  • This beginner's tutorial will show you how to make a magic circle, a.k.a. magic ring or adjustable loop.
    Skills needed:
    Chain (ch), double crochet (dc)
This is an invaluable technique when you're making a project in the round. Whether it's amigurumi, a bag, hats, coasters, etc., you'll want to begin by using a magic circle.
I begin by showing you how to complete a magic circle. Then I slow it down and carefully go over all of the steps. Finally, I demonstrate how to work stitches into the magic circle.
When practicing, I recommend using any "bulky" (5) or "super bulky" (6) weight yarn to practice. Use the hook size that your skein of yarn recommends. Lightly colored yarn is easier to see, which aids in understanding the anatomy of the stitches.

Hi, everyone! For this tutorial you’ll need to know how to chain and double crochet. I have videos for these techniques so if you need to, start there first. The magic circle can be completed with any stitch (sc, hdc, dc, tr, etc.). I am using the double crochet stitch in this video to help explain the initial turning chain. This video is for the magic circle technique only. Next steps can be found in the pattern you’re using. Let me know if you have questions!

This is by far the best video to learn how to make a magic circle! It's the only tutorial I've found that uses a large yarn, and goes slow enough for me to understand! Thank you!

Oh my gosh, I'm so glad that you used such large yarn to show this. People always use these little tiny thin yarns in their tutorials and I can't see a thing. This was so crazy helpful, thank you!

Thank you for using thick yarn that is a colour that I can see what your doing and not moving at 70 miles an hour. I can now begin projects that I have previously avoided. New sub👍

Beginner here. I must have watched 10 magic circle videos last night, and tried about 20x. I can now easily see what I was doing wrong, that no one else explained: the initial chain is the first stitch; where to put the extra yarn, and by using that crazy bulky yarn, actually being able to SEE the thing come together. Thank you so much!

I know lots of people have said this, but this is THE tutorial for me - thank you! What saved me was you twisted the ring... I think I was stitching across the wrong edge. This is because it's well explained, and you have filmed it really well too - no fingers in the way, everything is very visible. Really great tutorial, thank you (I have subscribed)

Hold the end of the yarn down, "working end of the yarn" means the rest of the yarn you're about to work with, the yarn attached to your yarn cake/ball/skein, etc.

Honestly I have watched about 6 different videos and honestly this one helped me the most because I could actually pull it close with out it knotting up. My issue was keeping the dang on circle from twisting and the chain piece from being crotchet with it.

I've been looking for a tutorial about how to make the magic circle for a couple of days... UA-cam recommended this & I've watched it with some hope... Yet, I was so satisfied that it was very suitable for beginners all the way, so thank youuu so much! You have saved me hehe & I've subscribed to your channel as well 🥰🥰👍

Thanks! The bulky yarn helped. I realized I was getting the tail too caught up in there and not doing a double crochet. I just tried it now and I got my perfect circle! Liked and subscribed
