Thank you sooo much. I have found it very difficult to find good accurate and clear videos on how to on Saabs. You're video and efforts are greatly appreciated!
FYI , every how to person says to tighten the left rear is up . Either they don't know their left and rights. Up or downs. Easiest way to tell which way is tightening. Use a flash light and watch the star wheel you're spinning. If you can't see threads. It's all the way loose. Once you can see threads. You are tightening.
Thanks for this. Pity it didn't drop into my inbox before. Spent Sunday changing discs and pads front and rear on my 1999 2.0t. I also changed my front drop links which were a nightmare to get off. I ended up having to cut the bolts off with an angle grinder. I hesitated a long time over a rear jacking point too. I don't have a tow hook but in the end I placed the jack at the same point as you and then put axle stands under the jacking points indicated by Saab. As for handbrake adjustment, I'll give it a try with your method as the hand brake is pretty feeble. Strange it wasn't picked up during the "contrôle technique" last month. Great car but I'm lusting after a red aero estate. One day perhaps...
A good tip and what I have always done on all my cars with drum handbrakes is to pre apply the hand brake 3 clicks then adjust the brake till they bind. Always gives me a really strong hand brake.
Thanks so much. I would have had no idea that those adjustments were anywhere near where they are. How do your dashboard buttons still have the markings? (AC OFF, radio buttons, heating...) Mine are all scratched - I wonder if a previous owner had long fingernails! Any recommends to get replacements ?
I have a 2008 9-3, is it the same procedure for mine? I need to loosen mine tho because i cant drive it in snow due to the fact my rear tires lock up so its like tokyo drift but not willingly :’) Everytime i stop on dry asfalt i can release the footbrake and the car is dead locked in place so its stuck way too hard..
Nice video! Do you know if it works the same for a 9-3 from 2001? Because mine are way too tight, it's like I've handbrake pulled just a little bit all the time haha
Thanks for a good video but on my Saab 9-5 arc the adjustment screw on the right side goes up for tightening, not down, maybe earlier owner fixed the brakes and put it on the other way. When the screw gets longer then your screwing the right way.
If you can get a decent view through the hole, it's easy then to see which way to rotate the adjuster. Referring to the "Disc removed" picture from Platonoff shown in this video, if the adjuster is on the right of the barrel as you look at it, pushing it up will tighten the shoes, and (obviously) if the adjuster is on the left, pushing down tightens. That works regardless of which side of the car you are looking at or how the brakes were assembled. I can never remember which is which, so I always have to check!
Testa!
Probably a little late lol, but you may just have to look harder. It may not be visible at top dead center it may be slightly offset. I had trouble finding it the first time. You may be right though as I do have a 2005 arc so I wouldn't know about the 2008 aero's.
Thanks so much for this video! It should be the same on the V6, right? I am working on '03 9-5 ARC 3.0T and will be replacing the rotors and pads so I will do this while I am there (5 clicks and still no perfect lock). Is this easier with the rotor removed instead of going through the hole in the rotor?
And by "good time" you mean "too late" ;) The car got an underbody coating back in 2011, but there's nothing left of that now. And the shocks need replacement soon as you can see.
Hello, gentlemen, I have a Saab 9-5 Linear TiD 1.9 150 BHP from 2007, the question is whether someone can tell me what size of the rear brake discs has this model. They can not answer me in any store.
My dad has had tireshop since 1993 and I have been always accosiated with tirebusiness. Seeing Wrong size tires, visible marks or other things like this always catches my eyes right away 😂
Well it does not really matter, still enjoyed the video like allways. Btw do you know how reliable aftermarket turbos oillines are? Some parts are ok to be aftermarket but someparts like lambdas are always useless if they are not oem.
It is a 2004 Saab linear sportscombi with the b235l engine - 220hp Aero disc's on the front wheels as weel Mitshubishi td04 turbo and aero-clutch as standard from factory
Yeah, not fun. The parking at the hospital where she works is very tight, and it seems you get a new scratch on the car there every week :( That's not even the biggest dent we got the last year.
THE MOST annoying job I've done on my 9-5! So fiddly not being able to see and very uncomfortable. The direction tip is very useful - you can spend a lot of time fiddling but going the wrong way...
Did you all see Phoenix in the intro? :)
Thank you sooo much. I have found it very difficult to find good accurate and clear videos on how to on Saabs. You're video and efforts are greatly appreciated!
Glad you like it!
Just for other people if you're doing it again and don't remember:
Left wheel - turn up to make it tighter
Right wheel - turn down to make it tighter
From the perspective of driving the car, correct?
@@Oscar-pm9bx no, from the perspective when looking at the hub from each side.
I stretched it all out getting sideways in the snow. This is exactly what I needed! THX!
Fellow 2006 (and '99) 9-5 owner here. Great info. Glad I found your channel.
Glad to see you here! Happy it helped :)
I just did my 9-3 which has same brakes as 9-5 and got 1.8kn for both sides.
The inspector (besiktningsingenjör) was very pleased.
Awesome, glad it helped you :)

Tack!
Utmärkt! ut och spänn :)

Thanks a lot. It was very smart👍😊
Mvh
Vad kul att höra! :D
As always, a good and informative video.
Thanks! :)
Beautiful color! Good detailed info, thanks
Grym video!
Mhhmm that biltema jack doe, hope u grabbed a biltema körv on the way out to;) great content as allways!
Lol. ;)
Nice video. A quick note though: according to the workshop manual the wheels should lock after 2-3 clicks
And that's what I do at the shoes. Then, at the lever adjustment nut, it's supposed to lock after 1 (which it will do) :)
Oh I see, sorry I missed that part :)
@@TrionicSeven what clicks by the tires?? 🤔
Question: Have you ever done a video on replacing the parking brake boot/gaiter? I couldn't find one. Mine is all worn and flaking. Part # 4816120.
Isn´t it supposed to loose the 10 mm nut first behind the handbrake?
nice very detailed i always hated saabs until one was given to me great car
So you like them now?

I did this on my saab 9-5 -06 today, however.. pushing the screw upwards on the left side loosened the handbrake. Anyways, nice video as always.
Interesting, we have the same model year. Anyway, good you got it sorted :)
For some reason Every youtuber says it backwards. So annoying from how to instructors.
Grymt bra instruktionsvideo!
Tack! :D
Nice video! Do you know if it works the same for a 9-3 from 2001? Because mine are way too tight, it's like I've handbrake pulled just a little bit all the time haha

It’s the same as in the 9-3 ver 2 so u dont have to go under the car to adjust the cable
9-3 gen 1 has the adjuster under the car though
Thank you I will be doing this for my next job
Good luck!
@@TrionicSeven thank you
Very helpful! Thanks!
You're welcome!
9-5 Aero 2008 is different apparently. No tightening screw throught that hole, only the spring is showing.

I think it's the same, yes. If the adjustment doesn't give good results you might need to replace the handbrake hardware.
Thanks for this video
New to sab but is your car not the 95 estate ? Mines a 9-5 vectra saloon
The car in the vid is a 9-5 estate.
@@TrionicSeven so it has the vector engine
Seems like it´s a good time to put on some rust protection inside the wheel arch.
And by "good time" you mean "too late" ;)

Would you rather have a Saab 9-5 the newest model Saab made before they left or Saab 9-3 turbo x
Interesting question. Are you talking about the ng9-5?
Trionic Seven yeah
I know nothing about the ng9-5, unfortunately. But the ng9-5 is on a platform eight years newer than the 9-3 so that makes a big difference.
Hello, gentlemen, I have a Saab 9-5 Linear TiD 1.9 150 BHP from 2007, the question is whether someone can tell me what size of the rear brake discs has this model. They can not answer me in any store.
I think it's the same as all the other non-aero Saab 9-5. 286x10mm
why would you ever mark your tires on the outside? yeah you can get it off with bräkleen or other stuff quite fast but it is always extrawork
Haha, yeah, that's my own stupidity from last year ;)
My dad has had tireshop since 1993 and I have been always accosiated with tirebusiness. Seeing Wrong size tires, visible marks or other things like this always catches my eyes right away 😂
You spotted that right away :)

oh and I am talking about 02 95 b235e
Thank you men.
Good job, man:) liked👍
Thank you!!!
Mvh
Gäller alla 9-5 :)
Hey,
I have ventilated brake disc´s as standard brakes on my rear wheels on my SAAB 9-5 and it is not an AERO...
What is your model? The V6 is the only exception I can think of, but it's such a rare model.
It is a 2004 Saab linear sportscombi with the b235l engine - 220hp
Aero disc's on the front wheels as weel
Mitshubishi td04 turbo and aero-clutch as standard from factory
Ah, you have the elusive 2.3T. Yep, that car is 99% an Aero except the sodium valves and overboost.
ok 😊 I was not aware of that👍
Can you explain the "sodio valves and overboost? Comparede to Aero?
Seems like I'm mistaken about the valves. Only difference is software, 2.3T is detuned compared to the Aero. Otherwise, same hardware.
Don't get it.. you wanted the handbrake to catch harder and you loose it?.
Great 👍🏻
0:50 that's quite a dent in the drivers door
Yeah, not fun. The parking at the hospital where she works is very tight, and it seems you get a new scratch on the car there every week :( That's not even the biggest dent we got the last year.

Informative video but would help if you took sunglasses off to do job 😀😀

THE MOST annoying job I've done on my 9-5! So fiddly not being able to see and very uncomfortable. The direction tip is very useful - you can spend a lot of time fiddling but going the wrong way...
As you saw, I had to lie on the ground with the lamp to see what I was doing.

Don't try changing the power steering pressure hose then! Lol

Your rotor is trash. It really should be replaced.
