the album. Brandon Flowers, who wrote the song, was still heartbroken over the girl and they managed to capture that energy of hurt and betrayal into the song. Fun fact: This song is still in the charts in the UK I believe… nearly 20 years after it’s release. But if you listen to it, it still sounds fresh all these years later. The mark of a great song 🤷♀️
*reading the title of this video* Choose your next move wisely. This song is legendary, released in 2003, but still regularly shows up in the UK singles charts.

It’s epic
I'm so sorry because you wrote such a heart felt comment that nobody's gonna read.
@@gabrielz6849 right? Maybe a few of us
I read the whole thing
I totally get you on the meaning of when you were young. To me the song is like “no, you’re not going to find some perfect beautiful fairytale love and there is no Prince Charming.” Life is so much darker and more complicated than movies and music make it out to be, but that song says point blank you’re never going to find what you see in the movies - you’ll find someone you love and they’ll be hopelessly flawed and your heart will break for them and it’ll be beautiful and tragic and hopeful and confusing all at the same time. that’s how love works in the real world. Hope you’re doing well.
I forgot that it is an amazing comment and is worth read.
All about letting the one you love fall in love with someone else and accepting it
Same it sucks
@jonn I keep listening to songs about it and me makes me put on on some happy music cause I’m tired of crying 🙏
@@davidsollis6342 spread love 💜🙏
Yeah, this song is about his own self doubts and jealously. Like he said "it's all in my head but she's touching his chest now..." he's imagining this girl he just got with, with someone else. He just got with this girl and he is already worried about her leaving for someone better
I’d love to see you react to more of The Killers
Classics like Somebody Told Me, Midnight Show, All these Things I’ve done… honestly any song from the Hot Fuss album is a banger. Some of their more contemporary stuff like Runaways and The Man are really good too. Keep up the good reactions 🤙🏻
I’ve always loved this song

I’m one of ur biggest fans from the uk I got so gassed to see u react to this 😂 I love u man
This song was in the uk charts for five years straight. This was club banger!!
Looked up mr brightside reaction an you popped up didn’t expect to see this 💀 he reacts to it all
Exact same bro😂

There’s a lot of videos on it.
go blue
Just watched them play it as they just beat Ohio state for the 3rd straight year! They got a good chance to win it all this year!
Love your content man, long time watcher. Hope you're doin' well
My favorite song of all time. Thanks, bro.
this song is massive in Australia everywhere you go you hear this song
This song will always be one of my favorites!
Bro idk why but I get so hyped watching you jam out to songs I know
The story is basically he's jealous, and all the things he's thinking of is happening in his head, like a jealous person who invents all kinds of scenarios because of their fear.
The first game in the Big House I got to go to was Michigan V OSU this year. This song has been stuck in my head since hearing so many people singing it. GO BLUE!
Epic bird flyby at 1:52
This song is EPIC!! It’s 2000’s Living On A Prayer or Sweet Caroline… you can’t help but scream it at the top of your lungs all around the world!!!
It amazes me how many iconic songs you have never heard!
Mr. Brightside and "The middle" by Jimmy Eat World are the songs of the last 20 years.
Its about the anxiety of seeing someone you love be with someone else and then imagining what they are doing when they are together
Already knew it was gonna be a banger
This song has consistently charted at least once EVERY YEAR since it's release in 2004. That's wild to me
This might sound bad, but i think the difference between "black music" and "white music" is the instruments and their uses
Any wedding too
Every time this comes on in a British bar or club, it gets everyone hyped xD
being british its SO hard even thinking that people havnt hear this absolute classic, its mental
omg definitely. this song is just as big in australia too, everyone just knows it. crazy how some people haven’t heard of it!!!
Exactly. It was massive in the USA!
OMG YES I LOVED THUS SONG FOR SO LONG AND YOU’RE REACTING TO IT!!!
wow super surprised you've never heard this song before. It's an ANTHEM
Awesome moment with the bird flying in the background while the song says "let me go." Free production value right there! Haha. Great video as always my friend.
Mr brightside a certified hood classic
this song is an iconic college banger. i always hear it on the dance floor. it gets everyone so fired up
Unexpected song choice, but a very pleasant one nonetheless. Keep up the fantastic work!
This is basically the national anthem here in England. Gives me goosebumps whenever I hear it and I've heard it probably hundreds of times!
I refuse to believe there is a single human on this planet who has NEVER heard this song!!!????
I’ve been addicted to this song for months! I’m excited to see your reaction!
Edit: The song is about a man feeling jealous after seeing the woman he has feelings for kissing another man, and proceeds to think about the things she is doing with the other man.
The song entered the UK top 100 charts in 2004 and NEVER left the charts until 2022...
7 and a half years in the uk top 100..😮😮
Love this song
To hear this for the first time again would be amazing
Always loved this song. Next song to react to should be "Cross Off" by Mark Morton ft Chester Bennington.
I love watching people Jam to songs I frickin' love 😂
Your telling me this man has never heard this classic? 🧢
Right? Like even if you didn’t know the title or artist no way he’s never heard this
Picture the scene it’s New Years in the boozer everyone’s getting hammered and this song comes on.
Finally getting to The Killers, such a great band, so underappreciated!
Not in the UK.
Damn this shit brought back memories, another banger from The Killers you should react to is Somebody Told Me
The Music video gives a deep understanding of the song, I definitely recommend that
How the fuck have you never heard this song. You need to get out more.
Frrrr😭 it is soooo biggggg
I've been patiently waiting for this song's turn
I remember when you had 30k subs. Knew you would be a hit and make it. Congrats, keep it up
Bruh i swear layedbak always makes me feel music differently and I love it
man this song came out nearly 20 years ago and is played nearly everywhere how has he not heard this
One of my favorite songs outside the rap genre, glad you came across it!
This reaction made my day. Thank you man
This song was my childhood brings back memories.
I love all the love for this song in the UK. We do the same here in the US, depending on the bar. 😂😂❤
