WHOOAAA.. The AVR-X4500 has been replaced? That's a tremendous shock because the 4500 was one of the most loved Denon receivers! I would think they would have replaced the lower model with the 4500 because of the absolute worldwide LOVE of the 4500!

Would be nice if you tested the speaker setup for Dolby Atmos, Auro 3D and DTS-X in every position. My setup up for my height channels will be front and middle and it would be nice to know that it works well. I would do my back wall but I have a door right on the very edge of the wall coming into the room, then I have about 5 feet length wise from the door and then I have a window about 6 feet wide and then about 4 feet from the window to the edge of the other wall. So I cannot put my rear heights on the back wall whatsoever.

Owner of 75" Sony 900H (patiently waiting on 2.1 and PS5), I have it paired with my Denon AVR-S750H. Ive grown quite fond of the Denon which I bought 1 year ago...do I necessarily NEED a 2.1 receiver as well? Or can I just plug the PS5 into the Sony (hope to God it not the dam eARC port) and use ARC to get audio back to receiver? The Mrs aint goin for a $1700 receiver if my current 1 works lol

The Denon AVR-X2700H is suffering from eArc issues using eArc and a games console via eArc and sound mode selection. Not using bitstream, but LPCM.
It only happens when the source is eARC (ie internal apps from the TV when eARC is enabled or using a games console via eArc). The Denon app shows Multi-channel PCM input, however, the output options are not the same when receiving multi-channel PCM from an input directly connected to the receiver.

When using eArc on my TV connected to the Denon, the denon receives multichannel PCM input from the TV, but when I go to select a sound mode on the receiver, I only have a choice of multichannel stereo, stereo or DSur.
Why will it not let me select a sound mode like Multichannel PCM? It should let me output the same format as what the receiver is receiving? Like Input-Multichannel PCM Output-Multichannel PCM.
There is a clearly a bug with this receiver, that will not let me output Multichannel PCM as a sound mode over eArc.
    Input (eARC multi channel PCM):
Output (choices are Stereo, DSur, Multi Ch Stereo):
Can test this to see if they have been able to get Multichannel PCM sound mode output? Rather than Stereo, DSur, Multichannel stereo?
I am sure this is a bug with the latest receivers? And needs fixing via firmware update.

With the GUI’s of modern TVs today and their built in app’s I feel that these AVR units are unnecessary for video and have little advantage and are now a bit over complex and dated .However they are necessary for sound output which is how I use mine.I simply turn on my tv select the source and off I go.On most 4K HDR BluRay players you can go direct to your tv and use another HDMI solely for sound.

Hello, I'm new to the channel and love the content and comparisons.
I bought my first TV, LG CX77, a few weeks ago and I'm disappointed in the state of audio. There's no software volume control or "smart" volume control to my 2.1 speakers using SPDIF: I need to use a separate remote to control the speaker volume.
I have a Nintendo Switch and Nvidia Shield Pro hooked up to my TV and stream games and media from my PC over the network so I don't have a need for all the inputs and outputs of a receiver. My TV has 4 fully featured HDMI 2.1 connections unlike this receiver so hooking up gaming devices to it seems like the wrong way to go.
Will I get volume control from my TV remote, using CEC, if put a receiver in between the TV and speakers? I imagine using a single eARC cable between the TV and receiver.
    Comments appreciated.

    • @tHAvIlLaMaN

Hey and welcome aboard! HDMI was invented to solve problems like that one. Optical relies on the output device to control the volume, so you’ll need a separate remote (or at least a programmable universal one like a Logitech harmony)
If the connect a device using HDMI, whether it be a receiver or another sound bar, you won’t have that problem anymore since you’ll be able to control the volume with either the TV or receiver/sound bar remote. Hope that helps!

I'm new to Home Theater (coming from Bose, thank you all for your sympathy). I have Klipsch speakers on their way to me: FRONTS: 2 RP-8000f (150 w continuous), CENTER: RP-504c (150w cont), REARS: 2 RP-600m (100w cont), SUBWOOFER: 2 spl-100. This Denon AVR-X4700H as listed on Best Buy says (125 watt x 9). Does that mean my rear speakers won't work with this receiver, they'll be overpowered? The Denon AVR-X3700H is listed as (105 watt x 9) will that work or will it do more harm than good? If either of them won't work what do you recommend? Super curious to know how this unit "sees" the signal from an Xbox One X when the console is set to bitstream out and Dolby Atmos for home theater. It seems that on "entry level" Denon receivers the AVR will always say Atmos on the display even when just navigating the Xbox dashboard. On the higher end Denon receivers, that apparently have "advanced signal processing", the receiver will not show Atmos when just navigating the dashboard. I would love confirmation on this before I pull the trigger.

Love your video's man, but its worth INCLUDING (and missing here), informing the viewer what you mean when saying 'pass-through' (and maybe even mentioning why its a good thing (or not)).
Also, would like to get some test feedback on quality of 4K & 8K, with emphasis on quality of up-scaling from standard 480p DVD's. There are movies on DVD that you just cannot get on higher resolution formats, nor any of the streaming services due to either lacking investment to do so, have not got around to it YET; and/or, lost masters from fire (there was a big loss years ago where one of the major studio's lost content after a fire that is forever lost -- so there are DVD's that have to be preserved until they get some high-end upconversion love). So, when I'm looking at new gear, I always look to what kind of upscaling quality I can get for huge DVD collection that is non-replacable (yet) by anything of higher quality A/V formats.
