This song takes me back over 40 years and to my time with a lovely and wild Lebanese girl. She was in the USA attending college and she had a reckless and intensely passionate spirit forged in the strife of a civil war. A constant dynamo in motion that could only be stilled by this song. I noticed the change in her and asked what it was about this song that caused her to draw back inside of herself if only for as long as the song played. She replied that when she was quite young she had a boyfriend in Beirut. He became a heroin addict and despite her pleading to quit he could not and one day he OD'd. This song took her back to the one she wished was still there. We drifted apart and she went to live in Milan. I would find her again online in the mid 2000's but only for a short time. My friend lived a short but active life and died before age 50 from heart failure. RIP Vivian; with this song you are remembered

Ines Nessie, just know that your brother is with you and every time you hear this song reinforces that. He would want you to smile while you listen. 💜💜💜
Pure magic pure talant... No one coming through in today's music scene that can match this kind of talant and there's many of the older bands out there still going strong
When I hear this song I think of my friend Cara. She passed away 2 years ago. Not a day goes by that I don't think about her. I wish you were still here Cara. I miss you so much 💗 😢 😞
You mean she was VAXXED? No need to answer what the world is starting to AWAKEN to. "Misery loves company". That's going to be the new adopted philosophy this year., and it will be aimed at the purebloods. Btw, SILENCE KILLS!!! RIP, Cara >>>>> you will be AVENGED!!! 😡 🇺🇸
Ich bin Jahrgang 1963 ,und es ist schon einige Jahre her,als ich das Lied das erste mal gehört habe.Aber es ist für mich immer noch eines der besten Lieder,höre es immer gerne
This is perhaps the most beautiful Pink Floyd song ever, featuring one of the greatest guitarists ever. It's a story of loss, and a celebration of a friend. It doesn't get much better. David Gilmour is vastly underrated
@paulmartos7730 I like that you said this is a song about the celebration of a friend. It is amazing to me how Wish You Were Here and Shine On You Crazy DIamond are both such brilliant songs telling essentially the same story about friendship and loss in two completely different ways. I think Wish You Were Here is more about the loss and Shine on You Crazy Diamond is more about the celebration of a friend, but they each have elements of both. I've always considered SOYCD the best song about friendship.
Love this song. We played this exiting on the way out of my brothers funeral. He loved Pink Floyd. I really wish Randy was here, almost 3 years that he has left us in body. Remains in spirit with me all the time
To my wonderful Mother-in -law I wish you were here to put a smile not only on my face but especially Her Husband, daughters , And Grandchildrens faces ! Unfortunately she left us on February 7th 2021 from her struggles with cancer My Heart has a piece missing now and it can't be fixed. My In -Laws treated me as if I was a part of their family and we shared a whole lot of memories that I'll never forget either vacationing down the Jersey Shore or celebrating Holidays or someone's birthday or achievement I can truly tell you this Woman was beloved by all of us the Grandkids were basically raised by her she did everything so my wife and sister-in-law could help with providing for are families! That in itself to me was above and beyond to balance not only her own homes needs but two other homes! Never heard a complaint fro her she did it out of genuine love for her family I don't even like to say my In-laws because they have made me feel like she was my Mom and her husband treated me like a son and a friend my love goes out to her God now has one of the best Angels yet!!! When it's my time to go trust me I'll never forget you Mom -Mom I promise to bring you the Beach Drinks that you enjoyed !! 💖🤗
For my beloved 19 y/o son, passed suddenly and way too early. He loved Pink Floyd & had memorized the lyrics, uncanny ability to carry a tune & memory recall to sing each & every song. There r so many PF songs that tug at my emotions and unseen link to my boy, we will always speak to each other thru song. He passed 2 years ago, each and every moment stings w/o him. ‘Sorrow’ is another eloquent song that hits the target. Thank you Pink Floyd, your ethereal music, lyrics, emotion, everything goes beyond this dimension and into others 💕
The best rendition of this song that I've ever heard. All if these musicians do it justice. A song that will live on forever for so many people for so many reasons.
Listen to this at least every few weeks or so since my dad passed. Been three years and can't stop. So bitter sweet of how much this song makes me think of him 💔 Especially he is the reason I fell in love with Pink Floyd as a teenager 20 plus years ago...gone too soon 😔
This guy is freaking genius, the best guitar player in my opinion my best group obviously and I am 70 years old and I'm Still rocking with this group, Happy Trails everybody
There is something just utterly mesmerising about accoustic live music especially when iy is being played by music legends who adore the music just as we do.
Me best friend died at cancer last Year at the age of 58. This song was shot on its cremation with a Photo collage at the background on a tv screen. It brings back nice memories and moves me still. Rest in peace my dear friend you will always be in my heart
Guest fleerakers I was just wondering similar. I put a post of this song as I'd imagine him singing and it to his overdue daughter.. In his lovely lady's belly. Wishing her here to view begin a brand new life.. Where as it's a gorgeous song for sad reflective times.. When we've lost someone special in our lives.. I insist I hear everyone sing at funeral... Lol. Kim but seriously the now song is up there along the best ever songs.. Iv even a version of wycliffe Jean covering it and does it well... Its simply unique epic guitaring, lyrics are piercing your lost soul. Then it goes to a crescendo and lifts you out your timberlands..... "rave on you crazy diamonds"
Just a beautiful song that takes me back to a younger innocent age of listening and dancing to Pink Floyd. Enjoyed by so many different people all over the world🙏 Sydney Australia❤️
Burt he can't sing for sh*t! Excellent guitarist certainly, but Pink Floyd's vocals have always been karaoke standard. I'd stand up in any courtroom in the land and prove it!
From "Dark Side of the Moon" to "Shine on you crazy Diamond and on and on, this honored group of musicians have changed my life with their naturally genius music! This song has so much deeply felt words, as well as music, I have loved and respected them since my teens!!!! God Bless each of you!!! ❣😇❤
David Gilmour, my family n friends arnt into you but I always, have been since 16 and I'll always love you're music till end of time ,,A true Legend...
"We're just two lost souls living in a fish bowl, year after year". If you've been paying proper attention for the past 7 years, you'll then be able to appreciate how ahead of his time Gilmore was, and still is. Masterpiece 🇺🇸
One of the best nights of my life and a dream come true was seeing this great man at the Royal Albert hall a few years back thanks to my wife getting tickets. Will never forget that night. Pink Floyd has been the only constant in my life and their music has got me through so much. Shine on....
It's my dream to be able to play and sing this song someday...still my alltime fav since teen yrs. Nothing compares to Pink Floyd songs in this world... thanks for making such music🙏🎵
Raising my hand too! I almost got the first solo. But no matter many youtube videos I watch, no matter how many different slides, vibratos, and bends I try, I cannot play that first solo like Gilmour. I especially love the one in this video. So clean, smooth, soothing.
After my brother passing too soon. Iisten to this every night. Miss him so so much. He left me too soon. But this is the music we grew up hearing. Miss you my brother xx
Hey Kylie can I ask how your brother died? I’m struggling with sever depression and I don’t wanna leave my brothers but Im looking into the dark. I’m,sorry to hear you lost your brother ... :(
@@thomashoekzema6601 Unfortunately he was shot. I often look into that dark side. Because I miss him that much. But it's not the answer he would want. I try to tell myself his with me wherever I am. Don't let depression rule the heartache your brothers would feel. You rule your depression. Fight it. For yourself and your brothers. 💜
Music is the world language, songs like this and concerts have you stood next to people you'd never normally mix with, just awesome, I don't get anyone who doesn't like music.
@@JohnSmith-yi9cp well I couldn't play it as I'm not a musician, if it's simple then it's a very wonderful simple, for me three or four powerchords on the intro of a song can have me fist pumping and airguitaring round my front room, simple can be great.
This version is so natural and pure it turns my tears to Holy water, Thank you David for bringing back memories of those I've lost in the best possible way.
margaret hogan god bless you, losing a child must be the worst thing that can happen to a parent, I’m blessed with 3 children and feel your pain for your loss, god bless you and your son Rip, shine on your crazy diamonds.
When the first few notes come out, David Gilmour's body language looks like he's recalling some past moment of emotional pain. The thing is...in that moment, I remember my own moments of that. I am profoundly moved that it was captured in this composition so long ago, and fortunate to have seen this performance.
It’s difficult to listen to this for me now. I lost my little brother to cancer in January. He was only 49 years old. I cry when I hear it, but I can’t stop. There’s so much beauty there. 🎸🎼🎤
My brother died 2 years ago I always remember sitting with him early 90s when he would play this. He died a young age through drugs an drink we played this at his funeral sleep in perfect peace lad. Hope your free from pain ♥️.
Appreciate that Thanks very much. Life’s hard this song is epic it holds some great memories of my bro. Hope he’s in perfect peace x. Thanks again. Life gose on we must remember that. ♥️
Pink Floyd was a Mastery of social commentary without sounding preachy. They created a special place where you could reflect upon the world. I would always feel like things made sense when I listened to their songs. I always try to refrain from talking about who is the best guitar player. David Gilmour sure can draw a lot of emotion out of a guitar!
I first heard this song when I was about 15 yrs old, and it left me speechless. It is like you said: These songs gave you a lot to think, but no straightforward explanations. (Especially with Wish you were here, the later albums were less poetic - in my opinion, at least. And the record sleeve hat its part in that, too.) And this version is superior to the original, I think.
David Gilmour certainly qualifies as one of the best, undeniably. I totally agree with not assigning THE best to any artist because it's totally subjective and pointless... time wasted on that kind of debate would be better spent listening to the music.
Yo, be well and give yourself as much grace as you can. I can't and don't ever want to understand that level of pain, but I want you to be well. Many psychic hugs.

Dear God why isn't there music like this anymore
Empty hearts with zero passion and more reliance on machines rather than emotions and brains - that's the reason you're looking for.
In That time world was having a big changes, it was round and interesting, now seems that all is flat and consequently most of the feelings too.
There is, but you gotta look for it.
There is. You just close your eyes and don't wanna see it, dreaming of the "good old days" and always being stuck in the past. Music was always great and will always be.

David I am a 75 year old man that been listening to you for 55 years.i expect that you are growing weary of playing comfortably numb but please never stop playing it for the people who love you.
This is one of those timeless songs that can bring a tear to your eye or give you goosebumps, or just make you appreciate those you have or those you may have lost. God bless you if remembering a lost one.
Heavenly
A close, sweet friend killed himself a few years ago. I think of his beautiful spirit every time I hear it. Please, if you are in that same dark hole, seek help.
Sid and David we’re close friends long before there was a Pink Floyd. Probably the greatest song ever written.
Orgasmi di 😢😢
Haven’t you listened to comfortably numb 😋
@@modestadventurers the wall was not their best album.
@@eddieblz didn’t say it was.
I remember listening to this song with my little brother who I lost on a Christmas morning 7 years ago. The song is still here, as well as my pain, but damn… how I wish he was here
❤️
Keep him in you heart forever my friend 🙏🏼❤
Ines Nessie, just know that your brother is with you and every time you hear this song reinforces that. He would want you to smile while you listen. 💜💜💜
Sorry for your loss.
🇺🇸
This song makes me think of my good friend who passed away 2 years ago. Wish you were here, Joe. I love you and miss you xxx
Ich bin Jahrgang 1963 ,und es ist schon einige Jahre her,als ich das Lied das erste mal gehört habe.Aber es ist für mich immer noch eines der besten Lieder,höre es immer gerne
JA WOHL 👍
This is perhaps the most beautiful Pink Floyd song ever, featuring one of the greatest guitarists ever. It's a story of loss, and a celebration of a friend.
It doesn't get much better. David Gilmour is vastly underrated
Underrated by who?
One of the most popular bands in the world AKA PINK ....Gilmore is a musical TITAN .......but imo not underrated at all 😃
Да!ТАК сыграть на акустической гитаре!
He is by no means underrated. He is regarded as one of the very best, with good reason.
Pure, raw, unadulterated talent. A Passion for his craft mixed with a touch of genius. A song I often put on repeat.
Love this song. We played this exiting on the way out of my brothers funeral. He loved Pink Floyd. I really wish Randy was here, almost 3 years that he has left us in body. Remains in spirit with me all the time
✌💓
I'll never get enough of these guys, AWESOME!
I think no matter how it is the circumstances we always have music 🎶 to fulfill our souls...
Keeps me sane friend. Relatively...
We may be lost souls swimming in a fish bowl but bloody hell as long as we have spectacular talent like this man I will swim for ever
Ricky Gibson well said
Amen.
Love and happiness to you🌸💌
So sorry for your loss, music is my therapy
Love and light to you 🧡
Jason Bever crank it up young brother
This guy is freaking genius, the best guitar player in my opinion my best group obviously and I am 70 years old and I'm Still rocking with this group, Happy Trails everybody

Beautiful upright bass and cello. Mr. Gilmore is one of the purest, cleanest guitarists, in my opinion, whether acoustic or electric. Thank you!
There is something just utterly mesmerising about accoustic live music especially when iy is being played by music legends who adore the music just as we do.
Great live version. One of the best songs ever made.
I'm still getting there love nhs
Just a beautiful song that takes me back to a younger innocent age of listening and dancing to Pink Floyd.
Enjoyed by so many different people all over the world🙏
Sydney Australia❤️
David Gilmour is a genius. The way he did vocals with the solo guitar part is amazing.
Burt he can't sing for sh*t! Excellent guitarist certainly, but Pink Floyd's vocals have always been karaoke standard. I'd stand up in any courtroom in the land and prove it!
@@davidwatson9755 I really appreciate you can do that my friend 😇
Love this song played at my grandma's funeral and shine on you crazy diamond.
The quality of Gilmore's improvisation in the solos is amazing.
Such a timeless song! Love it!
Damn. This song has blown me away for forty years now.
Gets me everytime.
Lucky us.
Already in my will they will play this song at my funeral all time favorite
From "Dark Side of the Moon" to "Shine on you crazy Diamond and on and on, this honored group of musicians have changed my life with their naturally genius music! This song has so much deeply felt words, as well as music, I have loved and respected them since my teens!!!! God Bless each of you!!! ❣😇❤
Hi Kathy💐💐
David has still got it! He still sounds great and he still makes a guitar sing like no one else on earth!
David Gilmour, my family n friends arnt into you but I always, have been since 16 and I'll always love you're music till end of time ,,A true Legend...
Yes and this performance was 16 years ago...
"We're just two lost souls living in a fish bowl, year after year".
If you've been paying proper attention for the past 7 years, you'll then be able to appreciate how ahead of his time Gilmore was, and still is.
Masterpiece
🇺🇸
Not really ahead of his time. This always applies, like the phrase from “Won’t get fooled again “, “Meet the new boss. Same as the old boss.”
Mine too 💙
Raising my hand too! I almost got the first solo. But no matter many youtube videos I watch, no matter how many different slides, vibratos, and bends I try, I cannot play that first solo like Gilmour. I especially love the one in this video. So clean, smooth, soothing.
David Gilmour - one of the legendary complete musicians that we have ever had. Absolutely brilliant...
Это один из немногих непревзойденных певцов мыслителей семидесятых годов браво гилмору
God bless David Glimour, many guitarists play faster than him, but almost no one with more emotion😊
After my brother passing too soon. Iisten to this every night. Miss him so so much. He left me too soon. But this is the music we grew up hearing. Miss you my brother xx
Hang in there buddy ! I hope everything's will be a bit alright soon.
May peace and love find you 🙏
Hang in there 🙏
Hey Kylie can I ask how your brother died? I’m struggling with sever depression and I don’t wanna leave my brothers but Im looking into the dark. I’m,sorry to hear you lost your brother ... :(
@@thomashoekzema6601
Unfortunately he was shot. I often look into that dark side. Because I miss him that much. But it's not the answer he would want. I try to tell myself his with me wherever I am. Don't let depression rule the heartache your brothers would feel. You rule your depression. Fight it. For yourself and your brothers. 💜
Nobody died, no funeral, no bad memories. Just like the song.
You are the lucky one ✌️
This song getting better with time.
Com certeza
I remember the first time I heard this, It was like being touched by God.
Music is the world language, songs like this and concerts have you stood next to people you'd never normally mix with, just awesome, I don't get anyone who doesn't like music.
Me too!!
This is very simplic and easy to play tho. Im not saying i dont like it but theres better music around. I like the vibe tho
Lol. My grandfather said the words you did. I totally agree with you.
The Classics will always be so. And so we listen.
@@JohnSmith-yi9cp well I couldn't play it as I'm not a musician, if it's simple then it's a very wonderful simple, for me three or four powerchords on the intro of a song can have me fist pumping and airguitaring round my front room, simple can be great.
Lucky enough to have grown up with this music, even luckier to see and hear it thrive today!
Im amazed how good David can sing after all these years.I think he may be BETTER now than he's ever been!! Wow! He's one amazing old man!
rock dog Me too, his voice is still incredible❣️
Whish you here my beautiful sister Julie. My life has never been right without you. Please watch over me and my son I need you. Tears

He’s such a fantastic and accomplished guitarist and so much underrated when compared to his contemporaries. Love his gentle playing. 👍👍
He’s usually top 5, always top 10. Underrated? Seems almost universally acknowledged/ appreciated.
One of the best musicians artists that as ever graced us with is gift of chilling everybody out by the first cords of a song
Steve Winter if only Roger Waters could join him again.
It’s difficult to listen to this for me now. I lost my little brother to cancer in January. He was only 49 years old. I cry when I hear it, but I can’t stop. There’s so much beauty there. 🎸🎼🎤
Turd, that's cruel. You have my sympathies
Graham B Thank you so much. 🧡
I'm sorry to hear! I lost my father to ALS in September. He became 52
Kristian Larsen I’m so sorry to hear that. 52 is far too young to go. ☹️ It’s so unfair.
I love you! He is with you forever

My brother died 2 years ago I always remember sitting with him early 90s when he would play this. He died a young age through drugs an drink we played this at his funeral sleep in perfect peace lad. Hope your free from pain ♥️.

Я старый поклонник Битлз...
Но слушая Пинк Флойд, мурашки по телу!!! Это чудо какие то!!!❤
Awesome comment, Brian. So well put.
I lost my mather .but miss it her everyday
I first heard this song when I was about 15 yrs old, and it left me speechless. It is like you said: These songs gave you a lot to think, but no straightforward explanations. (Especially with Wish you were here, the later albums were less poetic - in my opinion, at least. And the record sleeve hat its part in that, too.) And this version is superior to the original, I think.
David Gilmour certainly qualifies as one of the best, undeniably. I totally agree with not assigning THE best to any artist because it's totally subjective and pointless... time wasted on that kind of debate would be better spent listening to the music.
My 29 year old son died in 2016. This song reminds me of him every time I hear it. I wish you were here James, my beautiful boy 🥺
Yo, be well and give yourself as much grace as you can. I can't and don't ever want to understand that level of pain, but I want you to be well. Many psychic hugs.
🙏🏼💔 I'm so sorry.
God bless David Gilmour, there will never be another band like pink floyd
Was fortunate enough to see Pink Floyd in Foxboro, Massachusetts, Sullivan stadium. May 1988...
Sid Barrett was the genius of Pink Floyd. Mental health issues and fame put him down and sadly turned into a recluse. RIP Sid.
You Are a legend Dave , you bring so much enjoyment and pleasure to the ears of the people...long time Floyd fan , shine on YOU , crazy diamond 💎
