I have preferred the lower range in my PHEVs because batteries are so bad for the environment. It depends so much on your user profile: for me the 'lower' range was enough for the vast majority of my driving which makes it optimal in the point of view of the environment. Even if you need to start up the ICE engine for a while pretty often, that still doesn't usually tilt the environmental balance yet. Batteries just are bad things for the environment, the less the better.

It will be great to see an AMG PHEV. A good sporty engine with 100km electric range for the daily driving, simply perfect.
A plug in hybrid with 100km range means significant reduction in greenhouse gasses during the week without range anxiety on weekends. Perfect. I am surprised plug in hybrids aren’t more popular.
Great review as always! Thnx Thomas. I still have a couple of questions, hopefully you will answer them:
- What is the bootspace of the PHEV (Also estate)
- Horsepower of the PHEV
- What is the weight of the PHEV in totall? (Also estate)
- How was the driving part in hybrid mode? Can we get a video of that? I’d like to know what the performance is of the PHEV, and also how the combustion engine and the electric engine work together.

Der Test und moderieren ist wie immer top !!! meine Kritik hat vor allem damit zu tun ist der absurde Klima Politik der Regierungen in Europa ! Autos mit Verbrennungsmotoren sind weniger schädlich zu produzieren und zu fahren als Elektroautos da sind die Studien sich weltweit einig !!
I would like to ask that between Mercedes C-Class and BMW 5 series which one has more beautiful HUD, which one displays more information and has a better view? I only saw the HUD on 5 series but I never had the chance to test a C-class with HUD.

Greetings! In the T model you will also lose height, but the thing is that it doesn’t matter so much there because you have an overall better height

Very different cars in my eyes. If you want sporty drive and are not concerned with range, then the BMW. If you want a more practical allround car and do not want to micro plan longer trips, then the Mercedes Phev.

Thomas, another great review! Thank you. I so wished that Mercedes would allow this long range PHEV be sold in the USA! We have a Honda Clarity PHEV with a 47 miles EV range and a 2021 Mercedes E350 gas engine car , but would love to have your reviewed PHEV C-class here in the states...

What about the height of the vehicle?
In the A and CLA clss PHEVs even the AMG line models were very high above the ground even wirh the Low package to "protect the batterys" this makes them look very ugly ... :( Does the C class have the lowering springs option? Or is it also very lifted

Danke! Ist natürlich kein Performance-Motor, aber man kommt gut mit zurecht! Macht Sinn wenn man die recht große PHEV-Batterie auch häufig laden kann
Thanks for the great video ! I am wondering with these plug-in electric vehicles, what happens with the engine in city driving, if it has to work from time to time. I suppose it will never reach "normal" working temperatures and will never run efficiently enough, is that right ?

@@autogefuehl This is interesting. So it is NOT good for the engine to just run for few minutes, but I guess you are not expected to do that, as the electric range should solve your commute needs. So the question then is for sport mode, as more spirited driving will turn on the engine from time to time, or does it always run in sports mode? Would also be interesting how this is handled for the amg models.
How do you service a plug in hybrid car ? I’m talking about the combustion engine? Is there two separate mileage counters one for ev and one for the combustion engine ?
How is it done ?
Interesting question. I ll talk to engineers about that, but no there are not 2 separate counters
It's one counter for both, and different producers give different warranty regarding mileage/time/battery life.
What is the maximum speed this car can go on batteries? When does it switch to petrol engine?

How long did it take to charge after being empty?
Only downside for switching to PHEV in most models so far is the 2-3h charging (or 6+ hours on normal home plug) which is way slower compared to full EV models (in terms of time to charge for range).
Half hour when fast charging on 50KW DC Charging
How fast can be charge at 150 kw stations???
Usable full electric range for a couple days worth of driving is the real solution. Still waiting on pricing but this looks like the car for me, if they manage it to keep it bellow 70k it'll be the car to get, and also with a diesel engine is a range monster.

does this car uses it's battery when driving 100 km/h or faster ? Or does it automatically switch using its gasoline (even when battery is not empty) ?
You can also drive it all electric on the motorway, I’m not sure about the threshold, but definitely faster than 100 km an hour

What a spectacular vehicle. The new C-class is definitely the best update in the whole range. I agree, that centre screen with its fiddly capacitance "buttons" is an overkill. Other than that, I love this C-class and another flawless review Thomas 🕺🥂.

So, how long time did it take to fill upp the battery again?
According to a mercedes press release it would take 30 minutes for a full charge with fast (dc) charging and two hours with slow (ac) charging

Last week a friend of mine bought Arteon, i sat in the car and told him - Thomas doesnt like sliders, he likes buttons and me too, and he was like - who is Thomas? :D

This is a perfect compromise. In my daily life, 100km electric means that I never need fossil fuel. The 5-6 times a year I drive longer distances, then I have the combustion engine and don't have to stress finding recharging stations.
Do not forget that the engine should not become oil dry. the oil probably needs to be pumped around the engine at regular intervals. For a camshaft that gets dry is not good.

The motor way there is so smooth unlike Los Angeles, CA motor way/highway filled with potholes, sofas and other debris.

I like the look of the avantguarde,looks sleek elegant,but i do not like the chrome around the windows.
You can order the "Night Package" and that will turn all chrome accents into black ones.
This car is quite desirable. I'm not too fond of the capacitive buttons and climate controls in the touchscreen. Also the trunk is too small as with most plugin hybrids. But other that that this car makes a lot of sense. It looks really good especially in this color and that EV range is fantastic. I could do almost all driving expect vacation trips on pure electric.
For me I could charge up over the weekend, drive to work, recharge for free, and drive home with enough range to get me back to the office the next day. Driving to work for the price of one recharge.

Yes and No. there will be a mix-coupe and convertible between C and E
Amazing EV range, more than I need (not counting the rare out of town trips). I could actually use a cheaper variant with smaller battery and more cargo space.
in this case buy the older model but in estate version

I have an unusual question: I know they don't do comparison between latest BMW 5 series and the Mercedes C-class as they are not on the same class, but now in terms of interior quality, Head-Up display, seat comfort, iDrive 7 vs MBUX, technology how do they differentiate, which one is better, which one is more comfortable, which one has better interior? Which one has more beautiful head-up display? I would really appreciate the answers on this?

you got almost 97km but that is on a brand new car, wonder what it will be like after several cycles of charge and discharge, probably drop like a rock (re:iPhone after a year of use). Listening to the door close IMO it was not the most solid vault like sound, a great test of hose the door sounds is when the windows are rolled down, most cars sound awful especially frameless door

Great video, actually, I can't find the Thomas blue. Is it country specific ? In Belgium, I can only choose between Cavaniste (Darker one) or Spectra blue.

Wouldn’t it made more sense to put the climate control at the top as opposed to the bottom as they have it now. Just an opinion? Beautiful car. Can you get a diesel plug in hybrid to compare the economy of petrol vs diesel plug in hybrid..
Yeah somewhere accessible. Diesel phev will be same in electric consumption, just better in fuel economy
C220 d will probably remain the best option until they offer full ev like Tesla

Id rather get the bmw 330e touring, the interior is much better with real buttons etc
Technically a person could fast charge this car every 100km, say on a 300km drive and not use the petrol motor. In reality this would be interesting. But there would be other ways to use this car i suppose.
