I didn't feel it, idk if there was any chemistry. It felt forced like bc they are the same race they should date. Canaan makes more sense with Kimberly. Their relationship was a slow burn and they get eat other plus they support each other and make each other better. Whitney was too insecure, first about who she is outside of sports then about if Canaan likes her enough. She doesn't even feel comfortable asking him things without first going through his phone.
Whitney and Canaan were never on the same level.
the whole tatum dating leighton i interpreted not only as a fun gay stereotype moment of dating ur twin but also symbolizing leighton looking into a mirror and seeing her own flaws reflected back to her
It was funny having Leighton date what's essentially her twin, but the satisfaction of Leighton admitting that Tatum's personality of being mean, judgmental, and selfish are the things she's working on bettering herself comes second to none. It's one of the show's highlights.

Also it's so true so many people will talk shit about their younger version of themselves saying how they were so cringe. It's so sad all that's almost become normal like I see segments of celebrities literally looking back at their younger selves saying how cringe they were for thinking that they were wearing such an awesome outfit or for having their makeup or hairstyle a certain way when really for that time they looked pretty awesome. Also almost every time someone shows a younger version of themselves and they say how cringe they were for thinking something is cool it's never really that bad of a picture to begin with. I can't wait for add to become a trend when we actually start accepting and loving the younger versions of ourselves instead of shiting all over it.
I wish the show was at least five episodes longer because a lot of the storylines would have felt so much more cohesive. Also did not understand how we spent a season with Jackson and then was quickly dropped to the end, I don't know man lmaoo.

I really appreciate your nuanced take on Bela. I came into college with low self esteem and was sexually assaulted several times. I can relate to the negative self talk, hypersexuality, and impulsive decisions. Bela was terrible this season, but I can't help but sympathize with her.
Yeah I know I think what Bella really needs is to get some therapy and to understand that her self worth does not come from but she offers people in terms of her body or her humor or anything like that. Like if you think about it she's giving off desperate awkward aka pick me energy and that sucks bc she's actually talented and has friends and family who really love and believe in her.
Bela's definitely still dealing with the trauma of her assault in season 1 but I don't think the show is doing a great job articulating that to the audience.

I'm glad her friend at least talked to her about it and told her how messed up it was that she kept reminding people how ugly and how much of a loser she was in comparison to her and that she would never try to do that to her. Bella literally got mad at her because she thought that she was doing what she originally tried to do to her. It was so weird and that barely got touched on.

At the very least if you go to a college or university that doesn't have it and some things like that happened on campus they would definitely have to give you a referral to low-cost options.

@@BellesView Irl, she would be on warning first semester then probation 2nd. If she didn't have a 2.0 GPA or above during the semester to stay on probation, she would've had to sit out a semester but she could still take classes at her local college if they were able to be transferred over
@@BellesViewIDK how that was hard to believe when Bella was literally hyper focused on her Comedy Club / magazine and partying and getting laid all the time. If you notice in the friend group they showed all the friends caring about classes and studying or other things like that and Bella didn't ever mention any of those things. As for how realistic it is that she's now with a GPA of 1.8; I was assuming they were saying that they got all their grades back and now she realized that her GPA has sunk that low. Not sure how she would be able to qualify to transfer with that low of a GPA but again we didn't see the rest of that interaction just Bella saying that she wanted to transfer and how bad she was doing at that College/uni.

Every character having a horrible character arc/assassination on the level of Game of Thrones except Leighton is definitely a feat I've never expected Mindy Kaling to meet and pass with flying colors...
the pacing of this show is really horrific which is probably why i was so put off by a lot of the things that happened this season. i kept feeling like things were rushed and wasn’t in character but it’s not that it wasn’t in character, it’s bc this show is a tiktok, it has the pacing of a tiktok that is not gonna have a part 2 so it’s gotta be everything in that one tiktok

I actually loved this season but why the fuck was Bela sleeping with a grown ass COMEDY MAN glossed over?! I guess the way the season ended, looks like she’s getting therapy anyways lol There were a lot of uncomfortably realistic moments but that’s why I like this show. It’s not just about what the title says, there’s a lot more deeper meanings to what the girls go through. And I’m so glad Leighton has grown, she and Whitney are my favorites. Leighton and Alicia are end game… like when they broke up I was like NOOO Leighton was growing. And now she’s back. Idk what’s going on with Kimberly, she’s a mess other than Bela lol

I liked Tatum for Leighton based on her reaction to Leighton not being out. She was so understanding and clearly stated that Leighton should come out when she was ready, which she needed after Alicia. THe way she reacted in that scene made it seemed like she had trauma. After the woman's center party, I understood why Leighton broke up with her though. I understand why Alicia was frustrated with dating someone in the closet but I didn't like how she expressed it to Leighton. I think ultimately, Leighton benefitted from both relationships. She gained the courage to come out from both and learned about having a loving relationship with Alicia.
I think that there was a difference though between what leighton was asking from Tatum and Alicia, when she was with Alicia she wasn’t out to anyone at all vrs when she was with Tatum she was only not out to her parents

The sex scenes happen really fast which is why I feel like that is just a pacing issue. The only thing he said was that she looked good and all of the sudden she starts kissing him it felt rushed 😭 it would have been more realistic to see him slowly lean into her flirting and take advantage of her with his power when she brought up her comedy stuff
People think that cheating is the only bad thing you can do in a relationship but Eric was awful to Bela for an opportunity he'd get anyway, he literally has contacts we saw in s1 with other prolific professionals

Cheating is definitely bad. However I agreed that they both were terrible for each other and that it would have been better if they both would have just broken up. I do think that we have to remember the Bella was the one who set up the precedent that they both do whatever they need to do to get their career ahead. Remember when she took his magazine and she changed the front cover without asking him? I mean that was bad too. So it's kind of hard for Bella to do these things and also expect Eric to play fair because she didn't set up the precedent of their relationship where it was on even grounds but yeah they should have had more of a discussion on that. Had the show gone with a different direction they could have had a discussion about that which became an argument and then they could have broken up because Bella could have said that she wanted someone who wasn't her direct competition and that could just sometimes just support her and then Eric could say that he doesn't feel like she supports him enough to begin with. Although the way the show went is pretty realistic, Bella is not good with confrontation. Every time we've seen in the show something becomes an issue and she needs to do something about it; the first thing she does is either ignores it or runs away and or waits until it gets worse. This is her behavioral pattern so it only makes sense that would happen.
i was watching the season back and watching caanan and whitney’s interactions after they broke up, it’s obvious she still liked him. i was happy she saw him kissing kimberly because it was a wake up call but i wholeheartedly wish it was zoe
Kim annoyed me the most this season 2. They went the route of a not so good looking white women pulling all the fine men, instead her POC cast. Canaan said Kimberley reminded her of her teacher, but was attracted to her enough to kiss her?? It was giving forced.

Also when it comes to Whitney I didn't necessarily think she was struggling per se I think that she didn't actually address the whole her having an affair with the assistant coach thing. She also needs therapy because that was definitely an abuse of power even if it wasn't a grooming situation since she was 18.
Eric pissed me offff like I didn’t buy them trying to pair him with Bela so bad… like Bela had been working for that man, she went to go get him at the airport and everything. Canaan and Whitney never did anything for me tbh. No chemistry. They seemed to be placed together because they were black and we deserve better black love representation. Many people say kimberly and him were random but I got hints of them being together since season 1. Whitney's love interests have not been great overall
Gurl, I was WAITING for you to do a commentary on this season!!! I lived for your video on the first season and like always, you did not disappoint! Here's my takes:
-I agree with Whitney dealing with the trauma from the coach and it would've been nice to explore that and express that to Canaan because that's why she felt the need to check his phone instead of just being honest with him. I felt so bad for Whitney witnessing Kimberly and Canaan kiss. I understood her disappointment and anger for her when she gave Kimberly the benefit of the doubt and a chance to explain herself, but instead, chose to lie about it. I got a feeling it's gonna get ugly between the two next season. I loved seeing her figure out what she wanted to do with her future and life in college and finally find her passion in biochemistry was so relatable because I've been her at one point. Also, I loved seeing her have black friends outside of her main friend group and the issue of her having her be mixed up with another black girl in her class rings true to my experience being in a PWI. I didn't like Andrew for her either. He was so obnoxious and rude.
-I was so proud of Leighton's growth this season! Seeing her own her identity and embracing change as she came out this season was very well executed! She really was a good friend to all the girls especially Kimberly when she had her procedure and it was so heartwarming seeing her call Whitney and Bela before the procedure. The fact that she had to do community service and abhorred the idea of feminism and despised being there against her will and it ended up being her second home to her and is now friends with the people there (Ginger and Tova) was so sweet to see and she really is comfortable there and I loved seeing her stand up for them against Tatum and getting out of that horrid sorority. At first, I thought Tatum was cool at first, but her behavior she displayed at the party at the Women's Center was TERRIBLE. I'm glad she broke up with her. Leighton was basically dating her former self in Season 1, and she has outgrown that, so it makes a lot of sense. I actually liked Leighton and Alicia together and seeing them reunite actually remined me why I liked them together in the first place.
-Now, Bela... Jesus Christ. The self-sabotage was REAL. Just damaging everything in her path. I sympathize with her, though. You made a good point about her being broken and trying to erase who she was when she was in middle school and high school. Don't hide those parts of yourself. It's still you regardless, so embrace it! Bela is just SUPER IMPULSIVE, selfish, and desperate to make her goals and dreams come true even if it means stepping on others (not putting her other members on Foxy on the cover, trashing her mentee's work, embarrassing Priya, etc.) or even sleeping her way to the top. That can hopefully get explored because she really does need to talk to some body because she deals with low self-esteem and probably has trauma from being sexually assaulted by Ryan that hasn't even been addressed.
-Kimberly is my girl!! I'm not happy with how she handled the Canaan situation, but I respect her for breaking up with Jackson as soon as she caught feelings for Canaan instead of resorting to being unfaithful. I love her so much! Out of all the girls, I relate to her the most because of how awkward, sheltered, naïve, and geeky she is, but she honestly is so sweet and she KNOWS how to keep a beautiful man on her arm (i.e. Nico and Jackson). A lot of people did not like Kimberly and Canaan being together, but there hints planted throughout the show and I am not mad at them being together. HOWEVER, she went about it ALL WRONG! It is basic girl code to NOT let a man get in the way of their friendship! Kimberly should've done the mature thing and talked to Whitney FIRST BEFORE she went after Canaan because hello?! That was her ex! I understand she didn't want to hurt Whitney's feelings, but if she was really her friend, she would've been able to communicate and be honest with her!
-Side note: I loved Lila, Jocelyn, and Willow and we do need MORE of them because they are hysterical! Also, I wouldn't mind seeing more of Priya in the show since she is going to Essex and she is very pretty! I think it would be interesting to see her join the group since the friend group is goin to fall apart. Overall, the show is really good is true to the college experience to me and we DEFINITELY need more episodes next season!
not gonna hold you Kimberly was kind of the worst friend on this damn show. like she keeps violating her friends and then pretending to be oblivious of what's wrong with her actions. Also how is she puling these guys her personality is funny to us watching, but like irl its annoying asf . 😐 there i said it. I fully agree with you on Bella and Whitley. Bella needs to heal and Whitley needs black people around her like her roomates are cool but her black homegirls were the real ride or dies.

I think season 2 can be summed up as we needed more episodes, for the storylines they wanna do they need to have 22 episode seasons so all these storylines don’t seem rushed and out of left field. Build it up
I think a huge reason why Leighton is liked with Tatum is also the actresses interactions off screen. Like for example Renee - who plays Leighton and is bi - left comments on Tatum's actress insta that she's fall for her IRL too.

I just don’t like that this is Kimberly’s second time choosing boys over her friends. She lied to Leighton about dating her brother. she obviously just didn’t know Leighton well enough yet to know that she would be fine w it. But she did think it would bother her and instead of making sure her new friend would be ok, she just lied instead..just like she did w Whitney who is not a “new friend” anymore. I feel like at this point it’s a pattern. Kimberly is funny for sure but I’m side eyeing.

Thank you as always for your in depth review! We agreed on a lot of the same points and I think S2 really sets the stage for so much more to come in future seasons. For Leighton it released her from all of the stress of being closeted and learning how to accept her true self and I think it'll be interesting to see where the summer takes her. I assume her and Alicia will end up long distance because Alicia is older and will graduate soon (plus the actress is on Greys Anatomy). For Bella it sets the stage for healing and redemption as she has a lot of inner work to do. No one mentions all of the pressure she feels to be successful at comedy since she's still lying to her family about her career path. She has so much loathing and sadness from people's treatment of her and being perceived as weird. I felt for her so much and girl needs lots of hugs and therapy. For Kimberly, it sets the stage for addressing her finances with her family and being confronted about the egg donation. It also addresses the rift that will soon come between the girls over this Canaan situation. Sides will definitely be chosen and I think it'll be Bella and Kimberly/ Whitney and Leighton. It'll be rough but it's so real to see. And Whitney will definitely be in her revenge era next season for sure. I sets the stage for her being petty and becoming much more harsh. She may stay in Kappa longer than we think (unfortunately) as it was shown she would even take their advice even if it torpedoes her relationship. So lots to come but this show needs more episodes and it'll be so fun to watch them get to senior year.

I'm starting to think the writers had Kimberely go for Canaan to create a schism between the girls and make a big splash at the end of the season. For me, it felt really out of character for Kimberely to be that sneaky and mean, especially when the show went out of its way to show us how caring and compassionate, she was. I don't think she has that much chemistry with Canaan, but I do think it's better than what he had with Whitney. Although, that's not saying much.
