  • In this video, I will give a few reasons why Abby is Loved in The Last of us 2 and by some The Last of Us fans. As controversial it is to say that Abby's characters is actually loved, there is no denying The Last of Us community actually do like Abby as a character. This series on examining Abby as a character and finding reasons why she is Hated and Loved, is meant to open a conversation between those who hate and love this character and this game, and see if we can have a civil conversation to see if we can understand each other.

I think the point of Abby is show that there are many Joels and Ellies in the world of Last of Us. Last of Us isn't just the story of Joel and Ellie anymore. Abby is Lev's Joel.

I love Abby (particularly her and Lev and her and Owen) but I still don't think her character (or Dina, for that matter, who I also love) and the points her story made were worth denying us either a lot more time focussed on or an entire game with Joel and Ellie.

One slight disagreement I have in this video is when Abby's redemption started. Yeah, helping Yara and Lev was a huge step in this, but it seems to me like she started her redemption the moment she snuck out of the QZ to figure out what the hell happened with Owen (because Isaac refused to do so himself, and felt comfortable enough to believe the hotheaded Danny). That act alone was a huge life risk for a very selfless reason, and it would have gotten her killed if it wasn't for Yara and Lev.

Yeah and to back that up even after they saved her she still got in that argument with Owen about the scars and leaving everything behind. She still was all about helping the wolves and even basically begged Owen to stay and fight for the wolves.

I think the fact that so many people hate Abby and refuse to empathize with her just reinforces the statement Neil Druckman is making about people and our divisive nature. I can perfectly understand why Abby did what Abby did. But what I can't stomach is the fact that she thought of brutalizing or torturing a man who just saved her instead of just finishing him. She doesn't even think twice before voluntarily slit a pregnant woman's throat. She is no doubt an absolute bitch. The fact that everything is fair for her but not for anyone else bothers me too. That's my only problem with this character.

I feel like some players don't know how to compartmentalize. Like, you can hate the act of her killing Joel without hating her. You can love Joel and Abby at the same time. It is not mutually exclusive. All you need to do is accept that she had her reasons for killing Joel, and understand that she only knew the worst parts of Joel leading up to killing him so it was easy for her to degrade him. Personally, found her to be a compelling character. She wasn't a Mary Sue and was able to develop as a character in a natural way. She's a great addition to TLOU series.

@@christianjimenez3172 Really? I don't feel like the game forced me to feel any type of way toward her or Ellie.
It made sense that Ellie would go on a negative character arc given where she is in life. Joel took away any true meaning from her life and then she witnessed him die in a brutal manner before she was able to reconcile with him. Ellie has an uncontrollable temper and bottles up her emotions, a quality she learned from Joel, until they erupt. This is established in the first game when she brutally kills David and is emotionally withdrawn afterwards.
Mel and Yara are both right when it comes to Abby. Mel thinks Abby is a POS and Yara thinks she is a good person. There is truth to what both are saying. POS Abby kills a man by torturing him to death, justifies killing Scar kids who were just following orders, sleeps with the man her friend is having a baby with, etc. Good person Abby accepts Lev for who he is when his own mother wouldn't, fights the abomination known as the Rat King to save a kid's life, and searches for the Fireflies in order help with their mission statement to restore society. Abby is capable of both good and bad like Ellie. No one is better or worse. Ellie is just like Abby before Jackson. The point is to get them on a level playing field. Abby had her short-lived negative character arc at the start of the game and what we see in flashbacks. In order to develop her character further she must go on a positive character arc or she will be a static character.

Just to be fair to the other point of view, the reason people don't care about Abby is she is not a good person.
She killed the murderer of her father, who Abby KNEW killed him to save Ellie. I don't care who she lost, she has to be pretty self absorbed to not to at least acknowledge why Joel killed her father.
Her sparing Ellie on the first occasion was primarily the influence of Owen, if you watch the scene he was the only thing that got between Ellie and a bullet. Abby stops them after Owen has already done it. On the second occasion it was entirely the influence of Lev.
She helped Lev sure, but that is mostly out of guilt more than anything else, which is at least a step onto the path of redemption, but is not really enough to redeem everything else.
She is not a strong woman. Quite the opposite in fact. She is selfish, irresponsible, uncaring and cold, manipulative and spiteful. She endangers other peoples lives without concern, she allows her hatred to overshadow any empathy, she takes no responsibility for her actions, and does whatever she wants without considering or facing the consequences of her actions.
At least she isn't a coward, but even considering her perspective she isn't a character to look up to, which I think is the point.

What I love about Abby is that she seems more like an actual person than a fictional character: there are no grand speeches, she doesn't wear her heart on her sleeve, yet there are plenty of subtle indications throughout her part of the game that suggest she's deeply troubled by what she did (wasting four years screwing up her relationships by being obsessed with revenge, then hunting down and beating an old man to death).
By all indications, until the Wrath of Joel, she was just a sweet, kind of nerdy kid. An old soul: She loves classic literature, classical music and jazz. Pine scented soap. She seems to be well-liked and respected in her adopted WLF community.
But she also knows that something is wrong: once her desire for revenge was over, she began to realize (as Owen suspected before she did) that she had been indoctrinated into taking on a cause that she didn't really believe in. She knew she had to "look for the light," as the Fireflies say, and "find something to fight for," as Joel said at the end of Part 1.
Of course she's also a badass. A killing machine that feels like playing as a Joel with more military training and less arthritis (although she really should get her shoulder looked at).
As much as I like Abby as a character, it's her relationship with Lev that really sticks with me. We only get a short glimpse of how they are together after the events of Seattle are long behind them, and they are calm and happy. There is a purity there, and an unconditional love that offers one of the few glimmers of hope in this tragic tale.

Funny how this video was posted today, right when i blew my own mind today about probably her most important line in the game, the "You're my people" line, before i only thought it had one meaning, the obvious one of Abby accepting Lev as one of her close friends and people that he can count on but it has two more meanings.
One of them is to show that her arc of sheding herself from tribalism has concluded and to also wrap up Lev's arc of not being accepted as a person or in other words the transphobia that he experienced, so "people" in that line could also mean that Abby accepts Lev not only as a friend but he is also finally accepted as a human being, she accepts him as "people".
It has been 7 months later and i still see different things in the writing, i don't think anyone will ever be able to convice me that this game has trash writing, i just feel sorry for the people that weren't able to enjoy it.

Anyways, Abby grew on me, when I seen her grow up, just like Ellie did. I finally loved Abby, because she's gone through the same sort of pain, that Ellie went through. So, Abby & Ellie are quite the same in my eyes. Obviously I love Ellie more because of the first game! Joel & Ellie were a perfect team. Joel obviously has done VERY BAD THINGS to survive in a world of the dead & living. No one knows what's it like to live in a grey dead world. The remaining people who are still surviving are literally killing each other. For what, we may ask. Instead of joining each other & trying to survive this grim dark grey dead world. This game had me on an emotional roller coaster. I felt sad. I felt hurt, betrayed & robbed. But, I F**KING ENJOYED EVERY SINGLE MINUTE OF MY TIME I SPENT PLAYING THIS BEAUTIFUL GAME! Hopefully Naughty Dog & Sony make another TLOU, but make it a prequel, of Joel's missing 20yrs. How he survived all those years after his Daughter Sarah passed away. That would definitely work for me. Cool video AP NERDS. 👍

Although i hated what she did to joel, the game made me understand and sympathize with her. Abbys actions aren’t always good but they’re also not bad either. She saved two kids that meant NOTHING to her. She practically became levs Joel and by that i mean that she learned to love and protect a kid that meant nothing to her in the begining just like joel did in the first game. I understand if someone doesnt like abby and its your opinion and i respect it but sending death threats to laura bailey and jocelyn mettler crosses the line. I love Abby so much. She’s not a bad person, she’s just misunderstood and in pain over experiencing her fathers death at such a young age. She let her anger and trauma blind her to the things she still had left like Owen, all of her friends at the WLF, and much more. She is shown after killing Joel to feel a deep level of guilt for what she has done and realized that killing him didn’t make her feel better about her father, and her whole teams death, but instead made her feel worse and empty. So she then changes herself around and when given the opportunity, saves lev and yaras lives and realizes that being good for others makes her feel better about her past as the night she saved yara, she didn’t have a nightmare but instead walked into the operation room and see her father alive and well. But one of the biggest reasons I love her is because I see nothing but myself in her. The similarities between me and this character is what made me connect so deeply with her. I don’t want this to turn into me venting about my personal shit but all I will say is my and Abby’s experiences are incredibly similar and I myself have also done something horrible that I regret for nothing but revenge or to just feel something. My entire childhood was just shattered at the age of 11 when I was violently assaulted and r@ped, and when I watched a man shoot himself in the street when I was just walking to the subways with my mum. Ever since I was 11 my life has gone completely downhill and my anger for that man and for the way the police treated me after I managed to get back to my house from the assault drove me into complete madness where when anyone would bully me back at school when I was in eighth grade, I would hurt and beat them brutally to prove to myself I wasn’t weak and that I was worthy of respect. The things I did to people after the trauma I endured at such a young age haunted me and I then strives to become a better person. Until I got into multiple abusive relationships, got an eating disorder and witnessed my girlfriend attempt suicide in front of my eyes only for me to watch her get taken away by medical professionals. My PTSD from the shit I’ve seen and been though causes violent nightmares where I wake up in a panic and have such an intense surge of panic that I have to run to the bathroom and throw up because of the amount of adrenaline that pumps through my body. When I found out about this game and played it i immediately just started crying like a little noch because of how much I related to Abby and it made me feel less alone even though she is just a character. I will definitely admit that some of the hate she receives is completely valid and I am 10000% open to hearing the other perspectives that others have as it interests me on what other ppl view. So yeah there’s my rant on why I love this character personally and if you disagree with the love for this character I completely understand but I think the purposeful spreading of hate and slander is just un needed and i think it’s just best for everyone to just kindly and respectfully express our views and leave it at that because the amount of slander will only lead to chaos. If you read all of this then like, thank you omg I didn’t rlly expect anyone to read this bc of how long it is but yeah thanks! Have a Good day to whoever sees this!

I replayed the game. I don't think Ellie letting go of Abby was anything to do with Abby as a person. I mean get the sense it is a case of asking you about NPCs while just killing dozens of them. It is the game is more based on revenge based on grief than one based on retribution. I think most people dislike the game miss this. I don't think Ellie and Abby care for either even on some kind of hateful level. It seems like people are projecting feelings on to Abby and Ellie. They want to make this some kind of shonen anime rivalry when it isn't really. For each other, both are almost like ''NPCs'' to each other. Abby didn't care for Ellie much until the theater. Even then when she told Abby about her immunity, Abby was confused and flabbergasted. She thought it was just Tommy coming after her friends. Abby never gave much thought to Ellie. She never imagines she had a fatherly bond with Joel. She probably thought Joel killed off that immune girl or gave her to a different group. After all, to a bystander, a smuggler caring for his human cargo would seem odd. It is similar for Ellie. Who is and why Abby did doesn't really matter to Ellie. Her rage to kill Abby seemed more like it was about unconscious guilt dealing with the fallout of their relationship after he told her the truth about what he did at the hospital. Ellie probably felt like she played a hand in his death by alienating him by keeping her distance from him. She destroyed a chance to connect with him and create so many great memories. Remember how many all of the flashbacks deal with Ellie's relationship with Joel. Chasing after Abby was an outlet to deal with that frustration.

i absolutely love abby, she is my favorite character in the game, i remember being genuinely surprised after finishing the game and going online to find out that some people hated her and wanted her dead at the end. It was so polarizing watching someone during the final fight saying "YES ELLIE DO IT" after i was saying "ELLIEEE please stopp". i just cant understand how anyone could play the entire game and not at least understand abby. I believe that by the end, abby has become a better person, compare the abby during the final fight and abby at the beginning of the game and you'll see a completely different person who developed over time. I also believe that ellie is beginning her redemption arc which already started by letting abby live and hopefully she will become a better person by the end of a part 3.
Imagine the first game is about abby and her father and you grow to love them then by the end a random smuggler comes out of no where and kills the character who you loved and stops your favorite character's ability to save humanity, Joel would look no less than a monster. Fast forward to the second game and now you play as Abby and you found the man who killed Jerry, every player would be so happy when abby kills him then imagine halfway through the second game it switches to Ellie, every player would be extremely pissed and ask why are they playing as the monster who killed their favorite character and doomed humanity's daughter. I genuinely enjoyed what you had to say in terms of why there are people who liked Abby's character. Admittedly, I was someone who was mixed on her character but as I thought about the game after finishing it, I've slowly started to admire her character even more. You make a good point that you can still like a character even if you don't like them as a person. Think about it: Many people love Joel despite the fact that he has done some terrible things for the sake of his own survival. Joel is an amazing character but not necessarily an amazing human being. Joel is a very flawed person but the first game humanized him. Abby is a flawed character but part 2 humanized her. If either of them were portrayed as perfect people with virtually no flaws, it would make for boing characters. The best characters are the ones who have just as many flaws as they do redeeming qualities.
While I understand that there are people who still hate Abby with a passion, I never understood why they thought sending death threats to Laura Bailey was going to do any good. In my opinion, if Abby really was a hateful character, she would have been written as a character who killed Joel for no reason at all. In addition to that, she would have left Yara and Lev on their own to die. Basically, she would have been portrayed as a character with absolutely no humanity nor would she have slowly changed herself for the better.
As time went on, I've come to the conclusion that The Last of Us Part 2, while not perfect, is a bold masterpiece. It's a game that I feel needs to be revisited at least one more time in order to get a better understanding of the themes of the story. How many times have we changed our opinion on a game or movie after a 2nd playthrough/viewing?
Anyway, I think your content is well made and I certainly hope your channel gains more attention as time goes on.

One thing anybody talks about Abby's personality is that she feels like a piece of shit in the game. We can see it 3 times. 1) "Owen: Under that badass exterior, you can be pretty sweet too. Abby: You have a bad memory." It looked like was a joke but it has deep meaning. 2) In gameplay day 3 Yara was talking about what Lev said to her about Abby's courage and Abby answer "He is a liar". 3)"Yara: Mel's wrong, y'know. You're a good person. Abby: You don't know me." This one is obvious to see the meaning.

Even though ellie is a sensitive person, she struggles with certain things she can't forget. She cannot forgive entirely his dad for what he did. At the same time that unforgiveness grants her a debt with his when he is murdered. Abby on the other hand is a hundred percent empathic person, she may feel anger and need for revenge but she doesn't burn the whole world as ellie to achieve it. She does what she have to do and that's it. She forgives and understands. Ellie doesn't, or at least not until she finds out that her whole vengeance was futile. She lost everything the same way she took everything from Abby to fulfill her vengeance. I must say I empathize more with Abby by the end of the game because of her compassion. I just finished my forth playthrough and I finally got a understanding of Abbie i didn't have before. She is us...the players. We feel abused and feel hate toward the devs. Abbie lets us see things from not only a different view but from a view of a outside person. Someone who didn't play the first game. But we did we fell in love with Joel and Ellie and we forgot that everyone we killed as Joel was a person. You play through the hospital sequence slaughtering without mercy as Joel gets us more and more hyped. We can only move forward. Abbie reminds us these are people with lives. Take a step back and once Abbie looks past the hatred of the scars she sees not all of are insane. It's not a matter of right or wrong for Abbie. It's a matter of principal. These kids are gonna die without you. They need you. Just as us the players needed Joel to die deep down for us to see past him. To see that what he did didnt just affect the world but it affected people. Our hatred of the game as a whole hurt those who slaved over it.

You can clearly tell she is a good person because when we get to her arc she constantly having nightmares and you always see this sad expression on her face. And when Mel got after her about a bad person she really was, you can clearly tell she literally hated how she is and what she did. I agree with you. Initially I hated Abbey ... did not understand her, what her motive was - nothing. But when we discover her reasons and start playing her I actually grew to like her character just as much as Ellie and Joel in fact in some ways more so. I think we would be lying to ourselves if we deny there is a bit of Abbey in all of us. What she did for Lev was her road to redemption. At first her drive was revenge for her dad ... if someone killed my folks would I feel any different? The only thing which was wrong was the way she killed him. Yes she also wanted to slit Dina’s throat even though she knew she was pregnant but that might have been in response to Ellie killing Mel and Owen.
At the end I didn’t want Ellie to kill Abbey and luckily I got my wish. Abbey didn’t want to fight Ellie so maybe she had finally seen the worth in revenge does not pay. Btw what a bad ass double act they would make on the same team.
I loved part 2 just as much as part 1 but that’s just my opinion and I hope they bring out a part 3 or at least a DLC/Lost Legacy type add on story.

Is Abby a horrible person? or did her environment and misfortunes make her this way? I think people who believe in an 'eye for and eye' mentality will connect with Abby as I did and loved her part as well as the chemistry with her an Lev. Keeping in mind it was Joel who killed her Father in the first place to start this cycle of death and that wasn't Abby's fault although her choices were the response to this hence killing Joel. Abby wasn't even aware of a lot of deaths of her friends such as the woman at the hospital and Leah at the TV station but seeing her love Owen dead and knowing it was her choices which caused it put it in perspective. As I played as Abby and Lev, I felt the chemistry from the first TLOU again and I liked that. I hope they make a return in the next game.

Abby is one of my favorite video game characters ever. She killed one of, if not the most beloved characters in this medium and yet I feel for her on an emotional level. That is a testament to how great this game is. Laura Bailey’s performance matched with the complexity of her character is some of the most refreshing character writing I’ve ever seen. Good characters are bad people doing good things and good people doing bad things. Joel wasn’t any better than her, he was blinded by his own selfishness. But yet we hate a vengeful daughter of man he killed who spared Ellie not once but twice. Abby showed remorse even after Ellie killed all her friends. The reason she did this was because she had someone to think about, a reason to survive and that was Lev. And that is exactly what Joel did and we don’t hate him for it, down purely to perspective. I find that fascinating and the game, a masterpiece. In fact I think it’s the greatest video game story of all time.

    (Edited)
The Last of Us Part II is truly a devise game. Its understandable that not everyone liked/loved Abby as a character. A lot of people even outright hated her for what she did to Joel and many wanted her to die. I know this game should not be considered a revenge story because there is a lot of other themes that are being explored such as empathy and forgiveness. But lets entertain the theme of revenge for a moment. I know a lot of people calling TLOU 2 a poorly written revenge story and going on about the "revenge is bad" and hated it. Why? Is it that this theme is universal and overused? Or are these people angry about Abby gets to live in the end? I really think its the latter. But why though? I wanna shed some light on one of the reasons why people are pissed about Abby gets to live in the end.
I've noticed a lot of trend lately involving revenge stories being glorified and romanticized in many movies and games. What I mean is that the revenge stories are portrayed in a heroic and glorified manner that makes it look good typically for the protagonists/heroes in the stories. Even more so when the villains/antagonists are truly despicable and evil individuals. Those stories are glorified to the point that many may consider "revenge is good". Movies like Gladiator (with Russel Crowe), Kill Bill (Vol 1-2), Inglorious Bastards, Django Unchained, John Wick, and games like GTA 4, Prototype 2, Dishonored, Shadow of Mordor, Ghost of Tsushima, and Red Dead Redemption 2 are all great examples of revenge stories being glorified because do you know why? Because most of these villains are portrayed as truly evil and one dimensional. Most of the heroes I pointed out above in those stories do not usually do not face serious consequences after defeating/killing the villains. My point is that we as the audience have mostly become accustomed and used to these typical romanticized revenge stories, which is why its so difficult for a lot of people to accept TLOU 2's ending. We relish seeing the villains suffer for the crimes they committed to the protagonist because we take in that feeling of catharsis we typically experience from glorified revenge stories and when don't get that feeling with Abby, people become furious We become angry with TLOU 2 for not being what we wanted. We also have to consider is that most of these revenge stories are written for entertainment purpose.
I also see a lot of people unfairly comparing TLOU 2's revenge theme with other revenge stories such as "If The Bride spare Bill because revenge bad", "If Django spare the brittle brothers because revenge bad", "If Niko Bellic spare Dimitri because revenge bad", and most iconic stories that people compare with TLOU 2 is "If John Wick spared the guy who killed his dog because revenge bad" and "If John Marston spared Micah because revenge is bad". Seriously these comments are ridiculous. Those villains got what they deserved, no need to dwell on the what ifs. Lets be honest, Iosef (the guy who killed John Wick's dog) is a scumbag and no less a son of a Russian mobster, and mobsters are typically portrayed as villains so revenge part are written to make them more justifiable. Micah Bell is a character that was written purposefully to be hated and with no redeeming qualities, making his death all the more satisfying. What we saw in TLOU 2 portrayed revenge in a different manner as there is no satisfaction for Abby when she killed Joel. Ellie will not get the same satisfaction from killing Abby either. And neither of those deaths are glorified.
I think people's perception of revenge are shaped by those kinds of glorified revenge stories. The bitter reality is that revenge in real life is not so romanticized or glorified than we make it out to be in movies and games. I'm nor talking about revenge as a prank or get even with someone. I'm talking about the kind of revenge that involves killing a person who took the life of a loved one from you. The kind of revenge that is shown in TLOU 2. The kind of revenge that slowly poisons you and becomes an obsession. Ask yourself, is real life revenge truly glorified? Will you truly feel better after killing that person who took your loved one? Will you be able to walk away without facing any repercussions? If you answer yes to all those questions, then ask yourself "Do I want to find out?" or "Can I afford to find out?" Do you wanna hear my answer? I pray that you and I never find out. I pray we never have to experience ourselves in Ellie or Abby's shoes in real life.
What do you thing AP Nerds? What is your take on my long essay?
In terms of my personal perspective on Abby as a character, she is a well written character because she is written as a human being. But I'm still personally with team Ellie.

My own viewpoint: I don't think Ellie letting go of Abby has anything to do with her as a person. It is just an internalized struggle. It isn't really about how ''thinking about NPCs'' and then ignoring dozens of NPCs you killed. The game is more about revenge based on grief than revenge based on retribution.
I don't think Ellie and Abby really even think about each other much and even on some kind of hateful level. It seems like the fanbase wants to turn into some kind of shonen anime rivalry when it isn't really. That's why the discussion about Abby has become a ''Team Ellie'' and '' Team Abby'' when it isn't really.
Abby didn't even notice Ellie much until the theater. Even then when she told Abby about her immunity, Abby was flabbergasted. She figured it was just Tommy going after them. Abby never gave much thought to Ellie.
That's why all of the flashbacks during Ellie's section deal with the points as Ellie and Joel's relationship keep deteriorating. Chasing after Abby was an outlet to deal with that frustration. Abby isn't even on her mind when she's trying to drown her. So, Last of Us part 2 is more about than revenge based on grief than retribution.

@@ash9280 I agree completely! Ellie's anger is derived from her unconscious guilt of alienating Joel. However, when the TLOU 2 came out and a lot of people are angry about Abby getting to live, I don't think a lot of people really realized Ellie's internal struggle. They're fixated on Ellie getting to kill Abby for what she did. People are expecting another one of those as you said "retributive revenge story". Like I said in my long comment, people enjoy and gravitates towards these glorified revenge stories because they're emotionally appealing and satisfying. We enjoy a hero triumph over the villain and getting their revenge in those stories, usually killing the villain. A lot of people are expecting another one of those retribution revenge story with TLOU 2 and like you said, it's really more about Ellie dealing with her grief.

And now we need a video about why joel is loved.

    • @ronifr837
      @ronifr837 3 роки тому +5

Honestly theres not a lot to that. Practically joel is so loved because hes so broken. We get to sympathize with him every second he spends with ellie knowing what went down with sarah. Occasionally we see him get protective over ellie and loving her like his daughter. We also see how he never forgets about sarah and definitely does not replace her with ellie. Hes such a loving man and will go all the way to protect and help not just his loved ones but everyone in need just like he did with abby.. we get to see him evolve and become a better person. Generally i would say that people who are really closed to themselves ( just like joel was in the beginning of the 1st game) are the ones that you feel the need to connect with them, not just in the game but in real life too..You wanna be liked by everyone ( idk if its just me but i dont think so lol)so while joels and ellies relationship grows, the players connection to joel does too. You feel like the more he accepts ellie into his life he does the same with you. ( idk if thats how you feel though i definitely do so um i guess i tried explaining my point of view but if you dont thats ok you can lmk why tho im open to anything :))

@@ronifr837 that's is one of the most incredible comments i've ever see in a long time. Well Joel is my all time favorite character in any media due to his mindbloying character development. The thing is many people say that they do him dirty in part 2 and his death was diserspectful to his character as one of the most beloved character in gaming but what i want to say is what truly matter in a man life is not how he died but how he lived. Joel killed to survive, he doomed humanity just because he didn't want to lose Ellie, and he becomed a good man in jackson saving stranger and helping people to protect jackson, he even becomed a man of god remember "if somehow the lord..." ,and a man of art and music and finaly a loving father. That's what i called a good character development.

@@mohamedmejdoubi4717 this is exactly what im talking about. He knew that what he did was wrong so he tried to change for the better. He supports ellies choices and loves her like no one ever has. Hes a loving and kind man and thats what cost him his life. If you remember in the first game while him and ellie first set foot in Pittsburg she asked him about the hunters and how he knew that it was a trap. There he admits to her that in fact he has killed alot of people but when Joel settles in jakson with ellie he takes a turn for the better. He knows that this empty choice he made cost humanity the cure to this mess, so i think that in a way he tries to make up for that by helping people survive. That includes taking patrols, helping abby or even in a way defending ellie when seth started harassing her.. this man is just incredible and what hurt me the most is the way ellie treated him during that scene and any other besides the museum. All this time we spent with the duo in the first game we see that ellie wanted his acceptance.. it really messes with your head the fact that in part two its the other way around. Joel tries to get ellie to forgive him and make things right again. Its bizarre..

@@ronifr837 I think that Ellie's revenge show how she cared about Joel. She love him more than anything in the world. She even left Dina just to avenge him, and the final scene show how much she cared about him. When joel said to Ellie "I will do it all over again" she realise that the choice that Joel made in the first game wad the right one, she even write on her journal earlier on the game that she can't tell Jesse and Dina her bestfriends about the truth about Joel because they won't understand. I can talk about this story aaaaall day this why i love it.

It took me a very long time to see abby perspective, I may not love abby but i understand now her not as a character but as a human being, I see what she was doing now, and sometimes I can be selfish and i put myself first before others but now i see it now i see everyones perspective on this character, i dont love this but ive learned to appreciate it now. Thank you for helping me seeing a different side of abby! Much love and respect 👏❤

There is always gonna be different perspective and if we just try to just understand other views, we can appreciate the differences although we don’t necessarily gotta agree all the time which is ok. Much love and respect back to you Callum and thanks for being such a respect guy while sharing your views 🙏🏼

Game of the generation for me.. I understand why both women have desires to seek revenge. Put that aside for a second and drown yourself in the amazing game play, music and storyline this game offers... this game is not about revenge.. its about putting yourself in someone else's shoes and seeing that we all arnt much different. Love your videos sir keep up the excellent work

The parallels between Joel and Abby is insane. They both lost a beloved family member and that made them cynical and bitter. They have both brutally murdered many to try heal that pain but it was all for nothing and didn’t make them feel better. They both lost relationships due to their ruthlessness but they found their light (Ellie and lev) which gave them something to fight for and protect which restored their humanity. Both of their consequences caught up to them, Joel was brutally killed and all Abby’s friends were killed. In the theatre, Abby realised that killing Dina would make her no better than Ellie for killing Mel and she decided to end the cycle cause she knew she would lose more if she did kill Dina. Ellie realised this too, she saw Abby’s love for lev was a parallel to Joel’s love for her and knew if she killed Abby infront of lev, it would be the same as the way she witnessed Joel die and lev would seek revenge and probably harm Dina or jj. Ellie realised that Joel wanted Ellie’s life to be comfortable and happy, which she would have on the farm with Dina. The damage is done, so many are dead and so many relationships are broken because of two broken people, there is no good or bad guy, no one is good in the world of the last of us, the game is trying to tell the story of perspective because if the first game was in Abby’s pov, you’d be watching Joel’s death with popcorn. There’s no point not even trying a game and then bashing the cast and crew because you didn’t understand the story, Laura Bailey didn’t deserve death threats and she did a phenomenal performance and deserved her award for best performance in the game awards. The last of us part 2 is complicated but in a way, a beautiful story about humanity.

I understand he was defending himself but BRUH...IT'S A FUCKING KNIFE. He could've simply knocked him out then left then BOOM! No Abby problems, no nothing and everyone has a good life.
