Newer subscriber to this channel here. This was such a joy to watch. I bought one of these 17” MBP brand new back in the day and used it as my daily driver for years. I also got goose bumps when the MacOS intro video started to play. Thank for the trip down memory lane Luke!
That exact machine is still in use in my living room almost daily... I have replaced the internal HD with an SSD, bought a replacement battery and it still runs well. Solid machine.
My first Apple laptop was the 12” PowerBook G4. Thank you 🙏 Luke for this amazing video. I always wanted the 17” and to see this old non-unibody unit unboxed for the first time…wow, such a special treat!
I would use it and probably upgrade it. To me it’s like having a designer dress and never wearing it.. These thing were made to be used! Life’s short, use it. It’s beautiful 🤩
That welcome intro OMG that hit me hard, I remember I had a MacBook at 11, that I begged my parents for! It was one of the greatest decisions they made. I learned how to type so fast and I learned how to develop, code, hack etc.
My first MacBook was back in 2007, It was the white polycarbonate. I was 17 at the time and my mom purchased it for me from Best Buy for a Christmas present. I used and loved it for 5 years and sold it to a friend. Last week I purchased the same model that looks just like it. Working on getting it cleaned and running again. Great video! Hope to see more like this!
I bought the same exact machine in 2008, but with the 2,5Ghz option. It was the first Apple product EVER I bought and it was astonishing! I still remember having tha machine on the desk beside the old Windows laptop and it was incredibly on a complete another level: the screen, the sound, teh operative system, the user friendly interface, everything was different and better. Long story short, I kept using it - with minor improvments - until 2017, when the mother board and the graphic card broke down and it was quite impossible and too expensive to repair it. As per today Istill think it was the best model of MacBookPro ever, and the glossy 17inches monitor was crazy! Great video, so many memories brought back to the surface! Thanks!
So funny, I had the exact reaction to the OS X startup video a second before you, and started laughing 😂. I loved this video! My first Mac was the 17” PowerBook, fully loaded, still have it, and it still works. Wish I could do more with it now, but loved it. It has a g4 processor, so performance wasn’t amazing. I still have it’s box and I hope, all it’s accessories. What an awesome find, thanks for the video! Are there ways of installing modern supported browsers on older Macs with power PowerPC processors?
I really love these old pre-unibody MacBook Pros. But if I really want one, I’ll get the late 2008 17 inch with the original Nvidia 8600M GT replaced with a newer (and very reliable) revision version of the 8600M GT. Edit: I don’t have an early/late 2008 MBP, but I got an early 2006 MBP which is decent.
I love your videos and this one was special for me, too. I remember opening the box of my 2007 mbp 17”, it was my first Mac laptop. I still have it and the box and remote... this computer has saved me when the graphics card died on my iMac. It’s slow and I’ve actually been wanting to ask about what updates I could do to it. I’ve gone though many batteries...I upped the ram and a larger 720 hard drive that’s pretty full but, I’ve been thinking the only thing I could do is replace it with an SSD. I investigated that ssd port on the side but I’m not sure if I’m finding the right product for that. Any opinion is welcome.
About a month ago I bought a new, unopened polycarbonate white MacBook from 2009. Opening something that had been preserved so perfectly was amazing, but I'm really amazed at how, after upgrading the SSD, replacing the battery, and maxing out its memory to 8GB, it's comparable in day-to-day performance to many modern laptops, and the build quality and trackpad are amazing. And the initial startup video of Snow Leopard was really such a reminder of the old days of Apple when there seemed to be more quirky fun-ness to them.

i did and it was the best feeling in the world; and from where i'm from at the time ; no one knows anything about Apple and Unix operating systems ; all they know is the ipod and iphone was still at its infancy
This generation of MacBook still has the best keyboard feel imo.
im using a MacBook Pro :o
@@ehaheh I don't have money for macbook :(
@@samuelzuffa4298 buy one used. There’s loads in good condition out there.
@I HATE BRICK HILL it's not, why the windows 10 is almost 7 years old? Why the copying of the text is working only sometimes? Why it is so hard to use?
@I HATE BRICK HILL and? Nobody's playing steam games on Macs, and the Windows 7 was better than 10, even prettier.
Bloody Hell you would think he was opening Tutankhamun's sarcophagus
11:50 the most satisfying transition...missing my 2008 MacBook right now
ah yes, this takes me way back......... to May when I unboxed my 16 inch MacBook Pro
Newer subscriber to this channel here. This was such a joy to watch. I bought one of these 17” MBP brand new back in the day and used it as my daily driver for years. I also got goose bumps when the MacOS intro video started to play. Thank for the trip down memory lane Luke!
Watching this video on my 2020 MacBook Pro. Man, it's apparent that we've come SO FAR in tech in just 13 years...
we ve come so far that they can make stuff to break after a certain time
11:19 pause at that frame
Revelation time!
Crazy how they went back to utilize this design for the new 2021 model’s !
You look like young Sheldon growing up to be Macbook lover over pc!
Ah the days when apple used to give you more in the box. Nowadays it’s just the product itself and if you’re lucky, one charger cable
I am watching this video on my 2005 MacBook... This feels so privileged and mean for some reason now!
The early 2010 MBP 15 inch saved me from Vista and I still regard Snow Leopard as the best operating system ever made.
I wish Apple still had those intro videos! Miss that!!😩😩🖤🖤 Love this!!🖤
I remember this MacBook. My friend used to own one. He had a MacBook and an iPod and Sony PSP. A proper rich kid. I haven't seen him 10 years.
😂😂
That's stunning! I remember lusting over these MacBook Pros when I was younger.
Me too, but with the 15 inch models. I did eventually get a 2012 MBP 15 later on, though, before I eventually sold it off.
I had the 15 inch!
I would use it and probably upgrade it. To me it’s like having a designer dress and never wearing it.. These thing were made to be used! Life’s short, use it. It’s beautiful 🤩
“They crunch when you type” I know exactly what he’s talking about.😂
That welcome intro OMG that hit me hard, I remember I had a MacBook at 11, that I begged my parents for! It was one of the greatest decisions they made. I learned how to type so fast and I learned how to develop, code, hack etc.
14:22 When macs where in there prime
Back in the day, I had one, great laptop.
The Classic Welcome Screen got me Excited and remembered my First Black Plastic Macbook back in 2009.
I recently had the experience with a mac mini from 2014, it smelled new and it feels good and weird, hahaha. I understand you 100%
THIS WAS SUCH A TREAT GETTING TO SEE THIS AND WATCHING YOUR REACTIONS!! THANK YOU!!
God that intro was legit, bring it back!
This is the exact model as my first Mac, back in 2007!
Thanks!
how amazing is that welcome scene, wish that comes back
So funny, I had the exact reaction to the OS X startup video a second before you, and started laughing 😂.
Install TenFourFox, it is modded version of Firefox for older computers and it gets updates still
It is the only option of a modern browser :D
@@collectmacintosh Thanks so much! I can't wait to try this out!!!
For some reason UA-cam suggested me this video after 4 years of being uploaded.
Same 😁 they keeping the good stuff
I really love these old pre-unibody MacBook Pros. But if I really want one, I’ll get the late 2008 17 inch with the original Nvidia 8600M GT replaced with a newer (and very reliable) revision version of the 8600M GT.
Edit: I don’t have an early/late 2008 MBP, but I got an early 2006 MBP which is decent.
"its smells new" me: A N T H R A X
Anthrax vaccine :)
That OSX intro will forever be my first and most nostalgic introduction to Macs.
You can use a patcher to run Mojave on these I believe, your best bet for upgrading is definitely an SSD
Luke Miani thank you! Either I do that or a 16” MacBook Pro, it just bothers me that I can’t upgrade later...
“Woah wait a min that’s not new that’s refebished”
The first new computer I unboxed was an Apple IIc back in 1985, which I still have and still functioning.
“Idk if this will even do well on UA-cam”
*Ends up being is #2 most popular video on his channel*
In 2007 I was smoking weed and watching Zeitgeist documentaries. Now 13 years later I'm watching the Zeitgeist documentaries come to life.
