you are the only one out of about 5 videos that I have watched that showed me how to check the coils.
Oh my Jesus...your explanation of changing outlet source and assuring that 240 V was coming through to power the machine was right on point. Electric work was being done throughout the house that we did not think the fuse would be tripped. Once we flipped it...we had full power and the heating element lit up!
Thank you for this video. So helpful.
Thank you so much, I was ready to take the front off because I did not see a pilot light. Then I saw your video. 10 minutes, 15 dollars and it's hot again. Thank so much, you are an angel.
This is the best tutorial I’ve found online by far! Thank you for taking the time to explain in detail
I've watched 3 videos on repairing an electric dryer that doesn't heat. Yours was the most informative and well articulated. Thanks for posting.
Quincy Birwood gotta be saved...no gimmicks...no games
How ?

Thanks man. I watched the first couple minutes of your video and it helped greatly. I moved my dryer from upstairs, where it worked, to my basement and it wasn't heating. I checked my fuse box ( I have some old screw in fuses) and one was blown. You saved me a lot of time and probably money.
Thanks to this video, I was able to fix my dryer. This content is pure gold!
This is an absolutely priceless resource ! What a great guy.. thank you so much Reggie !
I need to chime in and thank you for your video, saved me money and I was able to diagnose our dryer on my own! Thanks a bunch my friend!
Thanks for the fuse suggestion; that was the issue after multiple tests! :)
Thanks for your help. My dryer was heating up at some settings and not others. I replaced the timer as you suggested and it worked. I had already replace everything else that was suggested as the most common problems, but it turned out that the timer was the issue. Thanks.
You were a bit unclear about how to check the overload sensor and the thermostat, but your continuity test on the heating coil was spot on. Mine had no continuity and when I took it out, one of the coils was broken. Thanks for the video!
You rock man! This just actually happened today and found one of the coils was broke.
Your video saved me money lol
Wow, great tutorial. My friends dryer runs but no heat. I thought it would be a large amount of work. Thanks so much!! We can do this ourselves with your help!!
Hey Kathy I have a GE dryer and mine runs without heat. There was a power outage in my area and I don't know if it caused my dryer to trip.
I was watching other videos but went straight to the issue. Thanks!!!
No problem 😊
Thank you so much for all that info. This was one of the most informative videos.
I can't find the video that's about checking the voltage from the wall with a mulitmeter.
Awesome ! I was able to repair mine, but it only dried for one cycle and stopped working again... Do you have any idea what it could be ? ( I replaced the 4 parts as advised) Would kinda suck to have to replace the whole thing ! :/
Very good video grasshopper keep them coming
Made the right choice in accessing this video. Conservational and covers it all in short time.
Thank you for the feed back! 🙏🏾
Mine was a faulty timer too, open circuit in the two big wires on the timer when in a heated position on the knob. Part number for timer was w10185982, but I removed the screws out the back and cleaned the contacts in the switch and fixed it for free saving me an $80 switch or buying a whole new dryer for $300+ which I had been considering. Whole process took under an hour with a lot of distractions. Thanks so much!
Penguin, did it heat up randomly before you fixed it? Mine is trying to drive me nuts!
Random heating is a symptom of a bad timer
Thanks.. I baught My dryer off craigslist. It stopped heating; opened it and found a bypassed fuse. The heat coil fried into 1000 pieces. Replaced both and the two safety thermostats. Thenbit wouldnt heat again; cleaned up terminals on the timer and it started heating.. Your comment helped me not waste time! Thank you!
Very informative video. I’m having an issue with my 2013 Maytag Bravos MEDEX700XL dryer. Suddenly stopped heating (only symptom). Tested in the timed dry option and the moisture sensing options and ran the diagnostic and no fault codes exist Popped off bottom toe plate, tested the continuity and resistance of the thermal fuse, exhaust thermistor, thermal cutoff, high limit thermostat, and the heating element. All are within tolerance and I’m using the service technician handbook that includes the dryer schematics to help trace the issue. The heater relay also engages when I switch the setting from no heat to heat so I know that is good. If all those are good I suspect maybe there is an open somewhere after the heater relay to the heater components. I haven’t fully disassembled the dryer since I have access to all the heating components via the toe plate. Like I said, only issue I’m having is heating so I haven’t tried looking in other areas. Any idea what else it could be? (Side note: I did just move into a new place and had to reinstall the 4 pin cable vice the 3 pin one i had to buy for use in my previous residence. I believe I hooked it up correctly since the dryer heater worked fine the past 4 days and now it isn’t.)
I have the same dryer with the same problem. What was the cause?
going to look at the rest of ur vids. ty for this one - I recently bought a stackable that worked 2 weeks and conked out. Washer fills but doesn't spin and dryer turns but no heat. Looks like I need tutorials...
So its either theromstat or heating element oe timimg switch
Thanks for the video. I've worked on dryers previously but needed a refresher. I've replaced thermal cutoff, high heat thermostat, cycling thermostat, thermal fuse and heating element. I've had my ducts professionally cleaned from the dryer to the exit of the house. It ran great for a load but now it will run but won't heat. I'm about to burn it in my backyard. Dryers aren't that hard yet I'm defeated.
My dryer ended up having a bad timer. At some point it got stuck in air dry only mode no matter what setting I turned the dial to. Except when I turned it to Air Dry Only setting it wouldn’t come on at all. That was my clue it was the timer. Replaced timer and it’s working like new. Just a thought. Good luck
You’re a damn genius!!! Half of my double breaker lost power so I reset breaker and now it’s working! I’d of never thought it would of been the power coming in! Hopefully it won’t trip again or I’ll know it’s something in the dryer. I’ll be subscribing to your page! Ty sir!
2 dryers later I found out I had to replace the breaker. Lost a beautiful 1990 extra large capacity Kenmore out of that deal.
Double pole breakers are common trip ,meaning both sides trip together, interrupting all power . If only one side looses power replace the breaker it is malfunctioning and unsafe!
I have a blown (lower) operating thermostat in my whirlpool electric dryer. I removed it and it has burn marks. The number on it reads 250-80 F. which I can't find unless they go by just "250".The other smaller fuse higher up was replaced a year ago. The element must be over 15 years old. Should I replace all three? I use the dryer a lot. I keep it lint free inside and out. Thank you. Also there may have been a little too much of a bend in the duct/vent causing overheat due to the cramped space. I'll have to pull the dryer away from the wall more.
My Whirlpool TEDX640PQ0 has continuity on all thermostats, heating element, and timer but the dryer runs but no heat. The vent was pretty dirty and I cleaned it but still no hear. Nothing appears broken on the coils but it could have burnt out from the lint in the vent. How do I pinpoint the exactly where the problem time or heater. Thanks you do a good job explaining things.
Thank you for posting these videos.
Thank you for watching and subscribing
awesome video. helped me fix my dryer. thanks!
You’re extremely helpful. I hope I can do this.
I hav a question.... I got a used dryer normal house hold plug on it I bring it home plug it in and no heat I take back panel off and can see the heat element start to light then shuts off but dryer keeps goin. Now do i hav a volt issue or get my sensor changed? Thankx for your time.
after watching your video I notice that one of the coil was broken does the heating element need to be replaced?
This Is The Answer I Was Looking For...Thanks Dude.. Vent Tube Was Packed
Great video!!! Thanks for the help. I believe it’s in my timer. You recommend a electrician for that?thanks again
Good video. It helped me fix my kenmore. Thanks 👍
Great!! Glad i could help
Thanks Boss, works like a charm now!

Hi Reggie. Thanks for the post. The heat in my dryer comes and goes. I have disconnected the dryer vent from the wall and the issue continues to happen. I have tested the thermostats, high limit cut off and heating element with a multimeter and everything is reading fine. However when i test the cycling thermostat on the prongs that the purple wires attach to (i understand this is for delicate heat setting) I do not receive a reading on the multimeter (or ohlms reading). I do get a good reading on the prongs for the red wires that attach to the Cycling Thermostat. Could the Cycling Thermostat be my problem (due to no reading from purple wire connections) even though we never use the delicate setting? Thanks for your time.
You have any videos on how to check the power source for a dryer
Great video Reggie. I'm planning diagnostics according to this and another video of yours. Lots of lint and moisture has been found in the exhaust so far. When dryer was tumbling and getting hot, clothes would as a rule need more than one cycle to dry. Typically when they neared being dry dryer would make an awful noise that I figured was too-much-heat related, and we would stop it and let it cool awhile and then run it again until the noise returned. Hard to describe the noise - but it sounded like something was wearing out, loudly. Do you have any ideas what this noise might be and how it might direct troubleshooting? Thank you!
Thank you Ben for viewing my videos. The noise depends on the type of dryer. Some dryers have rear hub bearings some have front tub bearings that can become worn overtime. Also could be your belt pulley or motor from the heavy moisture and Heat. You may also have a bunch of lint surrounding the motor. it has a sensor that turns off the motor if it overheats you might want to disassemble your dryer and clean it out because if your dryer vent had a clog you might have a lot of blowback lint inside the dryer
Cool. I appreciate it.
Reggie I have a kitchenaid dryer and replaced the fuse at the top the one that blows as a safety if dryer gets too hot. At the bottom I don't have a orange wire with the 2 red ones. Am I ok with just the 2 red. Everything is working fine now and hot. Thank you
Thank you ! Very informative and thorough video! I,m going to fix ours! John
Thx John!
Most helpful, thanks for posting this!
Thank you so much for your videos. I really can’t afford a technician at this point. I checked my heating coils and they were fine, I even checked my timer and it was beautiful. I checked that everything was putting out what it was supposed to (ohms) and what wasn’t supposed to wasn’t. I checked the voltage on the plug and it was like 2-5 volts short, could this be causing an issue? I emptied out the vents and cleaned everything out. The vertical vent did have build up but it still isn’t heating. The dryer runs, but it doesn’t heat. I’m so frustrated because I’ve been working on this for four hours and I’ve taken the backings off multiple times. Help!
I went back and googled what continuity meant and retested the high limit thermostat and I found that was the issue! I’m buying the part from a locally owned business tomorrow. Thanks for your help!
Can’t find your other video. My dryer is working but very low heat. Thanks
I have a Kenmore very similar to whirlpool. I replace the heating element because the coils actually got wet and broke. But it’s still not heating. I ordered a dryer fuse but I think based on your video it’s the thermostat that also need to order! Please advise
Another great video from you. Awesome and thank you.
Thanks man you made it very straight forward
No problem, thank you for watching
Dude! I've watch several videos and wasted my time. You by far were most helpful. Great video and thanks for posting.
Hello! I see a small spark when I turn on the machine near the back of the drum close to the grill of the heating element, then no heat for the rest of the cycle. What does this signify? Thank you
Thank you for the great videos! I checked out many. Replaced all common parts : timer, element and the four other fuses/thermostats... checked all with ohm meter. All parts are conducting properly. No blockages, everything is clean. Operates But No Heat... Also checked voltage on the wall plug and it is putting out properly. Any additional suggestions?
Did you ever get it fixed?
Did you ever get it fix ?
I have the sam issue with my dryer older maytag centennial. I've done the same steps as you. I can not get it to work, so I finally broke down and bought a new dryer
Also Reggie my power went out while I was at work. Do you think the power outage blew the thermal fuse out in the dryer?
Thank you for sharing this with us.
So I checked all the fuses, and thermostats and the heating element. They all tested good on the multimeter. I also checked the timer on high heat setting and that showed continuity as well, but dryer still doesn't get hot.
Thank you very much for your videos. I subscribed
We have an old Maytag dryer (model DE8200) that runs but won't heat up. On auto dry, the timer won't advance but it will on air fluff. 6 years ago we had the heating element replaced, used the dryer for 2 years after, then moved and put the dryer in a storage unit for 4 years--the apartment we were renting came with a washer and dryer so we didn't need ours--where it was exposed to hot and cold conditions. We moved again recently and the place we moved to is old and has a 3-prong outlet. We replaced the plug and tested both the outlet and the new plug with a multimeter and both are fine. I can't see how it could be the heating element given that we didn't use the dryer for very long after the heating element was replaced. Any ideas what the problem could be? Hubby was recently laid off so we have to fix the dryer ourselves--no money for a repairman (or woman, lol).
Haha, so the thermostat thing on the blower (I forget what it's called) had a loose wire. That was it. Loose wire. The dryer is working fine now. :D
Awesome video I'm just now checking my mom dryer I checked all fuses one was bad replaced it but still not working turns out the timer is bad but expensive but I didn't check the elements need to do that as well but love your videos thank you
Remember a fuse that blows is like a check engine light in a car usually means something else is going on
Hi Reggie~ what model/brand multimeter do you recommend? Also, thank you for posting this helpful video!
Most of my contemporaries would disagree but I have no loyalty to any brand of voltmeter I get the cheapest one I can buy, usually from Harbor Freight that has audio beep for a continuity test. For washer and dryer repair you only use voltage test for 240 lines and continuity test. If the voltmeter does temperature test that's just a bonus. LOL
Thanks Reggie
I have a question I have a dryer just like the one you showed in this video when I put clothes inside the dryer and press the button the dryer hesitates to spin most times it doesn’t work at all I would have to wait for a few and then try again I checked the belt everything is on track
You should have linked to the gets warm but not hot video. Couldn't find it.
Great video! Helped me a lot..
Very helpful video, thank you!!!
Well done Dude! Thanks!
When everything in the dryer checks out as good check the line voltages coming in. I went crazy trying to fix a "dryer runs but won't heat" problem that turned out to be a bad 240V 40A circuit breaker. One pole on the breaker would flip but it wasn't strong enough to make the whole breaker flip. A check of the line voltage to the dryer showed 124V on one leg and 30V on the other. Pulled out the breaker and saw a scorched label on the side of it. Replaced the breaker and the dryer works fine.
What place do you reccomend for replacement parts?
Awesome thanks so much man.
Thanks Bo!
Well done!
Thank you
I have a Amanda dryer and it takes 3 or 4 cycles to dry a load of clothes on more dry setting do you thimk yhe thermostat is the problem and great video? Thanks
Thanks for the help!
I appreciate your video, thanks
Your video was very informative. I do have a question, my dryer like most people was operational until it stop proving any heat. I tested all of the thermostats/fuse bar and heating elements, all of these components tested OK, continuity was present without any shorts at the heating element housing.
My dryer is a Kenmore and like exactly as the one in your video (with all the same component placement). I tested the mechanical timer pulling the connector off going and across A and C terminals for black and red wires. Reading for ohms was 0000, no OL reading.
I do not know what other steps to take in determining the problem. One thing I notice, when I turned the dry on, setting it to 40 minutes at the timer the dry operated OK with no heat, but when I set it to air dry it would not turn on. Hope you can provide some insight. Thanks
Still sound like a damaged timer, also check your voltage going into the dryer, you should be getting 240 volts together 120 volts separate. And rarely but does happen, motor centrifugal switch could be stuck which means you need to replace the motor
@@LeanOnYourRep Thanks, I will check on the items you mentioned.
Hello I have a GE dryer. I bough it in 2011. Last night when I dried my sweatshirt I noticed it was turning but not heating. I clean the filter before each use. Should I unplug it and clean it really good?
Looking for the video on whirlpool timer switch, did you ever get one done? Checked the heating element and thermostat, but they are all good.
Yes
ua-cam.com/video/O6Ogh3MPwRc/v-deo.html
After new thermal relay in, good to go, everything else tested out fine.
Awesome 💪🏾
The back of my whirpool dryer is tack welded on. Is the only way to access the heating element either by busting the welds or cutting the back off?
Great video.
Reggie, so with your help I discovered that my heating coils broke. But I have a concern for after I replace the heating coils. I put measured my outlet with my multimeter and it measured around 190 volts instead of 120 across just one side, and around 380 instead of 240 across both sides. That seems dangerously high. What's going on??? Could that be why my coils broke? Another strange thing is that the It's a 4-prong outlet, and when I measure across either hot line and neutral, I get the 190 volts, but when I measure across either hot line and ground, I get nothing. Does that mean that my ground isn't connected, and could that be the problem?
I would appreciate your thoughts on this.
Great videos by the way! They are very helpful and I greatly appreciate you taking the time to make them! Thanks!
It turns out the voltage issue was just a low battery in my multimeter. Phew!
If it wasn't an issue with the voltmeter then it would be time to call in an electrician. individually each hotline should be 120 volts each. And when you measure both hot together should equal 240v. When you test the neutral to the ground should show zero. Could be bad at the plug or bad at the circuit breaker
if it actually were the electricity and not the meter. wouldn't the home circuit breakers trip?
What about the fuse on the left bottom side? I was told that is a common part to go out when there is no heat.
I have watched both this video and Quick Fix: Dryer Takes Multiple Cycles to Dry clothing, and noticed that the vent was totally clogged with dust. I have never cleaned it out, as a matter of fact, I did not know that I needed to. I had already bought a new heating element so I replaced it but I cannot put the wire thingy's back on the want go. I feel like I am going to break it if I force it to hard. What should I do?
Thank you for the video..this helped me out!!
Reggie, we bought a used electric dryer that worked at the other place but not when we got it here. We had to change it from a 3 prong to a 4 prong. Looking for your video that deals with this, where can I find your other video and what is the name of it? Thank you for your help!
ua-cam.com/video/f1MVjgI63Tw/v-deo.html
Worked for me thanks!!
Can you do a video showing how to replace the first model regulator on the element? Mine has the second model and I’m not sure how to replace the newer model. Thanks!
Can you send me the link of the other video you have for the dryer not getting hot enough
Great video
So... Would this be the same as the kenmore 600 series energy saving technology drier? I have been watching tutorials all day and this by FAR is the most thorough and informative so far. I am trying to fix it myself instead of having some one else come do it. All the other videos only talked about it being the heating element. Nothing about the thermostat... My dad is an electrician so he is going to help me determine which one is the problem before I spend money on the wrong thing. Thank you so much. I am really hoping this is what the back of my drier looks like. Lol havent gotten back there yet. Lol
Keep me updated on your progress.
@@LeanOnYourRep It was the heating element, and thank you again for this video that showed me how to do it right!
I still have no heat. The dryer turns and spins. I ordered the heat element, thermostat, the cycle, and the thermal fuse. I have replaced all 4 parts. I am still getting cold air. I have a whirlpool WED5200VQ1 dryer. It is about 10 years old. Any suggestions?
Nowadays, you can get a whole heating kit for $35. On mine years ago, the 120v power legs, the red & black wires at the plug on the house was swapped & everything ran but no heat. I swapped them around & got heat.
Now, years later, mine stopped heating again & it was my thermostat. Most of these dryers are all the same for Heating Element Kits. Many our different though.
I'm watching this to make sure the heating element is supposed to cycle on & off. Which is common sense actually. I turned my dryer on & cold. Once i changed everything out, it took a minute or 2 before the element kicked back on, then it started cycling
Very helpful
Very helpful thank you for a well presentation my respects to you
Thanks Armando
Thanks this was the most helpful video to diagnose my dryer. The timer is bad
Glad to help!
Good video. Thanks!
Thank you so much for the video
No problem. Thank you for watching.
Great video 📹 👍
Awesome video.
awesome thanks
Anyone have a link to his video of testing the electrical system for voltage? I can't seem to find it
This is an informative video. I have an LG electric dryer. Its running but will not get hot. It will run cycle after cycle, but no heat. Hose is clear. Both thermostats have continuity as does the heating element. Its been -20 out side the last few days, any chance this is messing with things? My clothes are freezing cold in the dryer now that its not working. Any ideas? Thanks!
Timothy Shrader as a technician first thing I would do will be to check your power outlet. A dryer needs 240 volts to run the motor and the element. Your dryer might just get a 120 volt which is enough to just run the Motor and not the element. The cause of that to happen usually is a bad circuit breaker in your house. I don't have a video on that yet so search for a video that shows you how to check a 240-volt outlet with a multimeter. Second thing I would do is just check all the wiring going to the heating element and be sure none of it is burned out.
Thank you very much for the info. I reset the breaker and checked the outlet which is fine. Still running, just blowing cold air. Im not sure what else to do. I did just pull the vent pipe out while its running and I could see the heating element is not lit up...
Timothy Shrader did you check the outlet with a volt meter? If so, it's time to have a tech check it out.
All is good at the outlet. Ill get a tech out here. Thank you for your time.
So what was wrong? Maybe the lint holder was full?
