    I’ve got a 2016 lml, and when I bought it GM said to change it around 45,000 miles. Do you think me letting it go that long has hurt it? Im about to start doing it as you suggested. Thanks!

      the 2005 eqanox you have to do it every 30,000 but you cant check it
      so might as well do it every 15,000 to 20,000
      but if youhave a dipstick you can check it and if its brown change it and if its darker brown change it
      if its getting off red change it if its black change it with added lub for next 5 changes
      i change my z28 fluid every 10,000 and its about 9 bottles and its 10 bucks a bottle HAHAHA so yeah
      but i know my gears are running red and what not
      and you can use dex 6 for me thats what i use
      i dont know if diesel is different fluid for trans but all other chevys its all dex 6 now

    For whats it's worth, I change my Allison spin on filter every 25k miles and top off with Transynd. Every 100k, I drain the system and refill. Every 200k I double drain and do the internal filter.
    My Allison made it to 1.2 million miles of towing pretty heavy and often before getting a rebuild.
    LB7 now has 1.3 million on the odometer.

    For an oil filter that is vertical or on a diagonal, I'll take a large nail & w/ a hammer pierce the center(or lowest point) of the filter housing to let the fluid drain...then remove. If you're in a hurry; let the oil drain from the filter for 15-25 seconds, then plug the hole w/ a wood dowel & remove the filter. The filter in the video is small so it'll only take a minute to flow to a drip. I've been doing this on the huge oil filter on my IH/Ford 7.3 Diesel. Keeps the work area & me much cleaner.

      Only one I've ever seen is the big Allison. Drain plug and outside filter.
      I had an outside drain cap and magnet set up in an ancient Chrysler transmission many years ago and never needed it.
      Honda puts their literally thimble size inline transmission filter buried inside the case.
      Once it's plugged, the unit fails. Very handy.

    Thank you for making this video. I am a fairly new Duramax Diesel owner. I also thought all the trans fluid would drain out. That looks easier than an oil change or fuel filter change, I do both of those on my own. I will be doing this right away and often. Thanks again!

    • @markdavid4897
      @markdavid4897 3 роки тому +1

      You won't drain out more than half, because the torque converter is not being drained. The best you can do is drain it. Drive it for a month, then drain it again, where you are increasing the percentage of older fluid to newer fluid. In most cases, that is enough.

    Good idea! I was doing it every 30,000 miles, but will change it at 10,000 miles on my 2005 GMC 2500. I wish all AUTO XMSN filters were this easy to change. I have over 350K miles on this XMSN, and it is still performing great. I also use synthetic Dexron III fluid in it, not the super expensive Allison TranSynd fluid, and it works just fine. No issues at all. And, I read that GM drains the Transynd fluid at the factory, and replaces it with Dexron III before the new trucks leave to be delivered at a dealership..

    • @jaredmayer3960
      @jaredmayer3960 2 роки тому

      Transynd is PAO and is superior to that swarf you’re pouring in your transmission. GM wouldn’t pour our transynd to replace fluids…I heard GM recycles every 2nd truck as it leaves the assembly line too.

Also, my truck has 49k miles on it, and all my service work, from oil changes, to tires is done at my local Chevy dealership. If this is so important, why has no one from the dealership ever mentioned it, and why is there no notification warning as there is for everything else? Is GM deliberately trying to hide this from us, ‘cause it wouldn’t surprise me? I’m not trying to be argumentative, just trying to follow this to its logical conclusion. Thanks!

    Ok so I just bought a 2500 HD I did all the fluid changes . Bought a magnet for. The trans filter. When I did the fuel filter .. I noticed it had no water sensor or separator on it. At this moment I still
    Have 41% oil life left. Today I got all my oil and filters. I plan on getting aid dog set up. When I do what do I do with factory set up. How do I block it or get rid of it? Ty 2005 Chevy HD

      The factory filter should have a water separator built in... big plastic screw with a wire coming out on bottom of filter.
      Lots of companies make filter delete kits, basically a metel bowl that goes in place of filter

    A strong rear earth magnet on the outside of your filter will trap ferrous metal particles. And you can move it to the new filter when you service agian. You can do the same thing with engine oil filter also.
