  • I've started using Blender on the M1 Pro MacBook Pro. Here are two things people were right about when using blender for the first time. Don't use too many vertices. There's no reason to make the render harder than it needs to be. Also, get a mouse. It makes navigating in Blender that much easier compared to the trackpad.

i was learned blender for 2 months, the first month everything went well, entering the second month, bringing a little more knowledge and skills in making 3D animation, I started thinking about upgrading my PC 😂 but of course it's time to save money while being more patient when learning new things in blender 😁

Depending on how good your laptop or pc is, if you're using the subdivision surface modifier, I suggest you keep the levels viewport slider lower, while keeping the render levels slider higher. This should ensure that you have a lag free workspace to work with, and won't drastically affect render time.

I first discovered Blender i think version 2.0a from a book not sure at a bookstore or local library, the software was included. I think around 2001. Riva TNT2 wasn't entirely happy with it once you start pushing the vertex count, but Geforce 2mx was a massive improvement. Then i participated in the crowdfunding campaign in 2004 to buy back the software from the investors and release it as open source. I scored a free computer from a dumpster which was pretty powerful, Athlon 750 released just months prior - PSU was dead and very smelly (Codegen or Chieftech 420) and killed the graphics card (Rage3d, no major loss), optical and hard drives, but mainboard, RAM and CPU survived! Fitted a nice FSP 350 power supply, an ELSA TNT2 i already had, a little old, a fresh Maxtor DM80 hard disk, 80GB, and some beat-up optical drives, and i was all set. That was the computer i learned Blender on. Scored a barely used Mitsubishi DiamondPro monitor as well, not sure what size, 20" or so.
Blender was such a comparatively simple software back then. I had a little experience with trueSpace and Max. trueSpace was junk, and Max was cumbersome. Blender was such a revelation.

From my experience, it’s time consuming, but for starting out it’s alright. In my case (I’ve got a MacBook Pro) I’m rendering a 13sec animation for 12hours. Might change some settings in cycles, that makes much of a difference.
So at the start I would say work with what u got, and if u see limitations, u still can upgrade the pc ur working with.

Which laptop should I buy for my requirements if I want an all-rounder laptop where i will be able to explore all parts of development (Android , software, AI, ML), Cybersecurity. Also 3d modeling software like Blender. I've never done gaming before but can consider it. Please recommend a few laptops under or about INR 70K.
I've considered dell g15 5520 and Acer Nitro 5 both i5 12500H rtx 3050 512 ssd, which one would be good for a blender beginner but will also support my other requirements.

Funny that you have the donut open. I followed the famous donut tutorial series and tried to finally render my animation but even rendering 1 pic with the final sample settings got my gpu (10 GPU on a MC air M2) full. Now when I try to render a pic again it only shows my compositions 🥹 I’m crying my eyes out, not kidding. How tf do I fix this and what is a mac even capable of if 2000 samples is already way too much 😭

There's sooo little support for M2 right now, I'm sorry friend, it's going to be a bit of a wait until companies catch up on patching for M2. Are you running it via Rosetta? An option would be to bring the project file to another computer for rendering until M2 has more support

So far so good. I just started Blender and have been following tutorials. No freezes, crashes or lags thus far. I'm shocked this laptop isn't getting warm at all while doing something like this while laying on bed sheets. Keep a lookout for upcoming shorts about its performance on this mac and useful tips I've learned.

Getting a Mouse???? Omg the worst advise for blender users ever. Blender is MADE for NOT using a mouse.. I mean, there’s shortcut for EVERY SINGLE THING and I work with just my touch pad and keyboard. That accelerates my work process and work flow, nothing I could’ve been achieved using a mouse..
