i really appreciate you and everyone else that takes the time and energy uploading these videos. Save us homeowners A LOT of headache and hassle
Glad I can help!
1 Take back off
2 bang part on floor
Dryer fixed, thanks Josh, awesome video! 👍
It worked of me
🤣
I've talked to many who've done their own repairs. I've watched multiple, multiple videos of pros doing repairs and walking us through it. This is the very first time ever where someone has shown the hitting trick of the thermistor to reset it.
Glad I could add something new for ya! ☺️
@@joshcobb4100I'm actually considering getting new friends! lol
Just wanted to say I appreciate this video. All the other videos I watched just sped through the process, but you explained everything fully. Turns out it was indeed my High Limit Thermostat after checking with the multimeter. I was about to order the piece until you showed that little trick. Saved me time and money. Thank you!
Glad I could help!
This video really helped me ..was about to go buy an whole new dryer or sensor kit..but I check the vent duct first like you said n Wala 😳 whole a*s bird net 🪺…cleaned the out and dryer back working n dying like new 🤗..NOTE: NO birds or baby bird eggs was harmed during this event 😂🤞🏾
😂😂
Love it! Good job!!
Same here. This guy is a blessing
Your video was more informative than any of the other videos i previously viewed. This video saved me money and time. Thank you so much for your content. 😊
Thank you for the video. I had taken apart my dryer and deduced the high temp thermostat as the issue with my voltage meter after I found and removed the clog. I just used your trick to pop it back in place and it works perfectly. Thank you for your professionalism!
Glad it helped!
I appreciate your video. I examined the polarity of all three fuses and found them to be intact. Taking advantage of the opportunity with the machine open, I inspected the internal ducting and discovered it was obstructed. After cleaning it and reassembling the dryer, it began heating up again. Interestingly, I had watched 6-7 videos prior to yours, and none of them mentioned checking the internal ducting. Thank you for sharing this valuable information.
Glad it helped!
Dude, you rock! I thought it was a joke to whack the limit switch for resetting, but it totally did the trick!!
I laughed out loud, dug that thing out of the trash and whacked it! PERFECT!
Thanks so much for this video. Got the maintenance/repair kit and replace the parts and dryer now fixed and running. Saved me a bunch of money for a service call or new dryer.
Very detailed, helpful information & Is greatly appreciated! pretty sure you're my new favorite appliance service tech UA-camr! Thanks again!
Im blushing! Thanks!!
Thank you Josh! I very much appreciate you taking the time to post this informative video which helped me out greatly. I bought a multimeter today and was able to diagnose and repair my Whirlpool dryer. My thermistor had tripped and after a few tries I was able to reset it. I removed about five handfuls of caked on lint from the trap, blower and vent which I am assuming was the cause. Hopefully the problem is solved but if not I now have the tools and knowledge to do further repairs if necessary. Liked and subscribed.
Thanks!!
Great information. I've worked on a lot of our dryers over the years, but had never thought about cleaning out the lint trap blower shut. Boy was it dirty, I bet that fixes why iit was taking extra time to dry.
Thanks.
This video helped I and my wife fix out dryer heating problem. You are amazing❤
Fantastic!
Thanks, Josh! I've made ever conceivable repair to my old dryer, but I would have never thought to clean the internal duct if I hadn't seen this. It was half blocked with lint, nails(?), wood chips, and other pieces of junk collected over the last 30-something years. It dries clothes a lot faster now.
Can't thank you enough! Had to swap in a spare dryer that never seems to dry that efficiently - took the left panel off and the lint pile was so big that it was blocking the exhaust hole. Brushed and vacuumed it all out, and it's like we have a brand new dryer!
Awesome!! Good job!! 👍🏻
Worked as stated. I took the fuse and slammed it a couple times for good measure and BAM a good connection. Threw it back on the dryer, it is now blowing hot air! Thank you, good sir!
Thank you very much Brother! Best repair video on the Internet!!!! The "trick" with the thermal fuse thing worked perfectly! I had already foolishly replaced about $100 dollars in parts with no luck. Smacked that switch on the pavement, the exact way you demonstrated and fixed! Thank you again Brother!
Heck yeah man! Good job!
Bro thank you so much. Saved me from calling into work. Looked everwhere to find the solution, and nothing. Thank you again!!
Thanks Josh, you saved the day. The thermal fuse was open so I slammed it a few times and fixed. Concerned why it tripped so Amazon has the entire package for $12 so hope it holds while im drying. So again, Thanks Mucho
Good Morning Josh. We had a used dryer for 13 years. Had to replace parts about 3 times, hi/low/and heating element. It's guys like you that make it easy to impress your loved ones to say Hey honey I fix the dryer and it works better than B4. Then she ask, can you fix the dishwasher ? NP we got UA-cam & a guy called Dr. Josh~~ thx bud this one helped a lot...
Saved me a ton, thanks!! To reset my thermistor, I taped it on a flexible metal ruler and then whacked it on a cast iron skillet. One try, bingo. All good now, cleaned out a pile of crud in the left collection area, prob the culprit. But all good and thanks for a no bs, straight to the goods video.
Josh...You saved my butt on a weekend. I reset the high limit switch exactly as you showed...fixed the dryer..THANKS
My cause was a 50% lint blockage at the base of the lint filter housing. Have to clean it more often!
Sweet!!! Good job!
You’re a genius thanks so much! Got the multimeter and did your whacking test on the thermistor and got connection and hot air again! 🙏
Yay!!
Thanks for this video. My Whirlpool dryer is almost identical to this one (LER8468PG1). Its been working like a beast for well over 20 years and stopped it just stopped heating. I've never done appliance repair but I've done computer repair and iPhone repair for many years so I'm looking forward to expanding my horizons with this.
Great video, was working on the same dryer today. Also had a tripped thermistor. Tenant still has to wait for the ducts to get cleaned but at least now I won't have to make them wait on a part as well. Handy reset trick.
Dryer heating element went on me again. This time shorted to the metal ducting and not just opened up. Replaced the coil and it still wouldn't heat. Followed this guide to test and found the high limit thermostat blew and was open. Handy tip for percussive maintenance. Dryer works fine now!
OMG you are a Life saver with your trick to reset the thermal fuse..dryer heating again, but im pretty sure my duct needs cleaning out toward the roof by the outlet, everything down by the dryer is good. going to et on the roof tomorrow and clean from the top.. THANK YOU
Awesome!!
Thank you so
much for explaining that so thoroughly!
You bet!
So im replacing all of these... i have 1 wire thats different on the high limit thermostat tho so im stuck and dint know what to do. Aside from that this has literally been the most helpful video i have come across.
You need a splitter for the bottom terminal of the high limit thermostat...that is where the wire goes. Might be easier to order just the part with it already attached....it's a wire that has to do with the auto dry setting if remember correctly. Here is a link to the correct high limit thermostat that you need a.co/d/gSW8w5I
Thank you just fixed my mom's dryer saving her a fortune.
Just hit that little piece against the floor a few times, recover continuity and voila, dryer fixed. Thanks mate!
Thank for this video. It really help me get my dryer back up and running. Amazing, thank you very much.
Man this dude is the TRUTH 💯💯💯💯💯 Following this video I was able to fix mine. Thank you
Thanks for sharing this I just tested switch saw it was bad threw it on the ground cleaned out lint put all together and works good now💯
This is one of those rare situations where smacking it to make it work actually works haha!
You are the best, thank you for helping
Happy to help!
Very nice video. I have similar dryer and it will spin and heat but it sometimes stops mid cycle (regardless of whether it's sensor or timed dry). If I hold the start button after it stops, it will spin, but without heat, so I think the motor is fine, something related to the heating. But then a little later, I can start it again and it will work for again with heat some more.
Great video illustration Thanks 😊
Man smacking the switch on the ground saved our dryer!!! Thanks so much!
Awesome!!
Hey guy I don't normally comment but your video was on point. Great job
Thanks buddy!!
Thank you Man. Very helpful. Appreciate it Bro. I never knew hit that thermistor on the floor trick I've changed these like 10 times.. you saved. There for use . I'm also a technician.. thank you..
Hell yeah man! Glad to help out!
worked perfect!!!! thank you so much sir!!!!
Loved this video , I only came to look because a friend of mine said that he changed the heating element and his dryer still wouldnt get hot .
Outstanding video! Thank you! New subscriber after this!
Thanks for pointing out the thermal fuse! It blew. Not sure why it got too hot, nothing else looks bad, the fan wasn't clogged, there was barely anything in the vent and there was good airflow. Also I noticed when you showed the back, there was more wiring to the other fuse on the heating element than mine has (only two wires connected, one to the fuse and the other to another component right below it) not sure if this is a problem or not?
Thank you so much for this video. I'm having an issue with the same dryer where it runs but does not heat up. I tested the fuses and all of them have continuity. I also checked the timer and it it looks to be working as well. Is there a way to check the heating element itself? I've actually bought a bunch of replacement parts, Element, fuses and motor, I just don't want to waste time replacing something that doesn't need to be replaced. If the drying is spinning and other wise running fine but with no heat is that usually 95% of the time a fuse or element?
Thumbs 👍 up man. Great tutorial.
That you for uploading. That fixed my dryer.
Came across your video when I was about to order the fuse. Smacked it to the ground and it worked 😅
It's the little things in life...am I right? 😅
Great video !!
Appreciate it much for your heart & Helping us Fellow individuals with troubleshooting our electric dryers of Whirlpools. Where do i purchase those 4 at & the drum roller with the rubber? Tyvm
Amazon or eBay my friend!
@@joshcobb4100 i did the trick & it heats up my dryer...phew... now kindly simple ask to order the drum rubber wheels from STOP shaking like a nutshell..😮
Hey josh I just started watching you love the videos question I'm new to appliance flipping
And I wanted to know if buying parts like thermal fuses and what not on Amazon is ok?? And will they last??
Thank you ❤
Very helpful! Thanks!
Thanks for the lesson.
Great video! Thorough. Thank you
Good video! Hope to get on it later today. Need a voltmeter first.
Harbor freight has them cheap, so does Walmart.
Not my model but glad I watched because youre trick to fix the fuse by whacking it worked perfectly and I was able to get the fix done the same day.
Dude you are awesome thank you for sharing your knowledge .
Do the 2 sensors on the right side have to be plugged in a certain way or does it not matter which terminal goes in which side?
That’s what I’m trying to find out
@@ignoredchain3134 I was told they could go either way but don’t quote me on that
It doesn’t matter with the sensor on top on the right side, the thermistor. The sensor on the bottom, sometimes has a couple of additional leads like an orange one, however, these are size fitted. The thick red wire coming from the top sensor goes on top of the bottom sensor and the thick red wire coming from the wiring harness from below goes on the bottom of that bottom sensor.
Should you be able to see the heating element illuminated if you’re running the dryer with the door open? (Holding door switch)
Thank you Sir!
I also cleaned the different exhaust areas and I'm now testing it.
Can you tell me what component you tested toward the left bottom? It would have been the one you had trouble pulling off the plastic leads. It has four leads altogether - two are vertically aligned and two are horizontally aligned. The vertical leads had continuity but the two horizontal leads with the plastic covering did not - maybe there shouldn't be. Can you tell what that it is and how to properly test it?
Thank you!!
That is a sensor for the auto dry setting...and the top leads are tested with continuity and the horizontal leads are tested with resistance which I always find them to be in the 7.18-ish range.
Great job
Thank you for the video. I have 1 question. I have the same dryer. It runs, but no heat. I confirmed the thermal fuses are all good. Except that 3 wire one you replaced at the element.
When i check continuity on the top and bottom leads, i get no beep. But if i touch the top prong and the un-used bottom prong on the left, it beeps. Would that be a element or the high limit thermostat?
Great video.
Just ordered both parts to fix an Estate dryer, and they are sold together as a kit.
Didn't know about the thermistor slap, so mebbe I can fix it, and tape it inside should I ever need one.
One question though, the new thermostat does not have a place for the smaller orange wire.
The old part has a separate small lug terminal for it.
What do I do with that wire?
The new part also includes a red/white jumper for connecting the other end of the thermostat to the element.
Thanks.
Awesome!
Received parts, followed instructions (cut an replaced a terminal per directions for that orange wire), installed, and reassembled.
Dryer now working.
Also cleaned out a bit of lint buildup in the vent and hose.
Hopefully, we’re good for awhile.
Thanks again!
Great tutorial. Appreciateit.
Throwing it on the ground worked for me thanks man
Excellent video, but one question: if the high limit therm on the bottom showed continuity, then why was it the problem? Wouldn't you expect to find it dead like the top one?
Do you have any suggestions if I've replaced the thermal fuse, cycling thermostat, thermal cut-off, and high-limit thermostat, but I'm still not getting heat?
I even had an electrician out who conformed it's not a fuse in the house's electrical box, nor is there a problem with the dryer outlet or power to the dryer.
What do you call the gray fuse on temp selector black wire? And should it have conductivity?
Thanx Josh!
Ty good informative video
Awesome video! Thanks for the info. I've replaced 4 sensor parts, cleaned it of any clogs, and replaced the heating element and my heating element still doesn't kick on. Any idea what else i may be missing?
Timer. Try forcing the timer knob to the left when running and see if the heat kicks on.
@@joshcobb4100my dryer just works on high heat. And it stops working when i start from 30 minutes (low heat)
nice work
On manual selection multimeter what ohms setting does the safety switch need to be tested on?
Mine is auto and I said it for continuity testing. If it’s open, meaning OL then it needs to be reset or replaced.
Good information but I still have an issue of my Whirlpool WED5200VQ1 not heating. I checked all the same things that you showed and they are all closed circuits. I even checked the Timer. I put it into a dry cycle and terminals going to the Element are closed. Then it is open when in the cool cycle. All the ducting is clear. Motor & fan spin. I don't know what else to check.
You are a good man!
Hi Josh,
My dryer keeps blowing out the heating element…
I have changed out the dryer heating element twice and replaced the thermostats and fuses. I also took apart the internal ductwork and cleaned it and cleaned the venting going outside.
The dryer works fine for about six months and then blows out the heating element again. What am I missing or why does that keep happening?
@Josh Cobb When I pulled off my dryer chute, the foam seal pretty much fell apart. I noticed that when you pulled this one off, it didn't look like it had one. Do I need to replace it?
I don't worry about replacing them....as long as regular maintenance is done it shouldn't be a problem.
Question I have the reverse where I’m setting the timer let’s say 60min but cloth are staying damp but if I set timer for let’s say 45min dries fine suggestions ? Thanks
What are the temperatures on low, med, high on a newer whirlpool gas dryer ?
hey, is the white wire (middle wire) supposed to be grounded from the terminal block?
@josh cobb Thanks for the video.
I measure my high limit thermo it has continuity but still no heat. I bypass this thermo then there is heat
Bought the new thermo and same issue
So what is wrong here ?
You have a new subscriber in me. Wow. Great vid. Could you do a video of quick walk through of the functions of the thermistor, low thermal, thermal fuse etc, and the difference between no heat in an electrical vs a gas dryer.
Thanks and sorry for the mouthful.
Thanks! I don’t actually work on gas appliances.
@Josh Cobb You're welcome.
Ahh! No worries still subscribed. Good content. Keep up the good work. Thanks for replying.
My problem is the dryer stops heating once it hits the "damp dry" (~25 minutes remaining). I don't have the damp dry sensor or a separate cycle. I start it off at 60 minutes, and gas cycles on/off maintaining good temp until it hits 25 minutes. Then flame shuts off, dryer keeps spinning and is ultimately cold by the time the 25 minutes finish. I've replace solenoids and igniter. Checked continuity on all sensors in the back and thermostat and everything checks out ok. Is there separate wiring I need to look at for the damp cycle?
You probably have a bad contact within the timer itself so when it is supposed to switch you over to a lower heat setting it just shuts off
Thank you !
My thermal fuse blew the other day and I installed the new fuse today. At 3:37 I took off the internal ducting to clean it and it was SEVERELY clogged where the blower motor is. However, when I took off the internal ducting, the foam rubber gasket up top where all those holes are came apart when I removed the duct. It was so brittle it just crumbled off and hardly any of the foam gasket remains. I reinstalled the internal ducting and dried a load of clothes and my dryer worked perfect. Should I worry about that gasket coming off or just forget about it??
Just plan on cleaning it out again in the next 6 months and you'll be good. Otherwise you can use some of the tin foil tape (ducting tape) to seal it back off. It's a pretty tight seal without it.
Thank you very much for the video my friend...... tks to you I am not sleeping on the sofa tonight
thanks my friend, wonderful diagnosis and well explained. i have an old sears Kenmore dryer that looks fairly similar to the one you're working on here. I was hoping that the problem was one of those components you mentioned here, but i don't believe it is. i even tried bypassing the thermal fuse, but nothing...the symptoms my dryer has is; it doesnt seem to get any power anywhere. not even the timer ticks like it used to even with the dryer off. what triggered my problem was a very clogged vent. i wondered why my cloths took so long to dry so i cleaned it out and within minutes, it worked 1000% better. only problem is; when i opened the door to remove the clothes, and put a new load in, it never came back on. was wondering if the quick change in temp from cleaning the vent may have overloaded the circuit somehow. is there any other fuse in these things? the problem really acts like a fuse problem, or else i just fried the circuit. any recommendations would be appreciated.
thanks again!
Check your door switch! It could have snapped off while swapping the loads.
@@joshcobb4100 yep, it was just that. one of the wires popped off the lead. thanks for the quick reply!
Thanks for taking the time and sharing, was able to salvage the thermoster.
Sweet!!
Thank you so much
Thanks!
Thank you!!! 😊
Thank you for the video! I live in Lisle, Illinois 60532. Any recommendations on repair men around me?? Thank you
Thank you Sir. Is there any reason why you didn’t check the continuity on the heating element
I probably did it off camera. You totally can tho, should measure about 9.5 - 10.5
@@joshcobb4100 thanks. Huge help. I checked the continuity (audible) on the heating element and that was it. One of the springs was broken. Saved me from buying a new dryer. Thank you for the content Sir.
I have a home with a vertical vent going to the roof. I pulled out the lint from the vertical vent and under the compartment underneath the dryer barrel but it still didn't function. I did replace the thermostat and checked the heating coils and they are not broken.
I guess I'll replace the other sensors. This dryer is under 2 years old. At least the parts are affordable.
Try running a load without it hooked up to the vent hose and see if it dries and heats correctly. This will tell you if you have a clog further on down the line in your house ventilation. I hook a leaf blower up to mine every three months or so, and blow it out.
Thank you thank you thank you for all the wisdom bravo saved me time and mula
Josh is BOSS
I wish someone would tell my wife this.....
The part where you hit the ground. I try to do mine but prong doesn’t beep but the flat piece made beep noise. Does that mean it reset? Thanks
Ok I’m having this same issue with the thermal cut off switch blew out again after replacing it.I have continuity on all fuses. except the one I mentioned the vents weren’t as bad cleaned out vents should I replace the thermal fuse?
I have continuity the timer and voltage on the outlet
If your thermal fuse keeps shorting out, you might check inside the front of the dryer all the wires that run along up to the motor and the heating element. It’s possible one of them has become corroded/bare and is touching ground blowing that fuse. Something is touching ground blowing that fuse. Check all your wires.
@@joshcobb4100 after looking at the heating element it’s totally burnt I think it’s overheating looking inside the dryer I see burnt spots by the ventilation?
If you replace the heating element buy the whole kit with all of the components, five pieces including the heating element and I'd replace all of it. Specifically make sure you replace the high limit thermostat which is the component on the heating element itself.
When the components test good (heating Element, High limit thermostat, thermistor, Thermal fuse, And timer) But for some reason the dryer still does not heat. That's when I give up and take the dryer to the scrap yard. What else could I be missing?
Is it a Samsung?
It’s the timer. Push the knob to the right and then to the left while testing and you will see the element kick on and back off. I see it all the time.
Thanks I fixed my dryer! Changed the heating element and reser the other thing.😅
Did you unplug it and plug it back in?
