It’s sad what happened to the flying Airwolf, would have been something to see her fly today!! Saw the replica recently, she is looking pretty rough sitting out in the elements.
Terrible shame of the 222’s crash, and the three on board losing their lives. Also a tragic shame of Jan Michael Vincent’s crash after his lifelong struggles. I hope he’s finally found peace. Growing up, Stringfellow Hawk and Airwolf were heroes to me.
@@lunamaria1048 To be fair, the 222A's had a bad reputation for poor reliability but I wouldn't say they had a bad reputation from a capability/flying perspective. That said, the 22As really needed the engines that went in the 222Bs (primarily for hot weather hover performance), the 222Bs were really what the 222As should have been in terms of general flight performance. The 222As still looks phucking sexy though! (as long they aren;t specified with skids)
I remember seeing Air Wolf on static display Seen Screaming Mimi from Rip tide and T.C.'s 500D as well at a few S. California airshows back in the '80s ...
I had a lot of high hopes when I heard of the AirWolf replica on the internet. Unfortunately as of now she really needs more love than to be sitting out on the tarmac with much neglect.
At 1:15 - The "Checkers Airwolf" is a South African-built replica, built by I think a man called Loekie, with his 2 sons and daughter. It toured South Africa to promote road safety and the Checkers stores in 1985 and 1986. Sadly the Bell 222 is not flying and is being used for spare parts.
they need to make a airwolf movie with the same story as the beginning of the series. that would be so dope. must be nice af to have airwolf on your mansion. won’t like i would too green for sure
Yeah they keep bringing back old ideas to make movies. Could be cool but maybe people aren't interested in helicopters nowadays. Doesn't have a futuristic look so don't think people would believe it's a good aircraft.
@@nothingchannel6699 There's also the matter of insurance, there are loads of flying sequences from the TV series that you simpy, could not get insurance for these days and lets be honest, CGI would be obvious and a serious let down.
i love the 80s airwolf is my fav make me wanna flying one i was 12 years old 13 years later spend £14k learning to fly and pass it and still fly the air guys? it worth it
So the replica made is sitting outside at Compton Airport? I am surprised that Bell doesn't buy it and put it in their show room. Would probably be a sales magnet.
Indeed. Many 'children of the 80s' are now in positions of power at companies where helo purchasing is a consideration, what better way to lure in someone born in the 70s than showing a mint condition 'Airwolf'.
Airwolf was sold at the end of the third season. In the fourth season they only had the airwolf that did not fly, and they showed already recorded images of the helicopter in flight.
I always thought it was a cool concept idea but helicopter blades but the reality is that helicopter blades prevent both stealth and high speed flights. The blades make too much noise for stealth and would crack and shatter under mach 1. Even if you managed to hide the blades during a jet type flight the engine would be too massive to fit as to make it impractical which is why they build harrier jets instead and went the armored route of the comanche and viper routes. Still it was a cool fantasy and I LOVED the show growing up! To think it died doing a real life rescue mission is pretty cool IMHO. I do feel sad knowing its gone and that pilots lost their life though.
I was in Germany when it crashed, and it was my favorite show. I knew what happened to the helicopter, just didn’t know the year it went down and where. This needs better narration, would be better coming from someone connected to the actual show.
Yup, just greedy studio executives trying to milk as many $$$ as they could out of the 'Airwolf' name. For must of us Airwolf fans, season 4 NEVER existed!
On the strength of the tv series, the London Metro Police bought 2 Bell 222s: they were disappointed that chainguns and missiles did not come as standard.
Why dismantle the helicopter after the program had been cancelled, such an iconic piece of history lost just because the owners wanted some cash, it's almost like they wanted to eradicate any existence of the show.
I would say season one was quality, along with some of season 2 (Moffet's Ghost, Fallen Angel), the show began to slip away from espionage plots, becoming more involved with domestic issues (somewhat like Knight Rider, which worked for Michael and KITT, not so much for a missile laden helicopter with 14 firepower options). By the third just felt like some episodes where the makers made less of an effort.
@@dannyr2976 Indeed, the first season was the best, it had a cold war feel, it was dark and gritty long before dark and gritty became popular. Some people complained that all the main characters were men, so Caitlin was added in season 2.
So sad it crashed. But why were they flying in misty weather..i wonder . I love the show. One of my favourites. They shouldn't of done a fourth season.
NO GOOD DEED EVER GOES UNPUNISHED . I believe that they were taking a Burn Victim to Berlin Hospital and then just got lost in the Fog and ran into a Mountain I used to know Ernest Borginine and I don't remember if He mentioned whether of not They had Doppler Radar installed on the Lady or Not if they had it would have definitely made a difference
In hindsight - once the child had been dropped off at the hospital, they potentially could have waited before attempting their RTB...sadly the aircrew decided to 'roll the dice' and now 'The lady' is long gone.
She literally broke in half, the entire tail section separated from the main body and the main body was just mashed/crumpled, nothing majot could be salvaged.
The problem in terms of having a flying 'Airwolf' replica these days is 'airframe hours'. Like any modern aircraft (commercial or military) the airframe (think chassis in an F1 car) is only rated to handle so much stress before it has to be scrapped and with no new 222 airframes being manufactured, the number of good quality 'spare' airframes is just not that high.
bad that they rebuild original heli back to rescue heli and some day he crashed and was destroyed, they should use him after series and put at museum for movie vehicles, same for a original kitt car or a-team van..
There is no 4th season. Just a crap made reboot they didnt have the helicopter anymore it was moved to Canada on a very low budget and recycled shots from the original series and different characters. Never will be a season 4 to me
The helicopter was cool but they always ended most of the battles with the same moves. You could pretty much guess what they were going to do to finish it.
Indeed. Generally I'd like to think that I'd avoid speaking ill of the dead but the one thing you do NOT do in a helo is fly in seriously adverse conditions, especialy when you lack the support of various technical systems to advise you of 'ground level' i.e. the kind of system that warns the pilot of modern airliner that they're about to go 'splat' if they don't gain altitude!
Grow up. Genuine everyday people died in the crash, the reason the helo looked different is explained in the video and common to most high value vehicles used in TV shows.

If it was sold and used as an air ambulance and repainted, what happened to all the custom body modifications that were created or the show?
The crew ate them

Interesting information, the best of Ariwolf was the pilot movie. The series gradually lost the attractiveness of the story.
