The raw your getting is great, add the hemp oil as stated, plus the others. If you come across raw green tripe, great dog food plus use canned sardines (in water only) and eggs raw.

Kefir grains are pretty easy to find online and homemade kefir is very very easy to make. Homemade kefir is even stronger than that which you buy in the store. I make a batch every day with the highest quality milk I can find (ideally raw) and enjoy some myself along with puppy and kitty. It's a health secret weapon for us all!
I was making both water and milk Kefir for a few years now but I never gave my dog any of it because it was too sweet to me. I eventually gave up the water Kefir during the spring last year because I was the only one drinking it and it was time consuming and daunting with making both milk and water kefir at the same time. I continue making goat milk Kefir mainly for the health benefits for myself and my dog. I occasionally by water kefir and Kombucha for myself. P.s. I’m live in Illinois and I can’t find any raw milk anywhere around here so my main milk was Kalona Super Natural organic whole milk and Leclaire goat milk both found ONLY at Whole Foods which is about 13 miles away from my home.

Thank you for this helpful information! My dog loves goat kefir :) I’ve been told by people who make kefir that adding honey to it isn’t great because honey is a natural antibiotic which will destroy the probiotics in kefir if combined with it.
Honey is actually a great prebiotic to feed probiotics so your fine. Goat kerfir is the best.

Hello Dan! Thank you so much for being there for so many of us, your words or wisdom are so valuable as being a pet parent is such a learning experience & we just don’t know what we’re into sometimes! If you have a minute do you think that even the goat keifer that I feed my I little ones could be hurting her out of control yeasts lately ? I thought it was just goat keifer that I recently bought but it says there is an ingredient called tapioca starch in it. Is that bad for her since we are trying hard to fight yeast now for a months now, the itchy kind dogs get. I changed her diet completely & thought the goat keifer should be good but those 2 words (tapioca & starch ) raise a flag 😮 maybe I can’t give that to her with a yeast problem. I got her with my mom from the humane society she was surrendered by someone had been abused & she was only around 6 mos old. I had trusted my mom that she knew what she was doing & my mom took her for all kinds of vacs. I even trusted the food & it turned out being some very awful stuff. I have the dog with me now & am feeding her the best I possibly can. Have been doing as much research & getting as many good things for my baby as can be. I am in a sad place at the time, I am renting a room & the lady has been complaining about seeing me Beatrix itching. She has made 2 batches of bread since this yeast broke out & I think it affected my little girl badly her eyes even became red & itchy but she tells me the yeast being used is nothing to do with my dog. I don’t believe that. Now she is pressuring me to take her to the vet. @@blissin74 Stay strong, your doing the right thing, nothing the vets can help with here. Fresh foods, the supplements and time will help. Keep carbs out of the diet or as minimal as possible. Also use raw eggs, great dog nutrition (organic best for obvious reasons). No vaxx, no drugs and no synthetics and no bread lol.

Good to hear from you, and Happy New Year 2022. I make Kefir goat milk and sometimes pour it over his dry cluster dog food and I mix it with yogurt when he gets gassy too. When I give him yogurt and goat milk kefir, I do add a little of complete probiotic and prebiotic to it as well because he has been prescribed antibiotics a couple of times during this pandemic and this way I am helping to build his good gut bacteria. @@DanScott1 He hasn’t been diagnosed with an ear infection but the Vet doctor did say he is allergic to a lot of environmental things and he is probably allergic to beef and chicken products. We haven’t done any allergy testing as of yet. Since you asked about yeast, I checked his ears they can use cleaning which I am going to do in a few minutes and I don’t smell anything foul or cheesy on him.
Also he’s been taking seasonal allergy supplements from Dr. Karen Becker products and from Pet Honesty over the spring and summer months.

She's yeasted up, ears too. This will take 3 months but start now with ultra low carbs, under 10%. Do all the below and she will be right in 12 weeks.
Here's some help: Diet
If you feed kibble, the best thing to do first is remove 50% of the kibble from the bowl and replace with raw eggs (best) soft boiled (ok) and preferably organic, canned sardines (in plain water with skin & bone intact: 12 Pack Sardines - amzn.to/3vaXrj6), some part cooked and blended veggies like broccoli, kale, green beans, spinach, brussel sprouts, bok choy etc and some meat proteins such as chicken meat, even better.

1. Dont feed the yeast. Stop all carbs/sugars, Sources of carbs and sugars in pet foods include:
Rice
Millet
Potatoes and sweet potatoes
Wheat and corn
Oats
Peas
This is why a raw diet is best for yeast infection in dogs. It doesn’t have the large amount of carbohydrate that commercial foods contain. So if your dog is eating kibble today, you’ll need to switch him to a raw diet or a cooked diet that doesn’t use grains. And if you feed your dog fruits, limit it to berries: they are lower in sugar content.
Yeast Loves Heavy Metals. Give digestive enzymes: They can help quickly digest and eliminate dead yeast cells. Give humic/fulvic acid: amzn.to/33P2P1i , bentonite clay: amzn.to/3L1rq2R and chlorella: amzn.to/3DYcj8O They can help bind to heavy metals.
2. Digestive enzymes are special proteins that help your dog digest his food. They’re also the enemy of yeast … they can digest yeast’s biofilm. And while yeast can build up immunity to some antifungal meds, they’re always susceptible to enzymes.
3. Feed MCT oil. amzn.to/3tLlCnR Start small 1/4tsp med/large dog to start with or you'll get diarhea. Research shows caprylic acid can directly treat some yeast infections. It’s believed it can destroy Candida by destroying its cell membrane. Ideally, your dog’s caprylic acid would come from MCT oil.
Olive Leaf
Like caprylic acid, olive leaf amzn.to/3uh3GTJ is believe to break down the Candida cell membrane. Its active antifungal substance is oleuropein. This is what gives olive oil its bitter taste. Olive leaf has been shown to prevent and manage yeast in multiple studies .. so it’s a great addition to fight yeast.
Use the powdered form for your dog. The dose is:
Small Dog 1/4 teaspoon daily
Medium Dog 1/2 teaspoon daily
Large Dog 1 teaspoon daily
You can slowly increase the dose (up to 500mg twice daily for large dogs), but go slowly to avoid the Herxheimer reaction.

This is a proven antifungal from the rain forests of South America. Pau d’arco contains naphthoquinones, which can kill fungi (as well as parasites and viruses). Plus it contains lapachol, a substance known to kill yeast. But be careful … lapachol should not be given to pregnant dogs.
Pau d’arco is available in supplement form, but it’s important to find one of a higher quality. The amount of lapachol varies from tree to tree, so it must be standardized. Give pau d’arco as a dried herb. Canine Herbalist Rita Hogan recommends dosing twice daily with food, in these amounts:
100 mg for extra small dogs
200 mg for small dogs
300 mg for medium dogs
400 mg for large dogs
500 mg for extra large dogs

Goldenseal contains a compound called berberine. This is an alkaloid that helps the plant defend itself from fungus and bacteria. It’s a well-known antifungal that has been shown to fight yeast in studies. Goldenseal should not be given in pregnant or hypoglycemic dogs and should not be given long term in large doses. Give goldenseal once or twice daily in these amounts:
Dried powder: use 1 teaspoon per 20 pounds
Tincture: Give 5 - 10 drops per 20 pounds
Those are four proven yeast killers you’ll want to use.
4. If you switch your dog to a raw diet and reduce the heavy metals in his diet and environment, you’ll start to starve the Candida and harmful yeasts. And that’s good! And now you have some supplements to help kill the yeast. Also good.
But dog yeast infections are tough … it’s often hard to limit heavy metals and there will always be some food for the Candida to eat. So you need to create a gut environment that’s not hospitable to yeast. There are a few ways to do this:
Avoid vaccines, drugs, flea&ticks meds, cleaning products, nedications, stress.

As long as it's not pasteurized or has additives. Just plain raw kefir. It does look like milk.
Can I still give them plain Pasteurized kefir from Whole Foods or is no good ? I just bought some for my dogs says grade A pasturized kefir. I don’t think there’s no pasturized in the US around my area.

It's in the cold section, it's in a small plastic bottle probably, it will say Kefir on the label and only get plain kefir, no added anything, especially sugar. Wholefoods have it too.

Hi Dan I feed my Frenchie a raw diet with probiotics.... He has started having red blood in his poop mainly first poo of the morning the first part of the poo always looks okay then the last part can look a bit yellow with red blood...... Give the slippery elm in bewteen meals when empty. Give ¼ tsp of powder for every 10 lbs of body weight. Mix the powder into food or some yogurt.

I normally give my 55 lb American pitbull rescue one tablespoon of organic canned pumpkin (specifically for dogs), and sometimes add a heaping tablespoon of goat's milk yogurt or goat's milk kefir together as a digestive treat at the end of her meals. What are your thoughts on this combination as without the pumpkin her glands will build up?

Checked on those recommended supplements. I'm curious about the green immune Plus. At the bottom of the product description it says don't use if the dog has liver or lung issues. Just had to put down my 11-year-old American pitbull mix rescue Diesel last week with stage 4 lymphoma and massive oversized liver. Since that time I've been a little on edge with learning more about cancer and supporting the liver. I do need to get Blanca in for full blood work just to verify she's okay in that area.

Hi Dan. I want to ask if its ok to give my dog (cooked beef) with Kefir. He was diagnosed with ear infection, yeast and itching (fleas). We give him chicken and rice and sometimes beef. But he is always in ''hungry'' mode, if we feed him a little more then gets constipated (trapped gas). will the kefir help him? Thank you
If he can eat beef, best to give it raw as he gets 30% more nutrition from the food if it's raw.
So with the beef, add raw eggs, canned sardines ( in water) and lots of part cooked and blended veggies. And the Kefir. Actually, give the kefir on an empty stomach.
No rice, carbs are inflammatory to canines. Just a little wolemeal carbs are ok ie 10% of meal. So that's whole brown carbs like saw cut oats.

For ear infection he needs an antibiotic: Silver spray: amzn.to/3gJ16i3 Spray into ear twice daily for 5 days and stop. Keep ears clean with it too.
Keep carbs low, no drugs and NO vaxx. And he'll improve, be patient, takes time with yeast and has to be starved out.

I hope I can find goats milk. Im seeing a lot of powdered goats milk but assume that it doesn’t provide the same level of nutrition. It’s easy to find cows milk kefir but the goats milk kefir is challenging to find.

Yes it's ok as it adds new stains of probiotic to grow the gut biome. Yes you keep using supplements for life but have a detox every now and again, say every 3 months take a week off.

There’s no raw milk in US that’s from my area so I bought goat milk kefir but it’s pasteurized. Is that okay or you wouldn’t do that ?
The trouble with pasteurization is that it kills all live enzymes in the milk. It still has the Kefir goodness though. Goat milk is better. See if you can find plain raw goat milk, maybe at wholefoods or some independant wholefood retailer. It's also very easy to make your own, I do.

Is giving too much Kefir to my dog bad? She has been struggling to eat and I have been able to hide her food in the kefir. I have been giving 1/4 cup twice a day.
Should be just fine, obviously it's more calories, and can be adjusted back when she's eating normally again.

@@DanScott1 my dog definitely was diagnosed with IBD and while we are on prescription dog food and it has helped with alot of issues. He still has battles with bloating and gas.

Yes the kefir helps and probiotics too but it's the basic diet that needs attention.
halve the amount of food in the bowl and replace that half with raw eggs, some meat proteins like chicken, some canned sardines in water and some part cooked and blended veggies.
This will make a big difference for the better and make sure to add those probiotics. Start small and build to 50/50 food mix.

a premium kibble that's the best I know of with only 5% carbs (dogs do not fare well on carbs - little known) and 47% protein with all natural additives.
