  • Join our weekly Combat Check-In Newsletter (www.combatstory.com/newsletter) to get a short email from Ryan for people who love and support our veterans, service members, and their families. It has info on a significant event in military and/or intel history, a funny military joke, an update on a current event I'm following, something I'm doing that week in my life, a book I'm reading, a look at an upcoming interview, a reflection on a past episode and more!
    Today we have a Combat Story first with our first Astronaut who spent over 377 days in space and completed 10 spacewalks (where he’s actually out in space in nothing but his suit): Chris Cassidy. Before he joined NASA, Chris was a Navy SEAL and was one of the very first sent into Afghanistan in 2001 after 9/11.
    [Get exclusive content and help grow the Combat Story community at www.patreon.com/combatstory]
    There’s very little Chris has not accomplished. He attended the US Naval Academy, received a Master of Science in Ocean Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and has two Honorary PhD's.
    As a SEAL, Chris earned a Bronze Star with Valor and a Presidential Unit Citation for combat in Afghanistan. He was NASA’s 14th Chief Astronaut, which is the head of NASA’s Astronaut Corps and is the principal advisor to the NASA Administrator on astronaut training and operations.
    Chris is incredibly humble given his accomplishments and it’s no surprise he is now President and CEO of the National Medal of Honor Museum Foundation, where he’s leading efforts to build out an iconic Museum for MOH recipients, a Leadership Institute, and a Monument on the National Mall.
    I hope you enjoy this view from Space from such a down to Earth man as much as I did. Special thanks to previous guests Darrell Utt and Mike Hayes who helped us connect with Chris.

    You should put together montage video of the best combat stories told by all guests. It’d be pretty cool to have the best of the best combat stories. Because some are awesome and in depth and others the can’t dive into it or won’t because of their current job and keeping a clean profile. The down & dirty stories of bravery or badassery are why I personally watch. Got so much respect for what they did/do!

    So many interesting , fascinating and challenging experiences Captain Chris Cassidy had as Navy Seal, as NASA astronaut and now President and CEO of NMOHM. Amazing! Congratulations 👏! Thanks, Combat Story.

    It's amazing to see just what our SO communities can do when they get out of the service. Amazing things and Chris is proof. I would also LOVE to see Jonny Kim. I know he's busy as heck but hey, it's worth a try.

    I love it!.. so amped he might not recall the breathing exercise 🤣🤣🤣😂 After that initial laugh and hearing the rest, I must comment further. The type of person that can be absolutely candid and demonstrate knowledge of priority between mission success and death, is the sort of leader I could only dream of having. Thank you Sir for applying your morals and judgment in everything. Always engaged in a good purpose is an admirable example we should all follow.

    One of the things I like about this podcast is the fact that it avoids politics almost entirely. Certain other extremely popular podcasts run by certain high profile former military individuals claim to do this while clearly inviting people as guests who are running for office and being expressly critical of political issues which are non-military related.

    Maybe I can get a answer better than the answer I got from a astronaut at Kennedy Space Center.
    A jet intakes air and fuel (heat) to create expanded exhaust that pushes off of the atmosphere propelling itself foward. How does a vessel move in space? I understand the
    air jets/burst but fail to understand how to create rotation/start/stop if there is nothing (vacuum) to push off of. A burst of air will be shot out without resistance until gravity pulls it back home or until it hits another object.
    I remember the story of the two people who's experiences collaborate eachothers stories that free fell from the stratosphere. Their rotating trajectory could be altered (nothing they tried would work) until they hit more dense atmosphere were then they were about to us drag as a steering mechanism.

      @@NoBody-pw3kf equal but opposite reaction is only relevant to matter. Space is a vacuum (no matter).
      Minus gravitational and ion forces space is absent of all other forces. While matter can be affected by gravity it isnt a instant reaction that far away from the source (though gravity is still present well past the moon. Also ions can affect matter but like gravity not instantly (or the suns light would push the vessel off course). Secondly the vessel could only push off the sunny side. The shaded side wouldnt have ions because they would be blocked by the vessel.

      @@NoBody-pw3kf Newton's third law: If an object A exerts a force on object B, then object B must exert a force of equal magnitude and opposite direction back on object A.
      A object must "exert" force on "another". Since there is no other object (matter) to react with the third law doesnt apply.

    • @PaulAmerican
      @PaulAmerican Рік тому

      @Antoine Brosseau even NASA's glenn research center website says Newton's third law, "only when a object EXERTS FORCE on ANOTHER". There is no other object because space is a vacuum. You cant have a equal but opposite reaction without matter. Try again.

    • @PaulAmerican
      @PaulAmerican Рік тому

      @Antoine Brosseau I'm happy to spell out my point with evidences and sources. If you can prove my way wrong please submit evidences and sources of your own. I wrote that question for a astronaut to give me a explination too. I'm happy with anyone giving me a explination but I also want proof that doesnt contradicts itself (usually in its same sentence). Nasa itself says newtons 3rd law lined up with my version.

    • @PaulAmerican
      @PaulAmerican Рік тому

      @Antoine Brosseau im not the one that needs more schooling clearly its you. You attacking my schooling only proves I have made a statement you can prove me wrong. Your mad that I'm right, and its making you feel like you've been lied to your whole life and you dont want to feel like that. Friction has nothing to do with a first contact reaction. Friction is the reaction to a reaction which also needs matter to happen.
      You have the "experts" in "space studies" saying Newton's 3rd law only applies with matter (other objects) and you dont even believe them.

    I first saw on MilitaryTv his exploits in Afhstan leading his seal-squad Capt., Cassidy is a modern-day Ted Williams/JohnWayne why doesn't he have his own YT show as of today? He most definitely has a plethora of stories of his adventures, as an astronaut, & of course USNSeal! A movie or NetFlix series was made about him.Salute🫡, to you sir & thanks more than ever know for your service!
