Absolutely nailed the point about the dodge mechanic and I’ve been saying it’s probably the only thing really stopping me from buying the game at this price. It added so much depth to the combat of part 2 with such a simple change and it would have been enough to make this game much more fun and would also justify, for me, calling it a remake, but I’ll definitely buy it on sale since I love the game and don’t mind experiencing it again with an upgrade

@@apnerds Just saw a video where they talk about their reasoning for omitting the mechanic being “honouring the original”. @@Tuxxxido I understand that it’s intentional. Its absence still doesn’t subtract from the gameplay element any less. I'm currently playing it, and just met Sam & Henry (I'm also one of those who played the game aprox 20 times on the PS3, knowing every single detail of it). I got Part 1 as birthday present for myself, I really thought I would regret spending that much money.
But honestly, even with the missing dodge, I feel like it worth it.
Here's some of the reasons why (for ME, and MY personal opinion):
    - Goes without saying, the graphics, visuals, animations, water/smoke/fire/spores/blood/nature features are hands down the best I've ever seen.
You can literally even find tiny frogs in the grass, and zoom in on butterflies.
    - The gore is borderline scaring, and Is 10 times more extreme than in Part 2. Being able to literally paint the walls red with blood and guts, by throwing a nailbomb towards 3 unsuspecting enemies, did actually manage to make me gag a little bit.
    - The audio. I'm playing with my SteelSeries 7P+, and the audio design elevates everything to unimaginable levels. Having Joel putting his mask on while walking around in a pitch dark basement, and only hearing his nervous breathing, when suddenly hearing a tiny crack behind you somewhere, only for that crack to reveal itself as a stalker who now is rushing towards you, is hands down the most frightening gaming experience I've ever had.
The audio also clearly changes depending on if you're outside, inside, in a big or small room, if you have water nearby, etc.
I dont know how the fuck they did it, but I don't think audio can get better than this.
    - THE PHOTO MODE!
I've probably spend 50-100 hours in part 2 with photo mode, and frequently share said photos.
The fact that it's now in Part 1, AND with expanded light features, actually made me shed a smol happy tear when I saw it. It's chefs kiss.

Even more so on a title I have already beaten multiple times. If I was given a review code I, like you, would have loved it. But as just another one of the masses I will have to cough up the money if I want to play it. And I don't really care to play it that bad.

I was already planning on getting this remake (I played the PS4 version several times), so when I finally got my hands on a PS5, getting this version of the game was inevitable. As of January this year, I think they've updated and patched enough to make it pretty seamless. There's still some stiffness in melee animations like you mentioned, and there is a counter button in combat now (I don't know if that was always available at launch or not) but I am looking forward to completing my favorite game of all time again. And the fact that these visuals are on par with and even above and beyond Part 2's is fantastic. It will be such a worthwhile transition into Part 2, when before, it felt like Part 2's transition was too jarring.
Great video my man. Keep it up! Endure and survive!

I think this new remake is better and isn’t just naughty dog trying to milk the game like some people may suggest, however there seems to be constant continuity errors that weren’t there in the original. For example at 15:24 Joel’s watch is already broken, however in the original it’s not been broken yet. In another video I saw of the remake, it’s at the ending where Ellie is feeling her bite while sitting in the car, however for some reason her sleeve was not pulled back like in the original, so her fingers are going though her sleeve. Of course these can be fixed in a patch, but things like that should have been fixed and patch in beta because they break the immersion. Anyway, great review 👍

I think the lack of a dodge is a respectable choice I feel like so many games rely on cheap dodging as a crutch for players to play recklessly & thoughtlessly while not being really punished for it cause it's really forgiving. Dodging is cool & it can be amazing gameplay mechanic I like a reactive playstyle sometimes but I think the Fromsoft i-frame easily spammable dodge trend is just way too accepted as a ubiquitous gameplay improvement that any & all games where you move & fight in 3D space should adopt and be better for.
The Last of Us is a game that has a lot of it's gameplay roots in the survival horror genre & those games make your decisions about where you move, positioning & coordination paramount. TLoU is a linear game but it provides a lot of similar gameplay loops of resource management, exploration & tough combat. Dodging & more advanced movements for avoiding enemies being in games like that were a huge debate and still are because of this.
You have to plan your nearly every action it's more proactive than reactive & TLoU captured that so well with it's weighty, considered movements everything you do in the game is a real commitment. Joel can't dodge clickers or dudes wildly swinging machetes at him like he's John Wick or something... the game is "grounded" as ND put it you have to really think before you act. The gameplay is less improvisational than Part II and I think that's what sets it apart
I love Part II so much I think it's great but honestly isn't it like way more "gamey" I guess that Ellie & Abby so easily avoid a lot of attacks with a little jukin & jivin' like that would actually stop someone from attacking again before you can do another fancy dodge or just stop and wait for you to finish then attack. I'm not one to usually criticize games for lack of feeling grounded but that's the exact point of The Last of Us I think dodging in close range fights to the death is not in the grounded spirit prone definitely was though.
The very first thing The Last of Us tutorialized to the player when they get control of Joel is the "quick turn" ability which allows you to quickly 180 the camera a staple of the survival horror genre it's a really important gameplay mechanic people overlook and think is just a QoL feature despite it being something the game actually teaches & makes you do in the first few moments of gameplay not a tooltip you can miss or nothing.
I like how in TLoU1 if you are in trouble in close range surrounded by enemies you don't have any dodge or specific moves to help get out of it... you have to turn & run for your life weaving through or hitting/killing enemies if they in your way, try to get better positioning, reload, heal up, whatever you need to do & then keep trying to get the advantage back in any way you can.

Sony is charging more for this remake than they did when the game came out as an original game back in 2013 and this remake is more than the price Last of Us part 2 was sold for! Both of those being original with way more work being done to them. I’d rather pay full price for a brand new game/story like God of War Ragnarok.
I won’t argue the masterpiece that last of us is but the asking price for this remake makes it only a recommendation for first time players or those that will come after the HBO series which is great for them but this could’ve been an EASY recommendation to EVERYONE if the asking price from Sony/Naughty Dog was $40, maybe $50. This remake looks awesome but improved graphics and mainly quality of life improvements don’t justify a full new game price of $70

I'm enjoying the game so far but whyyyyy is no one talking about the games visual bugs and glitches??? There are so many so far. Mostly pop in and textures disappearing and objects just despawning once you leave a room. In the room in bills town where Ellie talks about Tess the closet door just outside the rooms door literally just despawns if you stand right behind the rooms door frame and you can see straight out the map! And the some buildings in the draw distance have so much flickering with lighting and textures fighting against each other. So much objects disappearing and reappearing out of no where exposing the games out of bounds areas. And if you try to crouch walk on a plank, joels knees literally go right through the piece of wood, in the original the game would make you automatically stand up when crossing a plank. There are so many visual bugs and glitches in this release it's so unusual for a naughty dog game to have so many. Especially when these issues weren't in the original - it's throwing me off so much :( if anyone would like me to upload these glitches to my YT just ask and I'll do so..

RE2, FF7, Demons Souls etc probably took far more resources and were substantial remakes. The asking price is therefore fair. 70$ for TLOU remake is honestly ridiculous as this is the exact same game despite the “rebuilding” from the ground up

I mean dude the animations are the only major update that makes this worth it, and no doubt it's a big difference but this still seems incredibly redundant and cash grabby. Like they're just trying to get as much out of this dying ip as they can before noone gives a shit anymore. I mean like it or not most people didn't like what part 2 did with the characters we liked from the first. The story pissed almost anyone that was attached to the last of us off. And now they're just retelling the story we like again, in the form of a remake, a tv show, like, idk. Maybe I'm wrong but it feels like they're just trying to capitalize

  • @Ori_Kohav
    @Ori_Kohav Рік тому +5

I’ll be honest, I still prefer part 2 because of the story, and I’m still bitter about having to play the part in which Joel robs Ellie of her rightful choice, without him suffering any consequence before part 2. That’s the main reason I’m reluctant to fully play part 1. Maybe it could have been better if the flashback of Ellie learning the truth would be a post credits scene in part 1.
Also, a little nitpick, but I heard the remake’s platinum run doesn’t require finishing on a high difficulty. To me, that devalues the satisfaction of getting the platinum trophy. I mean, there’s still some good deal of satisfaction to it, but not as much as if you have to play on a high difficulty, like what I felt when platinuming each of the first 3 Uncharted games in “The Nathan Drake Collection”, which required playing from start to end on crushing mode.
There’s also something I’ve been wondering since the release of part 2. One of Ellie’s biggest advantages over Joel and Abby is that she has a knife, and therefor doesn’t need to craft shivs. Why couldn’t Joel (or Abby) get a knife? Gameplay-wise, it makes sense, but story-wise, it’s a bit weird.

And it doesn't matter which version that you're playing. That scene where Sarah is dying was heartbreaking to watch in all versions... We all probably had that same expression on Tommy's face when we all first saw that scene for the first time and again after we've seen it for a second and third time after? 😢💔

There's certainly a difference between the Remake and Remaster, but I will say I liked the character models of the first game more. I realize they are nowhere NEAR as detailed, but they really encapsulate, to me, at least, the personalities better. If they tried to keep the same proportions, it would have been even more awesome, but keep in mind, this is just a personal taste nitpick sort of thing. I'm truly glad they made this.

People still think the remaster looks good because of the cinematics but what most people don't realise is these are pre rendered cgi. It's not the game engine so it still holds up. The actual remaster in game does not hold up anymore. What is remarkable though it that the Ingame graphics in this new version are far superior to the pre rendered cgi. It's an extraordinary improvement but to charge 70 in September 2022 is absolutely disgraceful. I will just watch the game as a movie and pick it up in a couple of years cheap. I had to force myself to finish this video before I tell you somethings
    1. All of what you have said in this video about updated graphics visuals is great but not improving gameplay mechanics and expanding the environment from what we Previously had makes this game a mastered game for the ps5 not a remake.
    2. A remake game is taking what the original game had and expanding it.
    3. The last of us part 1 is titled a remake for ps5 but in reality it is a remastered for ps5 for the price of $70.00 plus tax.
    4. This game was made because of the backlash from the last of us part 2 shit storyline or storylines and false marketing.
    5. If you want to make a living making content. You will need to learn for starters the difference between a remake and a remastered.
    6. You need a better understanding of what Contant you are making. If you don’t understand what I mean?

just sad that the incredible narrative of the first game(my favourite STORY game of all time) was ruined by the second game. ND betrayed their fans and the beloved characters portraying them in such a bad light. the release of this remake makes me realise how much better this franchise could've been if Neil took the more logical direction rather than trying to do the impossible and knowingly taking a massive risk with TLOU 2

But the problem about what direction they should’ve taken it, remember the gaming community themselves have put a standard or have asked for devs to be more creative and take risks instead of playing it safe. If ND would’ve went the logical route, then it was going to still be shitted on. Whatever decision ND would decide, it was still gonna come to bite them back in the ass.
