ELON MUSK IS BUYING DISNEY AND STAR WARS? - My Thoughts

- Опубліковано 7 лют 2024
- It seems Elon Musk is trying to acquire Disney and all of their IP including Star Wars. I would be quite happy if this happened as I feel he'd leave the people who know the brand the best (dave filoni, jon favreau) in charge to run it without anyone meddling, like disney and Hollywood.

They need to have Sam Witwer in a high position. He's a walking Star Wars Bible.
THIS!!! MAKE IT SO!!!

@@Isaac_5.56x45 um no
Sam Witwer, should OWN Star Wars, instead!!!🤣🤣🤣
If you've come to the comments first because you were unsure about the video's title then you have made the right move. Musk has mentioned an interest in buying Disney, but the likelihood of that happening is slimmer than a stand of hair.
It's not impossible, he just needs a group of allies like Nelson Peltz to hold a majority of shares. It won't be like Twitter where they took it private most likely but it won't be impossible at all, especially if he puts $40 billion into it
@@gentronseven First of all Disney is not going to sell it to Elon. Elon has threatened to buy Disney, but this will lead to a war of insults.
@jarvis2945 Disney is a publicly traded company, they can't choose who they do or don't sell to.
@@gentronseven Your right Disney is a publicly traded company. However, they are not selling it to Elon or Peltz. Elon has said he would buy Coca-Cola and Fortnite. Nothing happened. It's all bark and no bite.
Yep, especially with the whole mess around his Tesla payout that's going on right now, there's no chance he's buying it.

I mean there’s not a whole lot to talk about theory wise, unless you go back in other timelines. But I get it, Star Wars hasn’t been very exciting lately so he’s not too motivated. He’s more excited about his current endeavors, good for him. I hope SW gets more exciting!

I definitely agree that star wars needs a leadership change but I also think that Elon Musk is on the very short list of people that would actually do a worse job then the current leadership.
When it comes to managing Star Wars most people would do a better job by simply not making the bad decisions that have been made in the past and Elon Musk is the King of bad decisions.
With Twitter being the first company where he was able to make all of the decisions himself and how many terrible choices he made that lead to the current state of that horrible website somehow getting as bad as it is now you can only imagine how badly he would fuck up Disney/Star Wars.
Star Wars definitely needs a leadership change but Musk would be one of the worst candidates possible.
Also I don't think he could afford to buy them as easily as everyone makes it sound, twitter already cost him a LOT of money and that was only 44B compared to the around 200B Disney would be worth and even for the richest man in the world spending that much money on a single company would not be as easy as taking out a loan or 2. He probably could theoretically buy them if he really wanted to but it would cost him way more then everyone makes it sound.
Also also, Disney would need to be willing to sell to him + all of the different regulatory boards in way to many different countries would need to agree on that deal and I just don't see that happening.
Elon Musk is the Kaiser of the Empire of Bad Decisions.
I think he would be pretty good; if he was all about bad decisions, how did he get where he is today?
If he fires kennedy, he's my hero.
Last time Elon made that emoji face, he bought twitter.
He was forced to buy Twitter in the end as his mouth got him into a bind he couldn't back out of. And has since driven it into the ground. He may be the go to crush for the other side of the oddball woke culture wars, but he knows f*ck all about making movies. Star Wars needs change, and that includes getting rid of Kennedy as well as keeping Filoni away from live action.
@@Podemeisterhe doesn’t have to know anything about making movies. What he CAN do and probably WILL do is hire competent writers, directors, actors, producers and everyone else needed to create art again. He understands that Disney is crumbling and if anything he wants to save it out of compassion for the people who have loved the company for years, but hate the way it is going. He’s not oblivious and doesn’t live life with rose tinted glasses like some people do. Yes, he’ll get money from it everyone knows that but I’d rather have him take the reins than have Bob Iger continue to drive one of the biggest companies on the planet into the ground.

I just downloaded "X" and it's literally all porn and fight videos, I deleted a few hours later. Not because Musk, but he would do good.
First off I think he was having a little fun, because I don't think for one minute he's going to buy Disney; I think he's going to invest in Peltz to buy Disney by becoming a major shareholder, allowing the balance of power to swing away from Blackrock and Vanguard.
Yeah, he can't invest in anything. He'd be killing Tesla to do it

Disney’s market cap is $202 billion! And his last purchase has lost at least 60% of its value.
He has neither the resources, nor the available leverage to pull off such a purchase.
If Disney and it’s many shareholders wanted to be purchased, they would need to be looking at Apple, Google, Amazon, Microsoft or Meta, as those are the only companies big enough without breaking it into smaller pieces.
Whoever said it would just be Elon Musk buying it? It wasn't just Elon Musk who bought twitter.
Company values are often highly inflated, especially in tech. What's there to say it isn't just a more honest market value that "brought it down"? Could anyone more savvy about this stuff chime in here? Because for all we know the actual company value if being honest might have been lower than it is now. There are loads of tech and internet companies that overinflate their value for their own benefit.
I'm not saying it's true in this case, just that we should rule that out before jumping to the conclusion that the actual value dropped so steeply. This stuff gets complicated when you get into the nitty gritty.
Breaking the company into smaller pieces is a good thing. Honestly Disney is too big and just a monopoly at this point. Breaking the company down into smaller parts would keep them in check. It’s also produced utter shit for quite a while now on multiple fronts, not just Star Wars
He doesn't need to buy the "whole" company at market price to get control! All he needs is a small group to buy 5% of the company and he could do that quite easily without any government oversight then make a play for board seats.
it's 140 billion. Elon has the money if he wants too
Disney even dropped the ball with battlefront…. Takes a lot of talent to do that.
The funniest thing is that you can expect Elon to buy Disney, fire everyone and hire youtubers like theory to write the next trilogy.
It actually sounds reasonable. 😅
It sounds stupid but with Elon, it might actually happen, so I'm holding fingers that the next film has Nia's name on it.
I find it far more likely he’d just run it according to the whims of loud mouthed Twitter trolls with check marks. “Too many lightsaber colours is wokeism!”, etc. Oh well, as long as he doesn’t buy Star Trek.
I don’t want Theory writing Star Wars movies lol. He’d be a great option as a consultant for the story group, but he has no professional writing experience. Pretty sure he’d agree with me.
@@russellmxnia Yea maybe if he made his own IP, I would trust him more. Personally wish he didn't\doesn't do the Vader movies and just focused on making his own things but he's too big of a Star Wars fan to do that. He has the creativity there for sure tho, direction? idk..

Wipe the sequel trilogy, and make Legends canon. Luke needs redeemed. Show Mara Jade, Jaina and Jacen, the Vong, Palpatine in Dark Empire, Abeloth and so many others. Let's see Luke as he should be and was in the books.
It’s cute that you put any kinda faith in that man.

@@tommoore2012 He bought Twitter for $44 billion and the value has gone down 72%. Tesla is down over $100 billion. Disney is at $200 billion on the market. You have no clue what you are talking about if you think Elon can buy Disney. To get enough shares to have any control he'd have to pay over market value. Current shareholders aren't going to agree to sell otherwise.
While it would help, a new owner isn't going to fix Disney and StarWars. That would require replacing almost everyone involved to remove those more interested in pushing the narrative rather than telling a good story.
Maybe it would take him dumping 80% of Disney staff? they deserve 99% in my books. Just an old salty fan though.
Disney would take years to recover but I think Disney as a whole needs to be moved from California and start fresh elsewhere. As well fire most of the workforce and actors that's overpaid.

If you look at the current board members of Disney, none of them have served more than 5 years which is ironically the same window Disney has been in this slump in quality. To me it seems these people don’t really care about the product and are only there to collect a paycheck for as long as they can and add the Disney name to their résumé. If there’s a chance for new leadership I’d take that over what we currently have.
Its been found that the companys Vanguard Group and BlackRock are responsible for ruining a lot of media including video games. I suggest going down the rabbit hole because it is legit.
Might be deeper than money, Star Wars is a cultural symbol at this point and destroying it does wonders for demoralization. Certain folks want the west to die.
Most of the board members don't have shares in Disney so it not in their interest to keep the company running smoothly and solvent they are just there to collect their boardroom paycheck.
Disney has set the bar so low that literally anyone could do better with their IP. Even aside from Star Wars. For case-in-point see how they retooled their Snow White film after they saw what Daily Wire was going to put out. Even THEY know it.
Burning 25 billion on Twitter, is strong argument for petulent Musk being able to do so much worse. And like the lazy writers on the sequel trilogy, Musk is one to blame everyone, but himself for his own mistakes.

Ignoring the fact that there’s a 0% chance he acquires disney, why would you think he cares that much about Star Wars lol he would not be making decisions about what is and isn’t canon
This could go so many ways, we'll just have to wait and see.
I think the reason Disney has gotten to this stage is that it has employed and promoted to leadership, ideologues who only want to promote their agendas, not make art. Elon actually cares about the culture war, and his moves aren't really based on spite or revenge. He IS a business man after all, and making decisions like that just wouldn't be in line with his past business behavior. I think these ideologue writers of these articles are simply in-line with Disney's message, and will do anything to slander the possibility of Elon's acquisition. All of this is par for the course regarding most of our cultural institutions now.
The science in Star Wars would make sense 😂
The only science Elon is good at is marketing
Elon is not a real scientist. But he is good at tricking people into thinking he is.
Enough of the clickbait, please.
If Elon was to go through and purchase shares in Disney he doesn't NEED to buy the whole company outright to get control of Disney. All he would need top do would be to buy enough shares to get a controlling interest, so, he gets a seat on the board, then get competent people in to run the company and then start the huge axing process in Disney, of those who are not doing a good job. Starting with like KrayKray, Pixar, Kevin Feige and get people like Ike Permutter, John Lasseter and Peltz back in if they would, he needs to clean out most of the rot like he did in "Twitter/X" and Disney would then be in a good position to start making Disney profitable again. The "Twitter/X" takeover will look like a walk in the park compared to this. The best thing about this scenario is that while KrayKray was information over Iger to keep her job there is no such case with Musk, if he makes a play for Disney expect her to suddenly resign - otherwise he could destroy her legacy completely as he is not beholden to the left-wing lunacy that so infects Hollywood. The thing is Musk will be crucified by the left wing media but seeing as he bought "Twitter/X" he stopped a lot of that rot as well.
grass is always greener...
It can either really good or really bad. I'm down for a change.
If he bought disney, i would just hope he doesn't go political JUST like he did with twitter. He turned all conservative.. i just hate both sides of politics and it obviously doesn't belong in anything disney or movies/tvshows in general tbh lol. I watch to escape ALL of that!
Yup!!! Couldn't agree more!!!
How did he turn it conservative?
Dude Elon would do star wars Justice
I think he want Disney just so he can give star-wars names to all his starships without having to pay the rights
The worst things that Disney did weren't their crappy live action tv movies and the sequels...
But canceling the clone wars and deleting the expanded universe, then to latter leach of what remained of them (rebels, batch or tales) to gives a half decent product, still we lost so many storylines from those canceled projects and everything hast to be retconned.. like Ventress's death is like the 3rd time that got changed
Hope Elon cleans House like he did with Twitter, he might be chaotic but at least the new hires can tell stories instead of THE MESSAGE... maybe star wars toys can return to be the king of the toystore... also we need more star wars games... Revenge of the sith gave us more good games than the entire sequel trilogy and D+ shows
Yep the decanonization of the Darth Plageuis Novel (and subsequent canonization of the comic that says Sidious created Anakin, which is heresey considering only Plageuis mastered life and death) was there second biggest mistake. The first being what they did to Luke's character.
"No, that's not true. That's impossible"
"Search your feelings, you know it to be true!"
(I got mixed feelings about this too. Just fyi lol)
Seems like he would just be a different flavor of a charley foxtrot. Although, it would be nice for the sequels to be redone and actually make sense with the original Star Wars.
I don't think he would be doing it for what's best for Star Wars. This is probably more about him. He seems more emperor than Luke Skywalker.
If he is a serious fan who really wants what's best for Star Wars he can support some of the fan stories that need funding. Prove he is interested in supporting good Star Wars stories and if disney get's in the way the fans would be with him.

In my personal opinion, from what little I've seen, Elon Musk is not the person to be looking up to. He's just another rich bastard lobbying for power.
One of the major ingredients missing in Star Wars now is the willingness to be bold to show people something they've never seen before. George always wanted to show audiences something new. He would have to sale all of his stocks in Tesla, X/Twitter, sale off Space X and the Boring Company ($160 billion total) and still need to find $40 billion just to get to the market value of Disney. And Disney isn't being sold at market value, so he would probably need to come up with $300 billion. It's just not happening.
These people don't buy companies with cash, they tale out loans. And his companies are more than enough to get a loan for enough to buy disney.
@Hard2Flash They don't finance the entire amount. Musk had to sell $7 billion in Tesla stock just to buy Twitter. And with that he gets to make a billion dollar payment every year to the banks just for the interest (and Twitter/X's revenue won't even cover that). And once again, Musk's total worth with all of his companies is about the same as Disney. And none of the major shareholders that own Disney (Vanguard, BlackRock, State Street, Warren Buffett/Berkshire Hathaway) would ever consider selling at current market rate because they understand the long term profits from Disney would exceed whatever package Musk could come up with. And they are in the business of making long-term money for our retirement funds. Musk doesn't have any cash for that. He would have to sell his other companies. Now you want to know who is really rich and could be a player? Warren Buffet has a record $157 billion in cash and liquid assets.
Rooting for Elon Musk is like watching A New Hope and hoping that Luke's torpedo misses.
Glory to the Empire then
Far be it from me to stop someone from doing something incredibly stupid.
If that is the case perhaps he'll follow his Twitter/X model and get rid of a lot of the "dead wood" !
If he gets Star Wars his first project will definitely be episode 10 since he loves the letter X so much
I think Elon would experience an even greater culture clash than when he bought Twitter. High profile creatives and actors would quit or undermine his decisions, the company would get so much negative media coverage and he'd get blamed for longstanding gripes about animators not getting paid appropriately. It's probably not worth the headaches.
Yeah musk is...... not really a smart guy tbh. He's not even good with employees. Not to mention with how much Musk owns and how much he pisses everyone off.... Musk buying Disney might be the final push to break out the monopoly buster.
@@bananarama1425coming from you a random person on the internet that means a lot. He’s just ranked with a hundred and fifty IQ and runs multiple major companies that are way harder to run and operate. I mean sure landing rockets it’s hard but have you tried doing a job total woke idiots have been doing the past few years?
People said the same about X and it’s been going fine. The only threat to the company is woke companies like Disney trying to boycott it. But I’m sure enough woke people will stay around to support Disney like you no matter how much destruction they create. You can’t do worse than the current leadership of Disney, musk would be a massive improvement.
@@bananarama1425also Musk mostly only annoys stupid people who want to push horrific politics. Also are you serious? Iger has run the place for years and is despised, he’s at war with the richest man in earth and the governor and people of the state Disney’s largest park is in. Musk has done good Iger has only done all he can to dishonor Walt Disney and all his company was about and to bury its history. You’re saying what you’re saying because you personally don’t like Musk and you don’t like him weakening the dictatorship control of leftists and you’re trying to make it out like everyone is like that. Just leftists and similarly stupid people think like that. Musk has done nothing wrong and infringed on no one, he’s bought companies and is allowed to and improved all that he’s touched. Leftist just throw a hissy fit when they lose power, they can’t stand have total power. That’s the only reason they’re upset.
@@bananarama1425you guys are jealous of him being successful and also that’s not what a monopoly is. Monopoly is what bill gates was charged with when he had total control over one industry. Owning multiple companies in different areas isn’t a monopoly, also many others purchased X along with him and he’d do the same with Disney if he did which mostly Peltz is leading the attack their so he may help him but Peltz would probably be the one to actually go change things. Peltz has led many other companies back from disaster just as musk has. How many commoners have you successfully built by the way? You dint think he’s smart and he made himself a billionaire after building one successful company after the others so what have you done? Also musk is great with employees who don’t suck, he had to fire X employees because so many of them were useless woke hires for dumb made up woke positions. The employees who don’t like him are woke people who want to censor the right and they’re annoyed he’s not doing that and that he opened the files and showed how in bed with the government X was.
How much of his own companies would he have to sell to be able to buy Disney? I don't think its possible. Interesting thought experiment.
He can just borrow the money, and he doesn't need $190 billion to become the largest share holder in a group with a majority of shares.
@gentronseven you can't just borrow that kind of money short term without a reasonable and quick way to pay it off.
@@PrinceDaemonTargaryen you can as long as you have collateral, he can pledge Tesla and SpaceX shares and whatever else he owns. Lending is all about collateral. Realistically, it's another $20-40 billion for Elon and his allies to take control of the company.
@@gentronseven it would mean him investing a considerable amount of his wealth into something that may not give him back that money in the short to mid term especially when he's funding a rather minor legal battle with them.
@@PrinceDaemonTargaryen He doesn't care about $40 billion, he cares more about his legacy. If this is what he thinks will expand his legacy then he will probably find a way. If his networth became $160 billion, what difference would it make.
if Elon does buy star wars.. then I pray he gives full control to Lucas studios and gives Kathleen/Bob Iger the boot
Sw theory says “ Gina can go tell Elon which Disney employees are pieces of shit, then Elon can go fire them.” Real classy statement Theory.
I actually liked Obi-Wan show in terms to when it was focused solely on obi wan and Anakin/vader and Mandatorian s3
Clone wars too
Both were half-assed
So the board wouldn't vote to sell disney for less than what the market evaluation is. Elon famously had to overpay for Twitter. You are looking at a 15 - 30% over market valuation markup for enough of the share holders to take it.
He's not buying it alone, there's another huge conglomeration behind it, but I can imagine they want his face on it. Imagine the message it would send for how Disney is turning around.
Thats not true at all lmao. THey originally wanted way over market value, and he argued for way less and they ultimately marked it up..but was still well below the original offer.
@@chrisclement5091 Bro, no that's just false. He threw out a meme number per share and that's pretty much what he had to buy it for. He didn't negotiate anything down. You might want to go back and research that. He got stuck with it after crypto crashed.
@@gentronseven Not sure who else would join him on another venture after how Twitter went. If I was a bank I'd be very concerned about going in with him, and as polarizing as he is, I doubt any major investor would want him to be the face of a family entertainment company lol.
@@DaveAtUofL Twitter hasn't turned out badly, he cut costs 75% and the user base has largely stayed. The books are no longer public, but financially, whether or not you agree with him, it was likely a massive success. Disney is already just as polarizing except they're on the left, believe it or not. The big problem is leftists by and large don't have kids, so he's the perfect person to run it. There already are major investors buying up shares of Disney with allegedly the same ideas, it's not impossible although blackrock and other leftwing organizations may start to buy the rest of the shares if it gets far enough.
I don't think it's that Disney doesn't know what they're doing, but rather, they want to use Star Wars as a vehicle for the message...
1:12 well I mean he is a businessman first, I don’t actually know what his political beliefs are as I’ve not looked into it and I don’t really care about them, most people if they are smart aren’t locked to only one way of thinking, so he would put making money out of Disney’s IPs at the forefront and the best way to do that is keep our real world politics as far away from it as possible and just tell good story’s.
I can't help but wonder if Elon didn't see an opportunity with the lawsuit that Gina has filed. The lawsuit could seriously hart Disney and drop their market price even lower making it an easier acquisition than it is now. As a side note, do I think that this is the reason he filed the lawsuit, not really, I think he may believe in Gina's case and that is why he had his lawyers take the case, the easier acquisition of Disney, a bonus.
This take 😂😂
Gina Carano’s lawsuit will do nothing to Disney’s stock. It barely registers to shareholders as it’s not an existential threat to Disney’s business model. The FL lawsuits/counter-suits about Disney’s special district was a bigger deal to that Company by magnitudes. This isn’t anywhere near that.
And the stock tanking? Not sure if you know how capital markets work but Musk sniffing around will do nothing to tank Disney stock. If anything it will drive UP the price. That’s what happens when there is speculation of a takeover. Shareholders pile IN in hopes of getting a premium for the sale and to drive up the offering price. (See what happened to Twitter and why most believe Elon overpaid for the company). The FL lawsuit didn’t sink Disney (fundamentals were a bigger problem), this lawsuit will barely register as a catalyst for DIS to lose value.
She doesn't have a case. Employers can fire someone over their social media posts if they believe those posts will offend their customers or clients. This won't hurt Disney one bit. But it will make anyone else think twice about hiring Gina Carano, someone who's just proven she'll probably sue if they ever chose to fire her.
Could have sworn that's price fixing even if true.
@@DarrinBellwhile true that does not allow that company to publicly defame that person and through that defamation result in loss of representation.
Gina's lawsuit won't have that much an effect. The much larger threat is from the vacuum left by families that Disney antagonized into walking away.
I think lucasfilm needs change but I don’t think Elon is the guy to do that… he turned Twitter into a walking corpse when it was already crap…
I know this is clickbait but if he really bough them I would cancel Disney plus immediately
@@sgtking666 You must be one of 10 people who still pays for Disney+. I bet you loved daddy Elon when he first announced Tesla
Twitter is much better than it was before he bought it and he brought back critical freedom of speech to not only his platform but to other platforms as well just with that action. If he buys Disney, the company will be saved.
@@rpgadventurer32 What? You are literally the first person in the world to say twitter is better now
I don't know where you are getting that from, the articles that i have read are very contradicting, so I don't think that is quite true, it's hard to tell. And that is only one of his many businesses, all of which are fairly successful to super successful. But, we can agree to disagree too
We just need someone who loves Star Wars making Star Wars. Not all this drama, not someone taking vengeance. Twitter is as whack as ever but now people are paying a monthly fee to use it, so I imagine he'd make Disney+ more expensive for us.
I'd call it a distant possibility. But if he teams up with Peltz and Perlmutter...
I'm sure they don't want to lose as much as Elon has. It's too much to spend on a silly culture war. It's one thing to disagree with a side. It's another to lose billions over it.
"X is no longer the powerhouse that it was--" 😂😂😂😂😂😂 Ah, media, as Yoda would say, "So certain are you?"
He could bring back George Lucas.
If that does happen it would be interesting to see the changes
He could have backers who want the change and will help with cost.
Damn
If this happens, i will cry tears of joy
Ever considered getting a life?
Let's make Star Wars great again.
We need legends to continue in a separate timeline
i hope legends gets made to be canon or at least an alt timeline
be so awesome
