For anyone planning to play switch lite or primarily handheld mode, a grip case (a case that specifically makes it easier on your hands to hold the console) is a 100% must! Otherwise you run the risk of severe carpol tunnel really quick. But a grip case will make it much more comfortable to play. It essentially gives you grips on the console like the pro controller without adding so much bulk you cant still fit it into a carry on case like he showed. A good one also has the added benefit of protecting the console from everyday wear and tear that a carry case cant protect if from. Same way that a phone case protects your phone. Carry case is good for storage on the go, grip case is a must for play on the go, and in general.
Just in case it isn't obvious why I'm saying this, the console itself isn't much thicker than your cell phone and it does hurt your hands to hold it after awhile. Grip case adds some bulk to grip onto so you aren't hurting yourself.
I just got my OLED this week, and I was of the opinion "I'll buy a gripcase if it hurts". It. Does. Especially on the middle of the palm which is where the console's weight usually gets supported. Get yourself some sort of grip (I'm mostly using the grip from the box) alongside the screen protector asap.
I would recommend a Satisfye grip. I have one for my switch and it makes playing in handheld mode super comfortable. It even came with a larger case so you can leave the grip on when you take it out and about.
@@tracialx definitely not a guarantee, but I find it hurts less and will probably lessen the damage. Idk, I'm not a doctor nor an expert. I just know it does help comfort wise at the very least.
my older brother bought me a nintendo switch oled version for my birthday in late june, so i’ve had it for just around a month. here is my more simple of a version guide about it! (these first 2 instructions are only useful if you are getting it on your own accords, not if u were gifted it like me) 1. make sure you really want it! the last thing you need is you get it and it’s not all you had wished 2. find the colour you want! there’s the simple red and blue, black, white, and more 3. instead of buying a game straight away, try out the free games, like fall guys and fortnite. then after a while, you can get a game. first game we got was super mario bros deluxe. as mario’s a classic childhood game. and soon we are planning to get mario kart and mario wonder! 4. try out all the different ways to play, handheld, tabletop, tv screen, 2 players. 5. if you have other family members who would love to play with you, you could consider getting 2 more joy cons! that’s all i have and i hope it’s helpful ❤
This was a wonderful video. I was able to show this to my mom and dad so they could understand the console. They call everything video game related "the Nintendo" so this helped them a lot. The only criticism I have is that the music volume is a bit too loud drowning out your voice.
First time watching this video. Bro just made me buy switch 😅 you are good 😊 Everything I wanted to know was explained and games recommended was plus. Thanks bro 👊🏼
You don't understand how useful this info is 😁 I appreciate the time you took putting this all together plus I love your dive into great games including the indy ones and online services! 👍👍👍
Well made video, very informative. Would love to hear more in depth reviews on games new switch users should consider buying, specifically indies that mightn't be as well known
I'm not sure we'll get a chance to do game reviews on this channel, since we'll be focusing on user guides for marquee products. But let me know if you want to know more about any of the Indie games I talked about. Maybe we can do a UA-cam short as a follow up or I can just respond and tell you more details.
I remember when the switch came out and everyone was talking about how weak it's processor is and how few games there were... Fast forward a few years, and most people I talk to would say the switch has by far the best selection of games on any console, and, importantly, all of them play seamlessly and look amazing. The thing is... I've played plenty of games that are more detailed and technically complex than anything the switch could handle, and yet the switch is always what I come back to when I want to experience something genuine and meaningful. For example, I tell people that getting a switch for BOTW alone is 100% worth it. There's so much symbolic meaning that connects to your emotions, and it's all sitting on a true masterpiece of a game (world, controls, depth of freedom, etc). I understand many people want the latest and greatest in tech, and that's understandable, but some people want more than just an escape. With many Nintendo games, in a way, you can explore the truths of reality even deeper than our modern world normally allows us.
Gifted this to my granddaughter and didn’t know one thing about it. Watched you and so thankful I did. You are the best and made it so easy for me to understand. 😊
When I watched this I thought you would have had a couple hundred thousand subscribers! Amazing video that has made me so excited for my switch to arrive. Been playing on the lite for just under a year, so looking forward to playing on the big screen. Keep up the great content your enthusiasm is incredible!
Best video 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽. Original Super Nintendo was my first console, and just get the Oled yesterday to keep the memories 💯% born in 1986. thank’s for the video brother
Great video. My wife and I atill enjoy playing our Wii, but would like to upgrade to a newer system tobplayvon the big screen TV. Your video taught us that this is possible with the Switch. Before this I was thinking PlayStation might be thecway to go. It certainly doesn't look cheap to purchases all the equipment. However, if access to all the retro Nintendo games is possible (and will make my wife happy) so be it. We love playing together.
Thank you for starting out the video as if you're talking to a 43-year-old who doesn't understand new to them technology anymore. Because that is exactly what I am. 😂👍
I’m a Gen X’er and I just bought the Oled version today. I’m new to console gaming, so this video is helpful. Thanks for your game suggestions, too. I’m not even really sure what games I will like to play, I just have some ideas. And yes, mushrooms are awful. P.S. the Oled bundle at Costco had lots of extras like a screen protector, case, 128 GB card, and the 12 month family membership so I think it’s worth it.
got a switch this holiday and kinda freaked out about not knowing what to do since this was my first nintendo device 😅 been looking at videos of how to take care of it and how to have the best experience and this one helped a lot with the latter topic! thank you so much!
One game I definitely had fond memories of playing was Blaster Master Zero It was basically one of those games that was being covered quite a bit in the Switch’s first year, but soon got dropped from the conversation *hard,* even with its two sequels having released. I wouldn’t sleep on the first game, if I were you.
Appreciate the 'basic' review. Perfect for us 50 somethings who just originally purchased for Tetris while flying! Been a while since gaming on my Amstrad in the 80's!! Thabk you, will look at a few of your recs 👍
Thank you so much for this. Ive been playing games for years but had heard there is so much to the Switch so your video was ideal to avoid getting overwhelmed with options / choice!!
Can you please do a video like this on the steam deck? I love how well informed this is, I have a switch and have had it for years but you still reminded me of some very important things 🥰
I’m looking to get a Nintendo switch in a months time and this video has really helped me out, especially as I haven’t touched a Nintendo console since the GameBoy advance.
This is the first video of yours I've seen and I have to say, you're very professional, while still being mildly witty - well done. I'm completely new to video games again. I mean, I think I played my PSX more than any other person on the planet and play a ton on the PS2 and GBA. Then the last console I bought was a Wii until life got busy with house and eventually children. Now I look at what's available and I'm in awe about how much has changed. I like the way things used to be - have never been a fan of renting/subscriptions or downloads/updates - have always preferred a CD or cartridge with a complete/final version of the game. So I feel like the Switch is the way to go for me. What I'm wondering is: 1 - Is two player possible with the Switch Lite, without any additional accessories? As in, does it provide a split screen and you just play the handheld in a manner like an old school, sit down arcade machine? 2 - I see you mention you choose your profile prior to purchasing online games. Does this mean the game is only available on that profile / each profile needs to purchase the game individually? 3 - Are all online purchasable games available in cartridge mode (which therefore would avoid the potential problem with question 2)? Thanks again!
Thanks for watching! 1. You can play two player on the Switch Lite, but you need a second controller. 2. Once you buy a game on a console, anyone can play the game on that console. And you can sign in on another console and play it. But others can't play it on these secondary consoles. 3. Lots of games are still purchasable as a cartridge, but not all. Generally speaking, indie games are not as the cost of shipping a physical version doesn't make sense for them.
I know you already got a response from the OP, but I feel it's also really really important to note that save data for individual games is also linked to the Nintendo profile/account on the device. This is even more important if you have a Nintendo online sub and cloud save features.
Thank you so much for this video. My son wants one for Christmas & I know nothing about it. I’m pretty confident now on what to get. You explained things in a way that was very easy for me to understand. You’re a lifesaver. Thanks again! 😊
10th Subcriber!! This is honestly really creative and well made, I’ve had a switch for a few years now and it is as good as people say it is. Hoping for your success, excited to see what comes next!
Just bought switch today. I’ve never has a Nintendo before, always ps and Xbox. Bought a normal switch and Super Mario 3d worlds. It’s a great game. I’m really enjoying it 👍 Great review
This was really helpful! I just scored a used OLED Switch bundle after getting back into gaming via GeForce Now and Boosteroid. A 3 day binge of Dredge made me realize that all I'm looking for is great gameplay, and cartoonified graphics help the escapism I game for. PC gaming's grim hyperrealism and seeming de-emphasis on great core gameplay got old fast.
Welcome to the hobby! So the buttons might change a little bit depending on what game you're playing. But generally, you can navigate menus with the joystick. Then hit A to make your selection or hit B to go back. The plus button will open up menus or pause the game. Once you're in a game, you can hit the home button to go back to the main menu. The other little square button is a capture button. So you'll take a screenshot of the game you're playing. To start, I'd recommend charging both Joy Cons and putting them in the holder. And then start up the game you want to play or one of the ones I recommended. Most games will include a tutorial walking you through the buttons.
@@chickenmuffin I am learning Animal Crossing. I was used to seeing children in family playing Nintendo games. Even if I did not play myself. But this year I want to learn.
@@sonyas.1124 Very cool! How do you find that game. I bought this system for my kid because I want her screen time to be a bit more involved than just UA-cam. She is liking paw patrol and there’s lots of good games for her I could buy, but I find the console compelling too and want to try some. Can’t find many that seem good for adults though.
Just bought the Nintendo switch for my little sisters. This video was very helpful. I have one question about storage. Can I just buy a 1tb storage card and put it into the switch. From the beginning, or do I have to do that in the settings?
You shouldn't have any trouble installing a card from the get go. The slot should be under the kickstand. SanDisk is a good brand if you're still shopping. That said, you might have to format it in the settings. Sometimes the Switch will just recognize it. If not, head to the settings menu. Then System... Formatting options... Format MicroSD Card... Continue.
Great video as I’ve never used a switch before and just bought my daughter a Nintendo switch OLED. Thankfully now I can play games she likes with her in some multiplayer versions vs having her play games with me on my xbox360 that aren’t kid friendly. I love how you went through all the beginnings of how to turn it on to what games are really great to buy to start. Keep up the great video content!
Great review! 🙂 I've been seriously thinking of buying a Switch Lite version- but was just curious about the games, and even as you mentioned in the video, not all will work on the Lite. Do the physical games clearly show if they can be played on the Switch Lite?
The Switch Lite is compatible with all games that can be played in handheld mode. It's the vast majority of titles and most of the ones that don't are gimmicky: www.nintendolife.com/guides/which-switch-games-dont-work-with-nintendo-switch-lite. Maybe Google the title to be sure, but you're likely fine to jump in with most ordinary games.
Personally, I thought the online + expansion was a waste. I don’t really play the old Nintendo games like that. If you intend on playing them, for sure get it. Otherwise just stick to the regular online service. 20 for the year is unbeatable as well.
I don’t even own a Switch (yet) but UA-cam recommended this video to me and I had to watch every second because this guy is a natural born presenter 👏🏻 👌🏻🙌🏻
Great video, thanks! As a parent who hasn’t played video games sonde Xbox 360 this really helped with telling exactly what I needed without watching 12 videos to get the info.
I finally broke down and bought a switch because I'm a Zelda fan, so now yet another console to play my favorite game I still have my 64, gamecube and Wii, and every game in the Zelda universe made for those consoles of course I had to buy the next 2 games tears and Breath. I'm sure that another console will be in the near future as it seems that as soon as I catch up another release is around the corner
2 things I need to point out. 8bitdo Pro 2 controller, and the Satisfye grip are essential accessories. More important than the case I would argue, should your budget be tight. They aren't cheap, but once you experience them, you will wonder why they didn't cost another $20 at least. And even if they did, you would be happy to pay it. Now....here's a bit of info on both. Both available on Amazon. 1. The 8bitdo Pro 2 controller is the most comfortable and versatile controller available for the Switch. It's also compatible with MacOS, Android, Windows, and Steam. Comes with a charger, in several cool colors, and optional grip pads for the joysticks. I could go on and on, but trust me. You won't regret it. 2. A Satisfye grip is the best, and most comfortable way to play in handheld mode. It feels like you are holding a PS5 controller. Without the grip, your hands are likely to cramp, and it's like you are holding a thin book. Once you try the Satisfye grip, you will NEVER play in handheld mode again without it. And you will wonder why you ever did play without it. They make them for all models of the Switch.
Thanks for this video! I have never been into video games but I have two sons who are now old enough to start requesting them and they are begging for a Switch. Since the last (and only) system I owned was an Original Nintendo, I am literally clueless. But everything you described and displayed in this video was very straight forward. I foresee a Switch in their future. :)
Thank you so much for this. I am planning to buy my husband the Nintendo Switch for Christmas (we do not have any consoles) and this helped me understand the differences with the original, lite and OLED. Looking forward to us playing many games in the future
I got a switch lite . I already have a PS5 & Series X . After not owning a Nintendo system in years , I just wanted a good portable system that allowed me to revisit SNES/NES & try the big Nintendo games like Metroid, Zelda, Mario . 🤔
Love this video. I am so new at playing Nintendo (I've known Nintendo for years. I do have children) I decided this year for my bday to buy the nintendo switch OLED. Hopefully I will get the hang of it. I bought Animal Crossings- new horizon, Zelda that you mentioned and other fun ones too. I feel like a kid again..lol. My generation knew Atari!!😳😂

You have won over 2 old gals from Australia. We won’t be able to visit your shop but we will visit your UA-cam. I was to frightened to set up the new switch but after your smiling lovely face and easy instructions here I go. Bless your little cotton socks and Happy New Year.
Thanks! Really helpful as I'm about to resume gaming after a decades long hiatus, and specifically only have interest (for now) in the simple joys of Nintendo and Zelda. This helped me decide which switch to get 🔥🔥
You actually can pair joycons to your switch lite, there are little buttons (and I mean SMALL) on the sides of the controller (both joycons) but if you need them I would say just get a regular switch

But let me know if you want to know more about any of the Indie games I talked about. Maybe we can do a UA-cam short as a follow up or I can just respond and tell you more details.
I don't think the switch is the best console for indies
I stand by my assessment, but I'd be curious to know which one you'd take and why.
@@youjustboughta Xbox would be the best out of the 3 but if we count the steam deck its better just due yo the amount of indies and how cheap they are
Thank you for dumbing this down. I know next to nothing about this system so I appreciate you covering the basics and explaining the options.
You did an amazing job explaining every little detail. I've learned so much from your video. Well done, sir.
When I watched this I thought you would have had a couple hundred thousand subscribers! Amazing video that has made me so excited for my switch to arrive. Been playing on the lite for just under a year, so looking forward to playing on the big screen. Keep up the great content your enthusiasm is incredible!
I'm very surprised your channel has only 570 subs! The way your videos are set up make them very informative yet easy to follow.
Now he has almost 2.5k, really epic indeed!

I've watched so many Nintendo switch stuffs for years now and guess what?? I've bought mine today!!!
Best video 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽. Original Super Nintendo was my first console, and just get the Oled yesterday to keep the memories 💯% born in 1986. thank’s for the video brother
Bought the switch oled and I’m new to gaming bought me a Mario Odyssey freaking can’t stop playing love it
This video is very high quality!, it also helped me to accept the switch isn't a console for me thank you!
This was extremely helpful for a novice like me who knows nothing about consoles but is interested in obtaining a gaming device to occupy some time.
I just bought one yesterday. I had no idea I would love it as much as I do. This thing is the best!
Thank you for starting out the video as if you're talking to a 43-year-old who doesn't understand new to them technology anymore. Because that is exactly what I am.
😂👍
Same here! I am 57 and needed that too!
The 60-second run down was IMPRESSIVE! Well done, you've earned the like I was already going to give this video. Keep it up and thanks for the video.
I’m a Gen X’er and I just bought the Oled version today. I’m new to console gaming, so this video is helpful. Thanks for your game suggestions, too. I’m not even really sure what games I will like to play, I just have some ideas. And yes, mushrooms are awful. P.S. the Oled bundle at Costco had lots of extras like a screen protector, case, 128 GB card, and the 12 month family membership so I think it’s worth it.
got a switch this holiday and kinda freaked out about not knowing what to do since this was my first nintendo device 😅
been looking at videos of how to take care of it and how to have the best experience and this one helped a lot with the latter topic!
thank you so much!
One game I definitely had fond memories of playing was Blaster Master Zero
It was basically one of those games that was being covered quite a bit in the Switch’s first year, but soon got dropped from the conversation *hard,* even with its two sequels having released. I wouldn’t sleep on the first game, if I were you.
Yeah, I haven't heard of that one. Thanks for the recommendation. Will check it out.
Just bought a switch for my grandson and bought another for myself. I'm so excited 😊. Thanks for the great info!!
This guy is totally awesome. Great descriptions of all of them to help people decide which. Everything well done. Thanks much!!!
Appreciate the 'basic' review. Perfect for us 50 somethings who just originally purchased for Tetris while flying! Been a while since gaming on my Amstrad in the 80's!! Thabk you, will look at a few of your recs 👍
Looking forward to seeing contents like this in the future.
What I'm wondering is:
1 - Is two player possible with the Switch Lite, without any additional accessories?
Thanks! I just bought the OLED. Excited! Great video!
Subbed! These a very high quality videos. Your channel is gonna grow fast I’m sure of it
Thank you so much for this video. My son wants one for Christmas & I know nothing about it. I’m pretty confident now on what to get. You explained things in a way that was very easy for me to understand. You’re a lifesaver. Thanks again! 😊
Awesome video. Great personality. You deserve a million subs definitely. Very detailed video love it.
Getting a switch in the next couple of days i needed a video like this to watch thank you
10th Subcriber!!
I’m really enjoying it 👍
Great review
This was really helpful! I just scored a used OLED Switch bundle after getting back into gaming via GeForce Now and Boosteroid. A 3 day binge of Dredge made me realize that all I'm looking for is great gameplay, and cartoonified graphics help the escapism I game for. PC gaming's grim hyperrealism and seeming de-emphasis on great core gameplay got old fast.
Just finished Dredge myself. I thought it was awesome.
I am not even a gamer, nor am I planning to be, and I watched the whole video, you sir, are awesome!
As a 1st time player age 71. I need info on what the buttons do on Joy controllers.
Interesting. What inspired you to play? What are you playing?
@@chickenmuffin I am learning Animal Crossing. I was used to seeing children in family playing Nintendo games. Even if I did not play myself. But this year I want to learn.
@@sonyas.1124 Very cool! How do you find that game. I bought this system for my kid because I want her screen time to be a bit more involved than just UA-cam. She is liking paw patrol and there’s lots of good games for her I could buy, but I find the console compelling too and want to try some. Can’t find many that seem good for adults though.
@@chickenmuffin Animal Crossing is good for adults, I know people in there 30s who are playing game since they where children.
Just bought an OLED and have been playing Mario Odyssey! This helps with what to do next, thank you
Just bought the Nintendo switch for my little sisters.
Continue.
@@youjustboughta thank you for help.
I've been seriously thinking of buying a Switch Lite version- but was just curious about the games, and even as you mentioned in the video, not all will work on the Lite.
@@youjustboughta Thank you so much! That link is fantastic! 😁
Getting a switch tomorrow I’ve got this video saved and ready
Personally, I thought the online + expansion was a waste. I don’t really play the old Nintendo games like that. If you intend on playing them, for sure get it. Otherwise just stick to the regular online service. 20 for the year is unbeatable as well.
As a mom whose kid wants one for Christmas, thank you! This was incredibly helpful
Nintendo is genius
i got this as a gift, and I like old timey games. I'm 70! I lost my DS XL, so I was given a Switch. you were very helpful!
Little Timmy 💀
I don’t even own a Switch (yet) but UA-cam recommended this video to me and I had to watch every second because this guy is a natural born presenter 👏🏻 👌🏻🙌🏻
Great video, thanks! As a parent who hasn’t played video games sonde Xbox 360 this really helped with telling exactly what I needed without watching 12 videos to get the info.
I'm buying a Switch the first week of December, and this video was very informative!!!!!
Thank you for this video. Just bought by own Switch as an early birthday gift for myself and this video was super helpful.
U are a true gem in the game industry. Subscription earned.
This host has a lot of charisma. Very welcoming and informative.
Nice clear voice, well done program.😊
@11:57 You can also get a USB C Adapter and use PS4/5 and XBX Controllers.
Duuuuude. Am old guy and just bought an OLED Version. Love it.
About to get my first Nintendo switch oled Tuesday
I am a PlayStation guy this such a new experience to me
Nice video by the way
thank you for posting this, as non-gamers, my family and I enjoyed the introduction to the Nintendo switch world!
Thank you so much for this. I am planning to buy my husband the Nintendo Switch for Christmas (we do not have any consoles) and this helped me understand the differences with the original, lite and OLED. Looking forward to us playing many games in the future
This video was absolutely incredible I've really been interested in the switch lately and you've answered all the questions I had lol thank you
I got a switch lite .
Great video and great energy. Glad i watched.
Just finished college and got myself a sweet job. Now I can finally afford a Switch. Great review, thank you.
Thanks for making this video. My husband and I are looking to likely get the OLED model for our daughter for Xmas, mainly so we can all play at times. This was very helpful!
I purchased the switch oiled , has not arrived yet. I’m 66 years old and love retro Nintendo games, I’m single, which online package do I get, it’s just me playing the games, they keep my mind sharp, your great on UA-cam, thankx
You have won over 2 old gals from Australia.
We won’t be able to visit your shop but we will visit your UA-cam.
I was to frightened to set up the new switch but after your smiling lovely face and easy instructions here I go.
Bless your little cotton socks and Happy New Year.
The mushrooms comment was all I needed about your credibility... you are an unwavering oracle of truth sir. Well done.
Thanks! Really helpful as I'm about to resume gaming after a decades long hiatus, and specifically only have interest (for now) in the simple joys of Nintendo and Zelda.
This helped me decide which switch to get 🔥🔥
My partner bought me a new oled switch to replace my old one that had issues, a early birthday present, and I love it
You actually can pair joycons to your switch lite, there are little buttons (and I mean SMALL) on the sides of the controller (both joycons) but if you need them I would say just get a regular switch
11:58 - You can defiantly connect joycons to the switch Lite. Just tried it out myself with mine.
I have a switch for 5 years, and I still loved this video lol
Just ordered my new OLED Switch and greatly appreciate the detailed video. It helped me a great deal. Consider me subscribed!
I got the OLED Zelda edition. It’s so beautiful. I haven’t had a console in years. It’s absolutely beautiful. The games are expensive though! I only have two lol
Going to buy one next month and had no idea where to start. Your video is so informative for beginners. Thank you! 😀
Thank you! I'm 46 and I had to purchase one of these for my 9 year old nephew/Godson and I was so clueless.
