MGS3: Interesting Codec/Radio calls

- A collection of interesting radio calls that are often tricky to get. Calls include explanations of code names, character and location details, some of the more interesting item/animal/camo explanations, and additional mission background.

If there's something we learned here, is that Snake never watched a movie.
Carlos Ribeiro “the fly” is a 80-90s movie right? But in MGS 3 it’s a timeline even before that.. How?
@@alrizkimarino The 1986's The Fly is a remake of the classic.
@@alrizkimarino It's a remake of the 1958 film.
@@alrizkimarino You mean the remake by David Cronenberg. The original "The Fly" was relased 1958 and therefore fits the setting of this game :)
Alrizki Marino T I M E P A R A D O X
What I love about MGS is how it always mixes its story in with real history and politics.
my favorite one is the Boss's role in the SAS
ZUZAINFINITY And what's even cooler is that everything that could seem like science fiction product or even unreal has its own plausible scientific explanation and raison d'être.
Gives it a “real” relatable aspect.
I think the fantasy elements work in a surreal way because of how well they interlaced real historical events with a fictional story about vampires and lightning users lmao
Dr. Clark a.k.a. Paramedic was such a quirky and fun character to "talk" to that we forget how she practiced the most unethical bio engineering method/s that resulted to the clone snakes and gray fox becoming a cyborg ninja.
Sweet Paramedic, who loves movies, became a monster who experimented on cyborgs. That’s kind of heartbreaking. In fact, a lot of what happened to this cast was heartbreaking.

Sigint: Who would create such a stupid thing like a walking tank?
Also Sigint: *BECOMES CHIEF OF DARPA AND FUNDS REX*
Did he really?
@@cumcer6140 Exactly, He's the DARPA CHIEF in MGS1. Ocelot tortured him to death before Solid Snake found his body.
People can change in 30 years.
I still think that Kojima made Major Zero's code name 'Major Tom' because Kojima is a big fan of David Bowie.
lol yeah pretty much
Sgt Epic Face Most definitely.
Major tom. Diamond Dogs signs of him being a BIG fan.
The awesome part is. MGS5 came out a month before he died.
well...yeah
one of the first lines in the first radio call with him is
Can you hear me Major Tom?
Also, The Man Who Sold The World...
my thoughts exactly
when Snake started talking about the fork I couldnt stop imagining him trying to attack the Shagohod with it
Maybe some complex thing where snake throws it into the shagohod's ammo feeding hatch and the team then starts to criticize Snake for doing something stupid and even Volgin starts to laugh until the fork gets jammed between some bullets and Volgin stats how his guns arent responding and he tries to dislodge it to only have the fork go in deeper and piercing a major component causing a chain reaction. The fork gets flung into the air and lands by snake who picks it up. The Shagohod blows up in a spectacular manner and Volgin along with it. The team now dumbfounded by it.
@@articusramos808 that was amazing
@@articusramos808 secret theater worthy
@@articusramos808 in other words, the weapon to surpass Metal Gear is... a fork?
If anyone is wondering Tunnel Tom didn't work
So you could say hes worthless almost like a ze... ah cant be ill just leave it to obvious
He addresses that if you got that codec call about the movie and then ask para-medic about the tunnel and THEN call Zero at the start of Operation: Snake Eater he says that he jinxed the whole thing and says he even went so far as to pull strings and get a film reel of the movie (something not easy to do back then as there as there was no way to watch movies at home back then) and rewatched The Great Escape to be sure. And then basically basically says fuck it to being clever and calls himself Zero.
Well they all die in the end except for the dude that always gets sent to the hole
Thank you
Harry
Someone has to draw BASIC SNAKE(he'll be holding a pumpkin spice latte and holding avocado covered snakes)
A real man respects his enemies, not hates them beyond belief.
Snake was guiding Ocelot on what gun to use because he's hoping that he can make Snake and Ocelot's superiors as proud as he's wanted to make them of him, and he needed a hand
Jac Sanchez / Slash Command Films I feel like it’s more that Big Boss wanted to teach a young kid who was still new to the battlefield, yet still had even more talent than him.
That...and it's the cooler big brother teaching his dorky little bro how to be cool.
No, John aided Adamska because Hideo Kojima wanted him to in order to avoid a Time Paradox otherwise, who's gonna be the main antagonist of the series!
This really humanized the characters and the game, making them relatable. An element mgs5 lacked.
Listen to all the tapes and voilá, they are all humanized
We at least got to hear about burgers
Abdega And soldiers shitting their guts out.
MGS5 just had really good gameplay. Thats about it lop. The story and other aspects was meh.
Grammer Gestapo MGS5 wasn't completely divorced of humanizing its characters. It just didn't do as good of a job as it should have. Especially with V.Snake

"Do as I say, not as I do." YUP, she's his mom.
*when you mark a 10 minute mark
in fact she is Ocelot mom's
She also gave Snake presents under the guise of Santa.
why is this so upvoted though
It's me Darkar
But she was more mother to snake then to ocelot.
"I don't have any brothers." "Really? I could've sworn you had several."
Les Enfant Terrible foreshadowing much?
Les enfants terrible are his sons not brothers
@@YashForLife Yes and no, cause while, yes, they are considered his sons, they are actually clones of him, himself so it's also not uncommon to say they're brothers in some form...
Tofer The Akita he saids that in mgs4 “or should i call your brother?”.
@@tofer17 Clones of someone are rarely considered his/her brothers/sisters, sometimes yes, but mostly they are called the children of that person. It mostly depends on whether they are multiple and how old are they. With Big Boss it's always talking about his sons, not brothers (never heard of them being his brothers), they are brothers to each other - Solid, Liquid, Solidus (Venom Snake was mistaken for Big Boss in the latest game, he alone might be called his brother, I guess), but that didn't happen during the events of Snake Eater yet, so it was true, that he had none at that time.
this Snake is Big Boss, all the Snake brothers were lab created using Big Bosses DNA
I love fact that Snake just takes the time to chat with his support squad, despite all thats happening around him. Alone and hunted, stacked with nigh impossible odds for any one normal human to overcome, yet has the time to ask his squad why their names are what they are.
I love how much detail they put into this game. One could only imagine how much time they put into including real background info into this fictional game. Absolutely amazing. History Channel/10.
Going from "Otaku Convention" (Otacon) to "Signal Intelligence" (Sigint). Small world?
VERY small world.
Otacon does that because he's a dork who think that's a cool codename. Sigint at least made sense and was used.
@@SMAXZO And SIGINT became the DARPA Chief, one of the corrupted members of the Patriots and responsible for the creation of the Patriots AI.
1:40 I got it!
IT'S PSYCHO MANTIS.
Orazio Coclite I think they were trying to tease the player into thinking that and then totally screwed with the player
That's what I was thinking
Orazio Coclite psycho mantis used his fourth wall breaking psychic powers to change para-medic’s thoughts and prevent another Time Paradox
What's even funnier is that The Fly is a 1986 movie and this game was based in the cold war. lol
uhh, that fly movie you're referring is a remake of the 1958 movie of the same name so it's very possible they saw the movie at the time
"Someone in the US wrote a paper about a walking tank. Emerson? Heinrich? Something like that......",Emerich...Huey...So, Hideo was planning the plot WAAAAAY back then. Impressive!
David Kung even made a reference to Python before his debut in MGSPO
where?
33:20
David Kung Didnt Huey appear in MG1, this was made years after that. So Its not really dazzling at all.
He's prepared for anything, I'll give him that. =P
I've played and replayed this game countless times over the years and there's *STILL* codec calls and little snippets of things that I've missed. God damn I love you Kojima, but if I was a game completionist, I would've thrown myself headfirst into a claymore...
33:24 Emmerson Heinrich?? A reference to Huey Emerich. Looks like Kojima had everything planed from the very beginning. What a legend!
He played us like a damn fiddle from the start
Wasnt Huey guy mentioned in mgs1?
@@cumcer6140 yeah he was mentioned in mgs1 but I don't remember for what... Maybe it was a failure or something when Otacon was introducing himself
30:00 thumbnail codec
Zero forgot to mention that The Great Escape didn't end with all the prisoners making it out of Germany alive
He also hid the fact that Tom was the tunnel discovered by the Nazis.
This is friggin real life history lessons right here. So awesome.
Well, the SAS was founded by David Sterling. Nobody else was involved.
Snake: the fork sigint: a weapon to surpass metal gear
Seriously, a cardboard tank surpasses metal gear. I want to shake the hand of the guy who came up with it!
It's so hard to imagine Zero being the central antagonist considering his "gentleman" qualities.
He really isn't. He was antagonistic during Peace Walker, but that's it. After that... it was Skull Face, then the Patriots.
He wasnt fully antagonistic, rather an anti-hero. And even in times where he is an actual antagonist, he is more of a "the road to hell is paved with good intentions" rather than fully malicious
how could these guys turn out to be the master mind villians of the entire series? it doesnt make sense
"Out of respect for Cumming."
*Laughs*
... God dammit.
Fiend Matador Slayer of a Thousand Noobs
Dirty mind.
Interesting the tunnel that major Tom was named after was actually used mainly for storing supplies. Harry was the one they used to escape.
"First time I heard this." You said it Snake, and it's only been 13 years since the release.
The Boss' advice on how to deal with leeches, and how you do so in game, is actually the worst thing you can do to deal with a leech. Burning them will cause them to vomit into the wound, meaning it's bound to get infected. Prying them off is possible, but difficult, especially without leaving teeth in there. Best thing to do is leave it alone, it'll drink it's fill, only about a tablespoon worth, close the wound and drop off.
and what if there were 20 on your back?
Xifihas Or press a hot/cold pack to it. You can also try and encourage it to let go by squeezing it a bit.
I'm sure there is a way to discard the leeches without harming them,I swear I've seen it somewhere
Why did you explain that to him? GODDAMIT
Even if you disinfect the wound immediately afterwards?
26:20 Important part of polish history. Except the Volgin's part of course.
I dunno volgins part sounds very possible
I read about The Katyn Forest Massacre on Wikipedia here's the link en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Katyn_massacre
>The Joy
>because of the joy she feels in battle i guess
>Actually suffers the most
She lost her joy when she had to kill the Sorrow.
Notably, it seems the Sorrow has been nothing but joyful since his death.
I love all MGs, but Snake Eater always felt the most complete in the overall experience to me. I replayed it so many times, it was such a unique universe from any point of view, artistically and from the gameplay aspect as well. Insane game.
Signit: I mean, anybody who'd seriously consider making a thing like that has got to be a wacko.
And yet, years later, he has Metal Gear REX developed.
He already has proof that Metal Gear works, thanks to the Metal Gear D From Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake. REX is clearly an evolution to Metal Gear, Liquid probably had something to do with that.
He's right in his relative time context, besides, Metal Gears have all been robots rather than tanks with legs.
SPOILERS
With help from Sigint himself no less.
Not so dumb he won't support it tho
And he would die because of it.
4:05
Tfw Paramedic was so ready with that movie list that the codec changed languages.
I always thought Major Tom's name was based off the song Space Oddity by David Bowie
~This is Major Tom to Ground Control~
Didnt exist then either
I did at first, but it's revealed after the virtuos or however it's spelt mission
It is.
The reason in universe is from the great escape because the song hadn’t been written yet,
I thought the Furry made that reffrence when you beat him but i can't remember.
@@Texasmilitarydepartmentvid9654 Probably. There are a ton of Bowie references in this series, particularly in 3 and 5.
the boss is ocelots mother. she was the war hero EVA mentioned.
also, Granin created the Metal gear. he sent his plans to huey emmerich!
anyone who doesn't know everything this game series is the most in depth ever xD
I learn something new everyday xD
kyle Ken and The Sorrow is Ocelot's dad
yep!
and snakes private army is based on a french company called doctors without borders.
kyle Ken I know the boss is the mother of ocelot but I forgot when did we get that part or stamen that says that. I know we connected the dots but still I don't remember where it confirmed this...
TheMaximus874
I…can't remember.
I've seen it stated so often where the dots are connected, but I can't remember if and when it is explicitly said
+TheMaximus874
+Abedega
28:41
This codec conversation with EVA is the confirmation.
31:36 MY MAN
hungry for apples?
Yes!
Atlas Animations Tsuchinoko are like, super rare. They’re mythical creatures that look like snakes, but move like worms. Just one would probably be worth a pretty coin in Japan.
If Snake eats it, it refills a lot of stamina.
lazyjosh47 You go, big guy!
I actually waste 45 minutes of my life watching this.. And I'm not regretting it
Izanagi Okami Time enjoyed is not time wasted
what if i love wasting time
Me too
Time well spent
10:01 Correction: Never do this as a leech might regurgitate into your bite increasing risk of infection and parasites. Instead if you have something thin like a credit card, gently slide it under the leech's mouth and slowly pry it off. However the best thing to do is to let it finish feeding as it really won't harm you and even with the credit card trick, a tooth might still break off.
And what if it's in your Genitilia ? i've seen it in the movie and i don't think i won't let it finish.
@@ardibetrayal3493 God i dont even want to know what movie has dick sucking leeches..
I swear Para Medic has the sexiest- most attractive and charming voice and way of speech. Her short quick answers and her simplicity, honesty, directness and teasing.. man

Ransom Seraph
Aaaaaaaaand she begin a giant psychopath biologist that doesn't care for ethics and creates les enfants terriblé

"Nevermind what *I* did!"
4:05 hello french subtitle
I've no idea what's up with that… I reckon that glitch doesn't happen in non-European versions of the game
I play the 3ds version in French. During the codec call about Godzilla the subtitles stop changing halfway through but the conversation goes on.
Edgar Alejo. Bruh 😅
ah les français ... euh quoi ?
I was halfway through the video and saw that.. I don't speak baguette yo
Thank you for this. Today, MGS3 is even more of a masterpiece in my mind than it was yesterday.
Unfortunately, Snake mistook the tsuchinoko for another snake he caught and ate it.
Obsidiron Pumicia Snake? Snake?!? SNAAAAKE!
What's so special about that thing anyway? Is it a reference to another game?
@@smithwesson1896 It's essentially Japan's version of the jackalope; a mythical animal very few people (allegedly) see.
Beating the game with it in your inventory alive nets the infinite ammo face camo and the title Tsuchinoko.
8:53 Big Boss is Quiet confirmed
Had to rewind to it, fuck you. Made me laugh way more than it should have
i still dont get it
@@solidsnake7915 Para-medic says "Quiet, you!"
I've played this game multiple times and there's still codec calls I've never heard, I love how much personality is packed into every member of FOX, MGS3 had the best codec calls.
You know what I'd like to see? A game set in world war 2 where you play as the Boss. THAT would be awesome.
I wanted to see a WW2 Metal Gear game myself our a Vietnam War Era .
I wonder how a WW2 game would evolve around The Cobras . I would want to play as a young version of the end in Stalingrad during a German invasion our something.
So Naked Snake is basically called Basic Snake, lmfao!
Basic Grass Slitherer
Makes sense, everything has to start somewhere.
So major tom is basically a "Major Shit"... very clever kojima I'll give you that.
bodhii g my first thought was the Dave and Hal reference in the alternate ending of MGS
The 22nd is now the 22nd Artists' Rifles, a reserve psychological operations/infantry unit, whose barracks are in London!
3:00 funnily enough, the tunnel "Tom" was the one that was discovered.
damn i played the game over 20 times and I haven't head half of these
I have played it a million times sence it came out in 2005 and I haven't heard some of these some movie references have to unlocked by saveing your data so you would have to save like 75 times just to hear them all.
22:30 How sigint even knows about metal gear rising, just how.
Para-medics voice is really... erotic?
Takeo M YES, SOMEONE FINALLY FUCKIN' SAID IT! But I think it leans a bit more towards the "cute" side of the spectrum :3
She makes my snake solid
I wouldn't say erotic, I would say brisk, or smooth.
I honestly wouldn't get hard to that voice but hey, to each his own.
( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Her voice is more sexy than Eva's, but Eva is hotter than para medic. Interesting that together they made snake's children. Imagine a FOX sneaking mission to steal snakes dna though.
I've played this game at least a dozen times and haven't heard a lot of these. Nice collection.
I used to love these conversations about relating to real life history...it was still very educational for me
Basic Snake
The paramedic calls never cease to amaze me.
I wish i had this much time to talk at work lol
Ocelot was the son of the sorrow so when ocelot with his fathers gift took liquids arm. The fight with ocelot and snake in 4 was such a nostalgia attack.
by the way, at 36:48, this is supposed to be a secret bit of lore that most players wouldn't Have gotten on their first play-through, if at all.
This was a bit of lore (Totally unrelated to the story) that explained that EVA was (Most likely) a person who committed bestiality with her pet dog.
This is reinforced both by her saying she was so happy when she housebroke him.
And how she still dreams about him.
Not suspicious of course, she may just love her dog.
But read on.
If you put her to sleep when you get her as a direct ally in the woods near the end of the game, one of her few lines she says in her sleep, with a bit of pleasure being heard on her voice is
"Oh Fido, that feels so good..."
Fido is a general term used for Dog.
In what situation would a person be speaking like that to their dog.
Not many good ones I would assume.
If anyone can change my mind, please do.
I can't play this game the same anymore. D:
The REAL lore master over here
Seriously though, why the fuck would Kojima make EVA fuck her dog
I think on the wiki they go through this I'm pretty sure you are wrong
It may just be me, but I get the feeling Para-Medic wants to make Naked Snake's, uhmmm 'snake', solid.
She did.... with EVA.
Have fun with your imagination 😎
God this era of mgs should’ve changed gaming but games today can barely get close to this
I missed some of these radio scenes during the PS2 days. It wasn't until recently that I found out that Snake was fooled by the Tatyana disguise.
I enjoyed this so much, thanks
ARSONISTT you're welcome :)
Just had a weird moment, i just lit a cigarette and paramedic said are you smoking. KOJIMA DID IT AGAIN WITH HIS TROLLING!
22:41 "So they won't need guys like me anymore."
"That's not gonna happen!"
2018: Sam Fisher in Ghost Recon Wildlands ;_;
Ivan = John
John = Jack
Raidenovitch = Raiden
Jack + Raiden=...
Oh my god. Mind BLOWN.
I mean it’s kind of obvious
42:10 imagine if it went to save and para medic was just like "oh you can save" like everythings fine
Ocelot is the son of the Sorrow and the Boss. Huh.
*Lets name him... Little Boss*
10:13 THE BOSS POSTED CRINGE!!!
Paramedic is adorable sometimes
Sometimes.... how about all the time! At least during this game before she became a psychopath
This is some real gold mine here
I find it cool how the Surgeon General smoking warning creation date is historically accurate to the game’s setting
Yup. Kojima did his homework.
So many meta references in Para-medics calls. I love this game so much
So THAT's what he was talking about with Ocelot's techniques. I'm surprised I hadn't realized it sooner
I don't know, but the final mgs game I feel, should be one where you talk about how the boss and naked snake met, at the events of Bikini atoll prior to metal gear solid 3
"70% of my body is made of movies".
I love MGS 3
Great vid!
29:40 Snake misunderstands things, pt. infinity
These are actually educational.
These are 10x funnier when you realize you can't skip them
Did you try "circle" or "square", I know, that you can skip them for sure. If you mean it the way, that upon pressing a button it stops and you can with another presses rewind it.
If you mean it the way, that you can't avoid them at all, then yes, most of those can't be avoided, but you can still skip them to get rid of them quicker.
6:34 Bad news, the German Sturmtruppen in WW1 was the model for special forces all over the world.
Really major tom is not a David bowie reference
Of course it is, but only to us, not in-game.
In-universe it isn't. Outside, it is but as a writer I can say that a good writer will cover up their infulences with in-universe explanations.
The first line Snake from Snake "can you hear me Major Tom?" Tells us the reference, the codec call gives us a reason why he chose that name and because of the name gives a reason why the "Virtuous Mission" failed and why he later picks Zero.
Kojima has damn good moments of brilliance.
It might be but will never know a David Bowie Song is on a Caset Tape in MGS5 and you can get A David Bowie jacket by purchasing a DLC.
0:47 Should've listened to Major at the end with Eva
The boss and big boss would make great green lanterns because of their willpower
1:18
Am I the only one who thought she was gonna say Psycho Mantis, even though that would be both a 4th wall break, canonically impossible, and waaaay too meta?
Just me?
Alright I'll just go fuck myself.
I learnt much more from video games like MGS than I did at school. I guess our governments want our education to the level they want us to be.
the call about the mask is the best
The one about the Shit Tank fireing Turd Missiles still makes me luagh to this day .
The Boss is basically a mother to Snake. Don't do that, do this.
That awkward moment when a trained agent and soldier calls a "magazine" a "clip".
Paramedic is basicly Kojima telling us about all the shitty movies he watches.
THE BOSS probably able to tap in all conversations
How did the sweet paramedic turned into the one that oneday will create the 3 sons of big boss
Snake's lack of knowledge about movies is wholesome to me
Love this game.
