Bruh I would like it better if they were more villanous. Like if you're going to go down this route then go all the way, it's an interesting premise for sure and it's original but they're trying to make them main characters and it's doing too much.

I feel like Gossip Girl will dedicate an episode to a character's home life, like Euphoria or Skins, but more subtly. Like in the first episode we got a lot of Julien, in the second a lot of Audrey and in the third a lot of Max.

I haven't been able to watch the show, but from what I gathered freddy and millicents mom are divorced. so for him to even keep the adoption and to stay in her life is more than many people would do. It can be a very interesting dynamic to explore

She's (secretly) friends with Carly and on relatively good terms with Freddie. It makes me happy to see healthy co-parenting between exes, some people just don't work romantically and that's valid!

First things first, Monet & Luna are the mean girls we don’t deserve. Definitely need to know more about them and their home lives. THE TEACHERS S ARE LOSERS! Grown people being sad enough to smear their students on the internet is peak pathetic. They couldn’t just put it in the group chat and level up their witty come backs? I hope by the end of this season the teachers get a 1 way ticket to a state run facility.
I feel like the main teen group on the gossip girl reboot aren’t even friends. They barely hang out and some of them don’t even like each other. Obie and Max keep to themselves, Aki and Audrey are together, Julien is always with Monet and Luna.
In the 3rd episode they made it clear that Audrey and Julien are best friends. Even gossip girl said it on Instagram. As far and Luna and Monet I think they’re only around to help out Julien with her brand I don’t necessarily think they have a bond with the rest of the friend group
I feel like ep 3 really showed that they were friends the chemistry was there for me

As someone who is a fan of the original Gossip Girl, it’s pretty much the same in the original. They are all one friend group, however each of them have someone that they are more closer with in the group then just the group as a whole. (If that makes sense lol) same with Pretty Little Lairs, all four girls are one friend group, our all off of them Spencer and Aria grew more closer to each other. And then Hannah and Emily were pretty close with each other.
I feel like as the show goes on we’ll probably see them all get closer in order to take down gossip girl

Since episode 1 Obie has been GRIMEY:
1. When he was ranting to Zoya about Julien and being mentally checked out from the relationship, I was like “Why are you ranting about your girlfriend to her little sister?”
2. Then a couple days after breaking up with Julien, he immediately pursues Zoya (again, her sister 🤢). Like you couldn’t wait (although that wouldn’t make it much better)
3. The age gap is just weird overall. He’s like 16/17 and a junior and Zoya is 14 and a freshman.
This relationship with Zoya is just a NO. Gross, weird and grimey in so many ways. I’m rooting for his downfall

I could totally see them being friends since they were small children and growing into their teen years and still hang out together even though they don’t like each other. They’ve known each other forever, their families are friends, they come from the same social class, they’re familiar and comfortable with each other and they have friends in common.
Obie being a horrible person for association is his brand because he talks all that sht about inequality but always tries to shift the blame from his family and uses all the resources whenever he wants something

Obie is an EXACT copy of Dan from the original GG like annoying, hypocritical and simply just stupid, he gives the same vibes as when Dan dated Serena then a few seasons later he goes and dates Blair pretty much Serena’s sister. And Audrey is definitely way way closer to julien than Monet + Luna. I see more of a friend relationship between the two of them than Monet + Luna.
and I love the way max plays “chuck” and how he’s transparent with his emotions from the 3rd ep bc the old chuck it took him like 4 seasons to show an inch of emotion. And ban ALL OF THOSE TEACHERS TO HELL

So glad we're on the same page, like everyone else I talk to loves Zoya and Obie together and I'm not down for it. Obie gives very privileged white rich boy with a black girl fetish and when he couldnt get that with Julian or because Julian wasn't what he "wanted" he switched to Zoya cuz why not. I seriously dont like him, he screams trouble and he's going to get Zoya into trouble too.

I hate the "our audience isn't allowed to guess the mystery person before the reveal" mentality. If you have good writing, the reveal would be satisfying whether the audience predicted it or not. Making it some random character for the sake of surprising the audience just shows that the writers were relying too much on a gimmick.
This isn’t pretty little liars, this show is solely about the drama. At least with pretty little liars we had twist and turns. Not saying it was perfect but it was interesting. We didn’t know who A was until the writer of the show wanted us to know.

I don't know why people who watched the OG Gossip Girl were being so weird about the new one. They keep acting like the original was the height of television - it never was and not only that but it could be pretty shitty at times, it was just a really over the top teen drama and that's all Gossip Girl has ever needed to be.
I agree the original was good but it wasn’t the best after season 2 season three went downhill and there is so many issues with that show but people ignore it and glamourise it.
The thing is I will never act like the OG is high art but it was always a fun crazy time and I liked that it didn't take itself so seriously and had rich kids being rich. I feel like the reboot is trying to hard and really wants to be seen as serious though I did like the newest episode.

i think luna helped zoya for that one scene because luna wanted “get out with the old and into the new” and convinced monet to drop julien bc she thought she was a sinking ship (after her and obie’s break up) but then after the little fairy god mother moment zoya didn’t really take on her advice that well and they refocused to julien again, just my take

ONLY the first season of OG Gossip Girl is good. it went straight DOWNHILL in the later seasons...Dan being GG makes not a lick of sense...coming from someone who watched the show till the BITTER END.

I watched space ninja's review of it and damn. Like idk about anyone but that shit pissed everyone off it was almost as bad as the pretty little liars ending(atrocious, the fans were seething with this one lol). Like I was annoyed too because damn it's just insulting to the audience. And it means that incel Dan was even worse then we thought he was, like he went full sociopath with that reveal and we were supposed to be like okay. Not only did it not make sense plot wise, but fuck it was just insulting.
So apparently the tea was that Serena's younger brother was supposed to be GG but some fan figured it out and it made its round online so they changed it last minutes.

Gossip girl creators really had a chance to fix the mistakes they made with the original series but they somehow committed even worse crimes the second time around
What I want for aki as a character is for us to see a backstory for why he always feels he has to see stuff from an objective standpoint and why he's always the most reasonable in a way like from a young age he was put in a position where he had to be a mediator/play into a therapist type role and why he's might put other people's feelings before his own and I want aki and max to get together so that max can teach him how to be selfish and bold and put himself first ya know? And as aki opens up and stops being so passive max and him start to like eachother more.
I haven’t watched the reboot of gossip girl and I haven’t been on Twitter bc it’s been toxic and annoying but hearing fans of the the original (which I watched and loved) complain about wokeness is weird to me bc the original book series that is all about the supposed “wokeness” the author of the books said it’s a commentary on social class and race relation clashes and using Manhattan, NYC private high school to be the backdrop for it so I’m confused. I see the OG fans are mad bc from what I’m hearing it sounds like the reboot is subtlety calling out the original’s causal racism and sloppy commentary on classism and that’s gonna ruin the glamorized image of characters like Chuck, blair and Serena. So idk but I loved your review and it making me decides to take the rest of summer before school starts back to make me watch it

as someone who watched the original GG for years I urge you to NEVER finish it - so much emotional abuse romanticized via Chuck and while the music is always good and there's some great arcs it overall was a mess.
The reboot of it is great and I'm looking forward to the things like Aki's blooming bisexuality and the sisters figuring out a relationship for themselves despite their fathers' egos keeping that from happening in their childhoods. And agreed on Monet and Luna raising Zoya's profile when she literally just wants to go to school and mind her business. If they would just LET her the public interest would dwindle faster, gossip girl or no gossip girl. Also, all them damn teachers are pathetic

I agree that the show doesn’t do a great job of explaining how and why Dan is Gossip Girl and I always HIGHLY recommend that people read the books; oh my goodness the books are GOLD! The show doesn’t even compare to the actual book series--which they couldn’t even make for TV because the CW isn’t HBO lol

In my opinion, the biggest issue with the show is the teenagers on gossip girl reboot, don’t act or behave like normal teenagers. They act like 2D charachters crafted by out of touch millenials.
In addition, the show lacks nuance and the plot is too predictable. I always feel like *something* is a little off tbh. Maybe it’s the subpar acting idk 🤷🏿♀️
My overall judgement is that it’s a decent show - not great but not absolute trash. If the writing and acting improves going forward, I think the show could be massively succesful.
If they want to make college kid drama then just do that. Why do they always make their fantasy porn or whatever the fuck with teenagers. It's getting weird. Like Riverdale weird.

Why does no one hate Zoya ? Everyone blames Obie for dating his ex’s little sister but I find Zoya repulses me with the fact that she would even consider dating obie.
She’s not my favourite but I’m cutting her some slack bc she’s a 14yr old with no friends in a new school/city being cyberbullied by influencers and the only person being kind to her is Obie, an older guy at that too. She shouldn’t date him but I feel bad for her so I won’t judge her as harshly like I will Obie. Bc he’s not facing ANY hate for breaking up with Julian to date her little sister (in the show), but the young black girl is. Wonder why

At the end of the day you don’t need to be a certain age to know hooking up with your sisters ex is wrong. Idc if they didn’t grow up together or if they’re beefing or whatever have you it’s just common knowledge that you don’t date the ex of your sibling.

I actually think they’re both wrong and no matter how bad Julien may be it doesn’t give them the right to get together. Cyber bullied or not .Sure he’s older and should know better but all i see is people hating on him and not holding her accountable at all.

I don’t believe that has anything to do with her being black, maybe it could be the female thing but that’s just how it is In real life. Women face backlash a lot more than men. I also don’t believe that was the intended point of the plot. I think they just want to create drama

I think as far as fake woke in gossip girl is Obie being critical of his own privilege when the whole point of gg is to showcase obnoxious rich kids😭😭. Plus, the creator Joshua Saffran said on Twitter that the insults and plot wouldn’t be misogynistic like the original gg was, even though that was what made Blaire iconic like..

I really liked the new gossip girl, and I think it's because I just finished OG gossip girl, so I really remember how tiring it was. The first season was great. Serena and Dan were not. It went downhill and so did they. That's why I loved the new concept, but the new gossip girl needs a little fine-tuning, but in my opinion, it's going great so far.
I agree and the new GG fashions are way better. I want more of their parents like the OG GG, Obie’s Mother and Ali’s Father were epic.
The iCarly reboot the first reboot show from Disney/Nick that I’ve genuinely enjoyed. It’s really fun and gives feels of the old show but also good elements of the new

the gossip girl reboot started REALLY rough specially with the acting... but this third episode was great and the show is really picking up but they gotta change who is actual gossip girl because this is tired

Honestly I didn't notice it. To me the acting was OK and I agree episode 3 was the best so far.
I only watched the first season of the original Gossip Girl and I was kind of indifferent to it, but I think that’s just cause there were no black people in it cause the reboot is my favorite thing ever 🤩.
Now the fifth I think it's the fifth season isn't the best but it does have Tika Sumpter as Raina Thorpe and she's kind of a big character that season

I didn’t watch the reboot yet (and I don’t want to). But based on what I’m hearing about it, they should have went for the Pretty Little Liars route if you know what I mean. If you want to have adults torturing kids, you need to commit and really give us evil

I’m confused by people that don’t like the Gossip Girl reboot it’s a MESS but like…that’s the point? It’s delivering all these ridiculous tropes in semi unique and rather interesting ways, it’s a really fresh look at a similar and nostalgic concept but it’s executed well with the actors, script and show quality. As far as teen dramas go this is pretty A tier for me rn and we are only on episode 3. Idk it’s wild but fun but that’s exactly what Gossip Gril OG was lol

Luna and Monet are trying to take Zoya down since she’s dating Obie and without Obie Julien is losing followers and Zoya is gaining more followers .
But Zoya isn’t trying to be an influencer AT ALL, she even put her account to private last ep, she’s isn’t a threat to Julian in the slightest. It just doesn’t make sense to me

i thought it was interesting how, that first episode, audrey was all like "we're friends, we don't lie to each other" blah blah blah but nothing about their friend group gives off the impression that they even like each other all that much lmao. but overall, i think the cast kinda suffers from a lack of chemistry, and i think thats why their friend group comes off like this
No bc why did ppl think that julien not being mean didn’t make sense, she’s supposed to the counterpart to serena, who was the nice one in the og gg, except julien is actually cool and not annoying asf. Honestly I think most of the characters served enough for their og counter part, we got Obie that’s literally just Dan except rich but somehow more annoying, we got Luna and Monet that are literally just the two sidekicks that blair had except they’re not just the ethnic token characters and their funny, we got julien whose supposed to be Serena but less annoying than Serena and actually likable, we got max that’s basically chuck except not a r🅰️pist and doesn’t look like an Ed Sheeran version of a bratz doll, we got Zola thats supposed be Jenny but not unbearable and annoying as hell, we got aki that’s like Nate except aki is cuter, and we got Audrey whose supposed to be like blair except she doesn’t terrorize the masses like blair did, honestly the closest thing Audrey is to blair is the mommy issues plot and her face, cus she looks like leighten meister with a blonde wig
