The other day I hooked up to a massive tire. After an hour of a drag pulling, rod bending battle I finally got it to shore, and right as I reached for the net it broke my rod, reel, and popped my line. Then I slipped and fell in the river. A cop came and gave me a $100 ticket for swimming in front of a NO SWIMMING sign.
we have speckled trout and redfish in the states. I personally use way less drag for top water so the fish can run with the lure vs the excitement of trying to set the hook. Its increased hook up 10 fold. Allows for the nerves to be delayed as the fish takes the lure 😅😊
hey cavy personally i love these type of videos and think you should definitely continue these as its a good break from all the GT and psycho island fishing and there super chill and feel a little more personal which as a viewer i think is great! also love your video titled "I Drove 2000 Miles to Fishing Paradise" as its similar, driving and showing spots and exploring! tight lines cavy! would also love to see more creek and estuary fishing!!!!
The setting, overcast weather in varirous areas, dangers, sharks in fresh water, various types of fish, big ones too, made a creepy and awesome video brah!
If you want more hookups with topwater keep your rod tip high and when the fish strikes drop your rod tip to give the fish slack so it can take off and eat the lure or turn with it and count to 2 and then swing into it. Keep up the great vids🤘🏼
Awesome episode! I’d love to see a series of Cavy fishing urban/rural canals and streams. Incredible seeing the Bull shark in that rocky freshwater stream, not to mention the sneaky crocs! One of my favorite videos yet!
One of my favorite vids of yours, just very interesting part of the world, and to think little water holes like that holding so many awsome fish, very cool fishing.
Thanks for the adventure Cavy! It's nice to be able to see through your eyes places that I could never get to expirience. Take care, stay safe and blessings to you Brother!!!❤😊
Dude this is such a good video! I really loved this type of exploring video, especially in fresh water. The bull shark that far up was insane, especially up waterfalls and small rapids! Tight lines.
Cheers dude! Yeah bit different from the saltwater vids for sure! Was a bit of a blast from the past with the creek, just without the crocs, shark and barra! But back in home land we have similar creeks, just mostly bass and sometimes tarpon and jacks!
Glad you enjoyed it, i understand about the relatable content, not everyone can get GT's from the rocks on crazy islands haha. Def also enjoyed this one myself as you can see in the vid haha.
those bara top water smash near the lily pad was sick to watch. very cool to see this style of fishing. really awesome. i'm surprised that they didn't get hooked most of the time. that tarpon was a cool bonus catch. amazing to see that small bullshark in freshwater. it may not have been a topwater bara but it was great see you finally land the golden bara.
Those topwater strikes is what got me hooked to go back the next day even though there was croc(s) waiting for me lol. Like you said was stoked to get one landed in the end even though wasn't top water! It fought so well too, was super shocked, probably really healthy ones in this creek, lots of bait and bull sharks they have to contend with! Yew!
Another great vid from Cavy, aka "Bill Dance from Down-Undah!" I know how special it is to hits those spots when casting. It's clear you're at the top of your game rn. Love seeing those precise casts! I would've left the lip on and twitched the lure from left to right on top.
I wouldn't said unlucky cav, just need more preparation😆. I lost my plier and now i tie them with rubber snap carabiner, bring alot lure into my tackle boxes many from size big into micro to handle miss bite. Fresh water game is fun and tricky. Realy pumps you up 😊😊😊

Bloody lucky.... after living in Arnhem land and seeing what crocs are capable I had anxiety on a number of occasions watching you here.. Great fishing spot and vid but stay safe mate.

I definitely wouldn't mind seeing more content like this from you! Ledges and unhabited islands with GT in all it's glory, but this was also really fun ❤
I'm here Cavy. I will write more after I watch. That spot didn't look stupid. That first spot looked like fishing in the swamps of Louisiana, US. Those gloves look nice. Sharks, crocodiles and ants, something is going to eat you. haha I like the different fishing spots you went to. Thanks for bringing me with you.
@@CavyFishing I don't think you're the unluckiest fisherman. I think you're the greatest fisherman in the world. I watch all of your videos from beginning to end.
American fisherman here, never caught a bara before, but i have used treble hooks on our fish here, you do not need to set the hook really at all (unless baras have stone like mouths), just a fairly gentle yank to the side and the hooks do the work for you. Beside my 2cents, amazing video loved every minute, keep it goin Cavy!
Reminds me a lot of fishing in South Florida where I live. Canals and creeks with multiple species of fish including some non-native tropical species, stopping by the side of road, tossing top water lures then quickly changing to soft plastics, walking through the bushes and a bunch of crocodilians. But, our crocodilians are American Alligators who don't, as a rule attack humans, not like salties at all that seem to like Australian human flesh! Great video mate!
With top water lures you want either pause for a second before you set the hook or better lift up on the tip of the rod until you feel weight before you set the hook.
Hi Cavy a couple of suggestions 1) get some super sharp hooks such as Owner brand 2). Slow down your top water retrieve and let it sit. I have had big Barra take a lure floating motionless on the surface
Totally mind blowing! Sharks, deadly snakes, ferocious ants, and crocodiles that are expert stalkers! Here in the US we have it made. Even in the south eastern part of the country, compared to your crocs our alligators are rather placid. Stay healthy my friend. And, thanks for sharing! Yew!
I looked up the snake. I believe you were correct. It was a tree snake. Per Wikipedia "Sometimes when approached, the snake inflates its body and neck to make itself seem larger, a tactic sometimes used to scare predators."
I’ve never heard somebody refer to 20lb as ultra light as a bass and trout guy from California. I regularly use 4lb-6lb for my UL setups PERSPECTIVE IS CRAZY amazing video Cavy❗️❗️❗️
Hey cavy just a few tips for hook sets for barra, you don't need a big gt hook set just 1 goodstrik if you do to much strikes it will rip there lips like it happened previously, I catch many barra on top water and I just do a good hard strike then your on, also should loosen your drag a little bit more cause they like to hit and run so if it's to tight then it'll come strait out of there mouth, but don't do it to loose
I’ve had the same problem with top water spooks targeting striped bass here in the states. If they miss, I’ve had good success following up with a similar size and color weightless soft plastic and letting it sink down then continuing to work like it like a top water.
Great to see some fresh water fishing. Can't believe you went out on that tree that's crazy but then you show a shark in the river, man alive I love you videos
Being a fellow Aussie fisherman I don’t like to share my secrets however i hope that you continue doing well first bit of advice would be to swap out your travel hooks for single hooks you don’t get as many snags and the hook up right is a lot better
Love your positive attitude after missing the most fish I have seen on youtube. Nice Barramundi. And its not uncommon for Bull Sharks to spawn in Fresh water and travel miles down rivers.
yo cav, from one florida ledgelord to an aus brotherman you're a much better fisherman than I am but I have a solid tip/reminder. don't set your hook on a top, you have to let them eat or you'll pull the lure from their mouth too fast. it's the worste thing when you have the instinct to set the hook right away but keep working the lure until you feel the weight then set it deeper. always anticipating the next adventure bro
Nice video mate. Good change from the normal.. Enjoyed it a lot… More different styles like this would be great to watch.. I want to see you catch a massive Barra! 👍🏻
Yeah Cavy that was Amazing content ! Variety is the spice of life indeed ! that Sooty Grunter didnt look very big until you got him out , Holly molly he was big . I notice you finally got a Barra on a small lure ? Your fishing Brain is A1 and i pretty much prefer watching listening to your stuff over all the others . Yew !
as a veiwer from flordia i have been chasing tarpon since the new years, and i have had some crazy luck with weighted swimbaits, glad to see it works for you to!
That's my type of location! Amazing spots Cavy and you're nuts for standing on that log when it's croc infested 😂. Persistence pays off 👏 well done on the barra!
for shallow water with lots of obstacles its tough going. In normal conditions, your drag might be set a bit too high, the hooks might be getting in but they're ripping out. In that situation id use conventional extra heavy setup, then switch out the hooks to a slightly larger size and extra sharp needle point hooks. the "Triple Grip" style with canted in points tend to stay in better from my experience. Use straight 80lb braid, no leader.
I live in Louisiana and we have alligators here, but they don't bother us too much when we fish, and we have to be careful when bank fishing but nothing like those crocs you have there. Those boys are nasty and fearless and as you showed us, they will hunt you. Great video, see you on the next one.
epic video mate, really like the chill vibes in this one, definatelly want to see more of these. By th way you should get a nice baticasting setup to be more comfortable with this type of fishing. Cheers mate
When I saw the thumbnail, I said to myself, it's because of spiders, snakes or crocs. Worked with some Bunbury lads back in the '90s, and always had a great time fishing or diving. The Hash runs weren't too bad either. Great video mate, keep them coming.
You don’t need to break the bib off all you do is you let it hit the wall, float up twitch twitch let it float, back up, twitch, twitch let it float back up. It’s nearly the same as Topwater barramundi pretty simple creatures you could if it’s Louis just switch on the top of the service, they’ll eat it anyway it’s given to them
omg, Giant crocodiles- Australia sure does have it's fair share of major bodily injury risk for outdoor bush recreation. Snakes, *spiders*, and big ole man eating lizards lurking often invisibly too close for comfort! Fun video, man. A total riot. Sohhhmuch FUN!
Hello Cavybara (great name), new fresh water adventure, pay atention to crocs.I see all your gt s videos. Greatings from Azores islands,Portugal Europe.
Hi bro I’m from Ireland too. But I live in the south of France… terrible shore fishing. I have to get my kicks watching Cavy. Hope he stays safe and unscathed. He has to have the best content ! Fish on bro
Don't know if you'll see this, but try upping the size of your hooks a tad can help with hookups, but it will change the action of the lure some. Or use a slightly smaller top water lure, consider the size and buoyancy of a large top water it makes it a bit harder for the barramundi to eat it. They are a very similar fish to large snook here in florida in the states where i live and they use suction to inhale their food then snap shut. id love to go over there and fish for barra!!! I love catching monster snook here, not sure how big barra get, but the largest snook I've caught was 51", that's a very large snook and aren't caught that size often at all. Did get a nice pic with it.
50 years ago - my Grandad taught me to wait till the rings got gone after a top water cast to start working it. Also - wait to feel the weight of the fish before striking - if u can.
ive never seen you done it but if you get stuck and pull hard and then release the line fast it can get unstuck. it will launch it backwards and release. I do it all the time.
How far upriver from the salt were you? I suppose that during heavy rains, bulls sharks can go up shallow stretches that you would think they couldn't. In bigger rivers, they've been recorded hundreds of miles inland.
Not sure what hooks you're using but I know a lot of people say if you're fishing barra top water use BKK Viper hooks because they have a needle point for a better hook set and hook up rate especially with fish with tougher mouths to penetrate. Awesome stuff Cavy.
Yeah i think mostly just a bit unlucky here! But for sure can try messing around with hook, these ones seem to do well on the GT in salt, but yeah was pretty epic topwater hits none the less! I guess the soft plastics with the big single seemed to get the job done in the end, but yeah wanted the topwater! Next time eh!
The trekking pays off! Nice job Mr Cavy. 👏🏼👏🏼 I’d highly recommend some venom gaiters for those missions bro. You get whacked by a snake out in that country you are pretty much cactus bro!
Love your videos I must get up to the top end Two things to contribute 1/ FG works fine as long as the diameters are different so if you’ve only got 20 pounds then the braid wants to be a bit thinner I probably wouldn’t tie FG if I was using a 20 pound lead unless I could maybe go for a 15 pound super thin braid probably premium braid 2/ When line diameters are very similar, please try the carrot knot I use that for tying 4 lb. Braid onto a 4 pound lead.
On the way to my camp, there’s places that you can walk through the water and keep the barra of the road When you drive the car through you trying to scare the fish off instead of running them over Coburg Peninsula
Keep up the great content Cavy I’ve been watching for years my boy yeew

That was epic! Great fishing spot🎣✌️
My favorite video yet. Nicely done
I absolutely love watchin your videos. Here in the midst of a rain drenched Irish winter you bring some sunlight. Thanks for sharing ..
Hi bro I’m from Ireland too. But I live in the south of France… terrible shore fishing.
I have to get my kicks watching Cavy.
Hope he stays safe and unscathed.
He has to have the best content ! Fish on bro
Ledge Master! Thanks for the sick video man!
Thanks bro! Happy you enjoy it
Very cool video! That shark is gnarly in that creek/river system.
💯
ive never seen you done it but if you get stuck and pull hard and then release the line fast it can get unstuck. it will launch it backwards and release.
Great content mate, had me on the edge, waiting for a barra.
The trekking pays off! Nice job Mr Cavy. 👏🏼👏🏼
I’d highly recommend some venom gaiters for those missions bro. You get whacked by a snake out in that country you are pretty much cactus bro!
What an epic day of fishing bro.🎣
from croc to shark.🤯
Love your videos I must get up to the top end
Two things to contribute
1/ FG works fine as long as the diameters are different so if you’ve only got 20 pounds then the braid wants to be a bit thinner
I probably wouldn’t tie FG if I was using a 20 pound lead unless I could maybe go for a 15 pound super thin braid probably premium braid
2/
When line diameters are very similar, please try the carrot knot I use that for tying 4 lb. Braid onto a 4 pound lead.
On the way to my camp, there’s places that you can walk through the water and keep the barra of the road When you drive the car through you trying to scare the fish off instead of running them over Coburg Peninsula
Nice work bro! Glad you got a Barra in the end.
Cheers dude! Hope ya good yewww
Ahh my favourite channel on rainy nights
Keep it coming with the inland fishing vids!! Awesome new spots! Watch for the crocs tho bruh!!
One of the best sessions I seen do more creek fishing....awesome cavy. Keep it up my man
