    I actually interpreted the reason Ellie ended up letting Abby go differently from you. At the very end, we get to see Ellie's last conversation with Joel. It ends with her saying "I don't think I can ever forgive you for that. But I would like to try". Her hate towards Abby throughout the game is not just because she killed Joel. It's because Ellie is now haunted by the fact she never got the chance to forgive him and let him know that. She wanted to try but Abby took that from here. So what Ellie does? She goes on a rampage, killing everybody who stands in her way. She does horrible things and she hates herself for it. She is losing herself piece by piece but she keeps going because she remembers how Joel died. that's the only thing she thinks of throughout the game. At the very end, when she is drowning Abby, she remembers *THAT* conversation with Joel. She realizes that all she did after Joel died was exactly what Joel did for her. She understands him and why he did what he did and she realizes that she isn't different from him. So at that point, even if Joel died, she forgave him. With that forgiveness came her ability for mercy and she lets Abby go. She realized that she didn't have peace because she didn't get the chance to forgive Joel and not because Joel died. So with that, she goes back home, plays the guitar one last time, and lets Joel go.

    You either love the game with all your heart like some of us or hate it with all your soul. It's impossible to be critical because the only thing that the story focuses on is feelings. Nothing is objectively right or wrong in this adventure. It is physically impossible to talk about it without being biased. THIS is why the game is a masterpiece to me. It causes so much discussion, debate and disagreements because of the balls it had.

      I didn't do that and i didn't enjoy it. heck i didnt even see the leaks for one reason alone i had waited 7 years for a sequel and i wasn't gonna let some leaks spoil that.
      You saying that there are more haters who just hate it simply just to hate it, than there are more people like me who genuinely didnt enjoy it is just absurd. you don't know that. but to make you sleep better at night that's what you tell yourself.
      And the fact you're ok with the DMCA Abuse tells me your a kid, because its not illegal to talk about a game online that hasn't come out, but its illegal to abuse the DMCA system. so you justifying that is very disgusting.
      You saying "Abuse DCMA? How about abuse of Metacritic, Twitter, Memes, videos, comments & the general " what earth do you live on? you're allowed to do that, youre trying to justify one with the other when simply there are no connection between them whatsoever,
      It's not illegal to leave a bad review, or make a meme or talk about leaks online, so maybe stop trying to justify the dmca abuse with this, it's a really bad example.
      But what annoys me the most is you're basically doing the same as neil druckmann, shutting down valid criticism, with political bias, to you it simply can't be that someone genuinely didn't like it, it has to be deeper than that it must be haters who thrive to hate, and loves cancel culture and have an extreme bias, so yes i can say you have bad taste when you can say that people who didn't enjoy it are just saying it to be a hater :).

      That's because most people don't look at this game from the characters eyes. They look at it from THEIR perspective, which is a person sitting down in their home, playing a video game. Which is why most people wanted Ellie to kill Abby. They didn't, and probably don't, really care about the effect such a thing would have on Ellie, they only care that they, the character player, would get to see a person they don't like suffer. It's that kind of close mindedness and entitlement that leads me to believe that Joel and Ellie's "fans" don't really care about the characters as much as they say they do. I didn't care for Joel or Ellie, but I knew the mental consequences of her decisions and I didn't want her to keep spiraling down this path; all it ends up with is Ellie staring down the barrel of her own gun. I imagine Joel would not have wanted his little girl to go on such a reckless path of vengeance either, certainly not on his behalf; he knew what kind of man he was and he knew where that path lead. And I find it funny and sad that so many of the LoU "fan base" wanted Ellie to go through with this path and how little they truly empathized or sympathized with Ellie's condition.

      God, I see people constantly shitting on this game. Sometimes, I end up in a debate with someone about it. And this one time I was debating with someone and had found common ground, another fan of the game chipped in. But instead of adding onto the discussion, they insulted the other persons opinion, and said that they were basically sheep for “basing their opinion of off mainstream pizzagate UA-camrs.” and that their opinion “wasn’t theirs.” And now I understand why both sides discredit each other. Because the bad apples on each side makes each side think that the bad apples are the norm. This shit happens in politics too.

And when we disagreed, we were amicable and simply spoke with our wallets. We didn't make death threats, didn't shit on Capcom and we didn't piss all over each other, effectively fragmenting our own community. We gave each other respect. One of the biggest things this game did was show just how "nice" and "understanding"the LoU fan base is, especially towards the people who worked hard on the game. That was a great line but it was something I think it took Joel a long time to accept himself. When he lied to Ellie for two years he was trying to avoid paying the cost for his choice back at the hospital (losing Ellies love). I think Joels lies hurt Ellie as much as his actions at the hospital and poisoned all her happiest memories of their relationship. In their final conversation, Joel has a choice. To apologise to Ellie for what he did to try and win her back (which would be lying to her again) or accepting the cost and saying he would do it all again to save her even if it means losing his most precious thing (his relationship with her). I think it was him finally being honest that let her move on and attempt reconciliation even though she still disagreed with what he did. Remembering this conversation eased Ellies guilt over his death as it means Joel died knowing she still loved him.

    The feeling of just wanting Ellie to move on and go home was so strong at certain points like when she was torturing Nora, when Jessie went to go find Tommy and *ESPECIALLY* after Abby let her go. I was saying to myself, “this is it,” and instead Ellie left everything behind to go after Abby who could’ve killed her before. And now she’s doing alone??
    It was crazy to see that she was just as devoted to revenge as Abby was at the beginning, and Abby was just as tired of it as Joel seemed to be. But like Joel, Abby was at the mercy of those she had wronged. The parallels between Abby and Joel were done really well, with her having a personal redemption upon meeting a child that she actually could protect, like she promised she would her father...the same way Joel had his humanity restored when he fell in love with Ellie and promised he’d protect her like Sarah. And that ending fight was so hard to stomach, because I finally started caring about Abby (never more than Ellie or Dina though) and so to see her so close to death, fighting only to save Lev, you really get the feeling that she would go as far to save Lev as Joel went to save Ellie. The fact that Ellie never knew why Abby wanted to kill Joel really struck with me too. You see how much Joel’s act of selfish love hurt both of them, not just those in his way but innocent bystanders AND the person he convinced himself he did it for. I really can’t wait for a TLOU3 but I really hope it’s less polarizing, and does give in and finally show us a good, wholesome ending. This series deserves to be as loved by everyone else as I love it, and almost more than that I just need more of this universe.

      @@s_ade9969 I’m not confident at all. As much as I think this universe is one that should never die and the characters that remain (still think Jessie should’ve been one of them) deserve more story-I don’t think the reception of the last game was what they wanted. I think there’s a world where a Tlou 3 doesn’t happen because of how much criticism they had. I mean, building the first game from the ground up instead of giving us DLC isn’t a great sign. Idk what it’ll be about though because you have two characters who both are at interesting parts in their story, but it would be a difficult sell for them to get together. Lie it’s one thing for Ellie and Abby ti forgive each other but it’s another fr them to become friends. So I think you stick with Ellie who’s an icon by this point, and the story’s really about forgiving yourself and moving past trauma. In the first game, Ellie is waiting to die at the end of all of it. She didn’t want to survive the surgery, and was sort of hoping she wouldn’t. In the second game Ellie does forgive Joel, and even Abby but when she looks back there’s one hell of a trail of blood. She lost Dina (for the moment, she’ll be back I hope) Jessie died, Tommy lost an eye and his peace-a lot of shit happened to people around her and there’s still Tess Sam Henry and Riley from the first game. I think at this point the survivors guilt she was feeling has to be at its breaking point. So I think she’ll set out to right her wrongs, first with Dina and then with Tommy, and eventually with another shot at the cure where she’ll by the end of the game realize that saving the world isn’t her burden to carry. That the only people she owes her life to are the people that love her, and the best way to honor them isn’t by sacrifice but by living life fully. Idk, something like that. Whatever it’s about I want more of it.

      @@stanleylee3329 I'm about 90% sure that they will make Part 3, but ultimately, I think it's entirely in Neil Druckmann's hands. *After all, he is responsible for the creation of games that have sold over 65 million units (and that number is likely to rise sharply as it took ~5 years for **_The Last of Us_** to sell 10 million units, while the sequel took just 2 years to reach the same milestone), and which have collectively made Sony and Naughty Dog BILLIONS (I mean, **_Uncharted 4_** alone had a profit of over $1 billion USD).* And that's not even counting the other, extremely-profitable intellectual property associated with these games (including a moderately-successful feature film, and one of the best television shows EVER CREATED).
      Given all of this success, I'm confident that Sony has learned to trust his instincts. Remember, he pitched them a game in which the player:
      1) Watches Abby, (who was a new, unfamiliar character) brutally kill Joel Miller, arguably the most beloved video game character of the 21st century with a golf club to the skull;
      2) Controls Ellie, another extremely popular character as she becomes an equally-vile monster while seeking revenge for this heinous act;
      3) Becomes Abby (a hated character at this point), and plays her redemption arc for almost half of the game;
      4) Has to fight as Abby (who we still hate, to varying degrees) against Ellie (who we still love), and nearly beat her to death;
      5) Has to fight as Ellie against Abby, and nearly beat HER to death before letting her live, and ultimately NOT avenging Joel's murder.
      The only way that this story could be more INSANELY RISKY is if you were forced to beat Joel to death with the golf club yourself while playing Abby (can you imagine?). But Sony essentially said "yes, we want this game, here have $100 million, let us know if you need more." Therefore, I have to conclude that if Druckmann can write a story that he believes in, something that is beautiful and compelling, and which brings this franchise to a truly epic conclusion...the game *will get made.*

    I’m glad that they didn’t end it with Ellie and Dina on the farm. Because even though it was happier, it wouldn’t have been consistent with the character Ellie and her ark. Because Abby got her redemption and came full circle from revenge to forgiveness, Ellie didn’t have that yet. This game is consistent. Last of us isn’t about happiness, but hate it or love it, can’t deny it’s consistency. That’s important. The story has integrity, rather you like it or not. Liking it or not doesn’t matter. What matters is it’s story. Story comes first with its respected characters. Audience comes second. In the words of Hideo Kojima, “betray your audience.” Never pander to the audience to seek their gratification and satisfaction. Let your work speak for itself, not the audience.

      There were two bits of the story that still needed told at the farm. 1) Ellies fight with Joel at the dance (which shows she is driven by guilt thinking those were her last words to Joel) and 2) Their actual final conversation (letting her remember that by wanting to try a forgive him, she had shown him she still loved him and he died knowing she still loved him). I think guilt drives her to leave the farm and remembering the last conversation lets her spare Abby and in a way, Joel saves her one last time as I believe killing Abby would have destroyed her.

    I really sympathized with Abby in this game. When I was young at 11 years old the police showed up at my doorstep reporting that my father had been killed in a mugging. My mother fell into a deep depression and stopped really caring for me. The guy who did it got a few years for some stupid fucked up reason. I spent 15 years full of hatred fantasizing everyday what I wanted to do to this guy. I was obsessed with the thought of it and couldn’t get it out of my mind. My hatred for this killer consumed me. After my mom died from cancer, I had nothing else to lose. Eventually I found out where this person lived so I put a camera outside their house for a week. By this point they had a family I noticed but I didn’t care, I had dedicated far too much of my life in the pursuit of revenge to turn back at that point. I was too obsessed with revenge. Once I found out his schedule, I waited for him to pull out his car out from the driveway. Then I walked up to the car, knocked on the window, and unloaded the entire thing into his chest with a suppressed pistol (I’ll leave out the incriminating details for obvious reasons). There were no witnesses and I was long gone before anyone even noticed. I made sure there were no cameras or anything and shaved out the barrel of the gun so there would be no way to tell what gun was used. By this point I was so far removed from this guy’s life that I wasn’t even a suspect. I moved countries shortly after just to be safe. I was planning on moving anyways. I felt relieved after but also just empty. Now I can move on with my life though.

    The one thing I think people don’t realize, and could’ve been conveyed better, is one of the big underlying reason for Ellie not killing Abby-the way it happened. Now, Ellie had killed a lot of people in a variety of brutal ways, But there was something different about the way she was going to kill Abby. If you played the first game you’ll remember the first time Ellie ever took life was when Joel was dying in the hotel. Up to this point Joel never trusted her, especially with a gun. Yet when he is being drowned in the hotel she shoots the man that was going to kill him. It’s the first time she’s ever taken a life, and it’s also the first time they actually develop the relationship that they cherished the most in their lives. And so when Ellie is drowning Abby, I think she realizes that Abby is the Joel to someone else. And she forgives Abby because she finally forgives Joel.

    I really love this game, Ellie’s section in Seattle was incredible. At first it was slow but as soon as the fight at the elementary school kicks off it’s amazing from then on. But I do not like Abby, and it’s not even because she killed Joel, it’s more of the way she killed Joel, if you look more into the things Ellie and Abby do, you will clearly see who is the better person. It is absolutely Ellie. Every time Ellie kills one of abbys friends, she clearly doesn’t want to. All she wants is information on Abby. She only kills them because they make her. Ellie asks Nora where Abby is, Nora decides to insult Joel and torment Ellie and then hit her over the head and run. Ellie catches up in the end. Nora will become infected and Ellie asks again and says if she tells her she will kill her quickly, Nora still refuses, so Ellie has to torture her to get the information.
    Now Owen and Mel. It’s the same thing. Ellie had them at gunpoint and asked where Abby was. They attack her so she has to kill them, now I want to compare Ellie and Abby, when Ellie finds out that Mel was pregnant right after she killed her, she literally has a panic attack, and almost throws up. But whilst Abby is beating the living shit out of Ellie and Dina, Ellie tells her to stop and that Dina is pregnant. Abby, with a knife to an unconscious Dina’s throat, says “good” and is about to kill when she sees that lev is crying then lets her go.
    Finally, let’s look at abby’s reason for killing Joel. Abby traveled for years to find, torture and kill Joel because Joel was forced to kill her horrible father, who was going to kill a little girl to make a vaccine that wouldn’t even have worked, without her or Joel knowing, so Joel fights through the hospital to get to the room, where instead of letting Joel take her, he pulls out scissors and doesn’t let him pass, forcing Joel to kill him. Then Abby, as I said travels for a long time and runs into him. Keep in mind that Joel and Tommy just saved her from being ripped to shreds by a huge horde of infected so she gets them in a room with her friends and she tortures him and knock out Tommy. Ellie walks in and is tackled by Jordan and she defends herself. Then she gets pinned down, beaten up by Jordan, and is forced to watch Abby murder the closest thing to a father she ever had. Idk about you but I think if I were Abby i would stop after hearing Ellie’s pleads and screaming
    If you like Abby please tell me why

This is the kind of people that they are tunnel, vision, one dimensional, can’t think outside of the box. I respect the other people have other opinions, but they need to see that everybody becomes a monster when they need to Joel is not inherently a bad man and neither is Abby. They live in a different world now, and this is what they chose to do.

    Today I finished the game. It got me.. It got me really bad. For at least 6 days I was obsessed and I wanted to end it so quickly because was beatiful and immersive. It's undeniable the fact that you can get through all the type of emotions while playing this game, especially fear. I was so confused initially and couldn't believe at the death of Joel.. It was too soon and to quick. But the more I was getting in revenge mode, the more I was getting excited to find Abby. But then when I started to play Abby, I really didn't want to do it, I was disliking Abby for what she did, even tho I was always questioning what Joel did so bad, to deserve that type of death. Once I finish Abby perspective I understood her and I saw she was trying to be a good person and Elle all the sudden, became kinda the bad one, because if we think Abby left Elle leave twice, and she did what she did because Joel killed her father. But Elle killed at least 3 of Abby's close friend. Any way I reach the end that I couldn't no more... It was draining at some point, because I didn't want to kill anyone anymore...
    But I can really say that was beautiful and touching. Absolutely the best videogame ❤️

    The Last of Us Part I is to Saving Private Ryan as The Last of Us Part II is to Schindler’s List. One u is s certainly very graphic and unflinching, but still full of so much hope and good that you are left feeling happy and hopeful. The other is very different. It’s about depicting the worst that humanity is capable of while having people sacrifice everything just to create a little bit of hope. Both are great in very different ways because they are very different. One is an enjoyable experience worth revisiting time and time again. The other is not very enjoyable and will probably only be experienced once or twice, but that doesn’t make it bad. People hate Part II because it’s not what they wanted. But that just might be what makes it so great, even if it’s hard to enjoy it

      I agree that each game has a different tone. However, because Part one is hopeful, I feel that you only need to play it once to understand the characters. Part 2 is very complex and warrants multiple playthroughs to see what you missed. Especially since it's very likely, that personal biases affected everyone's first playthrough. Also the gameplay is such a vast improvement over part 1

    This game turned into my favorite of all time, hands down. It’s been seven months and it sticks in my mind like if it was yesterday.
    I think it proves how childish and easy to digest gaming narratives are. This was like playing Game of Thrones with the tone of a Cormac McCarthy book. You get to see all sides of the same conflict, but you have to commit to actions you, as a player, don’t necessarily agree with. And characters are flawed people in an extreme and hostile world, condemmed from the first page. And that’s great. It expands possibilities in the gaming landscape. This is what makes gaming unique as a narrative form. Not everything has to be about the player and giving him narrative agency.

    Possibly the most insightful video on this amazing game. Thank you. In my opinion those who hated this game are simply emotionally unable to absorb it, they lack the necessary empathy. This is not intended in a hateful way, it's just true that people's relationships with their own emotions vary greatly for tonnes of different reasons that even science and medicine don't always understand, and those relationships are not always too healthy or open. It's a game that forces the player to challenge their ability to empathise with 'the other', and that doesn't always go too well with evryone.

As someone who suffers with ptsd myself I’ve been saying for years mental health such as ptsd would massively increase. If mental illness is included in a zombie apocalypse story it adds another level of uncertainty. Mental health is so unpredictable and is a sad story by itself. Watching someone you love lose themselves due to their mental health is unforgiving. watching Ellie lose herself I felt her pain on certain aspects on her journey. So I hope tlou3 sticks to the dark aspects the second one did maybe even darker!

    1. abby killed joel in a way thats unredeemable. Killing him wouldnt have been that bad but torturing him beforehand is too far 2. the story was supposed to show how revenge was bad but only negatively impacted ellie at the end of the day ellie lost everyone important to her and her way to play to play guitar her connection to joel. 3. Abby constantly screwed over most of the people she lost so abby is either a terrible person or didnt care about her “friends” 4. abby survived at the end for no reason after having ellie kill thousands and lose everything when they could of justified it by having ellie spare abby for levi who hasnt wronged her. 5. Revenge is the biggest part of this game its reason the events of this game happen and is reason we r supposed to understand abby but when thru this theme of revenge and perspective abby is rewarded for the bad shit she did when ellie wasnt and joel even wasnt since as we saw in the last of us part 2 him and ellie didnt have a happily ever as a father and daughter after even before abby 6. The true meaning of this story is that at the end, ellie realises that she hates more herself than abby. In fact at the moment of the flashback with joel playing the geetar, we realize that ellie can't forgive herself to have waste a very long time being angry to joel, and because of his death that time is not coming back anymore. That's why she doesn't kill abby, because she knows that killing her is not going to solve that interior thurmoil. She realizes that she has to live with that pain and guilt and realeses abby for that reason, vengeance is not going to free her soul. Sorry for my bad english

I don't know if I agree with the idea that Ellie needed to kill hundreds of people to come to the conclusion that killing Abby won't change her feelings about Joel and revenge is bad. I feel like Ellie should have been smarter than that. But Regardless of how she came to the conclusion though, this game's entire revenge plot only exists because they introduced the idea that your gameplay actions from the first game have consequences, and those consequences led to Joel's death so by that logic the gameplay of this game would completely contradict the resolution to this cyclical vengence idea that it was trying to convey in the end since you just mindlessly murdered people almost in the same way Joel did in part 1, the only difference being that Joel did it to save Ellie, and not for revenge. If killing some random ass npc from the first game could lead to Joel's death than why wouldn't killing hundreds of other random ass npcs from the second game lead to similar consequences for Ellie? All of a sudden the cycle is broken and Ellie's conflict is resolved because she spared Abby even though she just killed that many people? It's so ridiculous.

      Wow! Despite a shorter voting period than last year, voter turnout in this year’s Game of the Year polls shattered previous records, coming in at over 2.5 million total votes across all categories. Thank you!
      PS Blog readers declared Naughty Dog’s long-awaited follow-up The Last of Us Part II the clear champion this year
      Not to mention tlou2 was winning in the players voice voting up until Druckmann posted a premature F you tweet to his haters that got reddit and 4chan to form vote for Tsushima threads....similar to the review bombing on metacritic 😂

      @@ddp5406 You know what's funny. 18.3M people voted in TGA player's choice. Add up sold copies of each nominee, it'll be 13.6M. If we consider every single player voting and not the people who have more than one of these games and we probably counted them twice or three times,

    I honestly don’t understand why people hate this game, i loved it. I got both games for my birthday and as soon as I finished the first game, I started the second and I thought it was great

    The point is, this game is about perspective, and some people, well actually all people irregardless of this game, have personal biases, loyalties, love for some people over others, are blinded by their beliefs, feelings, experiences and faithfulness. That is true for this game and real life, that's humans work. If we could all be completely objective and unbiased and see things from everyone's point of view and have no thoughts or biases of our own then we wouldn't be human, we would be robots. Like Joel says at the end of the first game "you keep finding something fight for." Something, or someone, to fight for. Care for. Love. Protect. Belief in. Be loyal to. And to us, as fans of the last of us, that is Joel and Ellie. So when they try to make us see things from the perspective of the person who kills Joel, whether it was justified or not, whether Joel's choice and actions in the last game were justified or not, we don't care, because it doesn't matter, because Joel and Ellie and more important than a philosophy lesson. They are more important than the story they wanted to tell. People already made up their minds. They would rather pretend this game never ended so that Joel and Ellie in an alternate reality in our minds are alive and happy, because that's what we want for them
