EA is fully losing all their communities. No development at all when it comes to Star Wars, even FIFA has regressed so badly it’s laughable. Not a care for consumer satisfaction

The easiest way would be a clone wars missions with a story mode, online multiplayer csgo/valorant clone.
With Stormtrooper/bounty hunter/new republic/old republic/mandalorian dlc stories various clone skins. Gun skins. To make that extra recurring cash.
Especially with helldivers 2, they knew they have no chance in this gaming community that is changing
It's far more profitable to rehash a sports game every year with some minor tweaks than to pay Disney royalties and build a game from scratch.
Not if you make an extremely enjoyable game which has great replayability and has micro transactions and live service marketed properly.
Tens of millions if not more would buy a good Star Wars game and happily spend money on the game whereas at most a few million people will even play Apex Legends so your point is moot.

They make billions from madden alone with the ridiculous Ultima team mode. add in their fifa game along with barely ever updating the annual game mechanics because the super casual crowd that never watches or follows any gaming news will always eat it up.

@@Shocknfunk Yes and if you follow the FC community a very large proportion (30-40%) have quit the game or no longer buy their micro transactions because of how predatory and manipulative EA have been this year alone. Eventually the communities for both these games will figure out they are being had and the player base will fall off the face of a cliff. When that happens what do they do hmm?
If people are not heavily investing into these two game series alone that causes a huge drop in profit for EA and so they need another flagship game to pull the reigns.
Do you really think millions of people would refuse to buy an expansion pack on this FPS game for new characters and if this were only £5-10 they would make more profit from one season of live service than for almost the whole cycle of FC or Madden. Not to say this game would have had regular live service however there was rumoured to be potential multiplayer which means that they could have easily introduced a load of character skins and weapons which again most people would happily spend a few pounds or dollars here and there to use some of their favourite characters in a new star wars game.

Live service I kinda get with games such as Helldivers 2 being a big success, but open world? People have been complaining about the staleness of modern open world games nonstop for over half a decade.

A true Battlefront game not linked with EA’s version. Someone just needs to finish Free Radical’s game and release it. All we ever wanted.
The Original Battlefront games are better and True Canon especially with Battlefront 2 501st Journal just like they need to bring back The Clone Wars 2002, Bounty Hunter, The Force Unleashed 1 and 2 and others.
EA has shown an unparalleled amount of incompetence in the past couple of years, its actually insane.
Disney really screwed the pooch handing exclusivity of any sort to this company. They could've gone a million different directions but instead the most inept film company combined forces with the most inept game development company and presto, we have a dead IP.

@@bluemoondm8629 I want it to, how good or not the Rey film is doesn't matter to me as much as the fact that they're making one to begin with. I don't like the direction they're taking this franchise in.
The only thing I hope is good is the High Republic content we're getting, and the next episode to a new sequel trilogy. If the Rey film bridges the gap between episodes 9 and 10, maybe it could be good.
Games these days take longer to make but i get your point. We would have more games if Star Wars reached more companys than EA. Star wars outlaws shows other companys want to do Star Wars games. Which is mostly good.

Big AAA companies don't have a clue what gamers want. Their main concern is monetization, live service, whatever can bring in the most money on paper. Imagine if they put effort into making an excellent sequel to Republic Commando. That could do so much better than re-skinning any of their sports games and slapping a new name on it, or releasing a new season of skins for APEX, etc. They're clueless.
I hate that this happened, but sadly I could see it coming. Everything Star Wars (except the Star Wars Jedi games) has been a let down for a long time. With all the content in Star Wars, it should not be this hard to make content.

With how many people that are losing their jobs in the game industry how are people even going to want to make video games professionally if they know their jobs are not secure.
Luckily, Indie devs, and small independent game creators are actually doing better than theyve ever done before in history now. The past few years indie devs and small independent game creators have come a LONG WAY, and have been having great success, back in the day there would only be a few indie games that were relatively popular. Nowadays it feels half the most popular and successful games are indie games made by small independent creators. In the past few years, many of the most hyped and mainstream games were an India game, or new devs, new studio etc. not AAA basically.
Part of this is because AAA studios are failing, they got so caught up with licensing crap and maximizing profits that the games aren't as good anymore, and was only made worse by 2020 and the decline of the economy.
AND the industry is also getting better for indie devs just because the technology has come a LONG way, there is soo many tools and open source stuff and engines to use now, it is now sooo much more easier for a small creator to make a game that can rival a AAA game, not just in gameplay but graphics and physics too now. Then there is also AI development which can massively help them out a lot too. Indie devs do not need 1,000s and 1,000s and 1,000s of employees to compete with a AAA studio anymore, and the consumers are craving for new things and more willing to try out stuff for small creators. Especially with the stagnation of triple AAA games. Which only serves to help new smaller devs more.
People have been talking about this for a few years now, that soon independent small game creators & indie creators will start taking over the market until AAA studios get their stuff in check........I think these massive layoffs in the gaming Industry is going to result in these SUPER talented AAA developers (who were probably held back by AAA studios because of corporate crap and dumb deadlines etc.) to start flocking en masse to these smaller game creators & indie devs, where their full potential can FINALLY be used, and they can be creative and do things outside of the box for once. Instead of being held back by corporate bullcrao.
So once again, another it's win for indie devs and the game industry, even though it FEELS like we've taken a step back (and we have), sometimes you *_need_* to take a couple steps back to be able move forwards. I think that's where the game industry is at now. I could be wrong, but I think these massive layoffs will create a MASSIVE surge of experienced developers moving to the indie game space, where we will see a huge surge of new mainstream games series from smaller creators. Hopefully their success will convince triple AAA devs to fix their problems. As much as this sucks, I'm ready for new game series, by new devs, new teams, new publishers. I remember as a kid, in the 2000s, it was the decade that most mainstream game series began, or became popular, the 1st assassins Creed, Halo, 1st Call of Duty, the first Battlefields, the beginning of mainstream sports games, the beginning of 3D grand theft auto - when it became the mainstream series we know today, the first uncharted, metal gear solid, half life, the first Spiderman games, Wolfenstein, Fallout, Elder Scrolls, Rainbow Six, Tom Clancy, heck even star wars games, KOTOR, the Battlefront games, Force Unleashed etc. etc.
All these mainstream series started in the 2000s, and went on too become dominant games in the next decade.
But when was the last time we had so many great games release so soon, that eventually went on to become mainline mainstream series for the next decade? Well, it seems it was the 2000s, and the first couple years of the 2010s. I feel like the last 10 years there hasn't really been much of anything new that went on to become a major mainstream series for the next 10 or so years, with only a few exceptions. For the past 10 years it has only been sequel after sequel after sequel, reboot after reboot after reboot, remaster after remaster after remaster. There's been a huge lack of new games that go on to become "the next call of duty, the next battlefield, the next GTA, the next fallout, the next elder scrolls, the next Kotor, the next Halo, the next assassins creed etc.etc." instead of anything new it's just the same stuff over and over again that has stagnated and not done anything new or revolutionary and hardly improved, often times gone backwards. Like in the 2000s, you could randomly pick any new game that came out, and there was a 9/10 chance it became a mainstream series over the next 10 years. But in the 2010s, there wasn't as many new games, at least not many new games that were revolutionary or changed the industry like in the 2000s, and odds are, if you randomly picked a new game or new title from the 2010s, there's a 9/10 chance it failed or never had a sequel and never became a a mainline series.
@@nicklibby3784I can't read all that but I think I got the basic idea. Sure you can have indie devs but striking it rich as an indie game dev is few and far between. Also there is so many things you would need to know, not just one niche like an environment artist.
There is no guaranteed money or benefits as an indie artist like a 9 to 5 job, if you have a family that depends on you to provide you just can't spend all day working on a project that may or may not pay off. You need job security. All these AAA studios laying off people constantly is going to bite them in the butt when people just stop wanting to work in that industry and move into safer avenues for work.
At this point it’s just gonna be remakes of old starwars games and whatever starwars Fortnite is gonna keep doing.

EA always disappoints. Regarding the Sims they're adding a "Shop" feature that will blink during the game so you'll remember to buy all the million game packs. They will do anything to get just a bit more money
The people that make the decisions in these corporate entities don't seem think AT ALL about, "hmm what would the fans of star wars [or insert other franchise] really love? Let's build that and keep our word about it! Also who can we get to work on these projects that have good vision and understand the franchise and treat them well?"
Instead they seem to think "hmm how little content can we give, that these customers (not people, but ultimately NUMBERS) will tolerate while we still extract as money from them as possible? Also, in order to gain favor and investments from ESG and other investors, be sure to groom in as much woke and political garbage agenda under the disguise of being inclusive!" (This is called having the fleece pulled over our eyes folks. Classic Emperor Palpatine move.)
The gaming industry (and all of the "Franchises that influence young people" for that matter) are more and more ruined by corporatization and self-appointed agencies that want to have influence in everything. There are alot of people that create and do the honest work, but ultimately they are just being used as pawns by the higher ups.
The funniest part is that the first battlefront and squadrons don't even count cause there both half a fucking game

@Star Wars Theory. Idk if you have done this but you should do a full breakdown of 1-9 including shows and movies and how to tie together certain plotholes or adjust the story. would give you alot of room to work with in 7-9
I'm still waiting and shocked we haven't got a modern singleplayer Star Wars game on a Sith protagonist or a Bounty Hunter. Hell even a Baldur's gate RPG choose your adventure type game would be awesome. Damn 😞
For me just make force unleashed 3 main campaign make it about 15 hours. Also if they want multiplayer just make a mode like the Wii version

@Shocknfunk I follow gaming pretty closely and people are pretty excited. Everything we've seen so far looks amazing and insanely impressive. Tho the only caveat is it is ubisoft which is fair but that doesn't mean you should write off a potentially great starwars game. The manfo gamed seemed cool but a truly openwork starwars game like outlaws I'd what I really want.

The company I work for is also having some layoffs this year. 2024 might be a rough year for a lot of people losing their jobs. Sucks.
Might be? Will be, already is. In these past two months alone we've broken the lay off record last year, in just the tech industry itself. We're priming up to be the year of lay-offs as companies get rid of all of their extra pndemic hirings despite making record profits every year since then. Even the warehouse I worked at just closed down. Doesn't help that the video gaming industry continues to sink and stink. I just hope there's a silver lining, a rebound to come in the coming years.

I would rather have an online multiplayer Mandalorian game where I can fully customize my Mandalorian, create my own creed and clan, and battle other Mandalorian clans that more Jedi games.
I want more jedi games but we do need a break and to have something fresh we have only had 1 mandalorian gsme ever and its super arcadey and oldschool a modern mandalorian game and yes with customization would be the best

I really hope another developer takes a shot at a “battlefront like” game, something like it but with more characters more guns, and more maps. Another option could be a bounty hunter game, (like the one that was canceled) where every player has a bounty on their head and every player has a bounty to hunt, and it changes every day or something. This is just a concept idea that I thought would be really cool, like everybody is being hunted by real players while hunting other real players.
Embracer sold Saber, so KOTOR is in a better direction as well.

I bought madden 24, my first madden game since 05. They’ve removed so many core features of the game it’s not even fun. Once you play a few games, you’ve done everything you already could have. You can’t create anything now, only play with what they give you, and that gets old fast

I wonder if there’s less profit on video games now, potentially even less players on a weekly basis? (AKA, not as many kids playing every day, and the kids from 10-20yr ago-now adults-only play 1-2x per month.) Nowadays the biggest games are cross-platform, sometimes free, and focus on online multiplayer… I think that’s much harder to make a profit compared to the $60 PS3 games or $40 PS2 games and more reliance on consoles over PCs and smartphone gaming.
You mentioned SWGOH : Star Wars Galaxy of Heroes. That is actually the biggest and most profitable Star Wars game ever. The community has been playing that game now for 8 years consistently. It has been a massive success.

I have a feeling that the SAG Strikes earlier have had a knock-on effect to the video gaming industry and not just film and TV industry.
We needed a Star Wars live service main PC game, not mobile games like GoH which is cash grab pay2win and SW Hunters which could be good but sadly dont reach up imo.
Single player games are good and all but we need a hybrid between FPS combat and lightsaber dueling with RPG elements.

It just makes me mad when I can easily say if they were still working on battlefront 2, EA would be printing money but no had to go with battlefield instead :/ ridiculous
Dude, I loved Republic commando. If they wanted to make a sequel to that or just remaster that I would play the crap of that. The literal only downside to Republic commando is that it didn’t have a co-op story mode.
I have not checked any data but I am sure that EA Sports games (FIFA, Madden, MLB, etc), The Sims, and maybe even Need for Speed are more profitable for EA than any Star Wars game. Unfortunately for us Star Wars fans, these studios work for their investors, and that means that even if they made a shit-ton of money last year the only thing that they are going to consider a success are the kind of games that generate constant revenue at the end of the quarter, which is unlikely to be a story-driven Star Wars game
The positive side, as some have already said, is that EA won't have lock/control of another Star Wars game
They should give the rights to making the Star Wars videogames to the company that made God of War series. That would be so cool!
They should let any company use it like in the olden days

I was EXTREMELY EXCITED about the Mandalorian game and I'm not even a star wars fan, at all! I just loved the concept and knew Respawn was heading it so i felt we would get something awesome. Now theres only disappointment and sadness.

I know it’s on EA, but Star Wars makes too many announcements and cancellations in general. I thought Skeleton Crew was cancelled a long time ago bc of all the shake ups

Honestly its only crime is probably being too early in development. It was probably one of the easiest projects to cut financially for them. Also Star Wars is probably trying to distance itself from EA at this point, they seem to have their own plans on breaking into the gaming market more thoroughly. Don't have faith they'll do any better but we'll see I guess.

As a huge Swtor Fan i was always hopeing for a new cool looking Star Wars Mmo in that style. It really has everything Story and Multiplayer content.

I don't understand EA when it comes to star wars games. They think that if we get this game, they won't make money off of it. Because they are used to microtransactions, like battlefront 2. Till Disney put their foot down and tell them to change it or the deal is off. Glad they did, or battlefront 2 would've been dead since launch day. But the fact they keep canceling star wars game is beyond me. Like what is the reason? Not talking about the one that just got canceled, I'm talking about the past projects. Like why they keep canceling it, what is the deal?
I’m honestly happy this happened. Hear me out, everyone is talking about how Star Wars is failing. This can eventually some other developer will come around and finally make a solid Star Wars game. It will make money and they will eventually have that “damn we should’ve been better” moment internally. And the fans will be saying out loud.

Just make a Mandalorian Wars game where we could see Revan, Zayne Carrick, Mandalore the Ultimate and others, just like make a Yuuzhan Vong War game, a Tales of the Jedi game showing Ulic Qel-Droma, Exar Kun and Nomi Sunrider, Legacy game with Cade Skywalker and others.
