Given the Wii U to Swtich's home menu screen, should this not be titled "The Evolution and Devolution of Nintendo Home Menus." Cool to see you cover this topic as it's something I have thought about before, usually in the context of remembering how much I liked the Wii U. 1:59 - Menu's that unfortunately have the habit of constantly changing. Microsoft never seem comfortable settling on one idea for their home menu screen; even the Xbox One and Series presentation has been altered several times. 3:42 - That's strange; I guess I was incorrectly labelling the GameCube's menu screen as it's home screen, but given you have to hold a button to access it, I guess it doesn't count as a home menu. Also, I strangely adore that original look to the DS there. 5:13 - I do recall actually using the DS Alarm Clock feature to wake myself up in the morning for school. I would dread the thought of not getting up before 6AM. 7:08 - I never owned a DSi (I rarely buy the mid-gen upgrades) so it's cool see where the roots of the 3DS home screen lay. The download screen with the Mario characters is super charming. 10:47 - The Wii U's home screen was my favourite home menu, truly feeling alive and personalised when Miiverse was active. Thanks to the Gamepad, it split all your game options and your Miiverse social options nicely. 12:16 - Yeah, there's no charm to the Switch's home screen and the lack of folders makes it annoying to navigate at times.
Great comment once again! I was considering putting the GameCube into the video but it never really felt like a home screen to me but I guess it does count? There’s folders on the switch now! It came very late but it’s here
@@BoringBrandon1 It's a strange one to classify but it's certainly iconic, if for that boot-up to it's menu screen alone. Are those the same folders that can't actually be displayed on the Switch's Home Menu and you need to click on a separate screen to bring up? I remember those being introduced and not being all too useful compared to the 3DS/Wii U ones, which were front and centre.
I've been looking for this too. 1 year later hoping to see videos like this again. I hope to see something more innovative of the next Nintendo console
Actually the first console to have a Home Screen was the Tiger Gamecom, but Saturn technically was the first to have a user interface, but it was summoned only without a disc. The Sega CD and N64DD had one, but was ADDons. The PSX had the first xCrossMediaBar, but for me is more a TVset than a Console.
You know your videos are as boring as heck when they can pry me away from Tears of the Kingdom for more than two seconds! Keep up the great work of making us miserable! Also, I would be interested if you did a follow-up on this video based on the menus of the Super Smash Bros. games, as they seem to have their own definition of what constitutes "What there is to do."
-°Switch home screen may be garbage compared to every other home screen nintendo ever created but its still way better than playstation and xbox(besides the og xbox and ps3) home screens... so much bloat. Thank you all for watching! Which home menu is your favorite?
Keep up with me on Twitter: twitter.com/boringbrandon_
Why do you use scott the woz type of vid I kinda like it
mines got to be wii u
The switch has the personality of a brick
Yep😅
The system updates are pretty dull too, wish Nintendo added some new features
Let’s hope the switch 2 fixes that
Switch is a bit boring lately
Don’t disrespect it by comparing it to the switch.
Nintendo 3DS had the best home menu. Real folders, icons, custom themes, something the Nintendo Switch should have.
I LOVE HOME MENUS
I LOVE RELAXING WHILE BEING SURROUNDED BY AMBIENT MUSIC AND THE SOUNDS OF MIIS CHATTING
Fun fact: Mod your Wii with Pretendo and you can probably bring back miiverse meaning you can see all of the post on the home menu
The Wii and Wii U menus will always be my favorites
i love this dudes vibe
My man forgot that the gamecube exists, thinking the DS was the first homescreen on a Nintendo console.
Hmm I never thought of the GameCube home screen as a Home Screen like the Wii, PS3 or Switch
@@BoringBrandon1
So I know this is irrelevant, but pico chat is now online for phones
@@jaredjoe133 GREAT NEWS!
@@BoringBrandon1 I'd argue it's a more featured home screen than the DS lite's
Here’s to hoping that the Switch 2 brings back home music
