I guess I'm blessed...bought the 6" and 4" this year and they were perfect out of the box. Painted the front sights red for my aging old-man eyes. Be careful with lighter springs, rimfires require a stiffer one for good primer strikes.

I've been hearing about these issues, I'm a Smith & Wesson fan, but because I kept hearing these issues, I purchased the Ruger LCR and LCRX revolvers in both 22LR and 22WMR. Zero issues with any of them. Great triggers too. I still want a 4 inch 617, but will only purchase it if I can see it in my hands to inspect it BEFORE purchase. Thank you for the review.

I bought the 4" back in January. It also had issues with lead blow back and more light strikes than was normal. After I fired about 2500 rounds thru it, I contacted S&W and they sent me a return label. The gun was gone for exactly 7 weeks. They had replaced the yolk and the main spring tension screw. The gun is now perfect. A very smooth double action trigger at 9lbs, 8oz. I have also. Bought the new Colt King Cobra target 22, which has a terrible trigger, but otherwise is a good solid gun. Overall, I like the 617 better than the Colt.

I’m currently debating between the 2. Esthetically speaking I like the appearance of the Colt better. I think I’d be content with either. It may come down to price. Cheers!

I am not happy with mine one out of ten rounds is a dud. I will not be happy with having to take it back either.

@@sherlock1895smith e colt sono più o meno sullo stesso livello. Come usato la colt King Cobra costa un po' di più

🇦🇺😎👍Nice. I’ve had one since 2012. Mine has shot about 10000 rds without fault. I replaced the grip with a Hogue grip and I adjusted the spring to lighten the trigger. Great choice🏁. Previously owning a GP 100 and then purchasing the S&W I did notice the finish on the 617 was a little bit yesterday. Dull stainless , dodgey looking trigger ,not to mention how stiff it was. But alls good now.

The high price point is to cover the cost to repair IF it has to be returned. They are probably 50/50 good/bad ratio.

After watching this video, I was wondering how the repairs on the 4” came out? I thought maybe you would have done a follow-up video on that, but there is nothing I could find listed in your channel line up. I purchased the 617 - 4 inch a couple months ago and have been mostly satisfied. It does seem like it gets more light strikes than I would expect. I use CCI Mini Mag Target, which runs flawlessly in my Ruger Mark IV’s and several other semi-autos.

Ho provato la versione con canna da 4", che è più maneggevole, più bilanciato e meno pesante della versione da 6", anche se inevitabilmente un po' meno preciso.
Ottime prestazioni comunque e sempre grande affidabilità. Un pezzo che il collezionista deve per forza avere

Thanks for the review. I've heard similar stories and I agree that this could tip the cart. there is to much good competition out there to let quality slip away. I personally have several S&W pistoles and have always felt they were the best in my collection of all the other brands. They must have lost some of the older craftsman a couple of years ago during the nations debacle and haven't had time for the newbies to catch up. S&W has been around for 150 years, so I hope they get it together. The one time I had a problem, their service department fixed the problem and it was free including shipping. That gun is now back to new condition again. To anyone who has a problem, don't hesitate to get the problem fixed by them, even though it's a pain, they are second to none.

Thank you for your informative video. Was considering this, the Ruger gp100, and Colt now has the King Cobra. The S&W seems to the only one available. Your video may explain why.

I concur about their QC. I recently bought the 43C and it had issues and is currently at S&W for repair. I hope they fix it because I love everything about it. It’s crazy light, the trigger is heavy but very smooth, and it’s accurate. For $800 dollars it shouldn’t have any problems, especially when I have a Kel Tec that runs flawlessly and it was $200. I am considering selling mine when it gets back unless they do a great job on it like yours. Unfortunately, I already purchased the Speed Beez package for $100.

No, they cover the cost for everything, it’s just frustrating. It works great now, but they did a lot of work that should be addressed before they let it leave the floor.

I bought the 6 and 4 inch and the target semi. The model 41 had to go back. It was a total mess. The 4-inch had machining debris under the side plate and a rough star. The 6-inch worked okay, needed a break in and lighter spring kit.
Smith is done making metal guns. They seem to have moved on to plastic striker fired models.
The good that came of this is I learned how to work on my own firearms and got rid of the 41.

So you bought two brand new Smith revolvers and both had to go back for repair. Really like the 617 but those odds of bad QC are just a bit too high considering the price on these.

When I use higher velocity ammo I have this issues because the shell casing expand more in the cylinder. I find standard or lower velocity ammo does not have this issue. This might help you. Good luck.

literally everyone I know that has a SW had to send it in. Don't get me wrong, I love them, they are what they are, but yeah. There is no quality control in my personal experience.

The 4 inch has better balance. They are both heavy and very accurate. I sold the 4 inch and still have the 6 inch because I was able to achieve a much better trigger pull with the 6 inch and I like the esthestics of it better.

If you don't like a really front end heavy gun you won't like the 6 inch.
