I actually pity Jiren, even after he nearly killed the other Z-Fighters. His fear of being weak and losing due to his past trauma is creeping up on him, causing him to lose it and make irrational decisions (attacking the people on the stands). As far as I can tell, he's not evil, but fear can crumble even the most powerful mountains.

@@RheemQ there are some exceptions but not really in shonen sadly. Shigerui, Berserk, Ghost in the Shell are all masterclasses in deep and flawed characters but they don't have the ridiculous scale of dragon ball so it's easier to tell thoughtful, character driven stories
After watching the video, I must say that this was an excellent analysis. Jiren's character kinda reminds me of the Hedgehog's dilemma where he wants to have real friends, but doesn't want to get hurt. Congrats on 500k subs, you definitely deserve it!
Goku was raised on Earth, he doesn't feel the saiyan race or his biological father and mother as his own. He wasn't there when frizea killed them all. Vegeta was. This is why you can't compare that with Jiren's trauma. You could compare Vegeta with Jiren on this matter. The difference is very small. Vegeta is driven by anger, and Jiren is driven by fear. Both have strived for absolute power, so that theres noone above them.

Every battle in Z onwards has represented some form of development for Goku. Goku vs Vegeta he showed that a superficial class system doesnt decide whos better, hard work does. Goku vs Frieza showed the struggles of staying true to yourself and consequences of showing mercy. Goku and Gohan vs Cell was about passing the torch and taking responsibilty for your actions via Goku deciding to stay dead. Goku vs Kidbuu was about Goku accepting that he cant always win by himself and needs others' help sometimes. Goku vs Beerus was about Goku showing that no one decides your limits but you. Goku vs Frieza was about not letting your guard down even when youve won. Goku vs Hit was to never be someone elses pawn. Goku vs Black was pretty obvious. And Goku vs Jiren is trust in others vs isolation and solitude.

Love vs. Fear. Jiren fears to disappoint others which fuels his need for power. Goku loves everyone even his enemies which is a result of his pure hearted, child like innocence.
I really like Jiren. I know a lot of people find him dull, but that "dullness" brings out his character. It's something different. If he had no backstory, no reason for always being silent, and did not have trust issues, then yes, he would be flat and boring. The way you talk about Jiren in this video brings out his personality even more, I think.
But I still want Freeza to win. :D

I had actually never really put that depth of thought into this. Its Dragon Ball, I usually try and sit back and enjoy it without the need to over analysis every detail. This is interesting though and it shows that the writers actually did put some thought into the story and Jiren's character. While it could have always been executed better but I dig it and its given me a new perspective on this tournament, well done.

I LOVE that they made this statement! It supports something I've been believing concerning Jiren's development or enlightening through interacting with Goku.
Geekdom, you made a video a little while ago breaking down Jiren's internal issues resulting from brutal loss and severe isolation; having no faith in anyone but himself. It led me to consider that the way to breaking through what is truly Jiren's internal trauma (as is being played out based on INTERPRETATION of Toriyama's point) would be for him not to win, since his winning would only fuel his traumatic, faulty reasoning concerning why self reliance is the only worthwhile way in life. I thought back then that Goku, being the polar opposite in having the utmost respect for and no fear of reliance on teamwork and support, would have to defeat Jiren to help him understand how wrong he was. However, if Ultra Instinct Goku was made to solely defeat Jiren, I'd think it would still fuel Jiren's faulty philosophy since, from his perspective, it would be ONE man's great power that triumphed, just not HIS power. Based on your prior video I mentioned, back then I thought Goku would be key to Jiren's awakening to the truth. However, after seeing from the recent released image for 131 that both Goku AND Frieza are team-working against Jiren, I see now that this is the way Jiren can truly witness the fact that it is support, community, and teamwork that is the superior way in life. Jiren would still need to be brought to max power for this important life lesson to happen since anything less than his full power, he can just reason that his full power would have been superior. At full power, clear and evident teamwork would have to be the victor for this lesson. Ultra Instinct Goku is able to bring out, not only Jiren's full power, but helps Jiren to break through his own limits to realize even MORE tremendous power! If teamwork is able to defeat this epicly powered Jiren, where Goku has even fallen out of Ultra Instinct, what an amazing eye opener this can be for Jiren!! This Tournament of Power and interacting with Goku and friends can cause Jiren to reap far more in value than he ever expected from this tournament. Of course, if his universe is erased it seems a pointless lesson, but somehow, I believe the universes will be restored.

You bring up some fantastic points. It would be interesting to see Jiren have a small conversation with Goku when he sees Frieza aiding him. Something around the lines of “he’s my mortal enemy, and he’s even killed my friends. But I’m trusting him to help me win this.” This would then hit Jiren hard at the realization that finding strength in your friends and even your enemies is were real power come from. And that perhaps he starts to doubt himself and see how wrong he was this whole time. Or maybe the exact opposite happens where he rejects this idea and uses it as fuel to defeat Goku to prove how much of a fool he’s being.

The most incredible thing I’ve seen in the Survival arc surprisingly I’ve not seen anyone else mention is when Goku receives Vegeta’s remaining strength and he reflects on his friends that have stood with him is Freiza himself refers to Son Goku not as a mere Sayan-but by is given name. He refers to him as “Son Goku”. He has earned the respect of one of his universes’s most malevolent tyrants. That blew me away COMPLETELY!! And still does!

Idk why people don’t like how Goku loses to Jiren. Jiren needs to win to stay relevant. People will always like Goku, can’t say the same thing about Jiren. What drives the Jiren fan base is that he’s strong and that invincible being. The moment he loses his fan base plummets. This keeps me excited to continue seeing Jiren and seeing how much further Goku can get mastering his Ultra Instinct.

Goku has a similar backstory to Superman: sent to Earth because his home world exploded, etc. Jiren has a similar backstory to Batman, even with the clown God of Destruction who is sort of like the Joker. In a way, it’s a Superman vs Batman, albeit a much stronger version of Batman.

I don't think the term "Philosophical" is being used correctly.
Its not really two completely different philosophical systems, or that the characters are constantly reflecting over each other, or anything like that. Here, when we are talking about Goku and Jiren, we are presented to an existential basis of each character, a "Point of view" that each one has in life, according to their respectives experiences, with an apparent common goal, and the two when fighting are in some kind of "dialectical debate", hence the analogy of the collision, pressed by a somewhat survival dogma and rule that they cannot escape. They are not fighting each other by an own choice, they literally don't have a choice, if they dont wanna be erased from existence.

Assuming non-GT, I will use both characters maximum levels of power for this battle. Pre Crisis Superman vs SS3 Goku post Buu timeskip. I don't really need to explain how powerful Superman is, even mentioning that Superman was unable to beat Flash in a footrace.
So I will focus on Goku. I want to start out by saying, no one knows exactly how powerful SS3 Goku is, as power levels stop being officially tracked after the Frieza saga, where Goku is stated to have a PL of 150 million. If you want my opinion on how I think his power scales up till the end of GT, you need only look at my sig. I will not attempt to use my fanmade power levels in a matchup like this though.
First, I think it's important to define what a power level is. An ordinary human has a power level of 5. It takes 27 PSI to crack open a human skull. In the first episode of Dragonball, Goku has a power level of 10. In that episode he is hit by a car and shot in the head by Bulma. Even a shot from a 9mm gun is over 30,000 PSI. Goku did not even bleed from that shot. The difference of 5 to 10 is a LOT more than double. This trend continues when Master Roshi blows up the moon with a power level of 140. The moon is about an 83rd of the weight of the Earth in mass. That's over 150 sextillion pounds worth of mass destroyed in a single shot. That is less than Pre Crisis Superman has been shown to lift with 1 arm, when he lifted 4 septillion pounds. Even so, it's an important thing to note.
It appears power levels do not scale linearly. It seems that each power level is more significant than the previous. If this pattern continues indefinitely, it's possible Goku is stronger than, or at least as strong as Pre Crisis Superman as early as the first episode of Dragonball z with his power level of over 950. During his fight with Vegeta, Vegeta threatens to blow up the Earth with a power level of 18,000. Some think that is a bluff, I think that would be out of character with Vegeta's personality, but that's another debate entirely.
Anywho, with the way power levels increase in DBZ, by the end of the Frieza saga Goku was likely capable of mass destruction on a galactic scale. Which brings me to my next point. Some will call this next point non-canon in the extreme as this is a movie reference. If you wish to do that, that's your choice. I do believe the movies follow the same "rules" as the anime/manga though. There is actually one power level stated to be higher than SS Frieza saga Goku. According to V-Jump magazing, LSS Broly has a power level of 1.4 billion.
Broly destroys the entire South Galaxy in his movie. That's a rather misleading term though, and probably doesn't mean what you think it does. In real life, a galaxy is 50-100 billion planets. There are about 600 sextillion planets in the observable universe. The South Galaxy in DBZ is not a typical real life galaxy, it is one quarter of the universe. So assuming our universes are the same size, Broly destroyed about 150 sextillion planets in one blast. I believe it's been shown that at higher super saiyan forms, possibly as early as FPSS, Goku is stronger than Broly. As a super saiyan 3, Goku is certainly more powerful than Broly, and super saiyan 3s have been shown to be able to break the laws of reality. So it's likely that SS3 Goku could destroy the universe, maybe even reality itself.
Now to cover speed, this is a fun one. On foot Superman cannot reach lightspeed. The Flash was shown to be faster than Superman in a footrace, as mentioned above. If the Flash ever reaches lightspeed he joins with the speedforce, which he clearly didn't in that race. So he didn't need to even reach lightspeed to beat Superman. Superman appears to be able to fly faster than lightspeed though, as traversing our solar system in a few minutes would require a little more than lightspeed, since the distance from the Earth to the Sun is 7 light minutes.
How fast is Goku though? Well, there's only two good events that you can use to measure speed in DBZ. One is the kamehameha wave from Cooler's Revenge. In about 10 seconds, Goku's kamehameha wave reached from the Earth to the Sun, making it about 50 times faster than the speed of light. Therefore, anyone that can dodge SS1 Goku's kamehameha wave, or even see it, has to be at least 50 times faster than the speed of light. Why is seeing it important? In DBZ, there are many times that the characters move faster than other characters can see. So basically, any villain post SS1 that can keep up with Goku can move at least 50 times faster than lightspeed.
The other case is a little more extreme though. When Vegeta uses The Final Flash against Cell. It's clearly shown that his blast leaves our solar system and explodes on a far away planet/star. The closest planet to our solar system is 10.5 lightyears away. That's 31556926 light seconds. It got there in only 20 seconds, therefore The Final Flash moves at least 1577846.3 times faster than lightspeed. And that was just ascended Super Saiyan Vegeta. Keep in mind perfect Cell saw this attack coming, yet is unable to see SS2 Gohan's movements. And SS3 Goku is obviously far stronger and faster. I don't think Goku would even need to transform to beat Pre Crisis Superman. He could likely kill him with a single finger. To put another nail in the coffin though, let's talk about fighting skills.
Goku is a world champion martial artist that continuously trains to better himself. Many times he has fought evenly with beings of similar or greater power. There is a time when Pre Crisis Superman loses his powers. During this time he has a boxing match with Muhammad Ali. Superman loses without landing a single blow, due to his lack of fighting skill. He has been trained in martial arts by Batman, but he is no world class fighter. Superman is also not used to actually fighting an equal or more powerful opponent at faster than light speeds.

Goku's energy is like a calm ocean leaving the battle to flow along it's natural course, Jiren's is like a raging fire, he has to force the battle to submit to him he burns everything in between himself and victory, he never gets a second chance or has the luxury of leaving it to fate.

One thing I would like it if after Super is over they would remake Dragon Ball GT with better animation. It had alot of potential but it was but to waste with the few amount of episodes they released. They could add more arcs and and extra episodes along with alot better animation. I dont care if you dont like GT its my opinion and you should respect that. If you like DbZ, Db, or Super O respect that. O and BTW good job if you have read everything if you did give this cooment and this video a 👍

I think this video is a good example of over-analysing, there is no major philosophy of this fight if any it's that: "There is no limit to yourself"

In order for a fight to have a deep meaning, the characters in it have to be and that's not the case. Jiren is the definition of one dimensional with having a shitty backstory behind him that's completely generic and then we got Goku who is....Goku. There's no deep meaning in this fight, just Goku fighting a buff grey alien in order to save his universe, that's not philosophical whatsoever...

Goku had the fortune to have the dragon balls around to revive his dead friends and vice versa where his friends revive him back. Jiren never was that fortunate, he had to deal with his loses without a chance to revive them back to life.
