    IKO feedback: ikointl/posts/121910315...
    «We would like to remind that the procedure applied by the kiter is not perfect according to IKO strict theoretical standards. However, we also remind that performing a self-rescue in real situation like this, with big swell and a lot of sea weeds makes it much more difficult. The rider was obviously skillful and he used improvisation but stayed calm at all time which is the key of success.»

    This is really worth carefully watching - the Russian guy gets his lines entangled, switches kites and gives his own kite to the guy who entangles with his lines, connects his safety to the guy's kite, swims to it and self-rescues. Hardcore!

      Hopefully you have a blade to cut the lines if it comes to that. Otherwise you might have to abandon it and swim - let the other guy pay $30 to go out in the boat and get it. Maybe better to leave the kite as a marker than leave unmarked lines for something to get trapped in.

I have been in many scrapes and I habr also been rescued closer to shore, by the Pride club...i paid for a rescue when i rented. Light wind conditions like that and going THAT far out is suicidal cause no one can see ubas u drift. Had an 8 meter drifter...it is awesome but the Switchblade is now superior. the boatman did really well not getting the lines tangled up in his propellors.getting the kite deflated,maybe ha had a wife and should have been working.the boatman also seemed to think it was too risky to continue negotiations.perhaps the boatman could have claimed salvage ?some people do recommend carrying a special kite surfers safety knife in case of entanglement around the legs as the lines can be really difficult to undo?if completely deflated can the kite sink?

    First thing i do when i see someone in the water released regardless is to head that way to check on them. Dont see a single one come to their aid until 8-9 min. People do die in this sport and it dont cost you much to go check. Seen it far to many times and in my own experience tredding water. I could be mistaken in this case but i doubt it. Fantastic job though!

      Good question. It's difficult to tell from the video. It's possible that the other kiter(guy without video camera) jumped into his way, but personally that seems kinda unlikely considering how unprepared and clueless he seemed during the whole interaction. Seeing as how the guy recording didn't include an explanation for the incident as a way to take blame off of himself, I can safely assume that he (the guy recording) was the cause of the incident.

      I'd say the other guy was riding too closely behind him and not expecting him to do a bottom turn

    • @jsnowbrien
      @jsnowbrien 5 років тому +4

      axisgr the guy that was filming himself did a bottom turn and sent the kite across the window. the other guy was riding too close behind him when there's waves in involved you need to understand that Advanced Riders are going to be swinging the kite around once they catch the wave to stay in the pocket the lesson to learn is don't ride close enough to people wear if they do a kiteloop your lines are going to get wrapped around them.

    • @sebastiann.2941
      @sebastiann.2941 7 років тому +2

      1. Dont let this happen
      2. Dont panic eject - survive the first few loops
      3. Try to untangle
      if 3. doesnt work than eject and selfrescue
      so... pretty mutch what they did expect him nearly drowning while getting to the kite.
      I would ask a third one to drag me in, with the dangled kite.
      Yourself before the kite.

    If it was the other guys fault - he is a true hero! But I wouldnt recommand going into the lines with your hands. These cuts can take fingers or hands or even arms if they get power back on the lines. But he truly knew what he was doing.
