    I like the idea of using the great looking wooden grips on a gun with very little recoil. The grips really complement the gun, very nice.

    I guess I'm an enthusiast. I ordered a 617 with a 6 inch barrel. I have two Ruger MKIVs, but no revolver plinkers. I hated that I had to order it, but after going to four of my LGS, not one had it in stock. I've got my fingers crossed that I'll receive one with no quality control issues, but who knows with modern day Smith and Wesson.

    These are the best .22 revolver on the market. Tolerances are tight and .22 is dirty so a brush is good to have. Love my 617.

    Yes there are cheaper options out there I wouldn’t necessarily say more versatile. Most modern autos are designed to shoot high velocity rounds where the revolver can safely shoot shorts longs and long rifle ammunition . Great video

    Lucky you! I just bought the 43c for $699.95, and the model 63 was $799.95, both J frames. By the way first trip to the range, both revolvers failed to function properly, both sent back it Smith for a 5 week stint, very nice.

      Yeah. We've all been through that. There's always another gun we "need" to get regardless of logic or price. LOL.

    I have model 17 and the newer 617. Both are exceptional . Finest rimfire revolvers made IMHO

    Love S&W but I bought the Ruger GP100 22 LR 10 round with a five and one half inch semi-lug barrel. Has a recessed cylinder and three points of cylinder support versus only two points of cylinder support for the S&W. Tyler Gun Works hand engraved mine as well as an accuracy job and action job. Carry melt treated and beveled the front of the cylinder.

    I like the way the 4" looks as opposed to the 6". Still thinking about getting the 6 inch for more accuracy

      I have all three, 4” , 6” , and the 8” the six inch is my fave .
      But when compared to to the 4” only by a very small margin as the 4” is faster for me on target transition.

      If you're into target shooting, you might like the 6" barrel because of the longer sight radius.

    I have the 4 and 6 inch barrel 617. For some reason that doesn't make sense to me the 4 inch barrel is more destructive on small game then the 6 inch model. Should be the other way around.

      You have to take off the grips and look. Brownells did a quick video on it.

    What's the cleanest 22lr ammo?

    • @MysteryWheelgunner
      @MysteryWheelgunner  4 роки тому +1

      I find the following brands to be relatively clean shooting: CCI Standard Velocity, CCI Mini Mag, CCI Blazer (40gr). Newer CCI Blazer has a 38gr bullet. Not sure if that newer batch shoots as clean as the older ones. Federal Champion shoots okay. Still kind of dirty, but not as bad as the Golden Bullets.

      @@MysteryWheelgunner thanks very helpful. I really enjoyed your review but must say that I disagree with your assertion that this is a collectors item. Revolvers chambered in 22lr are NOT collector guns. They have some very practical applications in urban settings and for people who aren't practicing at the range at least once a month (like they should be). Specifically, revolvers negate the lower reliability of rimfire cartridges. The only way to increase cycling reliability in a 22 semi is with a lighter slide. This has been attempted by umarex, gsg and others through the use of pot metal; which dramatically impacts the reliability and structural integrity of the firearm. Second, the 22lr cartridge allows for K frame revolvers such as this and the Ruger sp101 22 to carry a 10 shot capacity. This is especially useful because the cylinder can accept other permutations of the 5.7mm diameter bullet. Semis can not do this. Third, 22lr is used widely in rifles, making it a good round to stock for multiple use cases in addition to that reliable revolver you keep. Fourth, 22lr revolvers are excellent candidates for laser grips because that all important first shot can be made nearly silently in single action mode with extremely good accuracy (I will say that lasers are a mixed bag, however).
      Anyway, great review but 22lr revolvers are more than just collectors items. I don't think they really get the love they deserve so I'm here to stick up for them.

    How is this for conceal carry in Fanny pack

    • @MysteryWheelgunner
      @MysteryWheelgunner  2 роки тому

      It's still a pretty big and heavy gun. Think of a Model 19 but with a full underlug. That will be about the size and weight of the 617.
