    Thank you brother. I think I needed the first part more than knowing how to bleed the system.

    I’m a pro at getting these things running. The amount of times I ran out of fuel on my LML is embarrassing. At least 6 times in like 5 year span 🤦‍♂️. My problem is that my low fuel light comes on way too late. This last time it hasn’t even come on and I ran my truck dry.

    Awesome video. Love your morning scripture to start it off! Changed my lift pump filters, and went to change the main filter. I then realized its bypassed, but i already lost prime. Thanks for the quick tip. I just needed to crank her a few extra seconds! Thx

    Hard to hear your video at times. Don't you need to have the ignition switch on while you pump the primer? So the fuel pump sending unit will have pressure in the line from the fuel tank?

    Embarrassed to say I’m new to diesels and I ran out of fuel the other day, I went and bought a new fuel filter but now randomly it will act like I’m out of fuel and bog down… Only for a second then back to normal. Does that mean I need new injectors? I have the money to fix it just don’t want to get bent by a shop since I don’t know much about diesels.

    • @HumbleHotshot
      @HumbleHotshot  2 місяці тому +2

      @frankie107 Did this problem only start after you ran out of fuel? If so, you might just have some air left in the system since changing out your fuel filter. I'd also double check that your filter housing is tight and not leaking. Anywhere fuel leaks out, air can also get sucked in.
      I doubt it's an injector problem if it didn't happen before.
      Thanks for watching and God bless!

    Great information! Sure wish you were closer to me in GA. I have what seems to be a fuel delivery issue with my 03 Dodge 2500 Cummins. Praying you might be able to offer some tips. The other week while on a trip, it started to stumble while in Atlanta traffic, of all places. I had my 2 car gooseneck loaded with 2 units in tow at the time, not super heavy... maybe 12K tops. I continued further, and it seemed to stumble during any acceleration, and eventually so bad that the tach started dancing and it shut off. It did this a dozen or so times, but was able to get my 2 cars dropped in metro Atlanta, and hobble home which is about 90 miles northeast of the metro area.
    The odd part is that it would run really rough, a little smoke at times, stall and shutoff, followed by some hard starts... but then stabilized enough to get to my storage lot near home. I disconnected the trailer, and took it for a test drive a few days later, and it ran ok. Took it to a mechanic nearby, who could not get his scan tool hooked up --- though it NEVER threw any codes during this whole process mind you. Took it to autozone to verify a scan tool could connect, and theirs did.
    Fast forward to the other day, I took it out, and again... it began stumbling and shutting off with any throttle. Barely got it back in the driveway.
    I did put some diesel in that morning prior to everything starting.... about $75 worth at a RaceTrac station, which are common in GA. The issue started hours later after putting on about a 100 miles or so. I replaced the fuel filter a couple of months back with an Autozone Fram el cheapo because that was all they had and I had ran out of decent brand units. This truck did sit for a couple of years prior to May of this year without really being driven anymore than around town.
    Someone said draining the tank, new filter, and run some treatment through might help. Man you are so much more knowledgeable on these trucks than I.... and I know you ran your blue truck for a long time which is nearly the same as mine! What advice might you give me from far off?
    Thanks and many blessings brother.

      Hey brother ! Sorry to hear of your mechanical troubles. I just saw this comment, otherwise I would have replied sooner.
      It certainly does sound like a fuel delivery issue. I would always start by replacing the fuel filter with a known good quality filter. And yes, fresh fuel with treatment certainly can't hurt.
      The next step I would take is to determine if your lift pump (low pressure pump that sends fuel from the tank to the injection pump) is working. The easiest way to do this is to open your fuel cap, cycle the key and bump your starter and listen through the fuel filler neck. You should be able to hear the pump kick on for several seconds after each "bump" of the starter motor.
      These common rail trucks with CP3 injection pump WILL RUN with a dead lift pump, but usually run poorly. The CP3 can siphon all the way from the tank even if the lift pump is not working properly.
      The next possible culprit is the Fuel Control Actuator (FCA) which is a small solenoid type module attached to the injection pump under the hood. I DID HAVE THIS FAIL ON MY 2003. This mostly controls fueling at idle and just off idle. When it failed on mine the truck would pull down the highway all day but would stall at stoplights or randomly while idling. I'm not sure your symptoms are quite the same, but it is a possibility.
      Next in line would be the CP3 injection pump itself though they are known for lasting a long time or multiple failed injectors which are problematic on these early 3rd gens. These are the more expensive components and I would not rush to replace them before ruling out all other possibilities.
      Less likely scenarios could include a clogged vent system on the fuel tank, collapsed fuel hose, cracked fuel hose allowing air to be sucked in, or an extra high rate of fuel return. High return can be caused by a bad fuel pressure relief valve or bad injector(s). High return using causing hard starting / extended crank.
      I know this is quite a list of possibilities but without seeing/ hearing the truck in person it is hard for me to narrow it down. Hopefully this might point you in the right direction though ! Feel free to email me, shep21@gmail.com and I might be able to help you further diagnose.
      Hoping you'll be back on the road soon! God bless and thanks for watching brother!!!

      You should be able to just crack open the bleeder screw and pump the hand pump until you see steady fuel flowing out.
      I only changed the filter in this video b.c. it was due for replacement.
      Good luck and God bless!

    • @HumbleHotshot
      @HumbleHotshot  Рік тому +2

      You might still have air in the system and need to try the priming process again. If not its possible that your lift pump has failed. You can open the fuel cap and have someone turn on the key to see if you can hear the pump working. Definitely make sure you have a good filter too. If those things check out then its possible that you have bigger issues like failing injectors or a bad pressure relief valve etc. Best of luck to you!
