Thanks Ben, after thoroughly cleaning the exhaust vents inside and under the house (no help), I was all ready to order and swap all the parts out on my 8 yr old Cabrio but when I took the front off I was shocked to see all the huge gobs of lint clods that had grown on inside the plenum intake (other side of the lint screen). So after a thorough cleaning of that area I decided to put the dryer back together and see if that might have been the problem!? And YEP, that was it. The heating coils started working again and the check vent light never came back on. My wife says I am the man! But really Ben is the man!
Simply the best how to video I have ever come across on UA-cam. Very easy to follow steps with nothing left out. I followed to the letter and found my issue to be the heating element had packed up. $40 fix. If all videos on UA-cam were this well put together we’d have no need for tradesmen. Thank you so much!!
Thanks for the video. It makes me want to throttle the design engineers at Whirlpool. The Whirlpool I just replaced was over 25 years old. To gain access to the heating element I just had to remove 8 or so screws on the back panel. I then had access to the entire heating system to check/replace the components. Now you have to practically disassemble the whole machine! Remove the whole drum just to check the thermostat or heating element? What BS. Talk about a giant step backwards.
They simply don’t make things anymore easy to work on, they actually want to make it harder. Considering repair technician fees for the time it takes and parts pricing makes the person with a broken unit contemplate just getting a new one instead which is what manufacturers want. They don’t want you to have a dryer that lasts forever and easy to fix. Just like the ancient vacuums that don’t break, the old fridges that work like the day they were new. They all caught on that they can make more money by making products that fail over time and even more money if you make them difficult to fix.
This video just saved me $200-$300! You did such an amazing job going step by step and I was able to install a new heating element all by myself! Thank you so much for taking the time to do such a detailed, informative video! Very well done and very much appreciated!
Thanks! Absolutely the best DIY instructional video I ever watched. It helped that you were troubleshooting my exact model dryer! Very lucky to find both you and my dryer in the same video. Thanks again, it was the cut-out sensor that went bad, but it also needed loads of cleaning that can only be done effectively by breaking the unit down. Now running like a brand new dryer.
By the way forgot to mention when looking for the replacement element....be careful they will charge up to $200.00 for the part. I found what I needed on Amazon $30.00 came overnight! Exact one! Saved me a ton of money with this video. Thank you again.
I was still overwhelmed when I started by repairs - thanks for giving me the confidence to persevere! I had an F31 error but it wasn't voltage, it was the heating element. This video was a real gift. Thanks for taking the time to make it!
THANK YOU!!! This video was absolutely perfect ! 👍 It happened to be my exact model, so after watching it I was able to attack the trouble shooting like a pro. Element didn’t have continuity, removed it, and sure enough it had a break in the coil. You saved me a bunch of money and hassle. Great work, keep the informative videos coming!
Thanks to this video, I was able to conquer a job I could not have done on my own. My dryer is exactly like the one in the video, and its heating element is not the simplest to replace. I had erroneously assumed the element would be accessible from the back of the dryer, so I started there and quickly realized I didn't know where to find the element. A quick Google search, and I was watching this video. Watched a little ... paused ... did the steps on my dryer ... returned to video, then repeated those steps until I was done. It was awesome to be able to definitively diagnose my bad element with a multimeter before actually installing the new one. I knew I had corrected the problem before I ever put it back together and had confidence it would produce heat when called upon to do so. I really appreciate the assistance that allowed me to do this myself and save probably hundreds of dollars. Thank you!
Thanks for the great video. Everything went so smooth thanks to you. Ended up being shorted wire on heating element (you can see where it shorted on the housing before it melted). I still checked all the electronics with the multimeter and they were fine. What a great instructor, keep up the good work!
Super great video. Easy to follow along- pause, do the step, come back and watch the next one. Tested all the electric pieces and turns out the problem was the two inches of lint buildup on the inside. Shop vac'ed it out and the dryer works great now!
Thanks for the video. I almost went ahead with getting a new heating element, but went back and followed checking each part and found that it was the heating cutoff switch, spent $25 and have heat again.
Thanks for posting this video. It was a lifesaver yesterday. Been having issues with the dryer leaving clothes wet and the "Check Vent" light on for a long time. Thought I had cleared all of the lint until I dismantled the front of the unit like you showed and found gobs of lint everywhere. Cleared it all out and afterwards the machine dried nicely, ran more quietly, stayed cooler all while the "Check Vent" light remaining off. Much appreciated!!!
A great video, each step truly helped. I got it apart and back together. I cleaned it out, checked the belts, and setting of drum. I hope this has stopped the loud screaming sound it made yesterday.
Dude thanks so much. I was about to buy a new dryer. Thanks to your video I bought a blown fuse for $20. Cleaned dryer works great now. You saved me $600
I never comment, but I need to this time. THANK YOU. Started fixing the dryer on my own and got stuck, was able to skip around to the part I needed. Dryer is up and running again. Thanks!
Thanks for the informative video. I live in a rural area where they charge me $85 just to come out. With your help I was able to find the problem and fix it for a $35 part and a few hours on my porch.
I want to thank you so much for making this video. I took my Maytag dryer apart and was able to test and replace the heating element. I love putting things together but never taking it apart and resembling. Again, great job on this video.
After entering my Whirlpool model number in APPros website, they show a stackable dryer and not the Cabrio model. Your video depicts the exact model (Cabrio) I have so I'm glad I found you. Wish I had the OEM part numbers out though. Great video Ben.
Just pulled the old dryer apart, came back to the computer to continue research before cleaning it up and replacing the heating element. THANK YOU. Gonna grab a multimeter and make sure I know what's wrong
Great guide! I decided to test my electrical first. I I was unable to test for 240v with my analog meter, so I used a digital one and found the outlet is working appropriately. I changed out the breakers though as they didn’t have the connector to switch off both breakers at the same time (maybe I could’ve bought the connector in hindsight?) I followed the whole guide in order. The thermistor wouldn’t read at all with my digital but it did with the analog reader. Ultimately, I found the heating element was bad, but also found that the idle pulley tension arm plus the belt needed to be replaced. It all took my about half a day and $80 in parts and cleaned out all the lent. The belt is awkward to get on like the video shows. When I turned it back on there was a slight burnt smell for about 5 min, seemed to be just from cleaning. Working again! It’s weird that my washing machine completely gave out about 2 weeks ago and now this.. I decided to get a new speed queen Tc5000 - not disappointed
Thanks for you help with the video I did exactly you show and only spend 20 dollars for fix my dryer The problem was the thermal fuse God bless you today and forever🙏
Excellent video! I was able to check all the stuff under the drum without taking the drum out. The drum can be propped up/in with a length of wood, and all the connections can easily be reached. I checked everything in your video, and after all that, it turned out one of the two breakers feeding the 220V had tripped...the one that the machine needs to heat the air...
Thank you so much for this video! Absolutely priceless, and you made it so easy to follow along. Our heating element grounded out, but without this video, I would have thrown the whole thing away over a $30 fix!
WOW!!! Extremely informative a true rare breed professional, My dryer all fixed in under an hour had to wait for FUSE of course which I ordered on Amazon for 6 bucks.THANK YOU so much!!!
Thanks a lot for this video this is the exact unit I have and my heating element went out. Your step by step instructions made it possible for me to order the part and save $400 on the installation and $60 on the part. Thanks again I look forward to viewing more of your videos.
Your instructional video was spot on. I replace the element and one of the sensors for about $200.00. The maintenance also gave me the opportunity to clean the unit and vent hose! Thank you!
Finally found the right video!!! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU so Much. My model number on my Whirlpool Cabrio is WED8900BC0 for those that are interested. If you are just trying to test and replace the Thermal Fuse then fast forward to 6:39 to learn how to take the front off. You don't have to disconnect the control panel on top to get to it. And you don't have to take the drum out to get to the fuse. Then fast forward to 11:20 to see how to test the fuse. If it is bad, then replace and enjoy dry clothes. Also have fun cleaning out all of the lint in there!
Thank you for the video! I was having a hard time figuring out how to get the top open with the clips. Thanks for all the time and effort you put into it.
Thank you for an easy to follow instructions to repair my Whirlpool Cabrio Dryer! You made things so easy, step by step. I knew I had to replace the heating element, but your video gave me so much more to check in case it was other items! Very much appreciated!
Fantastic video! Helped me fix my dryer when the heating element failed. I'm not very mechanically inclined but this video is a great walk through. Thank you so much!
Although mine is gas dryer, this was an extremely helpful video - THANK YOU 🙏🏼 Unbelievable how packed full of lint these things get! I’m sure my high temp sensor is bad because there’s evidence of a smoldering fire in mine yet it’s working with intermittent heat issue. I just can’t comprehend the fact I have to take that bulkhead apart to get to such a high maintenance component!
Sadly, many brands have gone to a more "Elegant" 1pc front that does away with any hope of a service access panel. Which is a shame because it'd be SO helpful on a unit like this.
thank you for the video, when i opened my dryer up, found that the smaller belt fell off and also the nut came loose. but i can see that my main belt would need to be replaced soon so this video helped just to know how to open it up and get to it. thanks again

Awesome homeowner video! Was able to quickly diagnose a bad heating element. Thanks for sharing the location of the tech data sheet under the control panel. I had to dig out my Robertson bits (square head) to get the console off. This is only the 2nd time I have run across that style screw. looking for manuals that’s not one the popped up. Interestingly, I got a diagnostic code F 31 which is not supposed to be a code for my model. Whirlpool refers you back to an L2 error. Thanks for the tip using a putty knife too. In the past I would have shoved a flathead screwdriver between the pieces. The putty knife slide right in and was long enough to depress the clip all the way.
Thanks. Found that the thermistor is bad. Glad I took it apart. I bought it in 2008 and the fan was packed with hardened lint. Should work much better now.
THANK YOU !!! Great video. You saved our money. Very much appreciated !!! I made one mistake putting back drum belt. It was upside down and drum was not spinning. Overall great video !
Thanks you are the man. I just replaced the heat element on this same machine. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you Also the lint that collected in this machine is ridiculous and I'm sure that's what kills this dryer more often than not.
Thank you for this in depth review- I was able to troubleshoot and diagnose down to a broken heating element - new parts on their way as we speak -$19.99 all in!
St. Anger was the first album I got excited for because I learned a ton of guitar solos and pieces from their earlier albums, and that was the first one they made when I learned guitar so... really tough because I am not a fan. But Death Magnetic? Totally redeemed them. Better than anything they did since Black for me.
Great video! But when I finally got into my Whirlpool Cabrio to change the thermal fuse .. that is nicely placed behind the lint box.. not real easy access. Anyway.. the clips on the thermal fuse don’t just pop off! Ugg! They are plastic and look like they clamp around the metal fuse pieces.. I can not get them to come off! How do I get them off!? I would really appreciate some help. Thank you!!
Excellent video Ben thanks, and perfect for my specific model, for cleaning vast amounts of lint if for nothing else. The video did not cover the crazy LOUD squealing noise while running that brought me to your video in the beginning so could you help me with that? thanks again, Joel
Thank you for the great video. It was perfect for my situation and helped me feel confident that I could and did replace my heating element in my Kenmore dryer. Kudos!!!
Ben, thank you for this video. I followed your excellent instructions. I pulled out the heating element which slid out. It was not the clam-shell design. I ordered the part based on the model number. They sent me the clam shell design heating element. The place insisted that this was the only heating element for this model. We both know this is wrong. I contacted Whirlpool and they gave me a part number which again showed the clam-shell design heating element. Aaaargh! Do you know where can I find the slide-in-slide-out heating element? The wife is getting testy!
Hey Ben, Thanks for the play by play, absolutely awesome. Since I have the whole dryer open to change the fuse should I just do a complete overhaul meaning changing all sensors and belts, or just leave well enough alone and deal with the bad sensor only?
question....the dryer is very powerful, yet the clothes are a bit damp even after 60 min. I have tried all the settings, cleaned the ducks and still ..... can you tell me something that i can do now ??? Thank you. super excellent info.
Great Video Tutorial!. I’ve tried every test in made in the video although it appears that my heating element is crossed but, I’m not sure if this has something to do with this: when I start my dryer y start kind of stuttering and then shuts off, and one time it did run full cycle.
Quick question Ben.. I posted a success story here 5 days ago, now the ‘check vent’ light comes on with automatic drying and the heat/dryer seems to drop to a lower temp - however, when using timed drying the check vent light stays off and the dryer/heat works great!? All vents are clear - dryer just thoroughly cleaned - no kinks or obstructions anywhere. Any thoughts or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Do you ever restring the heating element? Or have you ever done that? Does it save any money? I'm thinking about taking my electrical business and adding appliance repair. Your videos help a ton. Thanks man!
Time is money and outside of the Frigidaire kits and dryers I don't really. I know the string kits are $10 but real elements cost only a little more and are less accident prone. However we always keep a kit or two for emergencies just in case
One of the most methodical, incremental videos I've seen. Thank you!
Thank you so much, you saved me from buying a new dryer and taught me more than I would've ever known about dryers. You're awesome!
Thank you so much for helping guys like me have the confidence to attempt appliance repairs. You've been a blessing to my family and I! 🙏🙂

I agree. Perfect video. Fixed my dryer quickly and for $21! Thank you.
1 year later. Still amazing video. So clear, precise, not too fast, not too slow.

The most informative video I've seen. I fixed my dryer and it cost about $80 for the heating element ! very helpfull ! Thanks!

Probably the best appliance diy video I've seen

Thanks! The video helped me disassemble my dryer to troubleshoot a persistent “Check Vent” light.
Glad it helped!!
Thank you for the video! The thermal cutoff was my issue. Bought the element and all parts from Amazon and it had everything I needed and more.
I recycled the double breaker and it worked! No tools needed.. Amazing!!!!!!!
Fantastic video! Helped me fix my dryer when the heating element failed. I'm not very mechanically inclined but this video is a great walk through. Thank you so much!
Although mine is gas dryer, this was an extremely helpful video - THANK YOU 🙏🏼
Unbelievable how packed full of lint these things get! I’m sure my high temp sensor is bad because there’s evidence of a smoldering fire in mine yet it’s working with intermittent heat issue. (& a good thing it required attention before we had a full-blown fire!)
If cleaning alone doesn’t solve my problem I’m guessing it’s going to be the usual culprit, a bad gas igniter. I just can’t comprehend the fact I have to take that bulkhead apart to get to such a high maintenance component!
Sadly, many brands have gone to a more "Elegant" 1pc front that does away with any hope of a service access panel. Which is a shame because it'd be SO helpful on a unit like this.
thank you for the video, when i opened my dryer up, found that the smaller belt fell off and also the nut came loose. but i can see that my main belt would need to be replaced soon
so this video helped just to know how to open it up and get to it. thanks again
Awesome video !! Just saved me hundreds on a repair call! Bad design on Cabrio dryer with regards to lint build up within the unit - must clean out regularly
Thanks, it worked.. i was replacing the dryer belt
Every step was helpful
For removing the sensor plugs.. we had to use screw driver..
High quality video and step by step instructions. Exactly what i needed! Thank you.
Ben Thank you. I was able to replace the heating element thanks to your video.
Wow Ben did you save me alot of time!! Thank you for posting these videos to help do it yourselfers get the job done. So thankful
I'm so glad this helped you out!
Thanks. Found that the thermistor is bad. Glad I took it apart. I bought it in 2008 and the fan was packed with hardened lint. Should work much better now.
Great video! I stepped through the troubleshooting and found my heater element to be bad. It was an inexpensive repair.
Nice!
THANK YOU !!! Great video. You saved our money. Very much appreciated !!! I made one mistake putting back drum belt. It was upside down and drum was not spinning. Overall great video !
Thank you for the step by step guide. Helped me to fix my Kenmore dryer!
Thank you for this very informative video. Helped me change out the heating element and now everything is running smooth!!
Thanks you are the man.
I just replaced the heat element on this same machine. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you
Also the lint that collected in this machine is ridiculous and I'm sure that's what kills this dryer more often than not.
Great video! Great details on how to test components and their function in the dryer.👍
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you so much for this video!!! this is literally the greatest musical video ever!! help me solve my problems
This video just saved me a couple hundred! Thanks so much for taking the time to put it together.
This was the perfect video, had to clean out all the built up lint and replace the element. Thanks!!
Thank you for this in depth review- I was able to troubleshoot and diagnose down to a broken heating element - new parts on their way as we speak -$19.99 all in!
Perfect video guide! Repaired my dryer with for$13!
Thank you for this video! You do an excellent walk through. Saved me a bunch of money and added benefit I feel so much more confident! Yay!
Excellent info, disassembly. no fooling around. Good explanation of all components.
Thank you for this video. It guided me to be able to fix my dryer, and I was able to tell my wife “Not today new dryer.”
Sweet! Glad you could keep it running a little longer!
Brilliant video. Ben made drier troubleshooting very simple to understand, and I used my multimeter for the first time! 😄
Thank you so much. I'm picking up parts tomorrow. I'll let you know. Thanks again for the video. 😊
Thank you! This was super helpful, and I just ordered the parts I needed!
Great!
Thx so much! I have to repeatedly clean out my blower lint due to no air flow and decided to try myself instead of a $100 service call:)

Thank you!!
Thank you sooo much for this video !!!!! You saved me a new dryer 😊
Excellent video Ben thanks, and perfect for my specific model, for cleaning vast amounts of lint if for nothing else. The video did not cover the crazy LOUD squealing noise while running that brought me to your video in the beginning so could you help me with that?
thanks again, Joel
That's a common issue with those models - I'd look at the rollers and the belt. Also the wheels on it as well
Thank you so much for taking the time and educating us DIYs
Thank you for the great video. It was perfect for my situation and helped me feel confident that I could and did replace my heating element in my Kenmore dryer. Kudos!!!
Great video! Very helpful in troubleshooting my dryer. Thanks!!
Glad it helped!
Great info! I was able to swap the heating element no problem at all. Thank you for making this!
Glad it helped!
Thanks for the help I believe I fixed my problem which was a lot of lint on the inside that was even getting in the heating coil
Thank you for your wonderful informative video.
Very good helped me diagnosis and fix my dryer. great work
Wow Ben. Extremely informative. I don't even own this dryer or any like it, but I enjoyed the video!
Glad you enjoyed it!
detailed and informative video 👍..Great job sir !..Your truly a professional!
Great Video Tutorial!. I’ve tried every test in made in the video although it appears that my heating element is crossed but, I’m not sure if this has something to do with this: when I start my dryer y start kind of stuttering and then shuts off, and one time it did run full cycle.
thanks for your help. I was able to repair my dryer
Ben, thanks for great video tutorial. I fixed my dryer!
This video was so helpful. Any advice on getting rheumatoid arthritis wire/s off of the heating element? Mine seem stuck in place
Needle nose pliers. Clamp down then use the metal casing as leverage to.pivot them off
Very helpful for my dryer brand and model... thanks
Thanks!
outstanding video. you're a great teacher! thank you for this video!!!
Thank you so much! I fixed my dryer with your help!!
That was very helpful. Thank you for the good information
Fantaztik! Im fixing my cabrio next week
Very well done video. Thank you very much.
You can pull out the heating element shell case without removal of the dry tub. I can access and test the thermal fuse after remove the door.
@@bensappliancesandjunk cool. Thank you very much for your quick response! I will certainly keep that in mind.
