What’s fascinating about destiny is how every gun, every character, every map, every location, every armor piece, every ship, every name, every word, and every single pixel and line of code and graphics of the game, has a story. Which links to more and more stories.
I often compare the lore to 40k, such as the hive and the necrons, both were dying species that made a deal with the devil and are now both undead monstrosity's
Xavier Kane I won’t deny the music for the theme but I don’t particularly think it was good music in my opinion ofc. Honestly I like the D2, rise of iron and original soundtrack better

I am currently working on trying to make a dnd game that is centered around the hive and wanted to keep things as accurate as possible to the original source so THANK YOU. These videos have been and will continue to be super useful in understanding the game itself as well as giving people a creative outlet to express themselves outside of just the game. You have been a huge help and I cannot thank you enough.
+Fox Troop the fact that vanilla destiny was so bland and bare bones is the reason why people said it doesn't have a story. the fact it took bungie a full two years to actually give us the full game with the full story is also why people hate bungie.
I know this is a year old but it shouldn't even be in the game just to read. That's the lazy route of lore. Games like Dark Souls can get away with it because not only can you read about it, you can see how the events you read about have effected the world you're walking around in. That's called environmental storytelling, and I think that's the most important element of game design period when it comes to telling a story.
+Krimzerk - Gameplay Actually, if they weren't with anyone, they would be good. Activist on is merely the provider, as is Microsoft. And Microsoft doesn't develop story. Bungie made there story. Activision didn't do anything about it. Sorry to put you down.
This is a very good summary and visualization of the Books of Sorrow, but I recommend everyone who likes it to read the actual Books of Sorrow. There is a distinct weirdness and creepiness to them that isn't conveyed as well when it isn't in the 1st person (the books are sort of Oryx's diary). Also, there's a lot of dialogue in these videos that aren't actually in the Books of Sorrow. It's used to convey ideas from the books, but they are presented much more in depth and thematically interesting in the books. Also, many parts are visually (as in how the text on the page looks) important. Still a great video and introduction to Destiny's best story and most tragic hero-turned-villain that is Oryx.
Yeah, the biggest difference was the Ahamkara line. Byf had them calling themselves that when the Books never say anything remotely like that. That's Byf's theory. An interesting one to be sure, but definitely not something the Books come close to confirming.
Josef Muller bruh, just google it. Search up "Ishtar Collective" and search on their site for the Books of Sorrow. You'll find all the verses compiled in the correct order. It's quite simply amazing. I definitely recommend reading it.

This reminds me of the prepare to cry series we had for Dark Souls.
not as aurash not as auryx but as oryx, the taken king. DID ANYONE ELSE HAVE A FUCKING FANBOYISM AT THAT IM STILL SUPER EXCITED
not only are these informative and intriguing but they're beautifully composed. I like how destiny has so much back story lore yet wish they would make more story up front. this all being said they need to give you a fucking job!
Bungie, hire this dude
Its crazy to think of how much our understanding of Destiny's lore has changed in six years.
God I love your voice! I can't wait for more lore from you!
love your videos. can you add subtitles
I can throw up the script to each episode :P
Is it possible that the massive object under the floating cities of titan our ghost talks about is the leviathan? I mean titan was under complete control of the hive till the guardians arrive and bring the fallen with them
Part 2 please!!! Those was literally the best thing I've seen in a loooooong time
4 years later and still a great video for new guardians interested in back story lore
Wow, the game mechanics "Touch of the Sky," "Touch of the Deep" now make sense. Amazing. Like a lot of game mechanics make so much sense now.
Looking forward to part 2. Hope this gets featured on bungie.net because this is one that everyone needs to see.
ORYX was a lady OOOOOOOOOOOOH MY GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD
Einhorn is Finkle. FINKLE. IS. EINHORN.
He he, trasgender
Robert Gutierrez well he switched I guess🤔
G e n d e r f l u i d
From lady to MANLY MAN
Byf has the best lore content he explains and breaks down everything so well puts everything in order I have been searching for a while and went thru several content creators and Byf is definitely the best content creator for lore and destiny universe
Man, just absolutely amazing! Your editing, your progression, everything. It's awesome. You definitely have the voice of a story teller. Or rather more poetic, "lore speaker". Keep up the amazing work!
Glad your getting back to the lore. It's what made me subscribe originally.
To think what we learned of this pact via Witch Queen's story. GG Bungie..never saw that coming.
Question for Byf: Do you think Touch of Malice is a fragment of Oryx, or his worm?
+Gaming Wizard but think, RAVENOUS. Oryx needed to constantly feed his worm, so wouldn't that make more sense?
Unfortunately your question will go unanswered.
+Savage Xathi why's that?
Byf never Responds.
*but i think ToM is his worm*
I read, or tried to understand the Books of Sorrow, but in this convenient and impressive work of art it’s become a comprehensive tale to ponder. Thanks for the good work! I love a good story.
Everytime I watch the beginning of this I get mad goosebumps
WHERE IS PART 2 BYF THE FANS WANT MORE
This lore helps me fall asleep! You're gonna tell some good stories to your children man
toland or osiris for the extra lore #warlockmasterrace
+Khaled Karkoush i dont exactly see anyone complaining about how good warlocks are
I would like to see a Praedyth/Kabr/Pahanin video
+Khaled Karkoush Until you're smashed by a titan's OP hammer, lol.
Werewolfman25 i swear i killed more hammers than stormcallers i killed so many hammers its s easy to avoid the hammer
#warlockmaster race
Dude I Love your lore videos. I listen to them like audio books on my drive home from work. Cause, we’ll, it’s that long of a drive.
You know.... even after forsaken... this story is still amazing. And such a great job done on the video
Nooo why make the worms dragons? They would be so much better as colossal worms
EruptYT - Destiny 2 & Fortnite they are
EruptYT - Destiny 2 & Fortnite Oh boy do I have news for you
He he he; warmind came out and -- oh boy... It sucked balls. But still -- big-ass worms.
ALASKAN BULL WORM
Voop1121 Actually, it is worm. I don't know why Byf assumed they were ahmonkara, but as of d2 with the inclusion of xol, that is evidently untrue.
why specifically the phrasing "oh sisters mine"? that is the way riven talks
Because both the Worm Gods and the Ahamkara use the anthem Anatheme (O [subject] Mine) to insert their will into reality.
It's partly the reason everyone thought the Worm God's were related to Ahamkaras back in D1
Alrush saw something:
“The United States postal service! Priority: You!”
I just listened to this and my mouth is hanging open. I loved it. This gives me a whole new layer... a new backstory that gives great enhancement to the game I love so much.... Destiny. Great job Byf ! High marks for your illustrator too. I so enjoyed what you did here. Keep up the god work! I can't wait to listen to part 2.
This was truely amazing! Thank you for helping me to understand the lore of the Hive Gods, Byf
