What I love about this take is that not only is Trent singing backup to his own song and paying his respects to his fellow goth idol, but Peter is also paying his respects to his former Bauhaus colleagues during that era they were split apart and doing their own separate thing.. singing the lyrics "Haunted when the minutes drag.." a seminal classic from Love & Rockets' first album 7th Dream of Teenage Heaven. God I admire these guys more than ever now!!

When Reznor sings it, its like he is suffering, when Murphy sings it, he makes it sound like he is the aggressor, very very good twist on a great song.

i have heard trent only sing a thousand times, appreciate the fact that Peter murphy was willing to lend his voice to this.. It is a great collaboration of musical geniuses.
Peter Murphy is unconditionally qualified to always be able to sing NIN songs, anywhere, anytime. He is an excellent performer. If you ever have a chance to see him live, take it at all costs.

I saw Peter in Ankara a few months back. I recognied him in a mosque from the old Bauhaus days. Great discussion on the Qur'an followed. His post-grunge stuff completes the circle back to the 80's.
I consider this far better than Bowes version with reznor. Peter Murphy just adds this amazing touch to it that sadly, David Bowie could not "give it".
bruno gonzalez I cannot say I prefer one over the other. Both David Bowie and Peter Murphy have incredible voices that add to the overall feel of the song. I kind of like Bowie's attitude and vocals better ( I feel as if his haunting voice better suits this particular song) yet Peter makes a statement with every performance (be it a cover) and leaves your mind replaying his lines over and over. Sadly I can't express myself fully or I'll end up writing a novel (so sorry if anything's unclear + for my bad English)
