    I'm just gonna say that Snap-On's 18v cordless lineup is the most laughable tool line out there. Almost 2019 and charging 600-800 for old brushed cordless garbage

      @Don Quixote I disagree. Milwaukee's massive M12 Fuel line up destroys the overpriced 14.4v power tools from Snap-on. Not a Snap-on hater either, i own plenty of there hand tools. All my power tools are M12 Fuel though. Can't beat the M12 line-up or the 5 year warranty.

    First time viewer and die hard snap on fan here. As hard as it is to say the Milwaukee is killing it! I’ve been waiting for snap on to come out with there brushless models for a while,a couple of weeks ago I decided I was done waiting and bought a full line up of Milwaukee. What a surprise, love them all.

      I’m actually a heavy off road diesel mechanic and I’m more into the high torque Milwaukee’s but also own the stubby in the video. As far as the hard line hand tools go, I haven’t found anything close to snapons quality! If you have any ideas of anything holding up like snap on’s let me know. Good video bud and as of now, I’m a subscriber take care

      Interesting case and it doesn't look good for snapons appeal to the case. Also make one wonder why Dewalt never got sued by them when most everyone else did. Did they get with a Japanese battery maker or just pay Milwaukee royalties.

    Vince, nice video. As a technician I've been buying Snap on exclusively for at least 40 years! (approx. over $40k at this point). I jumped over to Milwaukee for cordless tools during a rental remodel about 6 years ago and will only purchase Milwaukee Battery powered tools now (still buy Snap on hand tools). Milwaukee Fuel can't be beat and they have recently won litigation against Snap on for copyright infringement on their red lithium technology. Greatly enjoy the side by side spec comparison, thanks.

    I am a skilled trades Tool and Die maker. I have been using snap on tools for my entire career the last 15 years to be specific. I literally have that Snap-on IMPAC and have had it for three years. I have had it rebuilt twice since the warranty expired! As my snap on tools break I plan on switching over to Milwaukee. My company received a military contract and I have for the last year been working with company bought Milwaukee tools while I work on government stuff and all I can say is that I want every one of those cordless Milwaukee tools in my toolbox ASAP! Be warned on full torque these things can easily snap off bolts

    I own the first run of the CT761. Great tool. After a year, right after the warranty ended. Gun took a crap. Bearing on the front nose broke, trigger wouldn't always work, wire broke on the back of the drive motor. Snap-on sent it in for repairs for $120. If it broke again, I would definitely try out Milwaukee. Half the price, double the torque, 5X warranty. Cannot beat it at this moment

    Good post sir. Yeah I paid up and bought 3 Snap-on guns the ratchet, a 1/2 and the 3/8. This may sound dumb but the 3/8 is so small I didn't think I would really use it. Well let me tell you it has so much power I use it more than the 1/2. It's the 18v CT8801A. The gun by itself is very small, I have a 4 amp hour battery which does make it a bit larger, but it is very compact. They came by my store with a pickup full of guns for the holidays at a very good price.

I love snap on they make great tools but the cordless tools can’t compete with the Milwaukee

    Milwaukee is going over and above. This is crazy!! Snap on is going to lose all of the mechanics business. The only thing going for them is if the mechanics don't put the Impact in the right setting they might start ringing off bolts and now they will have to drill out and tap out the bolts. That takes some time!!!! Great video Vince, love you guys brother!!!!

    I have the Milwaukee m12 3/8” stubby but oddly enough i have the snap on 1/4 impact driver version of the impact shown, I like the Milwaukee for heavier stuff, but the little 1/4” snap on with 65 ftlbs is great for pre torque assembly, transmission pans, oil pans, valve covers interior screws, and wheel wells. Where the Milwaukee is for driving screws on construction(which the snap on will still do) and has too much power for the light finesse work.

I was trying to wait for Snap On to come out with a brushless motor for their impact but nothing yet. They have upgraded their 14.4 batteries to 2.5aH but Milwaukee still has them beat. I'm in the automotive field for reference.

  • @natloz17

    I've had snapon for many years. Convenience I guess is the reason. The 14.4 stuff has been good to me, but I've had the impact rebuilt (they send a new one) 6 times. Actually bought a spare because it tskes 3 to 4 weeks to get it back. Next time the one I'm using goes down, I'll get it rebuilt, and sell them both. Getting the Milwaukee for sure. Use a 3/4 drive Milwaukee almost daily, and love it.

  • @lonmoer9966

    Another area of consideration is the price and availability of extra or replacement batteries. The cordless Snap-On we had worked fine, but replacement batteries were not always in stock on the truck. In our case, we had a contract with a Dallas area Snap-On dealer but his visits were "on request"..we had to call him up and he'd schedule a stop with us between his regulars.
    Toggle triggers, I'm not a fan. We had a DeWalt corded 3/4" impact wrench. Nothing wrong with the trigger, but I was used to manually changing the direction due to more frequent use of pneumatic impact wrenches. No comment on price, I wasn't paying for the new tools/toys...the water department paid for them and I budgeted myself a bit over $1 million for parts/labor/tools.

  • @jasonhull2163
    @jasonhull2163 3 роки тому

    Snap on has the best quality for the most part as far as no gears are powder metal pressed, the anvil housings are thicker, and you can service them easily. However there is no EXCUSE for Snap on to be so weak compared to other competitors. I bought a NICAD 3/8 Snap on and 1/2 18 volt NICAD Snap on impact new back in 2010. They had great power then for their time. Noway I’d buy a Snap on impact these days. The Milwaukee and Makita kill them in power. I still use the 11 year old 3/8 Snap on impact because it still runs and so does the 18 volt. I have had batteries rebuilt about 4 times or so each. I am a Makita guy for the most part but my Wife bought me the DeWalt 12 volt extreme 3/8 impact and it’s very nice. I would love to own some M18 impacts but I don’t have a lot of M18 tools. I will own a Milwaukee stubby one day and the 1 inch gun. Snap on is basically a Lamborghini with no motor these days.

    As a Professional Mechanic, 90% of my tools are Snap-On. I have every one of their 14.4 Volts Tools, some doubles. I got the new Milwaukee 3/8'' stubby cordless Impact from Cornwell tools, but that doesn't mean I don't use my Snap-On Cordless 14.4V Tools. Still I used both brand daily. No need to hate this or that. At the end of the day, they do their job. The ones that complains seems like the ones that don't make enough money. Snap-On, Cornwell, Matco, SK, Mac Tools all come around to the shops, every now and then you'll end up having to look for something from each and every one of those vendors. It's the cheap ones that don't make enough that don't buy tools. If it get the job done, it gets the job done. Regardless what awkward brand, price or tool it is.

Only here Milwaukee is the clear winner and you still stick with the "if your complaining then you don't make enough money" bullshit? I say your trying to do one of the 1 of the 3 things here, 1: your either trying to justify spending a bunch of money on an inferior product, 2: your pissed because nobody is will to buy your overpriced snap on cordless set for what you want so you can get smart and grab the whole Milwaukee set... Or 3: You really are that stupid.

  • @xXBurntBaconXx
    @xXBurntBaconXx 5 років тому

    I have the 3/8 Milwaukee Stubby, and I think I'm the only one who says anything bad about it. The first is the 2.0Ah battery is absolutely garbage with this tool. I don't have the 3.0Ah or 4.0Ah battery, planning on getting the 6.0Ah as soon as I find a store that has it in stock (everyone says they have it in stock, but when I go check nothing on the shelf). With the 2.0Ah battery I removed and replaced one fuel tank (2 bolts that required the tool to impact the bolt the entire way out), and did one alternator (x6 10mm bolts, required a little impacting and then it was out). Battery was at 50% after just 2 jobs. The Milwaukee is easily the shortest Coredless impact I've seen, however the body is extremely fat. It actually makes it kind of hard to get into tight areas. Example when I was doing the alternator, I was doing it on a Ford Van, not much space right. I put a shallow 10mm socket on it, and the problem was the tool was so fat it was hitting the pulley on the alternator and I was unable to access the bolt. Apply a short extension or a universal and I'm in the fan as now its too long. Almost all jobs I would have to use some sort of extension to move the fat body away from whatever I'm trying to remove otherwise it just touches it/rubs up against it. Even brake calipers it would hit the caliper before the socket would go on the bolt.
    My favorite so far has been a 1/2" MAXIMUM Brushless Impact sold by Canadian Tire. It uses a 20V battery, its shorter than the Snap-On but barely any larger than the Milwaukee. I think its made by DeWalt as the batteries are very similar/almost the same. Its rated at 165 ft-lbs but it feels like its more than the Milwaukee. I can go almost 3 weeks without charging the batteries on it, it can pull lug nuts off Diesel F350 (I think they are torqued to 165ft-lbs). The 2 issue is that its 1/2" so I'm using fat/large sockets with it. The other thing is that its slow when it is impacting. The tip of it is much smaller/narrower than the Milwaukee so I don't have any issues with the body. I can use a short socket and the narrower body doesn't get in the way. I'm planning on buying the 6.0Ah battery soon and trying it out again, but so far its so disappointing. All my Co-workers use the Snap-On one and it feels pretty good. It feels like it impacts much faster so a lot of people assume it has more power but my 1/2" MAXIMUM will bust open nuts it can't. Like if I had 2 bolts torqued to 100 ft-lbs the Snap-On one will pull it off before my MAXIMUM one could, however torque that bolt to 200+ft-lbs and the Snap-On sometimes can't pull it off however the MAXIMUM one will.

    I own both. I love both. Milwaukee just found a way to step up and step up the ratings and power of all there tools. Snap-On’s CT761 will always be an Iconic tool they technicians love but when milwaukee released the stubby line I bought the 1/4, 3/8, and 1/2 and I bought them for a specific Diesel engine I work on the Mercedes sprinter van at my Mercedes dealership. The stubby impacts feel very nice not to heavy and have plenty or more then enough power. The CT761 feels good balanced nicely and has perfect amount of power for its size. At the end it’s all up to the consumer and what they are looking for. You have consumers that look for the bang for the buck, consumer that are brand loyal, or consumer that takes the tool cause they are getting a deal on the tool right then and there. If a young tech were to ask me which one would you have me go with Al? I’d tell them go milwaukee save your money and get hand tools with the extra money your saving.

    Milwaukee M12 battery has three cells that are each 3.6 volts nominal in series so you get your 10.8 volts. Snap-on on the other hand must be using 4 cells in series at 3.6 volts to get to 14.4 volts

    I used to watch an stock market TV show called "Mad Money with Krammer" where he took phone calls live on the air and answered stock market questions by viewers. One of the viewers asked him one time about investing in tool stocks. Krammer responded by saying that Klein Tools and Snap On were the last independant American tool companies and that every other tool brand was either owned by large corporate conglomerate or was a shell corporation that had some one else doing their manufacturing for them.

    Big Milwaukee fan here but I've got the Snap On CT. The toggle switch is great, and the body is narrower for getting into tighter spaces. It'd be nice to have the power of the Milwaukee but lets face it, most of the time the biggest thing you'll have this on is M10, but more than likely M8 or smaller. Also you're being a bit unfair comparing the Snap Ons list price to the store price of the Milwaukee. See the list price above of $430? Pretty close eh.

    As far as Snap On the cordless impact & drills they are not worth the money way over priced. Hand tools are a different story from Snap On if your auto technician. But the best cordless line up for auto technicians are the newest tools from Ingersoll Rand. They are some of the highest quality impact guns & ratchets on the market. Go check them out very impressive looking cordless tools. Me being a General Contractor I would still go Milwaukee all the way !!!

      Matt Lane That’s fine if you feel that Harbor Freights pro line are quality tools to work with on cars or trucks, but when I worked as a mechanic I mostly bought Snap On wrenches & most hand tools. That was about 15 years ago & I never had a Snap On wrench break on me & they did fit better on the nut or bolt I was trying to break loose. Take my word that it’s not fun when a wrench breaks or if you strip out the bolt your trying to remove. Don’t get me wrong there was other good companies to I also bought Mac tools and for some stuff craftsman/Matco/ Cornwell and even SK weren’t bad at the time. In the 10 years I was a mechanic I never seen anyone with tools from HF, but maybe that’s different theses days. I do know that there is a few new companies that make mostly mechanic tools that are just as good as Snap On for half the price. So I do agree with you to a point but if I went back to working on cars I wouldn’t be buying Snap On because most of their tools aren’t even made in 🇺🇸 anymore. Times have changed that’s for sure 👍🏼

You see its not just about the tool its about the relationship with you're tool provider as well .unfortunately most guys look at the "right now" instead of the big picture . !Look at it this way . Yes, the Snap On truck is the allure. You and I are not Snap On’s target market. Sure, they’ll sell us tools, but they’re competing for the auto tech’s money. Tech’s don’t have a week to be without their impact if it breaks. If they’re under warranty, Snap On will take care of them right then. Once it’s out of warranty, Snap On will refurbish it for these guys at a highly discounted rate. If you get paid astronomically more when you do jobs faster, like dealer mechanics do, it’s worth a bit of extra money to have your tool guy on call. Plus there are other perks, like they deliver their tool chests right to their bay. It’s the fluff and buff treatment for techs, but not worth it at all for us.

    • @Jpilgrim30
      @Jpilgrim30 5 років тому

      As a 20 year professional auto tech that’s only somewhat true. Things like these cordless impacts usually have to be sent off and they’ll be gone for about 3 weeks. The tool truck MAY have a loaner to let you borrow in the meantime but most of the time they don’t because someone else has it. I’d rather run to Home Depot after work that day and have it taken care of fully on the spot. I have so many hand tools that I can be without one of them if they break and I have to wait. Until fairly recently there hasn’t been a truck brand that had any decent cordless tools. Mac has had some pretty good brushless stuff for a while now but really it’s just rebadged Dewalt XR. Matco’s stuff is pretty meh except for their 16v infinium ratchets. The 3/8 version is rated at 70 ft lbs and will jerk a knot in your wrist!

    Actually Milwaukee is using the max output level saying 12 volt is 3 cells maxed at 4 volts per cell the snap on is using average voltage 14.4 volt with 4 cells menial volt 3.6 volts per cell. So the snap on should be more powerful as it's using more cells and would have less voltage sag and more power. Just goes to show how far behind SO is being lower powered with more cells.

    Even though I have the Milwaukee 1/2 inch M18 Full Sized Fuel Impact wrench, for the smaller sized stubby impacts Snap On is the winner for me after using both. The ergonomics and form factor are 1000000000x better than anything Milwaukee has produced and it's satisfying to use. The 3/8 Milwaukee electric ratchet are also MUCH weaker in real world scenarios compared to the Snap On electric ratchets for some reason. If Milwaukee redesigns their next fleet to be lighter and better engineered to reduce fatigue, they'll dominate the 3/8" market just like they do the 1/2" market.
