I literally just got in an argument with someone about Maya’s reaction to what happened with Cam because they had ZERO empathy and it made me so upset. She truly was never the same after it happened.
Facts. Sometimes degrassi characters will experience trauma and then next season it will seem like nothing ever happened but I really appreciated getting to see the affect that had on Maya as the years went by. With her panic attack about miles, and her overdose in Next class.

Something I always think about when I watch this season is how Fiona’s family losing all of their money shifted Declan’s experience and worldview while at Yale. That had to be WILD!!

you're so right abt your commentary on cam and how the adults didn't seem to notice any of the warning signs, especially when he LITERALLY FALLS OFF OF THE CATWALK AND BREAKS HIS ARM. he was constantly talking about how sad he was. he never showed any sort of enthusiasm about hockey to his teammates. he literally threw up on purpose to skip out of hockey practice. i don't expect the children to do anything about it but how did no adult realize this? where is the coach of the hockey team???? like there's just so many questions??? he moved away from his home and is miles away from his family, no adult thought to ask how he was dealing with all of that? i feel like it could've been prevented, his story his so tragic. literally one of the saddest degrassi deaths

As a military kid that literally went to a different school every semester since the 3rd grade I knew Campbell was depressed from the minute I saw him. I had to make and leave friends 15 times from the 3rd to the 12th grade. Everyone kept saying "it should be fun you get to travel" and I always said not for a shy, quiet, introverted kid that literally only speaks around my family. Honestly the only thing that saved me was learning lessons from shows like Degrassi that showed me I was not alone in feeling that way. Now as a college student every time somebody asks me about my experience as a military kid I am very open and honest with them about my experience. I always tell people in the military to check on their kids often because we hold a lot of things inside.

Second comment is degrassi would’ve been much better with more black folks in the writers room. The black characters always were not used or in sterotypical ‘black ppl’ situations. MIKE DALLAS performance after Cam died was SO GOOD! They could’ve used him for SO MUCH more (in ref to season 12)
especially black women in this show were treated as background characters or catalysts for plots that center white characters and it's soooo annoying. craziest thing this show did was keep chantay around for YEARRSSSSS bc they literally refused to give her any storylines
They kinda somewhat did that with marisol, but my thing is I love marisol way more than Paige due to watching degrassi seasons 10 to 12 before I ever binged the first 9 seasons and I always found Paige to be somewhat an iconic mean girl but only in the beginning of the show. I think marisol was able to do a lot of stuff within a short period of time despite the writers not giving her enough storylines so either way marisol ended up being that girl one way or the other.
Plus they gave Paige too many unnecessary storylines and ruined Paige with an uncannon special towards the end of her character departure

It would be so hilarious to get a show with some of the folks from past Degrassi seasons living their lives in their late 20s to early 30s, and its just a totally normal sitcom with none of the intense drama Degrassi has, with direct references to how impactful/traumatizing their high school years were.
Alli and Dallas forever!!! My personal theme song for them is ships in the night because they keep passing each other by because every time they tried to get together this season something stopped them.
A lot of the live “two parters” on Teennick around this time had summers where they played a new Degrassi episode everyday. So yeah we weren’t waiting over a year to watch 60 episodes 😂

I’ll always be disappointed in Marisol’s character. They gave her no personality beside being a bully and Katie’s sidekick. The writers gave her no storylines except for that ridiculous diabetes thing with Mo and it felt like the writers didn’t even take that seriously. She was just there to say a few snarky or funny lines in other people’s storylines and I don’t get why they didn’t treat her like a real character.
Degrassi really don’t like black women, literally took them all the way to next class to finally well develop one all the way through and of course I won’t spoil who because we probably both know lol

I'll do another comment thread. Since Campbell is coming up where I am I'll mention my thoughts on him. His character was severely underutilized in my opinion. Besides his mental health issues, him being a hockey player, being Mayas boyfriend and that he was from somewhere else in Ontario what do we know about him????? Jack shit. We don't know anything about him. Eventually I learned that his character was created solely for the purpose so the show could have a suic*de storyline and knowing that makes my feelings make much more sense. These episode only being half an hour didn't help either.
In Jenna's defense, Luke wasn't upfront with her about how he wasn't interested in her at all and instead used him being Christian as a shield to make her not feel bad. Yeah he didn't ask Jenna to get baptized but he damn sure made her believe that he couldn't be with her because she wasn't Christian
Same and I’m so glad she finally put the video out, not completely what I expected her opinions to be but always exceeds my expectations even more especially when some of her thoughts give me a whole new perspective on the show, and I will also say that of course I liked Jenna in the beginning and through season 11 but seasons 12 and further is when she dropped severely character wise now that I look back the way she treated and overly reacted to Connor knowing he has Asperger Syndrome. Literally what I was diagnosed as a 9 year old kid at the time, but yeah it was insane how Jenna started to act foolish again but in a distasteful petty filled way.

I was never a fan of Imogen. Even after her personality automatically changed so she could be a suitable love interest to Fiona then they make her sabotage Fiona's interview of of petty jealousy just so we can have this dramatic storyline in the finale. Imogen's abusive behavior towards Eli when she first came on the show was never fully addressed and never gives a full apology for that. It's like a pattern to add with the writers never delving into if Katie raped Drew or not (if you ask me, I would probably say yes. Yeah Drew did lie to her about being drunk muddying the situation but it was still rape). It's not entirely the writers fault due to how society treats the topic of consent and where that line is crossed itself isn't great but still
Aye nice shout out to the Degrassi Wikia. Honestly I can thank admins and users on the Degrassi Wikia for being the media fan I am. The users there had entire lists of movies, shows, books, music, OTPs, etc that they liked and it fascinated me so I ended up compiling lists on various shows, books, comics, music, etc in a similar way because I liked how expansive they were and started getting into media to have alot under my belt and I have seen alot of shows, read alot of books and comics, listened to different types of music, watch a shitton of different UA-camrs, listened to some podcasts. I can thank Degrassi for that
The one thing that doesn't get mentioned often enough when discussing the Drew/Bianca/Katie storyline is that Drew was literally drunk and straight up didn't remember having sex with Katie the next day. I wouldn't portray Drew as the one in the wrong there, especially since he had already broken up with her prior to the party. I always see people talk about this storyline without mentioning that Drew was drunk and it honestly feels like a double standard that would be mentioned if it were the other way around. But I definitely agree that Drew always loved Bianca and it was unfair to Katie to date her despite knowing his feelings.
It drives me that it’s never mentioned how horrible drew really was to Katie, and of course we all now the deeper reasons to why cause drew like zig doesn’t want the girl he’s with, but is in it do to a hasty choice that he can’t get out of. I wish more people spoke about how, Katie pushing herself to do soccer with an injury no one stepped in or forced her not to. Drew never expressed any real concern for Katie, he was more so concerned with Bianca during it so when Katie needed him he mentally wasn’t there; resulting in her perception being distorted. Katie I feel for to a degree she lost everything and of course she did due to her own choices, the taking advantage of drew then putting him on blast was vile; though that’s typical Katie behaviour seen with Fiona and Bianca with the Oxy.
No. Drew most definitely should’ve been blamed for what happened. His “breakup” with Katie wasn’t clear enough. He was stringing her along while also lying to Bianca behind her back. And he was not even that drunk when him and Katie hooked up lol. She forced herself on to him but he let it happen. He knew exactly what he did because he was bragging about it at the party afterwards

I remember when this season was airing on TV. Campbell's storyline was so hard for me to watch. I thought he was mad cute so I immediately got attached. When his family didn't care that he was alone struggling I was so angry. And when he fell from the balcony I knew it wasn't going to end well. I never felt so sad for a character loss in a show before.
So Campbell Saunders would have been Class of 2015. (Class of 2015 doesn't really have a lot of members and their graduation was never shown on screen.) Maya, Tristan, and Zig are all Class of 2016. Clare, Alli, Connor and Jenna are Class of 2014

As far as maya and all them go, I’d say seasons 13 and 14 are definitely gonna be worth the watch later on, you’re definitely in for a good ride.

I didn’t want this season to end. It had the best feeling while watching it while also keeping me entertained in every single episode and leaving me shook nonstop
I watched season 12 live (I was in 10th grade) and to this day I still remember watching that Cam episode in real time, season 12 is my fave season and the last one I really watched 💔 definitely felt like an end of an era.
Watched seasons 10 through 12 on directv when I was a teenager and yeah waiting for each one part episode per week was a bit stressful back then on teen nick but now I love how I binge the show on Tubi again and it’s better for me to watch now way later in my 23 24 year old life

i watched this show when it was airing, i think 2 episodes came on at a time or were uploaded at a time when i was able to catch it. I watched it when I was 11 or 10 (too young for sure) and Cam's storyline made me cry so hard. Watching it back to this day still hurts but I also remember being angry that they said suicide was selfish and i detested Zig (still do). I love your videos!

Noooooo Amanda Connor and Jenna are my favorite Degrassi couple!! To me, they definitely fit the "odd pairing" or "odd couple" trope but they end up completing each other so well I think... I don't remember which season it was in, cause I have a hard time understanding shows through the lens of seasons, but eventually I feel that Jenna realises that all the hang ups she has about Connor are hang ups she FEELS she should have because everyone else is suspicious of their relationships and actually she really loves Connor the way he is... Idk I found myself relating to Connor often and I was eventually really happy with his relationship with her, I thought it was very cute
Same! Jenna became a more tolerable person dating Connor (their space date was adorable!!) and I hope Amanda feels the same when she gets there

Yes she is! What makes this even more fun is that Vanessa and Demetrius Joyette (the actor who plays Dallas) both worked together years prior on another Canadian show called the Latest Buzz! They were both leads on that show and it ran for 3 seasons and they were about 13-14 years old. So it was nice to see them older and on screen together again in degrassi.

I also knew you would end up liking marisol later on in the show, obviously degrassi hates black people even her and Dave even though there are a lot of people that either love or hate Dave honestly because degrassi takes so long to give a crumb more of character development on their black characters and I agree with you it is maddening foreal.
And Dave’s character just disappears in the next season, no explanation. Dave wasn’t all that bad to me. In fact to me Dave acted the most like a typical teenager. I also don’t think he cheated on Alli, they had broken up and were working their way back but they weren’t together. That topic is giving Ross and Rachel “We were on a break!” Lol
He definitely cheated in the middle of season 11, he did not in 12 but he still treated Alli like she was his property in the sense of complaining about not having enough time for him and stuff like that. It was just really a fall out and grow apart thing overall. I like Dave but he was definitely flawed

From my memory the way they used to air degrassi on teen nick was having a block of the summer where they would play one episode a night m-f so we got 5 episodes a week in a pretty quick fashion which made me always trying to get home to catch it in time

I watched this show as it aired in the 6th grade. Particularly this season, and I had to watch weekly as Campbell slowly succumbed to his depression. Without even having words for it, I knew something was deeply deeply wrong with him and it hurt so bad to see nobody help him. It was like watching a car crash! Watching this whole season was torture. However, I can say this is definitely my favorite season of Degrassi. The jokes are so funny, I love Mo and Jake and Eli as a group. Aside from Dave there’s not exactly a character that I outright hate. And Owen. The show was great though, because it put words to a lot of the things that I was going through or was seeing my friends going through. I will say, I love Bianca and how far she’s come, and I absolutely adore her relationship with Audra. I don’t really think that it was Audra being nefarious trying to get to drew through her because even before Drew left I saw that they had gotten so close. She was like the first parental figure in Bianca‘s life and, even having one person tell her that she believed in her pushed Bianca to do so much. In my opinion this is the best handled season of Degrassi and I think they even handled Cams death well. The reactions were so realistic imo

After you watch this series I reccomend watching the originals if you hadnt already. This is my first viewing exp of Degrassi and I started with the original 80/90s. Its really good and shows some of the characters as teens that we see in the original TNG seasons , specifically following Simpson the entire time. Its SO good
the og degrassi? i doubt she'd enjoy it its old
@@blackgrlfly i watched it for the first time this year I actually really liked it. I guess it does depend on taste as its really different from TNG but as a show I think it still holds up in places

I agree 100% but not too much on Katie 😢😂. I feel like the Vegas trip was good growth for the both of them. Also, you didn’t bring up when she helped Claire through the whole Asher situation. I feel like she was a really good friend towards her in the end because she didn’t necessarily agree, but to help her friend she was down to do whatever. She also gets cool points for smacking one of the hockey players lol idk I liked Katie’s character towards the end

As a child who was in foster care and group homes not making other main characters from KC group home and making that a in depth plot line (especially during the coach bs) was a WASTED opportunity. They could’ve hired me to help write how those teen homes work
