When Kayla didn’t want to kiss a male model because she had been abused and was afraid of men and they basically told her just to deal with it was sickening.
I wish there were actually consequences for people’s actions but no, they just cashed in their huge checks and moved on and in the grand scheme of things nobody cares.
Kayla even said, too, she never told anyone, she said her own girlfriend and mother didn't even know, so man, can you believe being her girlfriend or her mom and watching that, and then seeing them forcing her to kiss a male model???
Mara L so if a model doesn’t want to kiss a man because of sexual preference and from past sexual abuse she should just take the L and do it because it’s a job?
I think that Tyra was so colorist and mean to dark skin girls because she has a deep rooted weird obsession with Naomi.
I used to love watching ANTM as a kid but now that I’m older and watching this video I’m realizing how toxic that show was. Naomi Campbell knew what was up. Now I understand why she didn’t like Tyra.
Antm was her way to put other black girls down to show how she is The "black girl supreme".. especially if they were dark skinned, she made a point to reduce their existence to their skin color. It always rubbed me the wrong way.
@@kamie1242 not to mention when she told a dark skinned black girl that her gap was unappealing and clients wouldn’t want to book her and proceeded to make her get it closed then seasons later she and other judges were raving and loving when a white girl had one...
remember cycle 12 (?) when a girl with epilepsy had to walk down a runway with bright flashing lights, being scared she was going to have a seizure, she ended up going home that episode too.
But runways have flashing lights so I think someone with epilepsy will not survive in the modeling world anyway.
Namisa Zulu theres a difference between camera flashes and strobe lights
@@namisazulu1372 everyone's disability is different, for some people their epilepsy is only triggered by strobe lights (which is what there was). for others it can be triggered by a camera flash or a tv screen... its kinda ableist to comment abt how someone with epilepsy "will not survive" modeling just bc of ur preconceived notion.
As someone with epilepsy, this really pissed me off. Seizures are exhausting and to put someone in that situation is just disgusting
i’ll never forget when they made nyle, who was completely deaf, do a photoshoot in the dark, so he couldn’t see or hear. then got angry at him for being confused.
or how they did their first music video challenge in that cycle and he had to put in a ridiculous amount of effort to get everything on beat
E omg yes that kind of broke my heart, nyle was so unproblematic and sweet I love him
Samantha Williams same. I saw those episodes in some UA-cam compilation video.
Or how she wants to give them "icy blonde" and ALWAYS turns out yellow ... like have you heard of toner !?
omg, the girl who got the flesh eating bacteria had the BRASSIEST "ice blonde" hair.
Brad Mondo has entered the chat
I think that they aren't actually bleaching the hair light enough to go icy blonde in a lot of cases. Going from super dark hair to icy blonde is hard to do in a single day. That said, if they can't do it, they shouldn't promise it. They should go for a different shade, even if it isn't blonde.
Sage Grace and these are supposed to be “professional, world renowned stylists” Chile🙄 lol
Ashley Williams that was my issue with Brittney. She had very dark hair. They knew better than trying to lift her hair that light in one sitting. But Tyra don’t care, she wants what she wants
remember the horrible wig that hurt the girl so much, but they told her to suck it up. IT WAS HORRIBLE
I remember there was one episode where a black girl had to do a perfume or something photoshoot with a French or Spanish guy and the guy basically said he didn’t like black girls and he can’t act like he liked her etc. She told Tyra and jay and they basically dismissed her and told her to get over it. Her picture turned out bad and I think she got sent home smh
They beat Jaeda down so much. They cut all of her hair and gave her a Halle Berry look (which, by the way, she absolutely rocked it and looked amazing), but she hated her short hair and every episode, you could tell how insecure she was. They kept that girl around way too long, just to humiliate and demean her and exploit how insecure she was
@@bundollish she was horrible because the makeover made her so insecure. She never owned it and it played a major role on her low self esteem.
Judges be making fun the contestants, and when a contestant starts defending themselves they be like "you gotta learn how to take criticize"
I remember at the time you could be scouted on the street or send your picture (paper post) to a modelling agency or visit sciuting days of big modelling agencies. ANTM was NOT 'the only way for someone poor or or whatever to become a model. The real modelling world actually often looked down on the ANTM reality tv models and ex ANTM contestants testified to that.
Exactly! These judges act like GODS like they could do no wrong! And the girls were always the problem.
Tyra makes every darkskin woman she encounters pay for how Naomi Campbell treated her.
@@lamb9770 yes its well documented bc the industry tokenism to black models

the way they shamed elise for wanting to be a doctor and not a model........
@@didostempest2966 People did the same to me when I said I wanna study maths.
To be fair, Elise had no business being there- it’s a modeling competition that can help you further your career. She entered knowing that she wanted to be a doctor and not a model. It’s been awhile since I watched the season but I’m pretty sure she even admitted on camera that she was just trying to win the show for laughs. It wasn’t serious to her- it didn’t mean anything to her. Because she entered and was accepted she took the opportunity from another girl who actually would have wanted to be there to become a model. I think her entering the competition in the first place was their issue with her wanting to be a doctor and not a Model.
@@IllHandleThis disagree. It's a reality show, it's not that big a deal. Modeling is a way to make money, not your entire life. It's a good idea to have an education to fall back on.

AAANNNDD... Melrose was honest about being selfconcious about her age... the next episode they had to pose as freak shows (ie. elephant man, like you mentioned) and melrose was given the old woman with the young body lol Tyra is straight up psycho
They made Keenyah, who was struggling with weight, pose as an elephant and model the sin gluttony
@@aldricmartinez-olson7509 that was definitely the most obvious set-up in regards to the photo shoots…the producers, creative directors and Tyra were ruthless.
The first girl you mentioned was Isis. She was their first transgender contestant. One of the few successful models to come out of this show but they exploited her too. Having the other models ask her uncomfortable questions about her genitals and lie to her about having help eith her hormone injections andnnot having that displayed on TV.
my least favorite thing even when i was younger is when there would be black girls especially with darker skin that had natural long hair and they were forced to get their hair cut. it always made me sad because of the stigma that black girls were “bald headed” so the fact that tyra would make them cut their hair that they grew for YEARS always had me heated
Same they always cut the darkskin girls hair or gives her a super long weave so annoying
Do y’all remember when they would basically be threatening Danielle that she was gonna get cut if she didn’t lose her southern accent? But cycles later there was a white girl with a southern accent and they just ate it up. They absolutely loved it..
Lyric N. And they made Danielle close her gap and then in later cycles made a white girl open hers more!!!!
Jessica Carter They sure did. Disturbing. Tyra was bullying the hell out of those girls.
Tyra dogged Nik big eyes but was in love with that big eyed white girl lol wow....
“If Tyra Banks told me I needed to get a mullet, it’s lights out..... and it’s not lights out for me” 💀💀💀💀
How the other models treated Isis when they found out she was trans
Them allowing a racist homophobe on the show
Them making Yaya apologize to a freaking hat
That damn Tiffany episode
Was a dude calling Winnie Harlow panda mentioned?
Why the hell are half of the black models just given weave or shaved head
Why the hell is the weave always messed up???? (Molly, the girl who sat in a chair for 8 freaking hours, and another model because they did hers too tight)
That horse hair Tyra made up
A model got her hair cut short, they wanted it shorter, she refused and was sent home
Tyra telling a BLACK model her gap wasn't marketable and criticized it yet Tyra was apparently fine with shredding a white girl teeth
Them showing Shandi's ENTIRE conversation with her boyfriend about her cheating
A girl who was a Christian getting pressured to pose nude even though she wasn't comfortable
Oh & you forgot: All of these girls signing contracts & selling out for the potential of fame & fortune.
That whole thing with Shandi was even shadier than most people realize. The contestants aren’t allowed to have cell phones and producers are strict as hell about when and for how long they can be on the house phone.
Shandi would have needed special permission for that unscheduled call. And from everything I’ve read they normally would never have agreed, but they let her because it was high drama. They didn’t even restrict how long she was on there either. They broke all their own rules so they could film that devastating moment.
Fr! But also when (I forgot her name) was about to leave the show and instead of her crying she smiled and tried making everyone feel better which was so sweet of her but then Tyra got mad called her disrespectful and yelled at her for like 3 minutes like girl wwwwwhhhhhaaaaaaaaaaaatttttt
Tyra gets on my last nerve 😂
"let me take a sip of water before i get into racism"
WHAT A LINE-
There are lawsuits against ANTM because they were keeping the models anxiety meds away from them. And in the modeling industry, the agencies do NOT respect models who have been on the show. It usually hurts their careers.
Paula Godley-Mack 1. I had no idea they were withholding their medication. That’s insane!
2. I remember one girl won and the next year I saw her modeling on forever21s website. Now forever21 was way more popular back then but it was still odd to see a “top model” just posing on their website like any other girl. It wasn’t even a campaign or sponsorship.
OMG yes! A handful of girls who won didn’t even get the modeling contract they were promised. They aren’t taken seriously because it was a TV show & people knew all the things Tyra & others were saying were trash. Drastically changing those girls hair was unnecessary because models usually wore wigs & extensions.
the first girl on season 1 who won did not get ANY money or a contract that she was promised. tyra ignored her
@@breonawarren1507 yeah ive been watching cycle 22 and when tyra says the prizes is says that the top model "may have a chance" at being signed w next management 😬😬

Remember when the show generalized Asian culture by putting the Asian model in a Kimono which is Japanese with dragons in the background which is Chinese. I was so confused when I saw that even as a child.
I know, right!
I find that Americans tread on eggshells around black people...not trying to offend them...but Americans treat Asians like garbage!
I was shocked when i visited America. We went to a "Thai restaurant" which was selling sakè?! PF Changs is a hodge-podge of many Asian culture. When my Vietnamese friend visited USA, the locals just kept calling her "Chinese", even when she would correct them? Most Americans seem to think all Asians are Chinese?!

Let's not forget how Tyle flexes the fact that she worked hard being a black woman in the modeling industry when she has a thin nose and upper lip, wears her hair straight wih highlights 99% of the time and has hazel eyes, often photoshopped to look green, or straight up enhanced with colored lenses. Not to mention she was ALWAYS photoshopped for her skin to look lighter than it really is.
She isn't a big example of how black girls can succeed in a modeling career as much as she says. She is a good example of how the modeling industry is so racist that one of the biggest black influences shares most of her features with caucasian models, but with a dark skin ("And lets make sure it is shiny and very light when we edit, shall we?" -The agencies that worked with her).
Btw, I know she actually worked hard asf to succeed in her life and to be as big as she is, and I totally respect that, but come on. Look at a single picture of that woman and te me she is the right person to represent ALL african american women out there. And this is totally NOT her fault. It's the same thing with Naomi Scott as Jasmine in Disney's live action Alladin: She wasn't the perfect choice for Jasmine, she was simply the whitest non-white actress they could find.
I mean models are supposed to be prettiest people lol, they aren’t supposed to represent the “average black girl”. Because average isn’t pretty. Do you even know what modelling is?
@@blackmenwomensuperpower305 So, the prettiest black girl is one that shares most of her physical features with Caucasians? That is the complaint people have. I remember when Tyra found out one of the contestants wanted to use their modeling career to fund her own business then sent her home that same week. Yet Tyra used her modeling career to fund MULTIPLE tv shows and personal projects
Right! Like in cycle 22, the top 5 contestants literally had to do a business pitch and show that they could become an entrepreneur
alexangel Tyra used her modeling career to launch a multi level marketing scheme. And she used Top Model to promote it to her young, devoted audience
The judges were also pissed bc there was a girl who wanted to go to med school and be a doctor so she wasn’t “dedicated” to modeling but they were torn bc she was really really good..... p sure they sent her home. they try to spread the message that models are more than their bodies.... yet they send a model home who’s also very dedicated to her studies? I cried because they literally didn’t have any heart towards Kayla. They had this “just suck it up, this is modeling, you have to do things that make you uncomfortable. Would you say this to your photographer/brand that you’re posing for that you’re uncomfortable. Then you will no longer be casted by this brand.”mentality. And they should’ve made an exception for her. After all, they kept someone on another season who didn’t even do a photo shoot on cycle 16.

I think the black girl either won or was in the top three at the end!

Allison lowkey is the least problematic contestant in antm. If im gonna be honest.

Me too. The show had no crazy antics like ANTM. Her and the other judges were good, even though Naomi was just as rude.
Remember in cycle 7 when Jaeda walked in confident and the told her she had the face structure of a man so they CUT OFF HER HAIR (one of her favorite features) and the entire season told her she looked like a man.

I felt so bad for Jaeda. While I think she was stunning with short hair, if she's not happy with it, then that's all that matters.
And she also had to kiss a guy for the Covergirl shoot who said he didn't want to kiss her because she was black. Her commercial wasn't the best, but it was because the guy was racist and unprofessional. It's not only that she never had to do it (the dangerous stuff), no, she flat-out REFUSES to do nude shoots. The hypocrisy is really strong with her.
Yes!! She only wanted other people to suffer for her own entertainment. No wonder why a lot of people who have known her are now coming out and revealing the truth about her.

or tyra saying she never modeled nude but would send girls home if they refused to do a nude shoot, LIKE COME ON TYRA!! you’re exploiting these girls!!
I also hated how they always said that the more introverted, reserved girls had no personality. Like??? Are you for real? Most people in the industry wanna work with people they ''vibe'' with. They don't want a clown, who's loud and ready to do every embarrassing thing people tell them to do. The fact that the show said multiple times that quiet people have no personality bothered me so much. How does that make sense? Especially when Tyra is up there on her pedestal preaching about positivity and empowering and inclusivity when she can't even accept the fact that some people are introverted and therefore will not scream and fake a giggle just to look like they are a ''fun'' person. I loved that Jeana Turner finally pointed that out in cycle 24.
Another thing I had in mind was that Tyra herself would never do all these crazy challenges and then she would be appalled that models couldn't idk for example resist gravity when she made them walk down a building? Girl, you couldn't do it either who are you kidding?
I agree, Gigi Hadid isn't super loud and out there, they're their to walk and pose how the client wants, not to show themselves and personality, it's to sell a product and make it look appealing. Kendall Jenner isn't loud, legit almost no popular models are

Torie DeVaughn and tyra sat there and criticized her with a damn Afro on her head. Disgraceful
Desi I was going to say...Tyra had a big ol’ Afro on her head telling Yaya that her look was too Afro-centric smh.
ANTM tried to make modeling look way harder and more serious than it is. Tyra spent 24 cycles tormenting teenagers and young adults trying to prove her career meant something
I can’t believe the stuff in this show was legally allowed. It wouldn’t be accepted nowadays
Yeah! I remember how as a foolish kid watching that show I got the idea that modeling was this superhero job that only the toughest, smartest amazing people could do...when it actually is 99.9 percent about how good you look. I was an actual model, I can say this.
I dislike Winnie Harlow for other reasons but 1) When the photographer kept calling her a panda and nobody said anything and then got mad when she asked not to be called that. 2) She said the show did nothing for her career- She was not wrong. Most of these girls who go on here don’t get jobs and contracts because of this show. It’s reality TV and half the things they were saying was not true in the modeling world. The hair cutting and hair dying drastically just doesn’t happen. If they want a blonde girl, they will get blonde girls not brown haired girls and tell them to dye their hair. And even if they did, the model can refuse. In the early seasons the winners did not get the modeling contract they were promised. Top model did nothing but make some of these girls known and not enough to be models except a handful
Exactly! Looking back this whole show was just SCAM. Nothing authentic. It doesn’t even live up to its title. Shows like “Fear Factor” DID live up to the title. ANTM was one of a survival show. Not becoming a model show

" if I suffered , so should others " is sadly a really rampant mind state
How can you say sexism!!!?? If anything the modelling industry is sexist against men. There’s a major pay gap and even Tyra addresses that, male models make nowhere near as much as female models. It’s a female dominated industry, so sexism how?

It never happened. The meme is a shot of Ty-Ty from panel, but she wasn’t talking to anyone about babies or modeling. She was talking to a guest judge about something completely different. But it DOES sound like something she might say. Which is crazy in and of itself.
Loved this video!!!
I saw some earlier seasons and the lack of care for someone’s mental health is CRAZY and UNACCEPTABLE. They manipulate them to make them feel bad about they’re ailments. I remember in one season, this girl was African and in the challenge was to choose a hat and style it. She didn’t choose the “Arican hat” which wasn’t even authentic and one of the judges criticized her for not choosing it. And another judge said why do you always have to prove your “African-ness”. This was so disrespectful and for speaking up against this blatant racism. They made her apologize to the person that picked the inaccurate African hat.
Ah, I believe that was Yaaya who is killing it now. Buuuut to be fair, she did totally snap and go off about how the African hat was so cheaply made and tacky so I DO understand them having to reprimand her a bit for that. Can't be talkin mad shit about a piece of clothing while you're in a fashion competition (even though thinking back on it now, it very well may have been a piece of crap hat they found in a thrift store or something)
or with cassie they were "sympathetic" to her eating disorder but allowed the designer to call her fat and then make her go home like the same week???
@@JMSayler I disagree about yaya “snapping” and “going off”. The ONLY ones going off were the insensitive judges. If you watch that scene, you’ll see yayas voice was breaking as she was about to cry. one girl had Severe food poisoning. shaking, crying, could barely walk. had to go the emergency room and faked being better to get released from the hospital & show up to judging. she was still very obviously sick. if she hadn't shown up, the judges agreed that they would eliminate her.
That I believe with Adrienne. She also said they starved them on the show..

AND this show is AWFUL AWFUL, for actual girls who want to go into modelling, they learn that being a good model is to completely sacrifice your own body and safety, and to completely let go of yourself as an actual human being who is deserving of being treated right!
Amen! I’m not saying Tyra didn’t have it hard becoming a model but she STILL got there without going on a reality show to be humiliated.

That pyramid chart thing with the photos they used to do made me sick! And I was also very young
@@suburbangrl417 same even being young how they treated her never sit right with me
Suggestion: please add pictures when you talk about someone. It’s hard to remember the contestants from just their names
@@spiceupyourlife7755 if you're gonna make an informative video, add context. this video wouldn't be so long if she actually edited it more.
i will never forgive the way the girls treated Heather in cycle 9 just bc she had Aspergers,, like yall are sick and break my heart this beautiful girl doesnt need that
I forgot about the “ethnicity” photo shoot from cycle 4. Tbh I only remembered the one from cycle 13. Kinda sad to see how they were able to to this shit twice
Holy shit I didn’t even know they did it twice I had only ever heard of the cycle 4 one wtf
I'm 100% sure Tyra Banks was the inspiration for Chris McClain from total drama
in season 7 there was this girl Jaeda (i think it was spelled this way) i swear they did her so WRONG! She was a high school beauty queen or sum and they said she was too "pretty", so what did miss Banks do? give her a "Halle Berry" cut so basically cut off ALL her hair. Then what do they do? Eliminated her because she looks TOO FUCKING MASCULINE. Y'all already done crushed her whole confidence and now yall tell her she looks like a man lmfao. And not only that but she was black (of course lol, since they always do black girls wrong) and had to do a video with a white male model who said "he don't want to kiss a black girl". Of course they forced her to kiss him cause why not lmfao
When Tyra ruined a mv made for Allison about her *dead* father and make it so weird and irrelevant
Or when she told Allison to suck it up when she had an issue to open her eyes in the sun the girl was in pain
When they pushed a girl into hypothermia and then told her u should have told us
Just the whole weird challenges, black facing just to make fun of the girls and the drama just yikes
With the “house being dirty” thing, the bad girls club girls have spoken out about that producers don’t let them have cleaning supplies just to cause drama with cleaning. I’m sure this show does it too
@@DeeL3Well The bad girls on BGC always fucked up their own houses outta rage and stupidity lol
D. L. They did in the beginning but after the bleach incident with season 7 i think or one of the sooner they were threatening to pour chemicals on the girls or put it in their contact case
D. L. Yup season 7 of BGC Shelly put eye makeup remover in Stasi’s contact solution and Angie poured out her bleach.
Let’s not forget that angelea was crowned all star winner and then they stripped her of the crown because they found out she was a prostitute for literally less than a year way before the show aired and then had the nerve to give the crown Lisa and not Allison
Edit: her whole story line was about how she grew up in poverty and how the judges are so proud of her and then fucking take away her win after she actually tried to make money?
Sadie Eliza
Yeah I was so pissed about that. But they always look down on girls who have been prostitutes or even strippers.
I never understood how Lisa won.
And on another note they robbed Allison twice😒
That’s so disgusting; imagine thinking modelling isn’t selling your body- and quite frankly is “worse” than any sex work tbh
Sidney Barnes Tyra has a history of treating sexual work. She disavowed the first winner after she posed for Playboy, looked down on most women associated with any form of work involving nudity and berated Jeana for her past. But she never misses a chance for a sleazy nude shoot.
They tried to cover it up by saying she posted in Facebook about who won on ANTM and she got disqualified
The girl they eliminated on the same day of her high school graduation....that was DIRTY 😒
•multiple judges throughout multiple seasons using the transphobic t slur
•having a homophobic judge ( rob evans on cycle 20) who consistently was the only judge to score the only gay male of the cycle lower and only referred to him as a man when he “looked masculine in his photos”
•having a shoot where they mixed stereotypes of different ethnicities and put the models in blackface
•tyra telling a dark skinned contestant that her gap was undesirable and made her get it closed only for her to rave over a white contestant’s gap cycles later
•basically telling a victim of sexual assault that she needs to get passed it when she was hysterical over having to pose with and kiss a male model (and airing the conversation when the girl literally said that she has never told anyone, not even her mom knew)
•johnny wujek (their creative consultant) telling a male contestant who wasn’t coming off as “masculine” in his photos that he understands that it’s hard because “we [gay men] all have that inner black woman inside of us”
I still remember how this photographer was calling a girl with vitaligo “panda” and she said she wasn’t confortable with that name and he FLIPPED OUT and got so mad and started saying a lot of dumb shit and then they made her apologize to him.. like, what?!
I remember that, I was so pissed by that. The photographer had no right to call her by such an insulting name. Like WTH
the WORST bit about the bald/half-shaved makeovers was that most shoots required them to wear wigs or extensions anyways !! so truly what was the reason!! also, that viral clip of Tyra yelling at Tiffany was never funny to me after I got the context of why she was yelling at her. I literally cringe everytime I see it.
@@Taes.Traits basically she was mad she wasn't crying and weeping about getting eliminated. You could tell she was over the whole thing.
@@cortneypruitt Ah, she was mad that the girl wasn't kissing her ass anymore.
fr, plus (it was obviously cut) but apparently tyra said 'you can go back home and sleep on your mattress with your baby' or something similar to that which i believe lol i think the whole thing was longer and harsher but, of course, cut because God forbid tyra looks like a monster!!!!!! because she doesnt already!
Tiffany was literally taking rejection in her stride and trying to stay strong and despite always talking about getting a thick skin to rejection, Tyra starts screaming at her like wtf
You're right about the hair. I remember Nenna... She was African and beautiful... I knew they were going to shave her head the second I saw her because they love to stereotype people.
You can’t spell Tyrant without Tyra!
Tyra has said that she was a bully in school and then she had her growth spurt and then she got bullied. And then she talks about being bullied in the modeling world. So I guess this show was her being a bully because she has the fame and power, she’s the real top model so she took it out on these poor men and woman. It’s sad cause she could’ve really taught these people how to be successful in the modeling work and how to deal with the actually real hardships you go through as a model.
Actually, she said she was bullied in elementary school and was called "Olive Oil" because she was skinny. She became a bully in high school.
She was a bully in high school, I don't believe she changed her ways, even as a model. She clearly has all the symptoms of daddy issues.
Winnie Harlow who was in one of the male model cycles and has vitiligo was demonized for telling the art director that she didn't like being called "panda." Because it made HIM feel bad that she TOOK IT THE WRONG WAY.
He was extremely disrespectful. Why would you even give a girl with vitiligo the nickname of a animal
*trigger warning* I noticed that when tyra asks the models questions it's always. "I heard you've been through allot, tell us about that."or "tell us about the tragedy in your life" and then she'll push them to tell her what happened to them.Season nine episode one, she basically tells a contestant to tell her what bad things happened to her. Turns out she was molested and raped, and now the whole world knows this woman's business. In the same episode Tyra also told one contestant that noone liked her and that that her behavior stemed from her failed relationship and issues with her mother(the girl was in tears and told tyra her mother was a crackhead). Honestly watching this shit again, most of it has nothing to do with modeling!
right? and Tyra would always put on this sociopathic fake caring tone, like some mean girl pretending to be your friend so she can use the stuff against them later. (next episode.)
I need a pt 2, Tyra made a girl get her gap surgically widened in the makeover episode....Girl
A WHITE girl nonetheless, and meanwhile seasons before made Danielle (a black girl) get her gap nearly closed.... and I oop-
@@lindseyb59 as someone who has gaps in their teeth I would much rather have a gap closed than having one widened.
@@merricat3025 I probably would too, but it's another example of a certain feature being "ugly" on a black woman, but "cute" and "unique" on a white woman.
I HAVE BEEN WAITING- THE BLACKFACE, SHAVINGS CRYING WOMEN’S HAIR OFF, AND SO MUCH MORE BS
yo every single time the episode where they cut people's hair literally made me cry (and I was like 7/8), I'm surprised no one ever fucking swung at her. I would've
Sam Miller Do they NOT realize that shorter hair would create less versatility ESPECIALLY for models???? Of course not they only wanted to destroy the girl’s confidence and their ponytails. I hated those moments when I watched those episodes because I know how much women value their hair even as a kid. Also they literally could just use wigs or weave instead of shaving them bald but it was just a test to see if they would do it for entertainment let’s be honest.
@@dandelion6617 literally!!! and she knew she dead ass had no idea how those girls would look until they were done!! there is such significance of your hair when you are a woman, as there should be. Tyra just wanted to humiliate them
The moment sis popped off with "Black hair is unprofessional" I was gone. She has that vibe where she wouldn't bat an eye at a white girl with dry, unhealthy hair with split ends everywhere; but say something to a black woman with healthy, well taken care of hair... 🙄 But maybe that's just me.
i’m pretty sure tyra just did the whole “college cycle” in cycle 19 because she wanted to say that she went to harvard
holland thompson ... for a non-degree certificate program. I went to Wikipedia to read with my own eyes that she’d gone to Harvard and it took A LOT of scrolling to finally find it
Well, at the time she was just graduated from Harvard. And ironically, there was a girl from Harvard who quit the competition because she refused to do makeover.
none of this would happen in actual modeling. You work with your photographers. Maybe Tyra isn’t as powerful then she thinks if she thinks any of these things happen to models.
Tyra let her success go to her head obviously. She had too much power and abused it
I will never forget when they sent Danielle (winner of Cycle 5 or 6 I think, also a dark skin woman) to "etiquette classes" and told her she would never be successful if she didn't get rid of her "ghetto accent" which in reality was just a Georgia accent. Ridiculous and blatant colorism.
The girls actually get groped several times on the show and the ones who don’t complain always get rewarded. In the first cycle the one that got groped in Paris and didn’t complain to anyone is who won. If they complain they try to use it as a way to kick them off. I honestly think they’re planting these situations to test them.
They are. It’s sick and I hate the whole “this business is hard and cruel”... like NO, stop excusing shitty behavior from people. We’re all of the same species. I understand wanting something to look a certain way but there’s ways to go about it. Plus there’s always better planning and earlier planning but come on humans... wtf
They were told what to do and what to say. I watched a video by one of the contestants, Jaena(don't know how she spells her name) who revealed what actually went on in the house. If your personality wasn't striking, they'd find a one for you. That's why there was always that talkative girl, the bitch, the quiet one and everything else in between...
Grooming. More will be expected later. It’s a test to see if they can be compromised.
Ok can I just say I’ve been modeling my entire life, I’ve traveled the world, worked for international companies, and I’ve done just about every fashion week and this show is not how it is at all.
The only hair change I’ve ever had was Pureology made me go from blonde to gold. My agency also slowly highlighted it back. They do a lot with your makeup and they do tease the shit out of your hair and there is some damage but I’ve never ever had my hair cut or shaved. I’ve also never met someone who has had their hair cut or shaved. You are also given all job details before you take it so it a dye job is in there you can turn it down.
Jobs usually request a redhead if they went a redhead. They aren’t going to get a blonde and then make her hair red. This show is 1,000% not how it is
That's not the point of the make-over though. They don't change every girl's hair before every photoshoot. They do the make-over a) to give them a more unique look and b) bc it's a trash TV show and they need drama. Regardless, I believe you when you say antm is not like the real industry lol
Some supermodels get their hair completely cut off though. Like Adut Akech.
Not to mention, the show lost ALL its credibility pretty soon after the first seasons and no one took the girls seriously after their cycle.
This is why I liked The Face UK more, cause they gave them proper modeling advice during the whole show.
Also try Britain's Next Top Model (in some seasons was Britain and Ireland's Next Top Model). Still some drama moments of course, but I felt the makeovers were slightly more realistic, and if a girl was upset, they wouldn't just tell them to get 'over it'. I remember Elle Mcpherson sitting with girls, and explaining why they were doing a certain hairstyle, because they truly believed it would bring out her facial features, etc. And I found the photo shoots more realistic - I remember one for I think Lipton Tea, or something similar - there's a representative of the company there, letting them know what they want for the shoot, and they're getting helped with poses and things.
Just having the shoots be for actual companies gave it a much more realistic approach.
Side note: anyone else remember on the Tyra banks show when she brought out Naomi Campbell and she basically just talked about how Naomi bullied her and Tyra just played victim and made Naomi apologize to her. She didn’t even let Naomi speak. She just went on and on about herself and when Naomi said that’s not how she remembered it Tyra just spoke over her.
That’s what it seemed like to me. But she’s dark so she gets a pass I guess
@Hayat I don't know what happened between Naomi and Tyra, but I've heard several black models who have had good experiences with Naomi Campbell and consider her a mentor. Most models have nothing good to say about Tyra Banks and the usual reason is that she is fake. I've also noticed that Tyra Banks always finds a way to make everything about her and her problems.
I’m low key glad Instagram modeling made this type of modeling go down the drain because say whatever you want about IG models, they’re pretty diverse.
Also they manage themselves and fashion companies dont decide who can be models.
there’s a lot wrong with instagram and instagram models but at least you don’t see any of them getting told to do blackface 🤨
@@someonecalledmaya9985 blackfishing. They tan and wear dark foundation to appear mixed/exotic
MyaFigs her point was they’re not being told and forced to do it... but yes, dark tanning and blackfishing is a prooooblem😭
Someone called Maya ive legit seen ppl do blackface on ig and call it “the art of makeup” 😒
Who else remembers when Winnie asks that guy to stop calling her panda as a nickname because she finds it offensive because she had vitiligo. And he pretty much blames her for how she’s feeling and got really mad at her?!
Like that was insane
Let's not forget Jenascia, who overslept in cycle two. Although it was fully her responsibility, SOMEONE could have woke her up. Producer, cameraman, contestant, someone! 🤦♀️
Also in cycle 5 how they cut Cassandra's hair off. Looked cute/edgy but then wanted it even shorter which would have looked so bad. So she said No then they told her to go home. so she did got her long hair back and dyed it back to dark and THEN she got modeling jobs and acting jobs and ended up MARRYING Stephen Amell ( guy who plays Green Arrow on Arrow ) . Just saying.
That season was so weird, that was the season they were like: “You all need a personal style. You are preppy. You are punky. You are mod.” And Cassandra was like, what is that even? It feels just as weird as the criticism that the girls need to “have a personality”, and preferably cultivate one in the next 4 days or you’re out.
I felt so bad for Cassandra, but at least she's gone on to better things
Actually as someone who did some modeling and know celebrity makeup artists and who also interned at a modeling agency, I can tell you ANTM NEVER helped ANYONE on a path to becoming a model and definitely a supermodel. Winnie Harlow was correct when she said ANTM had NOTHING to do with her becoming a supermodel. The most ANTM will do is help you become a TV personality. Actually knowing you were on ANTM could hurt you. And Tyra Banks is not liked that much in the modeling industry. First and foremost Tyra is a business woman and ANTM is one of her most successful businesses. Her brand is fake niceness.
@@merricat3025 yes I heard about that. That is NEXT level scamming. Well Jay is now coming out and telling just how awful Tyra was to him and he and she were close prior friends. Anyone that dumps someone by phone has a very cold heart.

okay but remember that time in cycle 10 when they did a shoot pretending to be homeless people and one of the girls (i think it was marvita) got really emotional about it because she had been homeless at one point in her life, and then tyra says, "i know what you mean because i was homeless for a day for my talk show" like ??????? she really did that huh
also i always found the first episode of the season SO uncomfortable to watch. the worst was when those girls had travelled all that way to achieve their dream, then got told they weren't good enough, were filmed SOBBING their hearts out and THEN if that wasn't enough in a few of the cycles they had to sit there and WATCH THE OTHER GIRLS who had gotten through!!
Yes! I remember that was so stupid. Tyra said the subject of homelessness was very "close" to her because she was homeless for one day for her show 😂😂 I couldn't believe she said that with a straight face
That’s like me saying to a deaf person, “yeah like I totally get you because I sometimes don’t hear my mom when she calls me.” Like wtf.

I'm a woman and I have alopecia, when my hair fell out I broke down over it, it was at my peak of rock bottom and I found a bald spot on the back of my head and I broke down. I agree so much, hair means so much to people and it shouldn't be flippantly fucked with by other people. Love ur channel btw
Another moment that NO ONE talks about: late in cycle 4, the panel started to personally bully Christina, who in spite of being a nice girl, a non troublemaker and took BEAUTIFUL pictures, over her apparent lack of personality and having no top lip. Even worse, they even gave her a piece of tissue to put in her gums to look like she had a fuller lip. It's one of the most disgusting moments I've witnessed on the show even back then and on subsequent reairings of the episode, I'd either flip to another channel or look away.
Or when everyone was bullying Anchal for being “fat” and eating “too much”, and all the judges blatantly ignored it when she brought it up then they made her pose as the Giant Woman in a photoshoot afterwards 😬😬
You know the modeling industry is fucked up when a normal, healthy size woman is classed as "borderline plus sized."
This reminds me of when they took up issue with Keenyah's eating habits in Cycle 3, and that was a huge storyline for the second half of that season. They exploited that by making her represent "gluttony" in one shoot, and then an elephant in other shoot. It's actually so annoying to think of all the ways they manipulated situations and contestants in the name of "entertainment."
The only thing I know about this show is that meme of Tyra saying “ I HAVE NEVER IN MY LIFE YELLED AT A GIRL LIKE THIS” Tyra seems crazy ngl
Also, if you actually watch that episode she got angry at that girl for such a stupid reason.
She was angry that the girl wasn’t sad enough when she got sent home.
I remember this one cycle I can’t remember the number for it, but their was this girl (I forgot her name) who was transgender, and the girls in the house was making fun of her and belittling her. I just remember watching it and feeling so bad for her and how disgusting these girls were.
Saigie You’re thinking of Isis and literally everyone but one girl in the house were awful to her.
ms.marvelous 815 YESS that’s her name. And fr! Like it is just disgusting to me that these girls find the joy to make fun of someone who decides to feel comfortable in themselves.
Saigie it really is disgusting. I only recently just watched that episode after awhile and it really grossed me how transphobic they all were.
"It's lights out. And it's not lights out for me.

That’s why Naomi will reign supreme, yeah on her show she was mean as a judge but never cruel
Actually, Tyra says that she was the bully in high school.... so... enough said about that
Magenta Cianureto she didn’t have to say it lol her actions speak for her entire person very clearly
Magenta Cianureto if she really admitted that then I’m glad she no longer has the Tyra Show where vulnerable people spoke to her.
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THAT PEOPLE WATCH CYCLE 3, Kelly was treated extremely poorly, they broke her down and never helped her out.
She never received constructive criticism, look at her photo shoots and look at the pics they chose. Proof that the show was BS.
Also on that cycle, NICOLE, and how “forgettable” she was ...allegedly, yet never brought it up to her til the end.
Extremely poorly comparing to the black girl who are told not to be too African? Or that told natural black hair isnt glamorous coming from black woman who is colorist and snob!!
They did use that as an excuse to eliminate Nicole... and yes they intentionally choose bad pictures for kelly, i mean is the person who chose the photo blind or someone who dont understand what a good photo is?
yeah they did that on purpose to eliminate Nicole because she's consistent and doing great since day 1.
Omfg when Allison literally did blackface as Michael Jackson
why're you only saying allison ...? it was every white model in that photoshoot. and they weren't given a choice
spacekid because Allison was the only one I remembered. I recently watched a video of all of Alison’s “looks” and the MJ pic came up
@@pyroshayniac1090 they'd probably kick her out and bully her for being "too hard to work with" if she (or any other girl) refused to do it or said she felt uncomfortable.
The sexual harassment really pissed me off. That’s sick. I didn’t know about that.
Another reason why this show is literally deteriorating the contestants mental being is that not only are they only being judged on their looks but they’re also getting told their not good enough about the one thing they’re passionate about. In shows like survivor and big brother, the fact that their on a game show isn’t the most important thing about them. For these models it is. Imagine going through weeks of being judged, flying across the country, your family rooting for you and then getting told the job you’ve wanted and worked so hard for ‘isn’t cut out for you’ or that you probably won’t make it in the industry. Note to mention it’s by one of the most influential models, and probably someone they looked up to.
Marchay Seymore y’all no need for the name calling. Some comments are not worth responding to
I think the saddest part of all of this was that none of these girls even the ones who won, never became top models. They went through all of this and gave up so much for almost nothing. Unfortunately I agree that it is entertaining.
People who put others through hell in the name of “making them stronger”, simply because they themselves were put through hell just... exhaust me.
they also did ethnicity swap in cycle 13. but the twist was that they were hapa, cuz they were in hawaii. it was soooo much black face. i used to watch antm religiously when i was 12/13. but watching it back now its so awful and gave me such bad messages lol.
Emma XTC ooooh I’m so glad you said this... I see so many photos online and the model is black skinned with euro features... it’s sad and disgusting.
I was thinking of that! I hadn’t seen the ep she was talking about about bc I haven’t seen that cycle but I saw the petite/Hawaii cycle and I remember them doing that 💀
Joci445 That wasn´t really blackface though. Blackface was done with the intention of humiliating and dehumanizing black people.
