Love your videos!! We need YOU to do a head-to-head comparison of the 3 series, c-class and a4.
I hope Mercedes replace the 1.5 engine 204hp in the C200 ASAP .. even before the facelift , the w206 gained more wight than w205 and that caused the acceleration numbers to be a shame compared with today standards…

You are 100% correct on the capacitive buttons Thomas, they are rubbish! The real reason why so manufacturers are using them is because it is cheaper than quality feeling buttons.
I agree. They look so cheap. Also those diplays look very cheap. Plasticky and large bezels.
You need to repeat this in every review, Thomas - seriously. These capacitive buttons are just simple crap. And all car makers are using them now... gnargh...!
@@2squared Totally agree. Evolution gave people several channels of perception. Auto makers limit the client experience, keeping aside kinestetics and tactile perception and oveloading the visual channel. Mazda seems to give the exclusive product )
I totally agree. Porsche is going this way as well. Shiny black that you can’t see in the sun. Rubbish.
"Hey Mercedes." "How can I help you?" "SAVE the BUTTONS!" I feel your pain, Thomas.
:>
Capacitive buttons suck...terrible use of the "novelty" aspect. Buttons were fine, don't reinvent things no-one asked for
Capacitive touch? So, they don't work while wearing gloves?
They're looking at ways to empty your pockets after you buy the product
Agreed. Even Audi has backtracked on all the touchscreen nonsense and put proper buttons in the E-Tron.
Hate anything capacitive, you're definitely on point there.
Capacitive buttons feel cheap. They never work as well as intended.
@@jandersen6802 have to use your elbow instead. 💪🏻
Capacitive is better than a touch screen, like in Teslas.
@@jandersen6802 You know what is and feels even cheaper?! A touch screen! Hello, Tesla. Be happy MB is still using buttons, even if they are capacitive.
@@million127 ddd&xdc&I I have "xxxxxx
Autogefühl videos always provide a lot of technical detail without being boring.
I definitely agree with Thomas regarding "real buttons". It nice to be able to adjust functions by feel so I don't have to take my eyes off the road..
Appreciated ✌️
Used to easily watch the near hour long videos. But I really do enjoy the new efficient format.
Capacitive buttons... 🤢
One combined multi-capacitive button... 🤮
looks like a stretched a class, boring
Haptic feedback would help with some sort of brail so u know where ur touching without looking at the wheel.
gloss black everywhere where you touch, capacity touch "buttons", stupid multi"buttons" on a steering wheel, no real HVAC... no! no! no!
thomas you are maybe the only one complaining about capacioty touch buttons as a car reviewer, and i thank you for that! what a stupid trend.
i absolutely agree on your thoughts about capacitive buttons!
They make no sense in this use case of a car.
I have a GLC as a hire car at the moment and it has just two capacitive buttons that you can swipe in any direction. They can be handy but they also mean you accidentally activate them whilst holding the wheel and invariably it skips your music track.
@@sbomorse you are confusing thumbpads for infotainment operation in a GLC for a capacity touch buttons...
@@sbomorse For clarification, the complaint is over those haptic keys, that are not true individual buttons, but a single plastic cover cut into fake buttons. Its not only annoying to use, but looks and feels cheap.
That one big button area with several capacitive buttons on it is ugly like hell! Most stupid "cost-cutting" idea ever.
I think some automotive CEOs might disagree with Thomas’s contention that cars shouldn’t be phones.
Specifically from purchase frequency perspective 😂
@@hexensage196 they mostly dream of Apple margins
@@karlieeuh i meant how often we're pushed to move to the next "better" model. Hopefully not the car's case. Yet.
Hated it on Teslas and hate it on the new Mercs - remove that giant screen / tablet from the middle of the car. Make physical buttons great again!
I hate to say this, but sadly MB has gone way out of the line (and out of the present times) when it comes to pushing interior tech and such. It's just crazy, and many if us simply reject that kind of pushy approach.......
Forget it! It’s a great approach for the 4/5 lease people or fleet cars!
You get the tech and can show it to your mates, and then drop it in 4 years….
I hate it
yeah, I find it disgusting. Artifical leather, piano black, digital gauges, no physical buttons, I really hate this kind of design ideas on newer cars.
They should put capacitive controls on Hamilton’s F1 car steering wheel and see what the feedback is from him…
LMAO this quote should make into a car review
Appears that the cost cutting side of things is really important to Mercedes Benz.
Comparing to previous models, this one feels very "plastic". Those seat & air-conditioning buttons, general ergonomics seem really bad. 😔
Obviously you haven’t experienced the horrible, creaky gloss plastic dash of the W205.
@@wasdwasdwwasd Agreed, I believe w204 would be the last generation that wasn't built around the 'cost-cutting design language'.
I'm not sure if I entirely agree with the cost cutting. You'd never see stuff like 4 zone climate control on previous C-Classes.
Cost cutting has been happening with the Germans for quite some time, except for BMW
@@Channel_Tube I had a W204. Cost cutting was apparent there as well. Mine had 28,000kms on and was so full of creaks and rattles. A lot more plastic was used when compared to the facelifted W203. My dad has a facelift W203 C220 cdi 2005 model. With 310,000 kms it has no rattles and feels way more solid than any C Class that came after it.
I like this guy's honesty that Mercedes is making things unnecessarily complicated with all those screens and capacitive buttons.
I own a w205 and not buying this car because of the capacitive buttons. I went for BMW g22 which felt more like a real car despite it is now almost 2 years old design.
Miss the good old cars, not these ‘engined playstations’
2 year old design its nothing man. Just enjoy it.
@@MrPink- thank you 😊
car companies should agree to stop using fake exhausts, fake vents, capacitive buttons.
Thomas is such a gentleman. He always matches his clothes to the car he's reviewing! :)
Yes, sometimes I wondered if it was coincidence, but it happens too often for it to be by chance! Surprised he didn’t have a blue pocket square or socks to match the blue cars!
Car infortainment System have different system requirements ie dealing with heat and vibrations etc. sometimes bezels aren’t a bad thing.
What color is this? Very beautiful n calm
can't see my 77 year old mother in law trading her current C class for this. Those haptic buttons are horrid. Will wait fo mid model reverse back to real switches.
Definitely with you, Thomas, on capacitive buttons. Watching the video, I can clearly see how it distracts your eyes from the road. Not good. I like the voice control in my BMW. It (mostly!) works well and stops you fishing around in the menus. If they can improve voice commands further that would be a big help. We need good journalists, like you, telling manufacturers the importance of simplicity and safety and hopefully they’ll change future models.
Ciao Thomas, I collected last week my new GLB200d with "full spec" especially for the MBUX system . Normally (before Corona) i used to drive 40/45.000 km a year especially on highway, this year of course things are different . But it's one week now that i drive the car, and I tend to use (to my daughter big amusement) the "hey mercedes" system . Such as "hey mercedes it's too hot" and it lowers temperature one degree , "hey mercedes drive me to...." and it works, the gps is set correctly to that address . Even when i had fisical buttons in previous cars, anyhow you (at least for me) still look at your hands when you touch or move the button (of course not for door mirrors but for example AC system or GPS etc) . One good thing on the GLB is that you still have the touchpad to operate the MBUX and I use that also a lot, I have not seen the touchpad on this C class and I have to admit that would be a "minus" if it was not there, plus, very important there is a "fisical button" for the radio volume (i use that a lot) and for the AC fan speed . But as you mentioned you buy a mercedes most of the times for the way it rides , i came back to Benz after two BMW and a Toyota and it really feels like being "back home" .
12:20 ayy, thomas is a fan of dash berlin too, great taste man, not even surprised, trance is exactly the type of music i would imagine him enjoying at moderate volume while driving carefully on german autobahns obeying every rule
Love the fake exhausts and air intakes. They ooze quality and social status.
Hhahahahahahaha
Really dont get this trend. They look ridiculous and every manufacturer seems to have the same idea apart from some exceptions - 3 series as the best / closest example.
Kapp
I'm missing the conclusion section at the end of each review. They give a good summary of the cars you drive and make a good closure for the review. Somehow the current reviews seem to stop a bit abruptly. Otherwise wonderful job! :)
The best reviews out there currently. Thomas, excellent job with helpful observations. Just bought an E cabriolet- it’s a beautiful car to drive first and foremost. Keep up the good work.
thanks Richard and beautiful choice!
BMW have kept most of their capacitive buttons, so much easier especially when driving 👍
No Thomas, you are NOT complaining too much about bloody capacitive buttons.🤬😡🤬👎
As ever, really appreciate the honesty in your reviews.👍
"Where is the automotive heading with this touch controls". I love it when you say it. So true. This touch sensitive controls is a real letdown.
Loved Your insightfulness, Thomas! Which other car-reviewer would notice the inclination of the screen, getting too hot to operate when under direct sunshine. My only advice would be- please integrate textual notifications in the video with a summary of the most important points (price, engine, consumption, acceleration, warranty). Keep up the fantastic work! 👏👏👏😁
Totally agree that some controls need to be kept on physical dials/switches in order to allow the driver to maintain concentration on driving. This mania for putting everything on screens and touch buttons is dangerous.
Yes they are dangerous but so are push buttons like first who gets into the car and drive off and then play with the buttons? If your doing that then boy you should not have a car now if your going to drive you get on and set everything Bluetooth volume and everything not on the road they have button on the wheel which is safe and good now if it was no buttons there that would be different and dangerous. you just want something to complain
A very fair review of the new C class and I agree 100% on the excessive driver input required to navigate basic operations. The new 3 series has taken the right approach: give the driver the option to use either traditional knobs/buttons or the screens to access the basic and most used functions. The current B9 generation for Audi’s A4 has the same approach as BMW but I fear that the next generation of the A4 will replicate the all screen approach as the A6 or A8. On another note, Mercedes spends lot of money on focus groups to gauge the receptiveness of their target demographics on screens replacing knob/buttons. Perhaps the majority of potential mercedes buyers want the all screens approach?
way to go
May be Mercedes interior design team are consulting the young upwardly mobile who want their car interiors to look like their mobile phones.
Absolutely agree.
I like the choice in my 3 series. 90% while driving, I use the iDrive knob. It is the easiest to operate ans doesnt cost me much concentration. In addition, the shortcut buttons around the knob are really good, blindly switching from map to carplay, to the home screen and so on.
If youre on a standstill or a passenger you can still use touch easily.
Plus: less cleaning!
its funny because mercedes is switching to this tablet capacity touch button interior exactly from the same approach as you are describing... they have it still in a a-b-glb class... thumb pads on a steering wheel, touch screens, voice, and that swiping pad in the middle of central console.
such a massive improvement over the current one
also while i definitely don't prefer capacitive buttons over traditional ones, i don't find them too difficult to use.
That center screen has massive bezels, looks like the first iPad form 2010. It's 2021!
I really like your style of reviewing. You have such a good personality and a good sense of humor (
Autogefühl Police).
Keep up the good work with such amazing reviews. And yes capacitive touch buttons are so counterintuitive.
I’ve had virtually no issues with my W205, it’s been a pleasure to own. I’m now debating on this new one or a 3-series
Dude , you are awesome. Nice review
I wish they kept the option for the classic grill style
Great review and I like how what Thomas is wearing matches the paint. I miss "full screen, full HD and full length - let's go!"
I can't wait for you to review the new C63 hybrid when it comes out. Love your channel!
Great review again Thomas! My favourite channel for my lunch break :) I completely agree with your comments on ''feeling home' and 'simplicity'. I have both new B-class and X2 and i feel way better when i drive the BMW, it is definitely a much better car and not being a ''smart phone''. I hate to push a lot of buttons before lunching the car (e.g. de-activating irritating lane assist). However i also recognize the B-class as a much practical and near-luxury level interim quailty. Also my wife doesn't like to use B class because of all those fancy but distracting stuff.
It's illegal to use a phone, tablet etc in the UK when driving. I assume many other countries will be the same. This center console is just a tablet and I noted when Thomas was driving he was glancing downwards a lot. (I like the way BMW's have their screen on the dash). This combined with capacitive buttons is very poor design. I have trouble with fine motor control. This is not disabled friendly. Disappointed as I like the car otherwise and was thinking of getting one, currently have an E-class. Great video as always Thomas.
Totally agree with the “tech overload” over complication comment, I bought a new C class Coupe with all the bells and whistles and 4 years down the road I am still unearthing capabilities which I never knew I had or needed. Whilst some of the tech is great, next time it will be the basic package for me! Great review as always!
Thomas: Keep conveying to the auto manufacturers that more complicated technology is not better. Simplify the controls and interfaces please!
Great job!! This is easily the most superior detailed review of the new C-Class that I've seen.
All the others have been fanboy reviews. I'm only finally seeing the cons of this car in this video. Overall great redesign, but some things I don't think I could live with. I'll wait for the refreshes from customer complaints.
welcome !!
I love your reviews. Interesting and informative at the same time.
👌👌 please share :)
I enjoyed watching the Video 😊. My favourite Is the Estate
capacative buttons = HORROR. They want you to fiddle with it so you crash your car. As long as they hold on to these buttons, I’ll hold on to my present car with REAL buttons. if they don’t wanna change, I will take the bus. No cheap plastic car for me, thank you very much. Mercedes looks nice from far, but far from nice these days… Uh
Great review. Your presentations are excellent and honest. We'll done. Real and professional. Thank you.
Welcome 🙏
Well, that BMW M3 front end doesn't look so bad anymore...
Great review as always T. Keep calling the Autogefuhl exhaust police!
Great video!
Interesting material choice on the middle console in both cars.
Does this also have the NFC in the middle for phone pairing like the previous ones?
Also I played with a configurator, and in my country if you want any extra not in a standard model, you have to get the bigger middle screen unfortunately.
Thomas, thank you for your honest reviews! Yes, I agree with you that physical buttons are better than software buttons. I received my 2021 E350 this summer and it is a tech overload to drive sometimes. The 2021 E350 has a few real physical buttons,, so that is good.. I appreciate the safety tech, but there is a steep learning curve (for me at least).... I am still trying to learn all of the feature and how to use them safely while driving. Adjusting settings with physical buttons are best in some areas.
I love the materials Mercedes uses but I feel the C class has too much going on for its own good. Not as clean as I would like. Great video as usual.
Lower parts in interior are from hard plastics, never seen in C-class before.
Looks really great but the V8 will be missed. Interior is like a mini S class very nice 👍
18:43 - We do not have air suspension anymore, but the adaptive suspension [...] really combines comfort and sportiness very well".
Meanwhile camera shakes like crazy.
This C CLASS looks “worried” compared to the “cheerful” looking older versions.
They took the depressed look of their A-class, and smacked it onto their C-class. BMW is doing weird things with their grills, and Audi's design also seems lacking lately. Did the Germans lose their touch?
@@Jeroenneman No way. Audi is improving. They're nailing it lately
@@Jeroenneman German car designs have never really been great. it’s just more obvious now, as other manufactures are stepping it up.
Love this review! Please keep it up!
In the USA we would rather stab ourselves in the eye before buying a station wagon / estate :) But I guess I can see the charm due to its practicality. The sedan looks superb in my opinion.
I see more lambos than e class wagons or any wagon 😭
In the US all they want is more SUV's. I have the C wagon in Canada and it gives you all the benefits of the GLC but with better handling, gas mileage, quickness, more fun to drive and doesn't look like everyone else. The only thing I don't have is the added road clearance, but unless you are going off road or on un-plowed roads right after a snow storm you really don't need it. The most off road that 99.9% of SUV drive on is gravel driveways or a rural gravel road. Not sure why the hate-on for wagons because SUV are really the family car for the past 20years. Wagons are enjoyed by people that are into sports or have dogs. In F1 the medical car duties are shared with the C63 wagon and the Aston Martin SUV, the MB looks way cooler.
Totally agree on those capacitive buttons, they're just rubbish. Real and separate buttons are the king, especially for a luxury brand like mercedes.
Really Love your Reviews! Great content on youtube
Thanks please recommend 😄
Informative review Thomas - top notch!
Does the air-conditioning/climate controls touch sensitive areas allow for multi-touch input?
If not, then the driver and front-seated passenger would have to take turns when adjusting their preferred climate setting…
love Thomas,s driving lounge
Your videos are really excellent, the best
Great Review as always.
Having taken on extra work during the pandemic I’ve been driving 2 generations of Mercedes Sprinter commercial Vehicles.
The newer generation steering wheel and the blue menu screens looked amazing, but The capacitive buttons on the newer generation I found quite frustrating and certainly preferred the click and usability on the previous generation.
I really do like the new C class. A shame no coupe in the W206 and I look forward to seeing what Mercedes produce in its place.
I agree the best version is the RWD C300. A nicely balanced comfortable luxury car.
Thomas, that center screen looks ridiculously oversized so the smaller one with physical climate knobs seems the right choice. Good review again as always 👍🏴
Great rant Thomas re buttons and infotainment! Having to change temperature and other settings that need to be changed whilst driving should be easy, otherwise accidents will increase. Well said.
I absolutely agree with you, Thomas! the capacity buttons nowadays was so backwards!
The estate / touring looks great 👌👏
I am agree with you about buttons. The capacitive buttons that I like are the buttons of Audi on screen with aptic response. It is really well done, seems physical buttons.
Hallo Thomas, super Review.
Kannst du mir sagen welche Schuhe du dort trägst.
Vielen Dank
Always great rewiews Thomas, great job. I agree 100% about the fake exhausts and the buttons in the stearing wheel, i want them be real. Bye from italy.
Mercedes is going backwards in quality of the interior. The worse part is they trying to make us think those negativ points are Highlights
That's marketing for ya. But Jedi mind tricks aren't what they used to be.
Haven't tried capacitive buttons on cars yet, but I trust your judgment! I think non tech-savvy people might really hate them, while others may just find them "meh".
Awesome work
Which one is the correct Thomas Blue, between Spectral Blu and Misano Blue?
The estate version looks awesome. We will never see it here in the USA. Bring it here in Thomas Blue!
Will it have massage seats? (not seat kinetics)
Capacitive buttons feels cheap en every car. Its a Bad trend of the industrie.
7:50 I have that kind of one-button multi-button for the radio and voice command controls in my Fiesta mk7. After 4 years from factory new, pressing them just does a random action instead of what you wanted to do. Gotta get them fixed next time I'm at the dealership :D
I'm a big mercedes fan but making the lineup look the same is something I can't stand by. The lack of distinction is really bothering me, inside and out
Yup. I won't be selling my W222 anytime soon for this new crap. The only new feature I like is the rear wheel steering.
Agree with your opinion regarding capacitive buttons, I wish any changes made will be done to make things better and improve the user experience. not just change for the sake of change sake or to be different.
Were the "decorative" tail pipe apparatus removed, and actual exhaust pipes pointed "south", would there be a greater risk of CO2 poisoning when the vehicle is standing? Wondering. I wonder about the electromagnetic, H2O, and mechanical dynamics / rationales for decoupling a fixed terminus from the muffler end. I tend to question questions.
Can you fit a road bike in the trunk with seat reclined on the sedan ?
Man that whistle is your trademark.. lol
Avantgarde exterior every time! How nice it is to see a Mercedes that isn't suffering from depression.
That Spectral Blue looks really nice and along with white seats is great, and i think the rear of the estate looks fine - a pity you didn't test-drive that and also measure the width of the load space as that can be more important than the length.
And just, no, with the fully capacitive controls, i agree with you - buttons much more user friendly!
Sir, I would like to know your camera type and setting (if you could tell any) DANKE!
this is good review ^^
thanks, feel free to recommend =)
Capacitive buttons are rubbish and even dangerous if you lose concentration and crash.
Drove it, really nice driving qualities, base models doesn’t have enough power. Engine seems very much tuned to the automatic, so forget the pedal shifters. The screens are fast and bright, the buttons I don’t mind at all. Usable pretty quickly without looking, like the sliding feature for the volume especially. Interior is very beautiful and clean, materials excellent, a very nice place to be, with a crisp and quick but not hectic feeling autogefühl.
Thanks for the feedback!
Best reviewer around.
Thanks my friend!
Hey Thomas,
You say that it´s not easy to operate the capacitive buttons due to the distraction.
I think after 1 month of driving you will be totaly fine with this kind of control. You just need to give it a chance.
Why you didn´t try the Distronic Plus with Steering Assistant?
The driving is much more comfortable.
The front looks like Ford Focus. I still love my W204 C-Class
After watching this i am still happy with my w205 with the specs 😅😅😅
You are right, capacitive buttons are hard to use while driving. Especially if you are not used with the car, like rental cars...so difficult.
I love all the new technology the more the better makes it futuristic
good review 👍
No extending leg bolsters on the front seats now either. I’ll miss that. Looking forward to trying one but slightly unsure if I will like it.
it has a extending leg bolsters, it folds up from under the seat. ive tested it and i think its better then the older model where all kind of stuff could fall inside and you must clean it every month
I think you are right about the buttons
Hey Thomas, I was just wondering about the fuel consumption of this model and which would be your preferred choice for a daily drive -C300 or C300e?
The phev is usually bought when you get lower taxes in your country
@@autogefuehl Putting aside the taxes and such benefits. As a car, how is C300 or C300e? On paper you get more power on C300e, less fuel cost etc. But as a distinguished reviewer, where would you put your money at?
