They also did a longer interview with him where he explained why he plays with tape and gloves. In short (from memory): he started at Megadeth without and ended up on tour with blisters and wounds on his hand to the point where they had to cancel a show due to him being unable to play. So he started to protect his hands that he doesn't cause this anymore.
Your review of Chads take on The Kill was by FAR the best, most detailed, most thoughtful and most entertaining of the 10+ I’ve watched. Glad I subbed to be back for this one. Great comments again. I - like you - was just holding on for that double bass extravaganza he gave us at the end 😂😂😂of
As someone who was never interested in drums, and got the Drumeo videos randomly recommended by UA-cam, the entire series has been an eye-opening experience into the experience of drumming and music in general. Every video, and I mean EVERY VIDEO, in the playlist, teaches me something about drumming, whether it's something technical, or more about the mindset and attitude. Even those who didn't perform as well when faced with playing a completely unknown track while being recorded, displayed professionalism and a mentality of willing to try out new stuff and learn. Truly a series worth watching, even for those who don't play the drums. And your breakdowns on them are some of the most instructive I've seen. There are plenty of other reactions, but they tend to focus on the drummers talking about mindset and approach to music, without explaining what's happening in the way a layperson can understand. Would love to see more of these!
I loved Dirks version so much more… the halftime made it feel more appropriate for the lyrics. Plus, guy seems to be incredibly down to earth and chill.
I was gonna say this. As much as I love the whole "pop song with dark lyrics' thing (Foster The People anyone? lol)...I think Dirk's version lets the somberness of Mr Brightside breathe a bit more.
Honestly think I like Dirk’s version more. Obviously there could be some tune-ups and new things added, but the variability of the drums brings a whole new emotion and vibe to the song. It feels darker, less poppy, more emotional. I really dig it. Also loving all of your reactions so far. Definitely earned a sub 🤙🏼
The first time I saw this, that half-time verse hit me like a fucking truck. It is *crazy* how just that one thing completely changes the feel and tone of the entire song
Dirk picked up exactly where the drum should step up and where it should fall back. if you have a voice taking the lead, LEAVE THE VOICE to do it's thing! when the voice leaves, that's when you go all out!
A strong reccomendation from this series is Mike Portnoy playing Nickleback! I would love to hear your feedback for that video! And love to hear some who really knows and explains this stuff, you my man just gained a subscriber!
This is so cool to see your reaction to this. I'm not a drummer but channels like yours are teaching me a lot. Plus it's cool to see someone excited about music
I’m jet lagged and down a drumeo rabbit hole. I’m the furthest thing from a musician but I love music, I’m not a reaction video guy, so I don’t know what drew me to your video on Chad first and now the channel but thank you. Probably won’t sleep for a few days but thank you.
Really like your breakdown. A lot of reactors who claim to be drummers are drummers in the way I am a basketball player because I had a hoop in my driveway in eight grade.
This is a really nice breakdown, especially as someone who doesn’t know music or drums it’s cool to have a little more understanding of what’s happening. Got even more appreciation for how these pro’s can take on a piece of music in such a short time frame.
Just found your channel, best “Reaction” videos I’ve seen. We all get the song is awesome. Great to hear you take more on, subscribed and ill be along for the ride, I’m sure your list is long but anything by Larnell Lewis with Snarky puppy is great, and I would love to hear your take. Lingus or we like it here would be my top two. He learned the songs on the plane over to fill in for their drummer. Just amazing
Just watching these vids myself for the first time! I'm not a musician myself, but i do like that you clearly know what you're talking about and it's cool listening to your expertise. I'd love to see what you think of Nandi's take on Twisted Sister from Drumeo. Same format. Especially since she's so young!
Check out Larnell Lewis Hears a Song Once and Plays It Perfectly. He writes an absolutely incredible drum part and his insights on his listening and writing process are genius. It’ll have your jaw on the floor. After that, Larnell Lewis Hears Enter Sandman for the First Time is a natural followup. Loving these reactions and your analysis.
I'm pld so I have little knowledge of what will "break the internet" at any given time... but I have UA-cam. I saw this drum session for the first time on your channel... you are a knowledgeable young man. The Chad Smith video was an instance of true artistry... I am happy for Drumeo... Smith and the Peppers (not that they need recognition)... and for your channel maybe getting some subscribers. A rising tide lifts all ships
The other video with Megadeth's drummer (Megadeth Drummer Learns Blink-182) on their channel is also very worth seeing. Love your reaction and breakdown.
If no one has mentioned it before - Dirk is most well known in the metal community for his work with Soilwork, but has also been sessioning for The Project Hate's last few albums, on top of a million more (never enough drummers, right?). He has his own technique for blast beats coined as the "Dirk Blast". Check out some Soilwork - basically anything prior to like 2010, I guess.
"The drummer for Megadeth" :D Or as some know him the drummer for Soilwork and inventor of The Dir Blast, an absolute beast of a drummer. ua-cam.com/video/ZjeY4RG6b3A/v-deo.html
The first Drumeo video I ever watched was the Chad Smith one, which was fascinating and amazing. This was the 2nd Drumeo video I watched… and it blew my mind how much the drum line can completely alter the feeling and dynamic of a song. Also how he interpreted the song in a completely different way from never hearing it before and being allowed to create his own version. I’m not a drummer but I have a tremendous appreciation for their talent 🙌🏼 My next Drumeo recommendation would be Darnell Lewis playing Enter Sandman! Hearing his intellectual breakdown of the song is great 👍🏼
This is the most technical drum reaction channel I know on UA-cam. I'm not a drummer or trained in music in any way but I'm learning so much watching your videos. Boy am I glad I ran into this channel. Subscribe -> Click!
This was a great reaction! (so was your Chad Smith reaction). Would love to see your take on Domino SanTantonio playing "Slipknot." Same Drumeo format as these two, but her approach is different than either Chad or Dirk's. Would love to see your technical aspect of how it's broken down and what she is doing.
As a DJ who sometimes mixes songs too quickly at times due to wanting to show off so much great music to the crowd. Nothing is better then letting a song with a beautiful ending bleed into the next song to appreciate it.
Have you reacted to Nandi Bushell on Drumeo yet? She’s a young amazing drummer, that in one video made her own part on “we’re not gonna take it” from Twisted Sister and I think you’ll like it!
I don’t think you realized that when he was doing the song breakdown they didn’t include the drum track so could only go by the vocals, guitars and bass to determine the drum part.
I actually watched the Chad Smith video before this one. So I learned about that in the previous video and didn’t really acknowledge it in this one. Sorry about that. Still, incredibly impressive!
I'm not a drummer but I kinda dip into all areas of the band.. I mean I can hold a tune on all instruments but by no means a pro 😂 anyways, I get what you're saying about him missing the ending...he going to watch this back and just keep thinking "damnit, I cant believe I missed that" even tho this was a first time and just for fun...love your break downs of these, I hope drumeo does more, this is gold 👍
Wasn’t a theater kid. I did reaction videos a LOOONG time ago and got really good at listening and talking at the same time. Singing is basically the same thing.
As a drummer, I can read music, but it's much easier to just hear it. I've dabbled in piano and guitar, and for piano it's helpful but very unnecessary unless your playing like orchestra. And for guitar, never once in my life have I used a chart. But particularly drums, charts are completely useless. Just play what you want and I'll make it work. Alot of the time when I play along to songs I'll just fill in parts where I think something should be, extra kicks, another snare, little hi-hi notes, that's the cool thing about drums, as long as you don't over play it works.
Please, If you haven't heard them yet, Archspire is a great band. Their drummer, Spencer Prewett is a machine. I would love to see your reaction to their music!
Hey, nice reactions! the best I’ve seen so far. Please, react to Eloy Casagrande drum cover of The Heretic Anthem by Slipknot! Such a nice timing for it. 🎉
Your missing the best singing drummer around today.. Her name is PAULINA VILLARREAL . From the band "THE WARNING" 3 sisters from Mexico see her live 2023 VMAs The Warning EVOLVE or see live at TEATRO METROPOLITAN CDMX 2022 do DISCIPLE OR DUST TO DUST OR 23 you'll fall in love with this band and the drummer.. she was a baby when she started all 3 sisters started as kids..
Interesting. I used to get blisters, but they eventually turned into calluses. I guess I have never played on Megadeth levels!
he was playing with gloves for years before megadeth. there are videos of him playing with devin townsend from 13 years ago and he always had gloves.
Your review of Chads take on The Kill was by FAR the best, most detailed, most thoughtful and most entertaining of the 10+ I’ve watched. Glad I subbed to be back for this one. Great comments again. I - like you - was just holding on for that double bass extravaganza he gave us at the end 😂😂😂of
cant wait for him to hopefully react to the Domino Santantonio slipknot one !
The fact that Chad played that off the hop was insane
@@sean1e100 lmao he literally just copied everyone else who “reacted.” Oh to be young and gullible again.

He gave the song a completely different feeling. Amazing to see what a huge difference a drum track can make.
I loved Dirks version so much more… the halftime made it feel more appropriate for the lyrics. Plus, guy seems to be incredibly down to earth and chill.
I actually thought it was a fantastic take... caught me off guard but instantly vibed with it.
I was gonna say this.
As much as I love the whole "pop song with dark lyrics' thing (Foster The People anyone? lol)...I think Dirk's version lets the somberness of Mr Brightside breathe a bit more.
It makes sense that he would play it more melancholy without hearing it before. It is a sadder sounding song.
I was pleasantly surprised with his version of the song. It’s definitely a vibe. Feels like a 90’s punk band with a groove.
like if early rhcp invaded a pop recording :D
I love his take on the song 🎧. As a kid that was a big fan of Mr. Brightside. This is such a fresh take and it’s unbelievable.
The killers have been my favorite band since I was in middle school. And while I love the original, this is definitely warmed its way into my heart.❤
The first time I saw this, that half-time verse hit me like a fucking truck. It is *crazy* how just that one thing completely changes the feel and tone of the entire song
Missing the ending just sells the authenticity of it to me haha
Dirk picked up exactly where the drum should step up and where it should fall back.

Mr Verbeuren version was so good I trimmed and turned it into MP3.
Now I listen the original and his version along. That was awesome!
Can you share? I love his take on it.
took the song from a revenge fantasy to a tragic ballad with his tempo, insane
I just love how he changes the WHOLE thing.
Just found your channel!!! Thank you for reacting to this vid! Thoroughly enjoyed your insight!
Really like your breakdown. A lot of reactors who claim to be drummers are drummers in the way I am a basketball player because I had a hoop in my driveway in eight grade.

Him playing this so well made me check out megadeth
YOU are so entertaining..your reviews are intoxicating 🤘🏻❤️

great series of reactions! Continue like this, your reaction videos is the best of UA-cam!
13:47 everyone in the studio too haha
This and domino's are my fav from drumeo first times
I love this version actually! Slower build up works for me in the verses imo - especially over the "it's killing me" bit
That triplet tom fill is divided as 4 hits on the toms and 2 on the kick to create clusters of 6.
Just watching these vids myself for the first time! I'm not a musician myself, but i do like that you clearly know what you're talking about and it's cool listening to your expertise. pls keep on the good work.

Came for the title, stayed for the sick DBZ sleeve. SICK art

Late to this party. Really appreciated your Reaction. As an old amateur muso, it's really refreshing to hear your insights. Thank you so much!
The other video with Megadeth's drummer (Megadeth Drummer Learns Blink-182) on their channel is also very worth seeing. Love your reaction and breakdown.
Love your reviews on these videos! Can't wait for you to see Mike Portnoy's Nickelback one! IT IS AMAZING!
Dirk is one of the best to do it. His stuff with his previous band, Soilwork, is some of my favorite drumming ever
Great videos. I rarely comment but I am enjoying your take.
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it enough to comment!
Just finished watching the Chad smith one where you mentioned this at the end…. So keen to see it and here it is! :D (also second lol)

best detail reaction thank you!
This is the most technical drum reaction channel I know on UA-cam.
I'm not a drummer or trained in music in any way but I'm learning so much watching your videos.
Boy am I glad I ran into this channel. Subscribe -> Click!
Yesss been waiting on this one!!!
Leave it to the metal drummer to take it to half time 🤘🏻🤘🏻
Awesome video again! Really love your content. I would recommend watching Domino Santantonio having a go at a Slipknot song from the same series 👍
I really enjoyed Dirk’s session with Drumeo. His personality is infectious.
I'd be interested to see what you think of Frank Bellucci doing Rob Zombie's Dragula on Drumeo (I think it's my favourite).
Dangit man! Just found your channel from the 30STM cover. Now its 0400 and i have to he up in 3 hours ... 😂
Great taste in anime, brother! If no one else has ever told you, I appreciate it!
You should check out Nandi Bushell playing drums to "We're not gonna take it" by Twisted Sister having not heard it before, on drumeo.
Should check out Greyson Nekrutman hears Sleep Token for the first time
Dirk is a beast! An amazingly able, but lovable and cuddly beast! XD
As a DJ who sometimes mixes songs too quickly at times due to wanting to show off so much great music to the crowd. Nothing is better then letting a song with a beautiful ending bleed into the next song to appreciate it.
Mike Portnoy does Nickelback, and Dirk playing Paramore! Both are excellent
Comment: This drummer should be playing in the Killers for a little while (so he can give these songs lots of life-drum wise). 2024.
Have you watched "Nana Dorothea" play Down with the sickness on drums? I would love to see your reaction on that
Dominos drumeo vid was so good too you should give it a watch
Have you reacted to Nandi Bushell on Drumeo yet? She’s a young amazing drummer, that in one video made her own part on “we’re not gonna take it” from Twisted Sister and I think you’ll like it!

Loving your comments, subscribed :)
those fills were not triplets on the toms but actually rlrlkk!
rlrlkkrlrlkkrlrlkk
Love the sleeve tattoo I have the same dragon ball on my hand
Before I watched the original video I thought Mr. Brightside in half time would sound awful, but BOY was I wrong. Dirk is such a master of his craft.
Definitely check out anything with Domino. She is so much fun!
What’d you think of Domino Santantino’s Slipknot cover? She got busy👌🏾
2:31 it's wild that you would choose to sing it like that while actively listening to the song. were you a theater kid?
Wasn’t a theater kid. I did reaction videos a LOOONG time ago and got really good at listening and talking at the same time. Singing is basically the same thing.

His version makes me.like the song
He killed it
DIRK DID A NEW ONE!
Check if you can freedom live version from Band Maid, the drummer is amazing. IMO best band right now.
Pretty sure it’s actually quads over doubles. I do that a lot, but I’m also listening on my phone lol
Definitely changed the tone. Same reaction I had.
Watch some Matt Greiner.
I think this is much better than the original.
Yes Sugarfoot is a must!
Please react to one of dominos videos! So cool to see a popdrummer do some real deep metal!
YES!!
AGUANTE DIRK ❤UN GENIOOOO SALUDOS DESDE ARGENTINA 🇦🇷
I didn't even know Aaron Rodgers could drum.
Personally I’m partial to the K customs symbols that my school has we have a custom dark ride and it is amazing.
Ex drummer from Soilwork.
Larnell Lewis’ Drumeo videos are great
He made it sound way better lol
Now check out domino santantonio do the same with mastadon.
El estepario siberiano covered mr brightsight too
Please, If you haven't heard them yet, Archspire is a great band. Their drummer, Spencer Prewett is a machine. I would love to see your reaction to their music!
Another machine is Alex Bent of Trivium
Very random but what's the name of the song from your intro??? I reaaaally like it!
ua-cam.com/video/0zSM52R4S8E/v-deo.html
You should check out the sugarfoot moffet cover of linkin park. Pretty cool
👀
Hey, nice reactions! the best I’ve seen so far. Please, react to Eloy Casagrande drum cover of The Heretic Anthem by Slipknot! Such a nice timing for it. 🎉
React to his megadeth holy wars on drumeo
From the Drumeo series you should do the Metallica one, one of the first ones
lotta these sound better than the original
Dude, I hate when I watch half the video in 480p.
Your missing the best singing drummer around today.. Her name is PAULINA VILLARREAL . I actually commented on another video that I would love to see her do one of these with Drumeo.
