There's actually a tabletop RPG that does away with explicit turn-based mechanics. Obviously there's some limits imposed by the fact that the DM can only acknowledge/keep track of so many things, but every action (and their damage) is handled by rolling a pair of d6s - and in practice, the flow is largely dictated more by theatrical descriptions of actions than by anything else. Silly nonsense like one player catapulting another through the air for a ridiculous attack goes much more smoothly than in 5e for example. Can't remember the name of it for the life of me though.
There's several whole genres that do that. You might like PbtA, which uses it (games include Avatar, Thirsty Sword Lesbians, and Rapscallion), but there's also other games like Seventh Sea, Spire/Heart, Nasty Brutish and Long, and Honey Heist! Have fun!
Nightsong can single handly clear the moon rise tower is surprisingly lore accurate tho. wouldn't expect less from a literal daughter of a goddness lol
@@loC2ol She was actually really helpful for me during act 3. I suppose cause I drew aggro. The only trouble I had with aylin was the passive bone chill myrkul's aspect gives off which prevented her from ever getting back up.

I've never played a game with turn-based combat so I thought that I wouldnt like it - but I love how slow-paced it is so it doesnt stress me at all (which is what I need right now from a game)
I was never gonna use this mod because I didn't want to deal with the level of chaos. But I was curious how it would play out. So thank you, Bouch, for giving into the urge to try out ridiculous things in BG3 once more!
You should do a “become what you kill” challenge. Anything you kill in combat you become it in the middle of combat. Start as a paladin, then become a goblin, then become the netherbrain.
using spore servant on the Nightsong for an unkillable companion is so OP. the death ward trick that is specific to this exact scenario is hilarious too
With significantly more development and much bigger changes to how the game functions and behaves, this could be a fun alternative way to play the game. It'll be interesting to see how it evolves.
Honestly I think this mod needs 3 main things 1 a pause button (this makes combat easier) 2 better party ai /ai in general 3 the ability to use spells than need to be used in combat in real time combat
The first one completely defeats the purpose of real time combat. The best choice, which I don't know if it would even be possible, is to add some sort of slowdown.

Bouch, there was released new mod on BG3 Nexus called "It Follows (Weeping Angels)" It significantly changes gameplay and i suggest you to beat game on honour with this mod (or at least try) Idea for video name is something like "Baldur's Gate 3 but i'm being chased" or something like that
This is the funniest thing I've seen on youtube this week, it's so satisfying to see you break the game with the Glut! Solo Honor mode with this mod is probably an absolute nightmare....... you should try it LOL
Maybe once it’s updated more it would be possible to do solo honor mode, but as it’s shown in this video I’d honestly wager it’s literally impossible 😭😭
What I’ve liked about the turn based combat is that it allows you to chill and have an easier time setting up complex strategies like barrelmancy cheese stuff and enemies playing around their environment. The real time combat kind of makes that stuff ridiculously hard to pull off and kind of reduces everything to “bonk them before they bonk you.” It’s hilarious to watch but I would never play it cause of the undermining of complexity.
Never had a doubt since the beginning, but if this doesn't prove it, nothing will. You're easily the best player this game has ever seen. Aylin and Glut blew my mind but what followed? My mind is blown. Impressive beyond words. Never stop making content.
5e combats without turns feel like when an entire bar, soaked with hard liquor and barely able to see straight, decides to have a free-for-all fistfight
Funnily enough, this is actually a return to form. The original Baldur’s Gate games did not have turn based combat but rather real time gameplay with the option to pause at any moment and assign orders. If they implemented a pause feature, it’d work perfectly fine. There have even been a few modern rpgs with these features like the Pathfinder games and Pillars of Eternity.
Video idea: Calculating the minimum number of dice rolls it would take to beat the game. This means you need to avoid dice checks wherever possible, and for an extra challenge have all dice be nat 1s so you can find the guaranteed maximum lowest number of dice rolls. I imagine routing could be an interesting challenge - suddenly buried chests become landmines with those survival rolls. Presumably you'll add a stipulation like ignoring enemy rolls (or get a mod which sets all enemy rolls to auto win) because otherwise that sounds helish to track.
I finished my first pure evil playthrough today but the final battle took forever because I decided to summon the entire pact of allies, so imagine one turn.... felt like forever, so I watched youtube between each turns....... with that said....... I wondered "isn't there a way they can skip the NPC dashing and wasting my time!?" Then I got this recommended on my youtube. My conclussion: I will never take it for granted again.
As always, very interesting and fun video! Maybe you can make another one when the mod is more stable? ...I wonder when Morgana Evelyn will try this mod 😆
I love how even tho Karlach probs isn't the best choice here, Bouch just decided to engage the grindset and make Mommy K do her thing anyways instead of re-doing it and pretending it never happened.
i truly did not expect the plot twist of bringing enemy corpses back to life. that is super freaking cool. i wonder how much we can push it without the mods?
This was amazing, love the smell of Brie wafting through the video. Would love to see you do this with a companion play through similar to your previous one.
Imagine playing these encounters at a table with pen and paper. Just everyone talking over each other while constantly rolling dice.
