I like the fact that Degrassi didn’t portray the black and brown girls as uneducated. Liberty and Alli had a lot of boy drama but they were both really smart and the show never took that from them.

But I like that she moved on and they were able to maintain their friendship.

I think that she is one of the most complexly written characters of the show, and that unlike so many others, her character development seems organic and believable. It’s true that they ran out of storylines for her later on which was sad, but I’d rather that than the writers giving her random, stupid, out of character storylines just to keep her involved in the story. Plus you can’t ignore the fact that she’s the only character in the show that has a song written about her (Check out Fiona Coyne by Skylar Spence). I can’t excuse the cat incident though lol.

Fiona is my favourite too! I feel like she had a rocky start but it's honestly far from the worst we've seen on Degrassi, and she grew SO MUCH. I was just glad to see her happy and (mostly) avoiding drama by the end of her time on the show

The reason seasons 10 and 11 are so long is that the first halves of the seasons aired during the summer in a soap opera format where from Monday to Friday one episode aired every day and then during the fall and spring blocks the episodes would air every Friday like before.
Yup, S10-12 aired was like my middle school soap opera. If they reboot, I hope they could go back to this format.
This format was the best! I remember getting so excited for a new episode everyday!

Not sure if you know but fun facts!:
The writers were teasing the idea of making Craig and Marco love interests before filming the 2nd season.
Both Peter and Drew were (allegedly) initially written to have intense sexual relations with Riley.
Bianca’s storyline (background) was so dark and traumatizing that the network didn’t want it to happen.
Season 9 was the original series finale and a spin-off for Manny was in the works (possibly “The LA Complex”) but the network didn’t want the series to end so they changed the formula to a soap opera; airing a new episode every Monday through Friday and it essentially served as a soft reboot and that’s why season 10 onward dropped the “The Next Generation” tagline.

I've watched the older seasons with Spinner and Liberty and JT, but nothing after the thing that happened to JT. That hurt me.

s8-10? YES such a good era, yes im biased bc s8 was the first one they aired in my country, but WOW so many iconic characters and storylines! degrassi truly was one of a kind
Agreed! I actually started watching the show at the time-I dipped once Next Class started because I knew a lot of arcs were going to be recycled and repackaged in different characters. I’m still considering watching seasons 1-7!
Coming in a little late, but just wanted to throw out my theory for why Emma and Spinner ended up together. I think they were a bad match, but I think the writers were trying recreate Emma’s parents relationship.
1. Snake and Spike were part of the same group of friends, but never friends themselves.
2. They were both part of the few kids from their class who stayed in town.
3. They reconnected as adults after they had graduated.
All of which can apply to Spinner and Emma. I think the writers thought this was a full circle idea about Emma and her mom and for Emma as her final storyline.
However, they did no actual work to earn that or make it believable and not enough time had passed for them to grow into different people who could work together like Spike and Snake had.
So like I said, still a bad storyline, but that’s always why I felt it happened and it does help me at least understand it better.
but in degrassi high spike did have a crush on spike so it wasnt as sudden
