In terms of home consoles, the Wii U menu is for sure my favourite. The music was both catchy and relaxing, and it genuinely felt like a fun place to be. The Sega CD (Mega CD in Japan / EU) also had a startup and a menu. -On both the Sega CD/Mega CD Models 1 and 2, The Sega/Mega CD and Sega logo would dance around the screen (Though the animation set was different between models) -Music would also play in the background (Sega CD Models 1 and 2 had a different song, where as the Mega CD would have the same song, regardless of Model or region) -The Sega/Mega CD was also capable of playing Audio CD and CD+G disks. Nothing else that could be potentially distracting to some people. Also they probably wanted to keep the OS as small as possible, to give maximum amount of resource to application as possible(and also reduce attack surface from security perspective).
I appreciate the video but had an admittedly nerdy cringe when you said "we're just going to skip to the PlayStation" and completely ignored the boot-up sequences and/or menus of Sega CD, Turbo Duo, 3DO, et cetera.
Original Xbox is where it’s at it just made the games feel so much more magical and had tons of personality, that alien mysterious aura really made booting up into halo made it feel was truly a magical experience. Nowadays booting up a console just feels like a soulless corporate entertainment box with way too many squares.
Did you know Xbox runs on Windows? The original Xbox runs on Windows 2000, the Xbox 360 runs on Windows 2000 too, the Xbox one runs on Windows 8 Core or Windows 10 Core depending on the your OS version number and the Xbox Series X/S runs on Windows 10 Core.
i personally loved the XMB. i think it was both really cool to have all the settings available to the user (i mean, at launch you could straight up boot linux on the PS3... although that got taken away), so it is the only game console OS to both fulfill it's easy to use/intuitive purpose and to not feel dumbed down. Like it feels like an actual operating system and not the menu of a children's toy. Don't get me wrong, i love some of the more childish menus too, and they definetly have a place, but the PS3/PSP menu made me feel like i had some weird kind of responsibility when i was a little kid. The switch menu is a good example of one that somehow is both too dumbed down and un-childish/fun. It gets rid of a lot of the Nintendo charm of previous system menus while also feeling right at home on some VTech kid's tablet. It feels like i opened Microsoft Word and dragged some game box art in to add some color. It's at least fast and un-cluttered, but to me it has a lack of user-controllable settings while also having a lack of fun factor that Nintendo is known for. When a dark mode is a feature that is exciting, that's an issue for a game console IMO. Themes could easily have made this way better, but Nintendo didn't ever do that. And as far as Xbox menus... the OG xbox dashboard and the Blades and NXE 360 dashboards (and kinect since it's the same thing as NXE) are good... and despite me actually liking Metro on almost every other Microsoft platform, i despise it on Xbox (despite it being the most nostalgic Xbox 360 dashboard for me as well). It just looks ugly and again, boring for a game console. (like it on Windows Phone and Windows 8/8.1, but not 10... i hated 10... i love windows 11 though... i have weird opinions). Nintendo (until the switch) has done every system menu right IMO.
10:47 It was a messy in launch console because Microsoft was forcing people to connect the Xbox into the internet 24/7. This meant that It didn't matter if some gamers didn't have internet, and even if they had they would have slow experiences on websites on other devices. The worst part is that you couldnt even share game discs due to "piracy". It was a mess.
I laughed so hard because whenever you just begun talking about Nintendo and said we are now going to talk about Nintendo, a Nintendo ad with the switch sound literally played
No one makes a good menu but Nintendo because Nintendo does pins front and center while everyone else does recents front and center We don't talk about the Switch
i really like the og fat ps1's cd player screen. something about the splash colours and the 3D-like circles for the buttons and track timing is really cool to me. the ps2's cd player visualizer with the rolling track-colour-coded cube was cool af too.

The Famicom Disk System’s startup wasn’t referred to as such in a compilation of console startups, and so I thought the NES had the Disk System’s startup screen until my MOM of all people told me I was wrong.
You not only called the original Xbox's dashboard "ugly" but you also forgot the other three Xbox 360 dashboards?! You know this is why I hate Nintendo defenders
fun fact: the PS1's button backgrounds (the background of the 2 buttons when you don't insert a disc) are actually randomized on startup, creating new RGB gradients each boot up.
PS1 PS2 GAMECUBE PS3 PS VITA PSP PS4 & PS5 have the best & greatest menus & startups ever = true Japanese feel......Long Live the amazing Japanese of Sony & PlayStation
I still conserve my Wii U, for me it's the last console from the Nintendo I loved. After Satoru Iwata passed away, Nintendo is not the same with the Switch sadly, as you said it doesn't have the uniqueness that characterized earlier Nintendo consoles.

Did you know Xbox runs on Windows? The original Xbox runs on Windows 2000, the Xbox 360 runs on Windows 2000 too, the Xbox one runs on Windows 8 Core or Windows 10 Core depending on the your OS version number and the Xbox Series X/S runs on Windows 10 Core.
wii and wii u had so much personality, then nintendo said "screw that we're going plain"
a neat thing about the ps2 menu is that I believe it can read memory card data to generate the pillars on the title screen
This was a great video.
Also,
I miss early 00’s Console UIs.
i personally loved the XMB. i think it was both really cool to have all the settings available to the user (i mean, at launch you could straight up boot linux on the PS3... although that got taken away), so it is the only game console OS to both fulfill it's easy to use/intuitive purpose and to not feel dumbed down.
Wii U gets the best menu ever, the plaza, pretendo network miiverse, music and everything
Kudos to you, your contents are amazing. Not to mention the quality of your videos are top notch very vibrant and sharp.
17:32 Faster load times and a UI that works on a small screen as well as a large screen, something Microsoft is still trying to perfect
Nimk, I just found your channel and you are super hilarious. I subscribed.
I laughed so hard because whenever you just begun talking about Nintendo and said we are now going to talk about Nintendo, a Nintendo ad with the switch sound literally played
Hey bro your channel is pretty underrated, you deserve more recognition
+1 sub
No one makes a good menu but Nintendo because Nintendo does pins front and center while everyone else does recents front and center
We don't talk about the Switch
The original Xbox's voice samples are actually distorted communications from the moon landing.
oh shit ur right. i hella thought it was SAM lol, it just sounds so similar
"if I wasn't a Nintendo freak I'd be a PlayStation guy" Me irl
i really like the og fat ps1's cd player screen. something about the splash colours and the 3D-like circles for the buttons and track timing is really cool to me. the ps2's cd player visualizer with the rolling track-colour-coded cube was cool af too.
How is this channel not at like 100k subs? I love these videos.
have been bingeing ur content, and you are incredibly underrated as a creator. only 10k subs? with this quality? you're gonna reach 1mill soon i know it
The 3DS and Wii U menus reign supreme
"...The Wii U, a console that, too be honest, deserves a better rap."
PRAISE THIS MAN!
(Oh and also if you still don't have a working gamepad there are multiple listings for them on eBay, Amazon, and the stuff)
i did end up getting a new gamepad later lol, thank goodness
@@nimk Now you can finally show us the system settings footage /j
as somebody who still somewhat regularily uses a wii u, I forgot that most people haven't experienced the wii u menu music,,, and man more people better watch this video to listen to it, seriously I do't get why everybody hates on the console the way they do
I love the XMB (PS3 menu) that has the confetti
i love this style of video. you deserve more views! subbed
Your channel is underrated. It deserves more popularity.
Sega Saturn is the first console to have a menu not the PS1
I loved this video, amazing from such a small youtuber!
The Wii U And the Wii are so nostalgic to me I wish I could be a kid again
The Famicom Disk System’s startup wasn’t referred to as such in a compilation of console startups, and so I thought the NES had the Disk System’s startup screen until my MOM of all people told me I was wrong.
didnt even have to watch 30 seconds to know that i fucking love this guy
just finished it after a few pauses and whatnot, this is now my favourite youtuber ever
You not only called the original Xbox's dashboard "ugly" but you also forgot the other three Xbox 360 dashboards?!
You know this is why I hate Nintendo defenders
i quite literally do mention the four 360 dashboards but whatever fits your narrative better i guess
thought this guy was scott the woz for a second...
The end was very Scott the Woz esque, I like it
Nothing will ever top the perfection that is the PS2 startup screen. And I will defend it with my life if I have to.
Just found your channel and can't stop watching bruv good shit
the play station 1 menu looks like something off of scratch
The new Xbox One menu is the exact same as the Xbox Series X menu.
So I should buy an XBOX One.
The one thing I liked using the Kinect for was navigating the Xbox 360's menu.
"Oh boy he dancin"
I think most places use 24 hour time as default. Here in the uk at least its rare to see things displayed in 12 hour
the PS1's console menu scared the hell out of me as a kid lmao
fun fact: the PS1's button backgrounds (the background of the 2 buttons when you don't insert a disc) are actually randomized on startup, creating new RGB gradients each boot up.
okayyyyy the just dances on the switch ate
Crazy how you go from "Ads on menu suck" to "ads in the menu, what can you expect?" within this video
4:09
In the background you can see eteled and by the way, I loved the In 5 Minutes: Wii Deleted You video, masterpiece.
Just found this channel and I'm enjoying your content. Keep it up
They're weird because they exist, but it's like that to let you have fun, but most importantly...
Make memories
halfway into the video and I was like: "he will not mention the mighty Dreamcast" later into the video: "Ok nevermind, thank you!
PS1 PS2 GAMECUBE PS3 PS VITA PSP PS4 & PS5 have the best & greatest menus & startups ever = true Japanese feel......Long Live the amazing Japanese of Sony & PlayStation
you forgot about the saturn from sega. Then again, I think sega america forgot about it too.
dang, when i had a ps2 as a kid, i was mesmerized by the "static strings" that i just watched it for hours one time.
I still conserve my Wii U, for me it's the last console from the Nintendo I loved. After Satoru Iwata passed away, Nintendo is not the same with the Switch sadly, as you said it doesn't have the uniqueness that characterized earlier Nintendo consoles.
love your commentary and the presentation. really reminds me of scott the woz and they way his videos are. really great work. keep it up!!
Sega Saturn: "Am I a joke to you?"
underated asf youtuber
Underrated af channel.
30 years old and the ps1 opening still sounds like the future
fun fact - the playstation logo on the second half of the ps1 startup is actually a 3d model, its just at an angle
Uma mistura dos designs antigos com a potência dos consoles atuais seria o ideal.
You missed the Saturn, and sega cd.
