Majin Vegeta stated that SS2 Goku was stronger than Gohan was when he fought Cell. This video proves how big of a deal that is. Then Goku had SS3 on top of that.
Couple of points prove Gohan was insanely strong as a SSJ2: 1. Cell survived his self destruct in normal perfect form but was destroyed by Gohan, in his super perfect form 2. Gohan had half his power destroyed by the damage he took protecting Vegeta and yet was standing upto Cell's full powered Kamehameha 3. Gohan kept increasing his power everytime Goku motivated him during the final battle 4. If Super perfect Cell was indeed more powerful, he should have been able to deflect Gohan's Kamehameha 5. It took Vegeta 7yrs of training and letting himself be controlled by Babidi to get as powerful as cell saga Gohan, assuming he actually did
I think based on statements by other characters like Goku and Piccolo, it is implied that Majin vegeta SSJ2 was beyond SSJ2 teen Gohan. majin vegeta stated that Goku's SSJ2 power was a ki greater than Gohans back then. Piccolo also goes on to remark that he hadnt felt a power as radical as vegetas since Gohans when Vegeta was fighting Buu.
@@elpopman2055 My point being that in the Buu saga, the main characters talked about SSJ2 Teens Gohan as if it was the best, they had ever sense and regarded it as a standard. Gohan was inspired by Goku and tapped into everything he had left against Cell... which was a lot. (Also, Vegeta did catch Cell by surprise with an attack from his blindside, which gave Gohan a moment to overwhelm Cell with his one arm Kamehameha.)
The cell games was one of the most intense sequences with the most emotion Dragonball has ever put out. Meanwhile, Krillin back there worrying about harassing an android.
Vegeta's attack was not physically damaging enough on Cell to help Gohan win the fight, instead it was more mental. It helped Gohan overcome his own doubt, his own fear, and his own blame. There are 3 battles going on during the fight, one in the mind of Gohan, another in the mind of Vegeta, and the obvious one with the physical fight of Gohan/Cell. Gohan was losing the fight against himself, he still needed his dad, he still needed his friends and he was scared of letting everyone down. When Gohan saw Vegeta attack Cell, he knew that Vegeta had finally defeated his most powerful foe and biggest weakness, his pride. Vegeta had won, no matter the outcome of the fight against Cell. Everyone had given their all, except Gohan, and he realized this. Vegeta helped him realize this because he knew he was struggling through a similar mental battle. It was now up to Gohan to overcome his biggest weakness and he knew he had to do it now. As Gohan unleashes his true strength with his kamehameha, he walks forward because he is not scared anymore. The imagery of his dad is no longer shown behind him because he is doing this on his own and his fear of being alone has been conquered. Gohan finally won.
@@DC-zi6se that was anime only. In the manga cell didn;t budge one bit. only yelled "vegeta!" Gohan ssj2 was stronger. Vegeta only showed gohan to break through his mental struggle since Vegeta could.
One handed gohan was pretty much matched with super perfect cell. But gohan literally said “ my power had been cut in HALF!” So if one arm is equal to cell, then gohan was still TWICE as powerful as super perfect cell when healed...
Gohan has always been my favourite. Just for how his character interacts with his power. He's the timid, shy pacifist. But when he transforms into SS2, and again when he goes to Ultimate Form, he becomes more arrogant than Vegeta. He becomes a true Saiyan, ruthless and violent. But at his core, he's always trying to tie his arrogance and pacifism. Which I love about Super, he gets training about how to rein in his arrogance, and he will fight, when necessary. Gohan has the most room for growth, power-wise (for the exception of Broly) in the franchise. All the main fighters, Goku, Vegeta, Frieza, they all train constantly. Gohan doesn't. Think about the possibility of him training for more than 48hrs, on a continuous basis
saitamablackgoku28 Right. A couple of hits was all it took for Cell to regurgitate 18. If Gohan was never handicapped, it was still going to be a stomp, it was going to take a just a little bit longer
It's funny how people say that vegeta helped gohan by distracting cell when he was the reason why gohan couldn't go all out against cell instantly, cough cough gohan protected vegeta and got injured cough cough
When the z fighters shot at cell he didn't budge even when they all did it at once. When Vegeta did he actually get staggered a bit and was surprised by Vegeta. That tells me it distracted him and allowed Gohan to push him back. I'm not saying Gohan got lucky. I'm just saying Vegeta still got cells attention. Vegeta was the only one to budge Cell.
Keyblade games the other fighters didn’t even attack cell in the manga. Only vegeta did, that’s just an extra addition the anime dub takes liberty with
I agree. So Gohan going straight to defend the blast was off-guard, but cell distracted by Vegeta's blast wasn't? His argument was contradictory. I agree that Gohan was stronger than Cell, but not by a large margin as some people state. If he was so much stronger than Cell he could easily deflect that blast with his hand or take it head-on and don't suffer any damage.
I always thought Cell screaming "Vegeta!" after Vegetas blast during the beam struggle wasn't Cell feeling the shot, but more shocked Vegeta would do that. He has Saiyan cells and the fact Vegeta did that is what shocked him.
yeah he was schoked vegeta would interfere in a battle. Gohan was schoked too that vegeta broke through a mental struggle to do that. So Gohan did the same and released all his mental doubt and worry and release all his full power which of course was ton stronger than Super perfect cell. Gohan ssj2 was holding back against regular perfect cell
Totally agree. Also, Gohan is still only 11. He, like all kids, can easily get discouraged and overwhelmed mentally/emotionally. He doesn't have the mental fortitude of an adult. His on doubt was holding him back, and the support from Goku helped him overcome
Crazy how in the future he lost an arm and in the past. Imagine if cell was how he lost that arm would've gave us more content and something between Gohan and Vegeta.
@@marksdevil6716 😂 yeah they made both useless pretty much but if trunks went back in time to save Goku and prevent trunks from his lost arm at the hands of cell we could of had more Dynamics in the story.
Yeah in the future, gohan loses his arm and dies with trunks surviving & becoming powerful. And in the present, gohan loses his arm after becoming more powerful, but with trunks not surviving.
@@Nuttso88 lol that would be dope tbh everyone would get the Gohan they want and we get rid of new trunks 😂 definitely better. If Vegeta and Goku die and Gohan is old with one arm training his brother and defending the earth towards then end of dragon Ball thats not to bad 🤷🏽♂️.
Imagine Gohan with 2 arms, a Kamehameha of that magnitude would have obliterated cell. Kinda feel like Gohan could have deflected that blast like it was nothing while still saving Vegeta and would have still defeated Cell with ease.
Here's my two cents: If Vegeta didn't cause Gohan to get injured than Super Perfect Cell vs Gohan would have been more like SSJ Goku vs Full Power Frieza. Cell would sure as hell fight back and get some good hits in, but ultimately Gohan would still be too much for him and Cell would still lose. As much as I love Cell he's not as strong as Gohan no matter how you look at it.
Didnt goku die against frieza though when frieza knocked him into the lava right before the wish to bring everyone back was made, so he came back full power?
If Gohan never saved Vegeta after he rushed cell, I would've been ok with that. I was looking forward to round 2 of SSJ2 Gohan vs "Super" Perfect Cell.
camron147 sarcasm or not it isn’t a wrong opinion. Vegeta caused a lot of problems throughout the majority of Z and truly is only a good person in Super. He was gradually shifting over time but he did a lot of horrible and unreasonable things
10:58 to add to the concept of being defenseless, there was a filler episode (I believe) where Krillin tossed a rock at Goku's head while he was casually in SSJ and Goku took damage from it lol
There’s also an episode when Gohan is fighting bad guys in Satan City and gets distracted. Once Gohan is distracted, one of the bad guys punches Gohan in the face and we see Gohan flinch. Afterward, we see Gohan sustained no damage and the bad guy’s fist was hurt from Gohan’s buff face. So Gohan got distracted and it was enough for a normal person to knock him back (even if Gohan sustained 0 damage afterward)
Gohan was not unprepared for that blast that was meant for Vegeta. He literally jumped in front of it, it didn't catch him by surprise like the laser beam to Goku. It was much more similar and maybe even symbolic of Piccolo jumping in front of Gohan during the Saiyan saga.
Thank you for clearing up the controversy. I literally had a argument with 2 friends who claimed that goku gave gohan Ki yo defeat cell in the beam struggle in order to lowball gohan in comparison to cell. They’re going to feel and look so stupid once I present this video to them. Thanks Geekdom!
@Martin Ramirez Pretty much, Goku was actually a 'Guide' to help Gohan defeat Cell. Nothing about giving Ki, he was just there because of King Kai's telepathy, that's it
Very good info. But one thing had always lingered in my mind. The Zenkai Boost. Cell had several Saiyan DNA cells as part of his being. So the natural logic would be 6 Saiyan DNA cells (Goku, Gohan, Future Trunks, Vegeta, Nappa and Raditz) thus 6 Zenkai Boosts. Now obviously it doesn't necessarily mean Cell was stronger than SSJ2 Gohan but more like he was on even ground with Gohan. But ultimately Gohan was stronger than Cell.
After Gohan SSJ2 was hit with Dead beam from Super Cell while saving Vegeta, he did mentioned to Goku that his energy was cut in half while Super cell was fresh and renewed but still he was able to defeat cell completely. Which clearly states that Gohan was way more powerful than Super cell.
There is a reason Vegeta needed to throw that attack there, and it has nothing to do with it killing cell or distracting him. Gohan needed to think that he was distracted to pass his mental block in that moment, or he woulda still been holding back.
If this gohan had continued vigorous training and never stopped...gained ultimate confidence minus the arrogance Goku and Vegeta would never have caught up imo.
Vegeta even stated in the anime that Gohan generated a bigger Kamehameha wave then Cell did but wasn't even exhausted after blasting chunks off of Cell, and also Goku himself said that Gohan is way ahead of his fathers teachings.
I'm so glad I found this video again. I found a video moments ago that completely skips the moment SP Cell's power was sensed by Gohan and Gohan, who was tired from a prolonged fight, STILL DIDN'T FLINCH. It's so annoying how the "SP Cell is stronger" camp ignores this blatant fact. Either they're trolls or willfully ignorant. SP Cell camp can hold this L.
If anyone deserves that power, it's Gohan. Goku: Gohan, you're not using your full power. You've got to unleash it. Gohan: Dad, I don't want to destroy the Earth. *Savior attitude.*
I've always seen that Cell calling out Vegeta as Cell being suprised that Vegeta's pride would allow him to actually try to interrupt the fight not him distracting Cell
I think it's a bit of both, yeah. But I do think the help of distracting Cell allowed Gohan to finish the fight faster. It would have taken longer to overpower the beam, maybe allowing for Cell to come up with a trick, or scheme. Faster is better in getting rid of an enemy like Cell.
@@TheHylden vegeta provided the opening. in the anime when vegeta hit him cell yelled at vegeta and immediately after that Gohan struck. no way was gohan gonna win that beam struggle alone
@@phogetta1 Gohan couldv'e won regardless of Vegeta's help. Gohan was holding back through the whole thing just because he was worried he'd blow up the earth. With half his power and one arm he's worried about accidentally blowing up the earth with Cell. How is that even remotely anything close to him not winning that?
Yeah it did, that's not really debatable because it is shown very clearly in both the manga and anime. Even the voice actors made it clear that it hurt.
Ya. Big D went too much in to that one. The Z fighters were nothing to Cell. There is a clear difference between him taking their blasts and him taking one shot from Vegeta. I agree that Gohan wins that fight 1v1, but to deny Vegeta’s effect on the outcome is bull shit.
"this is the combined power of me and my father" I believe is a line based on the fact that ssj2 was the result of Goku and Gohan training together. As in, this is the power they helped to create. But all in all good video, always love checking this stuff out as I've been a Dragonball fan for years and like you, have had many a debate on just how powerful Gohan is / was. Glad to see another fan ;)
Also, Gohan was at 50% and still beat Super Perfect Cell. Manga confirms Gohan is at 50% when Gohan complains about it to Goku and Goku responds with "Don't worry, you can still win!" So SSJ2 Gohan's full power is approx. 2x Super Perfect Cell.
I think the art in the anime says it all. The amount of energy released when Gohan finally beats cell is insane...Just completely blows out Cell's kameha.
Yep, Geekdom made a good point that strong characters can react to point blank attacks. Goku with nappa's mouth beam Goku with freizas death beams Goku even reacting to his own technqiues when trainign for namekt in that small capsule ship Goku again with Ginyu's point blank beam 17 managing to react to being surrounded by Piccolos hellzone grenades If Cell was stronger than Gohan, he woudl have just bounced back, but he never did. like you said, his own kamehameha was blown out, completley overcome pretty much instantly.
In chapter 413, Cell literally says in exact quotation: “Another good thing happened to me as well! I regenerated into my perfect form without #18! I immediately felt much more powerful than normal! *I’m almost as strong as Gohan!* It has to be my Saiyan cells that helped me gain this power!” It could’ve been a translation error, but i believe the original untranslated Japanese version had something along those lines.
The way I see it, I dont think Cell was full confident he could outright beat Gohan because Gohan literally told Cell to come at him, Cell whom hesitated. Cell came back and was likely equal to the supressed SSJ2 Power than Gohan was showing. We saw what full unleashed Gohan did to cell, cell offered absoltely no resistance and was killed.

Couple of points prove Gohan was insanely strong as a SSJ2:
1. Cell survived his self destruct in normal perfect form but was destroyed by Gohan, in his super perfect form
2. Gohan had half his power destroyed by the damage he took protecting Vegeta and yet was standing upto Cell's full powered Kamehameha
3. Gohan kept increasing his power everytime Goku motivated him during the final battle
4. If Super perfect Cell was indeed more powerful, he should have been able to deflect Gohan's Kamehameha
5. It took Vegeta 7yrs of training and letting himself be controlled by Babidi to get as powerful as cell saga Gohan, assuming he actually did
He already matched and surpassed Cell Saga Gohan already, he even almost mocks Buu Saga Gohan's power during the tournament.
@@ZeroDividedByZero Not Really. Gohan was little bit weaker and he was so powerful as a Super Saiyan 2 due to his rage
@@WaveForceful in Japanese translation Piccolo was not sure if Vegeta surpassed Gohan or not.
@@elpopman2055 My point being that in the Buu saga, the main characters talked about SSJ2 Teens Gohan as if it was the best, they had ever sense and regarded it as a standard. One handed Gohan is stronger than super perfect cell
Such a sick arc. The Android saga and Cell Games are still my favorite. I've always known how insane Gohan was and this is truly why Gohan has such a following. I enjoyed that he "retired" after this fight to focus on being a normie. He deserves it!

@@UnifiedEntity i dont think he did tbh i think even at that age he knew who he was ...gohan isnt a fighter bro he does not wake up wanting to train ...while yes i agree with u but u gotta understand he's half saiyan half human ....its not in him to WANT to train or fight just to fight

Its hilarious when you think about the fact Cell still lost against a one handed Kamehameha
Gohan was inspired by Goku and tapped into everything he had left against Cell... which was a lot.

No, cuz the video is full of speculative bullshit.
It was physically damaging as well, it made Cell lose his ballance.

People really be thinking gohan was gonna lose to cell in they rematch I knew gohan was stronger than super perfect cell
saitamablackgoku28 Right.

Bol! That made me laugh
Only vegeta did, that’s just an extra addition the anime dub takes liberty with
Vegeta attack did no damage
@@marksdevil6716 that's not the point the point is it distracted cell
In the manga vegeta was so freaking weak all he did was annoy cell with his attack, kinda like a fly landing on your arm.
Imagine if cell was how he lost that arm would've gave us more content and something between Gohan and Vegeta.

finally someone knows how strong gohan was
Makes sense and is consistent with the narrative of Gohan's character throughout Dragonball.
Imagine Gohan with 2 arms, a Kamehameha of that magnitude would have obliterated cell. Kinda feel like Gohan could have deflected that blast like it was nothing while still saving Vegeta and would have still defeated Cell with ease.
This whole argument is just like Manray arguing with Patrick about his wallet
But its not my wallet.
Gohans power as a SSJ2 after this point was used as the benchmark (a high one at that) for every SSJ2 in the series after this
I wanted the manga to continue with the idea of getting Gohan more involved, half human saiyan shows greater power potential than pure saiyan.
Gohans performance was one of if not the most impressive feat and act of strength in regards to transformation powerups

He also says Cell didn't feel the attack from Vegeta. In the anime clip he was showing, cell's body literally folds from the attack.
The way it’s shown in the anime, Vegeta does distract cell for a second or two and gohan capitalizes on that by using his full power lol

Here's my two cents:
If Vegeta didn't cause Gohan to get injured than Super Perfect Cell vs Gohan would have been more like SSJ Goku vs Full Power Frieza. Cell would sure as hell fight back and get some good hits in, but ultimately Gohan would still be too much for him and Cell would still lose.
As much as I love Cell he's not as strong as Gohan no matter how you look at it.

It was much more similar and maybe even symbolic of Piccolo jumping in front of Gohan during the Saiyan saga.
ultimate gohan needs to fuse with vegeta.
I just love the expressions on Gohan's face when he's super Saiyan 2.

@Martin Ramirez Pretty much, Goku was actually a 'Guide' to help Gohan defeat Cell. Nothing about giving Ki, he was just there because of King Kai's telepathy, that's it

@@NarutoExplained With Kaioken he damn well could beat Majin Vegeta or even Buu.

I was going to say the same thing lol
The biggest thing too is that Gohans SSJ2 strength from the cell arc became the benchmark for a SSJ2 for all of the saiyans for the rest of the series
Gohan reminds me of broly, a child sayain with a huge amount of potential and power.

Finally! Teen Gohan is my favorite Gohan! Loved his haircut looking similar to Goku, yet unique looking for himself. Badass. 😎

I agree that Gohan wins that fight 1v1, but to deny Vegeta’s effect on the outcome is bull shit.
pheralphitness only happened in the anime
BJ J didn’t happen in the manga
Love gohan’s line “I’ve been waiting for you to turn it up” to cell while he is powering up to maximum
Goku with nappa's mouth beam
Goku with freizas death beams
Goku even reacting to his own technqiues when trainign for namekt in that small capsule ship
Goku again with Ginyu's point blank beam
17 managing to react to being surrounded by Piccolos hellzone grenades
If Cell was stronger than Gohan, he woudl have just bounced back, but he never did. like you said, his own kamehameha was blown out, completley overcome pretty much instantly.
Trunks: *dies*
Vegeta: "You thought I was gonna go SSJ2, but it was me, Vegeta"
mudamudamuda!
Super Saiyan 2 Gohan vs Cell is the greatest fight and arc in the entire series. A literal life or death struggle where you could really feel the urgency. This was Toriyama at the height of his powers.
